Words really can't describe my love for this restaurant but I will try. Literally the best Greek salad I've had and I am Greek so that's a compliment! I don't understand why or how but it's so much better than other restaurants Greek salads. It's just the quality of ingredients and becomes the perfect balance. Not to mention, the dressing is so addicting it's hard for me to not order this every time. Bonus: they are so generous with their portions and prices are amazing for that. Great value. The octopus is great, and so is the spanakopita. Souvlaki is great as well-- we tried the chicken and lamb. Calamari was not rubbery and perfectly cooked. We got boiled beets and moussaka as well-- both good. Tzatziki is fire. Excellent rice and lemon potatoes. The dandelion greens were so healthy I could feel change my body at a cellular level. Also-- I LOVE the staff! So accommodating, every single time! Last time we ordered takeout for Christmas Eve and explained we had to reheat the food and they prepared everything with that in mind and told me ahead of time so that nothing would be over cooked by reheating. They also gave us like 2 giant packs of delicious pita. I've literally never gone here and been disappointed so I'm looking forward to trying other dishes (maybe a new salad? This is the most UN-Greek food I have ever eater and I have eaten Greek food in Greece. The dish called spanokopita contained CORN of all things and cottage cheese substituting for feta. Customer service plays such a huge role in the overall experience of a restaurant. I literally just placed an order which included two Chicken Gyro Platters with Fries (note I repeated my order multiple times). My husband went in and picked up the order. I decided to check the order and noticed they gave us two Gyro Platters with Rice! My husband took the order back inside and told them about the mistake. They took it to the back and brought back the bag. My husband brought the order back to our car and something told me just check again. I did and all they did was remove the Gyro and replaced it with chicken, still in the platter with rice. My husband went back in a second time...before he could say anything the manager was at the front and yelled at him "I am not changing your order again" without even asking what was wrong. She acted as if we were begging for something that we didn't pay and ask for. So this was a whole back and forth with getting what we ordered. Upon moving into Tarrytown, Lefteris was among the first places we were recommended to visit. It's front and center at the corner of Broadway/Main St and is perennially packed. We planned on this as I love Greek food, however with so much shit to move in, we decided to get delivery instead. Timing was reasonable although I wish their online ordering experience was better (Paypal didn't work so I paid upon delivery). First off, people are spot on in saying that portions are generous. My wife and I had ample food for dinner and for lunch the next day. I thought the chicken gyro was decent however you can do better; the chicken souvlaki, which comes with 4 little skewers, is far superior. That's going to be my order going forward. Tzatziki was great contrary to what some others here have said; it was very rich and not overloaded with spices, while coming with a crapton of pita bread. Greek salads were really good and included a lot of high quality feta as well as some great grape leaves. This is definitely going into my regular rotation of places for delivery/take out. I've been coming to the Tarrytown location for 4 years now. I KIND of miss the old layout, small, long wait, and family style. But, not mad about no waiting. I always order the Greek Salad, Lentil Soup (vegetarian), and Falafael platter. Always ask for the Falafael to be well done, sometimes they don't cook it long enough. Flavorful, succulent, and delicious. The one thing on the menu that i do not like, is the French Fries and the Tzatziki. It tastes like out of a Costco container. We stumbled on the gem walking around Main Street and looking for something quick. We ended up with a 3 course meal, it was that good and the restaurant was so nice to lounge in and enjoy a long meal with friends. I highly recommend the spinach pie. The family service is enough for four. It is so flavorful with lots of spinach and feta well mixed wi the a bit of onions and flaky crisp phyllo dough. The baba ganoush was also great. The pita bread it comes with seemed very fresh, soft and so warm. Ask the vegetable rolls in fried phyllo dough were amazing. I had never tried it before and I really loved the texture and the vegetable with spices. For entrees we got the falafel platter with Greek salad and rice with sautéed spinach. The salad is amazing I only wish there were more onions! I loved the falafel, perfectly made and great with tzatziki sauce! For dessert we had baklava and it was amazing. We went to this superb restaurant on our day trip to Tarrytown. Our initial plan was to get some Italian but couldn't resist walking in here instead. It looks like a small place from outside but is huge inside. Menu is everything Greek and Mediterranean. We got plate of swordfish kebabs and Halibut kebabs each with beets to share. The portion size is generous, kebabs are served with Pita, Tzaziki and lots of greek salad. Fish was of good quality, slightly crispy and well cooked. Boiled beets were served with a side of garlic dip. Loved every bit of this delicious healthy meal, tasty, filling and not too heavy on the pocket. We paid around $60 in total between two of us (tax and Tip included). Newyork city restaurants should learn from such places on how to serve quality food at a normal acceptable price. Only thing I didn't like here was the restrooms weren't maintained and one of the stalls ran out of hand soap. I noticed this initially when I had gone to wash my hands and later once again after finishing my meal. No one really bothered topping it up and I literally saw a man walk out of this stall without using soap ofcrse. Makes me wonder if the staff does the same. Here was my original review::::: Spending an afternoon in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow it was time for dinner. So, stopped by Lefteris. It had been packed all afternoon both inside and out. So it had to be good. We sat outside as the sun was setting. a great time for a meal. We started with a small Greek salad. It was packed with the usual tomatoes, peppers, olives, feta cheese and even stuffed grape leaves. It was in a tangy lemon dressing. It was so refreshing. And it was big enough to fee 4. That was the small (only $10.95). We also split a spinach pie. It was so fresh. The phylo was flaky. It really was good. Next we ordered two gyros. Really could have done with one since these too were large and packed with fresh gyro meat, lettuce and tazike sauce. It was a big sandwich but too good to put down. We didnt have any wine, but they do have wine available. Same for beer. Next time we shall give that a try. Needless to say we brought home leftovers for the next day (actually the remaining pie became breakfast.). Lefteris is always a hit no matter when you go. When my friend and I went in yesterday we were immediately seated and the staff was really friendly. As it was my friend's first time there she remarked that she felt like she was in Greece. Personally my friend and I also really enjoyed the music inside the restaurant plus the decor. We ordered the Kalamarakia Platter and a lamb on a stick with a side of tzatziki. The kitchen was quick and the food was amazing. The lamb tasted so good and the tzatziki was one of the best I've had. Their fries are also the perfect steak cut fries giving the same heartiness as steak cut fries without detracting from the crispiness. There is outdoor seating here in the summer and it is the perfect place to drop in for a casual meal or a celebration as I've seen people celebrate birthdays here. This used to be one of my go-to restaurants in the area, especially for takeout. Unfortunately, the food has gone downhill over the past couple years. The gyro meat is often salty, the souvlaki is tough, and, worst of all, some of the entrees taste microwaved. Last time I ate at the restaurant I ordered the vegetarian moussaka, and it was so obviously old and reheated. I saw it sitting at the kitchen counter window for at least 10-15 minutes before coming to the table; by the time it arrived, it was room temperature mush -- not to mention bland. The shrimp saganaki appetizer tasted like shrimp baked in pizza sauce. Also salty. Luckily, there are some menu staples that have always been and still are fantastic: the hummus (I love the intense chickpea flavor), stuffed cabbage, Greek salad, and rice pudding, which is served straight out of the fridge in a plastic container (hey, who's to complain if it tastes great?). Do not order take out from this place, every single time we've ordered pick up they leave at least one item out and when you call back they have never offered an apology, only say that you can come back to get it because they won't deliver. The saga today was they charged me for an item ($17) that they were out of. Didn't say they were out of it until I got home and noticed it was missing and called them back to tell them it was missing and THEN they let us know they're actually out of it...they offered no solution, other than to drive back and get something that was the same price as the original item. A White, semi-dry Kyclos- was refreshing while hubby decided on a Greek Lager. I'm not one to go beyond Spanakopita, Grilled Octopus or any other fish dish at a Greek restaurant. So decided on the Grilled Swordfish Kebabs while hubs had the Lamb Gyro. Swordfish was o...k- my only suggestion is perhaps lightly season it with lemon or garlic so it can pop. Our server was friendly and kind- plus service, was speedy. So fast I felt, that our entrées came out when we were still eating our shared salad. I'm pretty basic with my Greek salads and this one came with a ton of tomatoes and cucumbers (not my favorite), but if you like those veggies it's a dream. I found the dressing a little too watery because it pooled up in the bowl (and subsequently spilled all over my takeout container) and my chicken was cold. That was the weirdest part. Our food came out in under five minutes and the chicken had clearly just been sitting under a warmer which was disappointing. They practically run through the restaurant which is opposite of the vibe you would expect from a restaurant that transports you to the Greek Isles. On July 10, 2023, my friend and I ate lunch in Lefteris Gyro - Tarrytown at 1 Main Street around 1:25 pm with server Linda, at old room table OB1, invoice 230710-02-10. My friend and I ate the same hummus and tzatziki with pita for appetizer and had tap water to drink. We ate different entrees. Both of us got food poisoning on July 10th. We had non-stop vomiting and diarrhea. I went to Hartsdale City MD Urgent Care on July 12th to get something to stop vomiting and diarrhea. They prescribed Zofran and Imodium. Still not feeling well over 2 weeks, I went to my primary care physician who took a stool sample and blood specific for intestinal parasites on July 25th. E. coli and Giardia Lamblia were detected in my stool sample, my WBC count was sky high fighting an infection, and my Vitamin B12 was low due to vomiting.
