Thomas is the best mixologist with great service! Highly recommend if you want a unique drink tailored to your personal taste

I came here with my friend and Thomas hooked it up! He curated drinks to perfection and he was super personable, and fun to chat with. We just let Thomas know our preferred liquor/flavor profiles, and he was able to whip up amazing concoctions. We were staying at the hotel and happened to come across this place, which was quiet, intimate, and a cool speakeasy vibe. We look forward to coming back!

It was an amazing place to go to just to have a chill night out. Went there on a double date and had a great time. Food was good but the cocktails were even better. The bartender was great person with an amazing attitude and fun person to talk to. Definitely recommend for a nice little night out

If you ever come when Thomas is here you are in treat! He is the best mixologist I have met. Customer service is above anything I have encountered. Great guy!!!

Peach/Cheesecake flavored drink by Michael the Bartender

Just wanted to say that Michael, the bartender here, is without a doubt the best bartender I've ever encountered. Not to mention, he was super nice and accommodating to my friend and I. Don't get me wrong, I've met bartenders / mixologists who are really good and amazing at what they do, but this guy is on another level; he's so committed to his craft, and the amount of attention to detail is astounding. You will never find a bartender like him, nor will you ever have a drink like this guy can give you. He asked me what kind of dessert I like, so I said cheesecake, and then I also mentioned that I love peaches. so this guy whips out a jar of fermented peaches and made me a peach/cheesecake flavored drink. Without a doubt the best drink I've ever had in my life. Do yourself a favor and go try a drink at this place; the bartender's name is Michael.

I wandered into this place to kill a little time before a show expecting to get my typical go to- Scotch, neat. Then I see this guy whipping up a cocktail for someone with great intensity. He changed my mind before we even made eye contact. The bartender/mixologist Michael is a genius. The bespoke cocktail he made me was probably the best cocktail I've ever had. I'm dead serious. Show's over, it's just after midnight, just got home, and felt like I needed to give this guy some props before I went to sleep. I highly recommend a visit or two to this tiny, cool, little speakeasy of a bar. This is the way it should be done. Someone meet me here for a drink. You'll see what I mean.

Great burger, great service, and the drinks were delicious. It was not loud but it does have limited space in the book section.

This was the perfect date night spot for my boyfriend and I. We grabbed drinks here before watching Harry Potter at the Pantages theater. Let me tell you.. we had the best time! This bar is unique in that there is menu and drinks are created especially for you according to your pallet. The drinks we had were amazing and we had the best experience with both mixologists. We loved telling them what types of drinks we enjoyed and having them create something unique just for us. The price is most definitely worth it. We both agreed this would be our new spot for a yummy cocktail! I highly recommend if you enjoy yummy cocktails and are open to trying something new.

Excellent hidden space in the Roosevelt hotel, having just reopened in March of 2024. Michael is an excellent bartender and showman, crafting each drink to your palette in a visually engaging way. Highly recommend sitting at the bar, rather than lounge, for a more intimate atmosphere and conversation, with a much more fiery visual experience. One of the best places for a drink in Hollywood, with top tier experience, vibe, and quality.

Michael is by far the most talented bartender we have encountered. His art in cocktail was incomparable, every drink was tailor-made and one of a kind! What an amazing evening.

Talk about a Hollywood gem! Had a profound time at the library speakeasy in the Hollywood Roosevelt! The Hollywood Roosevelt has and always will have a very special place in my heart. When I first visited Los Angeles back in 2021 before moving here, I spent my very first night at this hotel. I was thrilled to hear about the library reopening. I can tell this is going to be my new spot. The bartender Michael went above and beyond. I could feel that he truly make a great effort to make every single guest feel welcomed and like family. The drinks were absolutely incredible. I tried to stop at two, but I kept having more! I just had such a wonderful time and didn't want to leave. That in my opinion is what truly defines a special experience. Can't wait to come back! I'm so grateful that I live so close to this very special gem!

Is it a true speakeasy where a password is required?

No password required, it's a small open room in the back of the lobby of the Roosevelt Hotel. No door, just walk in

    Is there food here?

No, not inside the Library Bar, but right across from it inside the hotel is a diner called 25 Degrees, the food is pretty good!

What is the average cost of a drink here?

When I called yesterday, I was told tip is included in the drinks and they are in the $18 range. I will know for sure tonight...

I am pretty sure that they don't have food there!

It wasn't your typical corner haunt. There was an intentionality here that turned a simple evening out into a genuine education. The curation of spirits was nothing short of impressive, but what set the experience apart was the conversation. I arrived knowing the difference between a glass and a bottle, but left with a newfound appreciation for the nuances of rum, the craftsmanship behind a smooth whiskey, and the unexpected complexities hidden within a well-made vodka. Each pour came with a story, a history, and a level of expertise that transformed every sip into a lesson. The atmosphere was the perfect anchor for it all--utterly chill and devoid of the frantic, forced energy you find elsewhere. It was the kind of place where the music sits at just the right volume and the lighting invites you to actually linger. It was refreshing to find a spot that treats its craft with such respect while keeping the vibe completely grounded. I walked out feeling a little more cultured and a lot more relaxed. Consider this my official notice: I'll definitely be back.

From the moment you walk in, it feels like you've been transported somewhere else. Every room is thoughtfully designed, and the atmosphere is immersive and unlike anything we've experienced before. The storyteller was welcoming, engaging, and incredibly knowledgeable. I really enjoyed learning about the history of alcohol and the stories behind each tasting. The cocktails were definitely on the stronger side, but you could tell they were crafted with high-quality ingredients. Unfortunately, our experience was somewhat tainted by our hostess. She came across as impatient and unwelcoming, which set the tone early on. When we first entered, we were each handed a small glass of liquid, and then she immediately walked away without explaining what it was or what we were supposed to do with it. We assumed it was a welcome drink, so we all took a sip only to discover it was actually a palate cleanser. A little guidance would have gone a long way. The next room had a beautiful bayou-inspired setting. While the historical information was interesting, I found myself wishing the experience leaned more into the mystical or magical themes that the venue seems to promise. One thing worth mentioning is the restroom setup. I don't mind coed restrooms, but there was no signage explaining that the restroom is shared with two open stalls. Some guests may appreciate a heads-up, especially those who might feel uncomfortable or triggered by that arrangement. After the tastings, you're taken outside. A few of us stopped to use the restroom first, and when we returned, our friend had already left the table and all of our drinks had been cleared away. We were disappointed because we hadn't finished them. Our friend had been told she couldn't take the drinks with her, but when we returned we could take them outside. She was told that they'd be there when we got back. We were disappointed. The outdoor portion of the experience also felt a bit rushed. We barely had time to enjoy our drinks, let alone take photos of the beautiful space. The beignets at the end, however, were absolutely delicious and a highlight of the evening! Finally, we were escorted to the members-only bar, which was stunning. It gave off major Harry Potter vibes with its hidden, magical atmosphere. One of my friends was still finishing her drink on the patio since we couldn't legally walk on the sidewalk with it. Our hostess told us she'd come back for us but she never did. After waiting quite a while, another staff member happened to walk by and kindly helped us. Once inside, everything turned around again. The bartender was warm, friendly, and helped us choose drinks off the menu. I ordered the piña colada, and while it was much stronger and different from the traditional version I'm used to, it was absolutely delicious!!! Despite some service issues and inconsistent communication, I would still recommend Obscure. The concept is unique, the cocktails are excellent, and the venue is truly one of a kind. I'm hoping our hostess was simply having an off day, because with more attentive service, this experience could easily be five stars.

Our…read morehost walked us through the back of a restaurant and behind a retro vending machine was access to a bar, dance floor and karaoke rooms. The theme was costume karaoke, so we showed up dressed up. It appears as if it was 80's night because the whole night was 80s music and vibes. Not sure if this is the vibe every night but it was cool. The room was spacious and had enough space for all the girlies however the air conditioning was definitely lacking in the venue as a lot of were sweating while sitting still. While we were told the karaoke list has a wide variety of songs, they did it was just disappointing because if they didn't have our song there was no alternative way to add the song. Often times the WiFi would cut off and freeze our song in queue, we would request for help, and had to wait a while for techno assistance. This cut into our karaoke time and no additional time was offered to accommodate. There is on one restroom per gender and 2 stalls in the women bathroom so the wait was at least 30 mins before getting your turn, while I appreciate staff regulating the lines for the restroom, that was a crazy wait! (While sweating because of the shotty AC) Once our time was up,(2am) a bouncer or staff, busted into the room flashing bright lights and yelling saying it was closed and time to go home. Once we exited the room, we were rushed and told if we stayed behind we would be charged more money when all we were doing was checking if we left anything behind.. (it was 15 of us) we could only move so fast! The staff didn't even allow us to use the restroom before leaving. I understand closing protocols, but this wasn't the experience I expected towards first time guests let alone any guests. It would have been nice to get a 30, 15 min warning because it's so easy to be caught up in the moment of having fun, you aren't keeping track of time. There was no courtesy like that offered to us. All in all the experience wasn't completely bad, we made the most of it, celebrated with our friend and had a blast with eachother..the drinks were good and that kept coming.. We racked up a tab ($1000) and ordered a lot of drinks and celebrated, it would have been appreciated to receive the same customer service and support as paying customers, not sure if I would return because this location is far from me, but I'm willing to scope it out again if the opportunity presents itself in effort to have a more balanced opinion.
