I was thrilled to find another delectable Malaysian restaurant stateside and off of new c-town Clement Street! My brother placed our large order for 4 hungry adults and a noodle obsessed 3 year old right when they opened on a Sunday morning. We arrived twenty minutes later and they let us know it would likely be another 20-30 minutes since the order was so large. I sat down and enjoyed the inviting environment while waiting for our order to be up. It's always a good sign when there are thriving plants inside a restaurant. This space has great light and has good energy. Their menu is extensive and I loved everything we ordered. Flavors were authentic and everything was delicious. I will definitely order from them again the next time I'm in town. This was a win for all in our group! read more

The service was nice when we ordered for takeout. But when we opened the door to the restaurant we got a whiff of sewer, probably a sewage issue but they should air that out or get it fixed. We ended up ordering the hainan chicken rice. They were nice enough to give dark meat when requested. The rice is flavorful, the soup is very neutral so its great washing down the rice and chicken. The chicken itself was juicy and tender and it pairs well with the sauces. It was around 17 dollars and it fed two people pretty well! Would definitely come back for takeout but wouldn't take a party there or eat inside for now. read more

Delicious authentic Indonesian sambal terasi (sambal matang)! Make sure you ask for it every time you come here to eat. Put it on everything. I even bought some of that authentic "Jawa Timuran" sambal terasi to take home. It reminds me of Surabaya. I ordered a Martabak, which I think was kinda bland and soggy. There was no cucumber pickles and chili peppers on the side, no crunch. And these martabak was definitely one of the worst I've had. Ain't no street vendor style martabak we all know and love . Rendang (actually it's more like kalio than rendang) was succulent and good. Very generous portion but it doesn't come with rice. You must order rice separately. Lack of spice, that's why I recommend you to ask for sambal to add it yourself. Elevate your rendang with adding that awesome sambal together. Great and friendly service, Thank you Vanessa! Will stop by here often to buy authentic fresh Indonesian sambal. Actually its also much cheaper than making it yourself or getting some packaged sambal from richmond new may wah Chinese supermarket nearby. read more

Was passing through inner Richmond near Golden Gate Park while visiting SFO and pretty randomly chose to eat lunch here. I was pleasantly surprised. Although this is a small and not very fancy restaurant, it has a good atmosphere and a very kind and attendant wait staff. There is a broad menu of South Asian dishes with a Malaysian/Singapore tilt. I had rice noodle dish which was aromatically and deliciously flavored. This is not the place for a romantic lunch or ambiance, but the meal was superb. Street parking was easily available midday. read more

I won't have any food pictures of this place because we inhale them too fast. Let's just say that almost everyday we debate about ordering togo lunch or dinner from Lime Tree. That damn budget and my desire for retirement gets in the way! if I can afford a personal chef and lime tree is willing, all you good people won't get to try their excellent food ever again (evil laugh trailing off..) What do we order: curry chicken, hainan chicken rice, Latka, any rice dish, seriously - everything is good depending on your mood. Just be mindful some dishes are "a la carte" so you may have to order rice separately. Whenever we order their food togo with friends, we fight over the leftovers. We are lucky to be in the neighborhood and spoiled to get their food togo. I am often jealous of the diners who eat in and have so much fun with the friendly service - will update review once I get to try dining in more. My mouth is watering as I type this review. I wonder what I would order for dinner from lime tree tomorrow night.... See you there! read more

Delicious authentic dishes. Whenever I'm feeling a craving for Malaysian/Singaporean dishes this spot does the job! My favorite is the Char Kway Teow and the roti pratha. Service is speedy and I like to take it to go as the restaurant is quite small and below ground level. read more

We had an excellent crab meal. (Make sure you call ahead for crab dishes) We had pepper and chili crab. Both were delicious. Enjoyed them with ginger rice and sambal okra. The flavors were very authentic. Service was excellent. read more

4.5 stars First time trying Lime Tree was years ago in Sunset. When they opened in the Inner Richmond a few years ago, we tried them, but wasn't super impressed. We recently returned for takeout during the pandemic and had a pretty decent experience, so we went back for dinner recently thinking we can order their... Tea leaf crab-- turns out you need to pre-order before coming in as they need to buy and prepare the crab ahead of time. So if you want this, call ahead. We decided to try other dishes. Sambal Okra -- I really like okra cooked in sambal. My favorite rendition of this dish is from another restaurant (Burmese) and theirs have shrimp in it. So I asked them to add shrimp for additional cost and they obliged. Pretty tasty. Beef Rendang -- Very good sauce, good size portions and evenly cut beef pieces. The meat could be a bit more tendered, but we still think it's delicious, goes amazingly with rice as sauce is fantastic. Special (off menu item) Chicken Wings-- Crispy, delicious, hot, tangy, and sticky. Definitely dry fried chicken wings vibe. You like that style of chicken wings; you will like this. I enjoy curry very much but I had to have it with the roti as a side dish. The real superstar of this place is the Lanksa which is delicious and fulfilling. It's becoming my favorite Lanksa in San Francisco. Lime Tree Southeast Asian Kitchen has great service . I appreciate great food and great service when it comes to casual dining. read more

Love this spot!!! I was craving some Malaysian food and I found this on Yelp and decided to give it a try. The roti paratha was good, the dipping sauce was a coconut curry (veg friendly)! We got fried rice, garlic noodles, chap chai (veg stir fry with vermicelli noodles) All the entrées are really good and full of flavor! Will definitely come again if I want some authentic Malaysian food :) parking isn't terrible around that area either, lots of street parking and diagonal parking. read more

Ordered to go through Yelp. Food was still warm when it came. The roti and curry dip was not for me. The dip was really runny and water like. The ones I've had before was more thick and used red curry versus green. The roti was extra crispy which was good. The hainese chicken and rice was delicious. All the sauces were flavorful from the ginger sauce to soy to hot sauce. I'm usually picky with hot sauce because I like it spicy but this one had a different kick. The side soup was a little bland for me but still good. I loved how they made the rice too. The flavor hit the spot. A spot I would come back to. read more

Hainan Chicken Rice $17.99 We ordered this for take out and it came with all white meat not one piece of dark meat. Are you kidding?! Everywhere else that has similar plate with chicken has at least some dark meat but not all white meat. For the price it should come with dark meat regardless if we order take out or not. read more

Good service. Good price. Food is not bad but not super either. I still think it's worth a visit if you are in the area. I think it's 3.5 place. Garlic noodle had strong garlic taste which was good. Stopped in on a rainy Tuesday early afternoon for lunch. Had a wonderful chicken noodle soup with vegetables. It was very tasty with a good broth and plenty of egg noodles, chicken, tomatoes and greens - mildly spicy. My partner had the coconut milk , shrimp and noodle soup- full of favor and lots of shrimp. Such a lot of food - we left with takeout cartons for another day. Attentive service and peaceful atmosphere. read more

We got takeout. Big portions. Delivery via GRUBHUB took a while but that's to be expected. I think this is more of a 3.5 stars. Seems like standard takeout fare. - Gado Gado : neither of us liked this. It's basically lettuce and cabbage with shrimp chips and a peanut dressing that we both found a bit odd. - Laksa : I also didn't love this at first, but it grew on me as I ate it. The shrimp were super big, tender and delicious and I enjoyed the fish cakes. It's a pretty creamy soup with a different flavor than I'm used to. - Noodle dish that looks like Pad See Ew : This was super tasty. I loved the smoky noodle flavor and the fish cake. The sausage was a little sweet. - Beef soup : this was amazing. I loved how tender the pieces were, and the gravy was great with the ginger rice. - Ground beef Patties : we got this as a free gift! Food: 4.25 out of 5 Our group ordered the roti pratha, chicken curry, Singaporean noodles, and the Beef Rengdang. A lot of the hits of South East Asian cuisine. I loved all of the flavors. Still the authentic flavors that I remember when I first tried them back in 2016. Service: 4 out of 5 Nice server. Allowed our group extra time to explore the menu a bit more. I wish she was a bit more helpful in describing the dishes to my friend, whom first timer at South East Asian restaurant. Environment: 4 out of 5 No frills. "Mom and pop" operations. Seats about 20-25 people. Definitely casual! This location is more spacious than their location on Irving by UCSF Parnassus. Overall: 4.25 out of 5 Such a great restaurant to be exposed to South East Asian cuisine. I'm glad this place survived COVID and they remain true to their culture cooking. My partner has been to Indonesian and she says the Beef Rengdang is just as good here; definitely more meat options here in the States than abroad, but flavors are in tact and delicious! A must try! read more

T L D R: * Budget friendly * Mom and pop shop with casual ambience. Great, seemingly authentic Indonesian food * Dishes are very flavorful! My go-to are the Martabak, Ginger rice, Okra and Green Bean Sambal, and Beef Rendang. Try the Wings if they have it! Came here twice already. Once for a birthday lunch and again to introduce my friend to South East Asian cuisine. Overall this place is great! It's a mom and pop shop with a casual ambience. O K R A and G R E E N B E A N S A M B A L - Wok fried okra and green beans with spicy sambal sauce. Nice and fresh, spicy but not too spicy for my taste. Perfect with rice. Char kway teow - Flat rice noodle stir fried with shrimp, Chinese sausage and eggs. Very flavorful. I enjoyed these noodles with the chicken wings (when they have it). Otherwise, I prefer the ginger rice to better enjoy the flavors of the other dishes. C H I C K E N W I N G S - Great when they have it as it's a special. The wings came out nice and crispy, tangy, slightly sweet with a perfect amount of spice for me. Great wings if you're feeling Asian-flavored wings M A R T A B A K - Crispy roti stuffed with minced meat, green onion and eggs. One of my favorites! It's basically a crispy and flakey meat pancake with a yellow curry dipping sauce. Maybe some of my fellow yelpers came at a off time but the food was really fresh. Great service. The owner comes out and talks with you and makes sure that everyone is having a great experience. The food is very good. We have ordered the chicken satay - chucks of chicken (not flat and processed looking) and really good curry sauce comes with it. We also get the Malaysian noodles (glass noodles with shredded veggies and a protein) which is not too dry or greasy. The string beans are very good and a nice complement to the other dishes. Has a bit of a kick to it but not too much. read more

So fire came here with my 50 person dragon boat team and the service was top notch. They were able to accommodate each and everyone of us despite our many food allergies. Their food was good, their staff was nice and most of all their prices were cheap!!! read more

Satisfied all my cravings. - wings, perfectly crispy w/ a savory sauce that had a hint of sweetness - their house stir fried flat noodle, good. - crispy, flaky, roti. How can you trust a restaurant where the waitress is so skinny? Does she not eat the delicious food served here? Or does she know something we don't in the kitchen? I'm assuming she is new. Anywho, I had their garlic noodles with chicken $13. I added a fried egg on top to make it less plain. The noodles took about 25 minutes to make. I thought it was good, not great. I would have preferred noodles with more texture. These would break when you squeeze them with chopsticks. The dish had a good garlic flavor with bits of black pepper. The one thing I couldn't understand was the wedge of lemon they included. The place is called "Lime Tree". High marks for having a cleaner more modern dining room than their Irving St. location. That one feels like eating in someone's garage. I usually get their laksa (rice noodles with shrimp in coconut based broth) at that location. read more

Stumbled on this hole in the wall gem in the Richmond district . Decent menu choices. Large portions. Decent prices . Very friendly server . The Laksa was not too spicy and had large shrimp. The Char Kui Dew was also very generous portion with lots of food . The Hainan chicken was a little disappointing though. The soup was definitely not up to par. This dish needs improving but it was still good . I'd be back to try their other menu items for sure read more

Lime Tree, Lime Tree, what a treat. We went hard on ordering meat. Beef cubes stewed in a magic sauce dark, warm spices, I could get lost. Next, the famous chicken and rice hailing from Hainan, much less spice. Instead bright ginger, so fresh so clean. That RICE my god, it caused a scene. All in all, a great stop for lunch I'd love to come back with my friend bunch. The beef cubes alone, worth a return. So much to try, so much to learn. read more

This place tastes like home! Mostly. The gado gado was smothered in a sauce that was just the tiniest bit too thick and tasted kind of off, though I couldn't pinpoint why. But the laksa was very tasty, especially the broth. They used the same rice noodles like in pho, which was a bit strange, but still tasty! The char kway teo was also very good, similar to the recipe I've seen in the "Jia! The Food of Swatow and the Teochew Diaspora" cookbook, with Chinese sausage, fish cakes, and shrimp. I think it would've tasted even better spicy, but didn't ask for it. Next time! read more

Lime Tree was listed as one of the highest Yelp rated restaurants and I totally agree. We did a pickup via the Yelp app and it was convenient. We enjoyed the Singapore Curry Noodles and Curry Vegetables, Roti Pratha and Ginger Rice. Everything tasted great and we appreciated the vegetarian options. We will definitely be back :) read more

Some decent dishes but very inconsistent We had hainan chicken and we ordered two of them as it was highly recommended. Both of them only came with chicken breast and both barely had any skin. The two chicken dishes were dry and flaky. When we brought it up to the waiters to make it right, he just said thanks for the feedback and did not do anything about it. The friends who brought us here were very disappointed as well. They said that they've had really good and really bad experiences here. We also ordered laksa and it had good soup base but noodles were very few and over cooked as it was very soft and could barely pick it up without breaking. Overall I do not recommend this restaurant. read more

Lime Tree in the Inner Richmond on Clement street: Asian food is my fave & I admit, I'm a snob when it comes to my Asian cuisine since they're many restaurant's to choose from in SF/Bay Area. It really blows my mind Lime Tree does not attract more attention or foot traffic compared to similar South East Asian resturant's in the Richmond neighborhood that have long waiting lines, pricey menu & way over-hyped IMO. I've dined in & had take out. Each time the service was friendly, prompt & courteous. Appetizer - loved their Roti, comes out temperature hot, slightly doughy & tiny bit of golden brown, cooked perfectly & yummy. Their chicken fried rice w/egg was flavorful & had that "wok hay" distinct flavor for chefs that master cooking stir fry with a wok. Laksa - a nice flavored coconut broth with prawns that were generous in size & crunchy-fresh. I found my new go to Southeast Asian restaurant for super friendly service, great tasting food & avoiding long waits/lines from over-hyped restaurants in the same neighborhood that serve's similar style cuisines. Lime Tree deserves your business. read more

This was truly an amazing experience. My Indonesian friends took us to this Indonesian restaurant. They had us when they mentioned chili crab... My wife was secretly giving me a high five~ :D [Disclaimer: I did not pay for this meal as my friends treated us so I could not comment on the value, only on the taste and experience. Thanks for the amazing meal, Toni and Shirley~] I didn't see chili crab on the menu. Turns out you need to be in the know... if you are lucky, they may have some crabs available if you come at 5PM and order. My friends had texted the owner several hours earlier during the day and requested 3 crabs. That way we ensured that we had fresh crabs reserved for us. You could pick chili pepper or black pepper crab. Since this was our first time and we had 7 adults, we needed to make sure everyone had their share of the famous chili crab so all 3 were chili crab. My wife loves seafood and she basically had one whole crab to herself. During the meal, she was so quiet and focused on eating, I thought she had disappeared. Only to turn and see her laser-focused on eating the crab. If only she would use that kind of focus on her job and our business.... lol but I digress! :D Chili crab was the star of the show - no doubt about it. When you have fresh seafood ingredients, that's 80% of what you need to make great seafood. The chili crab had heat, but wasn't as spicy as I had anticipated. This was a good thing as more people were able to consume. We were able to finish all 3 crabs. All the appetizers were great. I liked the corn fritters and the flat bread... didn't even have a chance to eat the chicken satay as the kids ate them all. We were so hungry from the hike at Crissy Field that we even thought about going to San Tung afterwards to get some fried chicken. Sometimes wishes do come true, the owner later gave us their new creation fried chicken wings on the house. It was not San Tung fried chicken, but it still hit the spot. The garlic noodle and Nasi Goreng (fried rice) were good too, but completely overshadowed by the chili crab and became an afterthought. I did not let my opportunity pass by. I ate a good chunk of it with the chili crab sauce on top of it and fried okra on the side. All the adults at the table were surprised at how much my wife and I could eat. Hehe... they haven't seen us eat in Japan yet. Lol. I felt sorry for the surrounding tables as I caught them looking at our surreal feast in an envious daze. I had a mixed experience at this restaurant. The customer service was excellent, and the place was clean, which I really appreciated. However, the food and drinks didn't quite meet my expectations. I ordered 6 items, and only the chicken wings tasted good. The chicken satay stick tasted more like Yakitori than the traditional Malaysia and Indonesia style I was expecting. The drinks, in particular, were overly sweet and tasted similar to instant Thai tea bags. The other meats and noodles were also overly sweet, overpowering the other flavors. The portions were small, and I found the prices to be on the higher side. Overall, the food was too sweet for my liking. Good luck. read more

Lime Tree in San Francisco is an absolute must-try! I started with the Roti Pratha, a flaky flatbread served with the most delicious curry dipping sauce. It's a great start to the meal. The Beef Rendang, slow-cooked in Indonesian spices, was phenomenal. Their chicken curry and Singaporean Curry Noodles were both bursting with flavor, every dish was fantastic! The service here is excellent, and the staff is so friendly and attentive. Don't forget to ask for their chili with lime, it's the perfect topping and adds an extra kick to any dish. Lime Tree in the Inner Richmond serves up mouthwatering Indonesian dishes like Roti Pratha, Pepe's Salmon, awesome Indonesian-style Chicken Wings, Beef Rendang, Nasi Goreng with chicken, and Gado-Gado. Just came back from Thailand and Malaysia last week and compared the food of this restaurant. It tasted like NON South-East Asian food, I couldn't even take one bite on my ordered My friend ordered laksa noodles soup. There was too much coconut milk in the soup. I enjoyed the Shanghai shu mai, the shrimp, and the green beans. The smashed cucumber salad was a little too heavy on the garlic for my liking, but it was still pretty fresh and crisp. And the lion's head meatballs didn't have egg inside (good, in my opinion) but were too soft and crumbly. There are highlight dishes and also ones that I would rather get elsewhere. The prices are a little inflated, but it's hard to do significantly better in SF. Overall, it's a nice addition to the bustling collection of Chinese restaurants on Geary.

On a Summer stroll on the last weekend of July I landed at Nakorn Thai restaurant on Clement street. I wanted to try their Pad See Ew and noodles where fresh and the dish was tasty. I also got the beef curry and it was savory and the sauce had lots of flavor. My favorite dish was the Kao Pad Gai Tod . The Thai fried chicken was the best I had in the city. It was crispy and delicious. Lastly I got the mango sticky rice which was not too sweet with pieces of juicy mango. Overall a good place to grab some Thai food. So enjoy the sun in the "sky" it's almost the end of "July"so I wanted to "try"some new place to me for some food that's "Thai" Go on a Summer "stroll" and get a sour like some in SF with Tom Yum "bowl"and also get some noodles with some "Guay Tiew Yen Ta Fo" on Clement street in "San Francisco"

Since finding it, my girlfriend and I have been here numerous times and it has been awesome every time. I've so far tried several noodle soup dishes (Pho, Bun Bo hue, peanut noodles soup, mi hoahn thahn) and everything has been great. Their appetizers and non soup based food are also excellent. They also have an extensive vegetarian menu which many places do not. On top of the quality food, service here is exceptional and friendly. So glad I can finally say I have a favorite pho spot in SF. In my book, this is definitely a must visit if you are in the area.

However, I have to say - all of those feelings of disappointment dissipated pretty quickly when I saw that Mulan Malatang had taken their place! Especially since there are even fewer malatang restaurants around! Stepping inside, Mulan Malatang is quite similar to what Fuku Ramen was like, with its wealth of tables and chill vibes. However, the thing that stood out the most was their selection of offerings. Across their two refrigerated units, they have so much to offer - napa cabbage, yu choy, spinach, daisy crown, tofu, fish balls, fried tofu, egg pudding, king crown mushrooms, enoki mushrooms, lamb, beef, wagyu, mussels, fish filet, shrimp, ramen, egg noodles, vermicelli, quail eggs, and so much more. What's more, the quality of everything looks fantastic and they have four different types of soup broth to choose from with a few different spice levels. -- PORK BONE BROTH (Mild) with Lamb, Wagyu Beef, Fish Balls with Roe, Beef Balls, Yu Choy, Napa Cabbage, Enoki Mushrooms, Shirataki Noodles, and Ramen Noodles Aside from how I wish I had gone with "medium" spicy, this was pretty good! The broth had a nice porky flavor to it, the lamb and wagyu beef were of surprisingly good quality, the veggies were fresh and clean, and the noodles had a nice bite to them. -- PORK BONE BROTH WITH BLACK GARLIC (Medium) with Wagyu Beef, Lamb, Frozen Fish, Quail Eggs, Yu Choy, Crown Daisy, Tofu, King Oyster Mushrooms, Rice Cakes, and Ramen Noodles Not quite as garlicky as I had hoped for, but the amount it had and the additional spice in this helped a lot. I also really liked the frozen fish filets and rice cakes, but absolutely skip the King Oyster Mushrooms, as the stems were insanely tough to bite through. Since I haven't been to many malatang restaurants (yet), I can't say how Mulan Malatang compares across the board. However, from what I've seen, they seem to be one of the better values, as their price feels fair ($16.99/lb) and they're even currently offering a can of Sapporo for just $1 (dine-in only, limit one per customer). Add to that how the quality of most of their offerings seems to be pretty good and they definitely provide a solid bang for your buck. If I did have to come up with a knock on this place, it would be that neither of the broths that I've tried so far have been as interesting or dynamic as the one I had at YGF Malatang at Serramonte. Combine that broth with everything else that Mulan Malatang has to offer and this would easily be a five star review! Not that FOUR AND A HALF STARS rounded up is anything to scoff at.
