Wort restaurant I've been to customer service wise. We got off on a bad start when the server we had was rushing us to place our order. My friend had ordered the bbq pork but it was cold and we had asked if we could order a different plate. The server then got an attitude saying that was their way of making the bbq pork, and we completely understand that every restaurant has a different way of making their food but it didn't look very appetizing either. We had to keep insisting on ordering a new plate, and not once did they come around to check up on us either. After finishing our food we decided we weren't going to leave a tip but when the server saw we didn't leave any tip she told us that we HAD to leave a 15% tip. She stood at our table waiting for us to write a tip down so we just wrote a $2 tip so she would let us leave but she insisted that it had to be at least $10. So she then proceeded to grab the restaurant's copy of our receipt and wrote a $10 tip on there herself. Would not recommend going to this place at all. read more

My family loves this place. Their lunch prices are great for the amount of food you get. Food is good, and service is decent. While it does take a while for the food to get to the table, it is usually because it is usually packed when we eat there, and there are only 3 waitresses staffing all of those tables. My friends and I tried this restaurant in Chinatown. Service is fast. Some of the food we ordered was pretty good. The salt and pepper shrimp was good, the shrimp size was a good size. The salt and pepper smelt was okay, although I've had better. However, the shrimp toast appetizer is not recommended. It was extremely drenched in grease. The seafood chowmein is also recommended. This is our go to Chinese spot! My Gf insists on always ordering Empress Chicken which is a sweet breaded chicken dish similar to Orange Chicken and Schezwan Green Beans which are mildly spicy as they're cooked with red peppers and dried shrimps. Both are good in my opinion I'd rate them 4/5. I've been to Hong Kong and eaten many authentic dishes over the years, since half of the dishes we order are catered towards Americana-Chinese food I can't say its truly authentic but some dishes are authentic in my opinion. The beer and drinks are cheaply priced and you always get a pot of tea. Tip - Leave the tea pot lid open to get it refilled. The cups, the forks, and even the plates has stains on them. I had an orange stain on my cup, so did my fork. The plates had oil stains on them. DISGUSTING. This is one of the first Cantonese style chinese restaurants I have been to in Chicago. The food here was, overall, excellent. The service left a bit to be desired, but that is to be expected in a Chinese restaurant. Sitting next to us was the manager from Phoenix restaurant and his family, so we knew we were at a good place. We ordered 4 different dishes here: hollow green vegetables (forgot the name), eggplant with garlic sauce, two flavors scallop, and steamed small-mouth bass. The eggplant with garlic sauce was excellent and I'd recommend it in a heartbeat. The sauce itself was savory, not overly salty, and packed full of flavor. The two flavors scallop would have been better if it was one flavor scallop. It comes with both sauteed scallops in a white glaze sauce and fried. I'm not usually a fan of fried food, but the fried scallops were by far superior to the sauteed because they had so much more flavor. The hollow green vegetables were pretty good, but not fantastic. I've had better other places. The small-mouth bass was very flavorful. My only complaint here would be that it could have been more tender (I like it when the fish is super tender). read more

after perusing the chinatown square, BenO and i stopped in here... my idea based on the menu & pricing... well mainly the pricing... and perhaps you get what you pay for... or what your date pays for i must admit while waiting for our seat i was ready to dash right out the door; it was the 2 fish tanks in waiting area that wigged me out. one was full of fish and the other with crustaceans, i mean up to the brim. i dunno why they even put water (ahem cloudy water) in the tank anymore - there was more volume of living (or once living) things than there was water. these animals were forced to live on bottom, on top, and squished in between their neighbors. there was no room for "excuse me i gotta take a leak".... despite my horror, i stayed. and vowed to avoid seafood. so we started with the potstickers... it was merely fried dough... meh... then we shared mongolian beef... and bam! it was some of the best beef i put into my mouth... we CLEANED the plate.... and then the horror came back... the last thing i put into my mouth i could not bite through... im thinking "oh, it must be a bone or something"... that was half right, it was certainly a type of bone... it was a tooth, and DEFINITELY not a tooth of a cow... i was 99% convinced what i ate was a dog... it was a CANINE TOOTH... so why 2 stars and not 1? well surprisingly as gross as the experience was, the canine was pretty tasty... i didnt get sick... the table next to us had orange chicken that looked pretty yummy... the service was very friendly... it was packed with others that prolly favor this place... id actually possibly maybe go back there.... but i would still avoid the fish read more

No chi-town homecoming is complete without some serious chinese eats. This place hasn't changed much... or more like AT ALL since the nostalgic days when I dined there as a kid. I know I'm at home with the grimy walls and cheap plastic table cloths. The food has always been consistently hearty and authentic with its garlic sauteed veggies and ginger scallion seafood delights. With a growing scene of the square's eyesore of bubbly contemporary cafes, Lee Wing Wah is a place where I know that once I sit down, we'll get a pot of chicken ginseng soup (even though we didn't order any), followed by our usual sauteed/steamed/stewed usuals and then bowls of red bean tapioca soup or sliced oranges for dessert (none of that fortune cookie crap). It's a bit discriminatory since they'll cater differently to their diners, but I love coming here with the family because we know we'll get the works. read more

This may be the best $5 lunch in all of Chicago. A huge egg roll, plus a main dish, pot of tea & fortune cookie for less than a burger & fries at a drive-thru. I had the delicious Singapore noodles for lunch today, chock full of shrimp, roast pork, cha siu, mushrooms, bell peppers, egg and all kinds of other yummy things from the kitchen, tossed in a really nice curry sauce. NOM. NOM. NOM. Unlike another recent Yelper, I DID finish everything on my plate (well, really on the TABLE) and lived to tell about it, though I wasn't too hungry come dinner time seven hours later. With a bill of $5.40 including tax, I felt magnanimous in leaving a a 52 per cent tip, getting a huge thank you from the waitress and leaving full and happy only $8 lighter. Tasty Cantonese fare for a decent price. We used to frequent Lee Wing Wah back in the day (undergrad and med school), especially for our Mid-Autumn and Lunar New Year dinners because of the extra seating upstairs. We haven't been there for awhile. This time we went for lunch. It was good. In the past it was a hit or miss. We had the lunch special dishes and the Oysters. The Oysters were so good and fresh! Highly recommended if you love Steamed Oysters. We also had Fish with Bittermelons, Eggplants with Tofu hot pot, Beef Chow Foon, and Singapore Noodle. It was plenty of food for four. The only thing we did not like much was the Singapore Noodle. We also had Beef Chow Foon, Fried Sweet Rice, and another Rice dish of some sort. The bill came to about $60. My friend order something pretty good, i forgot the name but had a lot of vegetables (broccoli, asparagus, peas...) and a small cup of won ton soup, she really love it!!! I couldn't decide... and since i am a big fan of soups..... i had the seafood soup with tofu and crab ragoon. I was very upset with the soup, it had this clear water lot of eggs and the only seafood was tiny pieces of cut shrimp and scalops, salt was very low, but it was tasteless. this bowl of soup cost 8 + and didn't like it at all. On the other hand the crab ragoon was very good, i got 5 pieces for $4.00, tea is included for free. The waiter was always around checking on us but never interup our conversation, my friend who is a senior was happy. I went this place twice already. I went with a group of 8. We ordered 6 dishes combination. We gave out a lot of food. They gave us soup and deserts for free. They served everything really fast. We went at a Friday night around 6:30pm and we did not wait at all. Their mapo toufu and seafood combination is really really good. Have been here a few times now with my partner and we are constantly impressed with the service, prices, and food. This is a Chinatown staple. If you are visiting there, eat here. It doesn't look like much, but it will impress you. As other people noted the 5$ lunches are an incredible value. Beyond that they have delicious smoothies and appetizers (Especially the crab rangoons!) The food comes quickly and you can see the vegetables being cut at a table in the back in plain sight.
