However, today's experience was very disappointing. 1. Things were slow and not organized well. It took long time to be asked about dessert. We ordered dessert, but since one dessert took unreasonably long, we needed to cancel it. Water was not timely filled. The guy who was filling water did not pay attention to empty glasses on the table. 2. The waitress was a nice young lady, but not well trained to serve. The entire tempo was slow. We got bored. 3. I ordered tuna. It was overcooked. It is usually served medium rare. However, it was medium well done this time. In conclusion, I'm no longer a big fan of this restaurant. read more

Visited on a Friday night after deciding that dinner would be had at the first place we drove by that we had never dined at. Two thumbs up for the Pan Fried Dumblings, Thai Tea, Veal Scallopini and the Sea Scallops w/shrimp. If you are a martini lover, give the Lemongrass martini a try...it does not disappoint. My wife and I have been going here for almost 10 years and it has been great every time. One thing I realized recently because we have 2 young daughters now is how child friendly the environment is! They had a stool in the restroom near the toilet so my 3 year old could use the bathroom without me lifting her as well as steps near the sink so she could wash her hands. These seem like small things; however, they are huge for a parent with two toddlers. Moreover, the children's menu has food that is healthy as well as tasty that both our children love. Last, the food of course is amazing. We love the salmon and the glaze they use with it is phenomenal! They have added a new pastry display at the entrance, and the desserts are delicious! Before a few days ago, I had only been here to get take-out, but the restaurant is nice, so we ate in. We were seated quickly but then ignored for ten minutes when we asked for a second to look at the drink menu. The martinis we ordered were two of the worst I've ever tasted. I didn't take more than three sips of my drink when I decided not to bother and pushed it away. I had to ask for silverware and even though the restaurant wasn't crowded, service really, really sucked. Our waiter seemed disinterested and would disappear for long periods of time. He also made our drinks, so he was obviously as good of a bartender as he was a waiter. The place gets three stars because the food is AMAZING. We had the tiger shrimp, plantain chips, the hot pot and the duck. It was all tasty. Service and drinks were terrible- will never eat there again. Take-out is the way to go for sure. read more

Creative take on familiar classics. I usually go to lemongrass for lunch, their dinner menu is slightly different than the lunch menu. The emphasis here is fresh and healthy. Example; They actually have a special breading for children"s chicken strips that sneaks veggies into the recipe. Kobe burger is one of my favorites. We ordered Siam beef salad, bake trout, and lamb shank with egg noodles. The salad was small and very little beef on it. The trout world be better with side of Bok choy instead of finger potatoes. The shank would pair better with the potatoes but it wasn't bad. If you are looking for authentic Thai food, this is not the place. The food took a very long time to come out. This place is a best kept secret in Houston. When I first moved here in my early 20's this was my go to restaurant. The pad Thai is absolutely amazing, I also recommend their stone salad don't know if that's still on the menu? For dessert I've tried there bread pudding and oh my gosh I died and gone to heaven the flavors were so good and moist that dessert stuck with me for the longest time. Tenacles of love, Shrimp tails with lime and chili; Thai ceviche dreams. Haiku for Chef Fa..... OK, Lemongrass is really a great restaunt, but it has a dual personality. If you go at lunch, it is fast, quick, efficient and the plates are delicious, but restrained. Go for dinner, and a bounty of appetizers appear on the menu as well as a wide selection of salads and entrees. The appetizers are amazing. I usually eat 2 appetizers for dinner and come out for under $20.00.....the Thai ceviche is perfect. So perfect, it deserves its own haiku! Perfectly fresh and deliciate shrimp, bay scallops and little octopus in lime with chilis....served in a beautiful glass cocktail glass that you can pick up and drink the lime juice. Tasty and so healthy too! The Tuna Tartar, which you see everywhere around town, is an examplar of it's kind. Fresh tuna, diced and beautifully red, tossed with sesame oil and avocado and accompanied by some wonton crisps and wasabi tobiko. Other outstanding appetizers include the best example of shrimp and bacon wrapped with Katifi pastry, fried, and served on mixed greens with a tamarind chili dressing; homemade chicken potstickers and crab "firecrackers" which are crabmeat wrapped in fillo pastry and baked and served with a green curry dip. The soups are delicious, but much lighter than you would expect. The mushroom soup is actually a clear flavorful mushroom broth that has a single mushroom ravioli in it. Delicate and small, but at $4.00, it is an easy course to have and not ruin your appetite for what's ahead. Entrees run the full range of proteins. From Beef (the Korean braised short ribs with bulgoki garnish is a stand out) to Chicken (the Chicken Milanese is my step mother's favourite, though not mine), Berkshire Pork Chops, the best Seared Scallops (and shrimp) in Houston!, and several delcious choices for Vegetarians, including a panko crusted tofu with vegetables and a light broth and the egalitarian Pad Thai. About the Pad Thai....it is served in the traditional, yet refined, true thai way that you never see here. Chef Fa makes the Pad Thai and places it inside of an egg crepe, in which it is wrapped; not so spicy as you would expect in a fully Thai restaurant, but excellently prepared and Chef Fa will be happy to walk it up the scale for you. In the evenings, there is always a special. I have had one there that was just standout memorable. It was a Prawn (The true prawn - about 14" long with the little claws) that was poached and served in a coconut milk broth surrounded by shrimp and mussels. I still dream of this. Desserts are either good or a bit odd....creme brulee, melting chocolate cake, etc....all perfectly fine. When she offers the Sticky Rice with Mangos, order it. It is delicious. OK, now I get to end the review with my pet peeves. I HATE fusion cuisine. Most untalented kitchens use the intensely flavored and powerful Asian ingredients - soy, fish sauce, chilis, ginger, etc. - to hide really bad techniques. I generally will not write a review on a fusion restaurant because of my general disregard for this kind of place. Lemongrass and Chef Fa, however, are the precise reason why Fusion exists. She makes no compromise for flavor, but bends the lines between Western/Eastern food to come up with something that is both familiar and fresh at the same time. I can go there with older people and they can find something that is fine; I can go with younger people who are also thrilled by the boldness. She is not making Western Food with Eastern Ingredients; rather she is making a hybrid of the two and creating something entirely new. I think Lemongrass is the best restaurant in Bellaire and, if it were located in a hipper, cooler or more accessible place, it would be filled every night with a waiting list. Note: The quality of food is exceptional, but the portions are actually what the AHA would call "appropriate". That means small for us Texans. Double Bonus: You can take your dog and sit in the few little tables she has outside and you will be well taken care of. I used to go here a lot, when I lived in Houston. It was one of my favorite places, and I loved it. Unfortunately, I went back there today (a few years later), and I was greatly disappointed. I ordered the sesame chicken milanese, which used to be incredible. This time it was overcooked, the chicken was stringy, and the sauce was watery. To make matters worse, I had THE WORST waiter that I've ever had. His name was Juan, he took my order, and then I never saw him again. I'm sorry, let me rephrase that. I saw him attending to other tables, but he never again came near mine. And they weren't even busy. Luckily, their busboy, Jose, is excellent. Not only did he refill my tea (which he's supposed to do), but he also gave me my meal, brought me salt and pepper when I asked for it (because the meal was so bland), and then took my plate away. He was friendly and attentive. When my plate had been gone for 15 minutes, and my waiter still hadn't come near my table, I decided to flag him down. I spent FIVE MINUTES trying to flag my waiter down, to no avail. I was about to walk across the restaurant to get my check, when Jose the Busboy spotted me and happily brought it to me. My waiter only approached my table once, to take my order, which is completely unacceptable. With this horrible combination of service and food, there is no reason for me to ever return. I just spent $15.50 for a lunch plate and an iced tea. If I'm going to pay that much, I expect it to be worth it. DO NOT go here. Seriously. They just reopened in a new space, which is beautiful. It is smaller, with a much larger bar. First the cons-The booths at the old place were so comfortable! Everyone wanted to sit in a booth. The new booths have what feels like exposed wood where my calves rub against the bench. It was very uncomfortable. I guess I need to remember to wear pants next time. Secondly, the management switched from cloth to paper napkins. I hate eating with paper napkins! Sure, if it is fast food, but a mid-priced restaurant? No. These napkins are not even full size or substantial. Next con is they also reduced the size of the bathrooms. One room only. Even during a slow lunch time, there was a wait. The bar area is beautiful and much larger. I guess they are looking for a happy hour crowd. Not sure how that's going to go down in Bellaire. The food was good. I had the organic salad with salmon. The greens were super fresh and crisp. The salmon was seasoned well and cooked perfectly. This is what I usually get at the restaurant, and it seems like it has improved from the former location. Fabulous meal! Went for Saturday date night and was surprised that the place wasn't packed. For starters there are the divine yeasty rolls with cotton candy-like texture, accompanied with a garlic aioli dipping sauce. We split the organic salad with mixed greens and fruit, crisp and refreshing. Then had trout and peppered tuna. Large portions and bold flavors. Atmosphere is cozy, service attentive but relaxed. I have come here for lunch twice and both times, the food was absolutely 5 stars. It is fresh, healthy, and delicious. The chicken milanaise was outstanding. Very thin cutlet panko breaded and lightly fried with a lemon sauce that was to die for. It was a decent portion for lunch but it was so good we ate it all. My partner had the pepper tuna steak sandwich and it was also outstanding, perfectly cooked and seasoned. Our visit this past week we wanted to try the curry crab firecracker appetizer and it was AMAZING. You get four long thin sticks (looks like bread sticks) which have the outside flakiness of an eggroll and inside the curry crab. For lunch we tried the customer favorites vegetable napoleon and she had the pad thai with shrimp. The napoleon was wonderful, many layers of thinly sliced vegetables and mushrooms and tofu, looked like lightly breaded eggplant too. A perfect portion for lunch. The pad thai was very uniquely prepared. The noodles were encased in a thin omelette and three grilled shrimp on a skewer on top. She loved it. Both dishes were so good and like nothing we have had anywhere else. They also give you a little fresh baked hot homemade roll and dipping sauce while you wait for your meal. The menu is small making choosing fast and everything has a different twist. If you are looking for a cheap lunch then don't go here. For a business lunch or lunch date or meeting it is perfect. The food comes out fast too so if you only have an hour for lunch, no problem. The portions are better than average- you ask yourself, should I just eat it all or take some back to work? Well it isn't enough to take back so I might as well eat it all! Because it is a lot of vegetable and healthy ingredients, you still feel like you ate light and you don't get the after meal sleepiness. I love this place.
