This is my first time at this location in Burlingame. We came in as a group of four adults and two kids (reservation recommended) and were seated a little after our scheduled time. The atmosphere was loud and people were having a great time. Several tables had large groups. We went for cocktails on the menu - me for the signature old fashioned which did not disappoint. Others in the group tried a variety of their signature drinks - and the kids got some mango lemonade. Five stars for the drinks For apps, we got the ceviche (they have a huge variety of them). We went for habanero seafood variant which was amazing. Also got some chicken sticks with fries and the house special fried cauliflower (really really good) Mains were Lomo Saltado and a pollo with fries dish. The Lomo was good (not the best I have had) and the chicken dish seemed to be a bigger version of what had for the apps. So lose some marks on the main course. The place is small and was really crowded - so the dining experience is one where your chair is hitting the other patrons and vice versa. Not a newbie to Limon but new to this Burlingame location that gives diners a chance to admire the architecture of the buildings nearby while outdoor dining. You can never go wrong starting with empanadas that comes in a pair. The lengua a la parilla was creatively presented, tender and so flavorful that ironically makes you want to lick the plate. Aji de gallina is one of our go-to in Peruvian restaurants and this one seemed a little different than ones I have had in the past missing the hard boiled egg and a strange addition of the parmesan on top. This was my first time having Peruvian food. We got one of the popular dish, half chicken with 2 choices of sides. the yuka fries were crispy and the texture of the potato was chewy and really different from fries. The jasmine rice was so good. I first went to Limon in the mission back around 2013 or 2014. I remember that I ordered a quarter chicken and gave it a 3 on Yelp, as it was fine but nothing special. However, I've been to the Burlingame location a couple times since 2019 and gotten take out several times before and after COVID and have been impressed. While I always enjoy a good lomo saltado, while their's is flavorful, the beef is usually a bit tough. The chicharron de pollo is soy marinated and fried. Some pieces were a bit over fried as they were on the dry side. My husband always gets the lomo while I get a quarter of the chicken. The quarter chicken comes with a choice of two sides and it's a hearty meal. I always get the chifa which is their stir fried veggies, usually this is stir fried green beans that have a teeny bit of a crunch and are sautéed with garlic, ginger and soy sauce. And I'll usually get sweet potato fries or regular fries for my second side. One time my extremely picky toddler even enjoyed the rotisserie chicken. This is coming from an almost non eat neater unless it's a chicken nugget. I've also enjoyed their truffle mac n cheese. And let's not forget, their sangria is potent, but damn good! Before the pandemic Limon had a brunch menu that I always wanted to try but never did. Hopefully when this is all over, it'll be brought back. Nothing sounds more fantastic then brunch under an umbrella in warm weather while sipping a sangria. I'm so happy that Limon opened up in Burlingame. read more

I've tried Limon in SF before, but decided to check out this location. My friend and I shared the ceviche mixto with taro chips, and I had the lomo saltado. The ceviche mixto was the perfect appetizer to share. It was fresh, delicious, and perfect for 2 people. The taro chips was a good mixture with the citrus flavor. The lomo saltado was flavorful, maybe even a little too salty for my taste. The meat was extra juicy. It came with rice and fries, and the rice helped out with the saltiness. Visiting with family and they suggested this place. I was there with my 2 daughters. We got a whole chicken (cut into 8 pieces) and it comes with 2 sides. We decided on sweet potato fries and Jasmine rice. Everything came out super fast. My youngest is 6 and ate 3 pieces of chicken! I think she liked it! She wanted more rice, but the serving size thar comes with a whole chicken wasn't a lot for the 3 of us. Next time, I'd probably order an extra side. The sweet potato fries were crispy on the outside outside soft on the inside. The aji Amarillo huacatay sauce was very good and we dipped everything in it and topped our rice. Also, the girls tried Inca kola for the first time. Customer service was also great! On a side note, the music was very loud and we had to yell to hear each other. Limon exceeded my expectations and made my birthday dinner a special one. As busy as this place always seems to be, the staff made it easy to make a reservation and the service was top notch. Very attentive service and knowledgeable about the food & drinks. Their cocktails are good. We had the classic margarita and pisco sour. The beef empanadas were tasty and I recommend them. The roast chicken is a specialty so we had the half a chicken which was well cooked and still moist. It comes with two sides so we picked salad and Chifa vegetables which turned out to be a very generous pile of perfectly cooked green beans. The pork chop was absolutely delicious and juicy and is served on the bone with bacon & cabbage hash & roasted potatoes. We were so full but kept eating and literally cleaned our plates. Limón is one of those great dining experiences that are good for small, intimate parties or larger groups! I would highly recommend coming with a party of 4-6 and ordering 5-6 different dishes to share family style. It'll give you a nice taste of each type of dish and you'll know what you like for the next visit! What was ordered: + Truffle mac and cheese - I'm not a huge truffle person but this was delicious. The truffle wasn't overpowering and it was a great compliment to the rest of the dishes we ordered. I wouldn't say it's a must order but you also won't regret it. + Ceviche mixto - Must get! Their taro chips won't break when you're trying to pick up the pieces of seafood and they give a generous amount of both ceviche and taro chips. I actually enjoyed the taro chips on their own as well. + Pollo empanadas - I personally did not like these too much but they weren't bad. The dipping sauces helped with the flavor. I wasn't a fan of the fried portions, it felt too stale and chewy for me. + Lomo Saltado - The beef tenderloin was great! It wasn't falling apart as I ate it but it definitely had some tender components to it. Honestly, the best part is the sauce. It's got great flavor and pairs well with the potatoes and rice. + Whole chicken - MUST GET. Their chicken is seasoned so well and it's so tender. We've also ordered the chicken, whether it's whole, half or quarter and it's never disappointed. I'm typically a dark meat gal but even their white meat was cooked to perfection. Would highly recommend ordering this. + Arroz Con Mariscos - I wish I enjoyed this dish more because it smelled so good. I don't know for sure if it was cilantro flavored, but it definitely tasted like it and I, unfortunately, am not a fan of cilantro. They were also generous with the seafood in this dish as well. + Jalea - this was battered and fried so well! The dipping sauce makes all the difference with this dish. I know it's fairly common to get fried seafood (calamari and fried shrimp) but this style isn't as breaded as most so it has a good crisp while you're still getting that seafood flavor and texture. + Pitcher of sangria - I'm not a big fan of red wine but the sangria was a pleasant surprise. I enjoyed the fruit they added to the red wine and it made it easier to drink. The service was great. This place is delicious. They have really fun decor and you get to eat in their indoor/outside eating area. Perfect if you are looking to take some photos. We went at lunch time and it was not too busy at first but then it was busy. People were looking for tables and it was slim pickings. This was on a week day too. I called the restaurant and the manager told me that it's a chain restaurant the portions are what they are and that they are now smaller. This isn't small, this is minuscule. Came in a bit late, wished they would've told us that they couldn't take us In instead of having terrible service and food. 1. We had a server whom we communicated with about our water preference. One sparkling and one flat with ice. Another server approached us and asked us again our water preference.. then another server came and poured sparking water on both glasses. My partner told them that he just wanted regular water with ice, they took his glass to the kitchen and poured one serving of water... NO refills throughout the night. Thanks ! 2. Arroz con Mariscos ?? Dish sounded great in theory but turns out it's just a paella LOL nothing wrong but if it's a paella ... just call it a paella ? Even the server said A paella and then corrected himself by saying sorry arroz con mariscos. Which again confused us or everyone apparently including their own server. 3. Braised ribs ... which were previously prepared or paired with veggies (carrots and potatoes) is now just beans rice and meat. Again another let down for what they charged. It was also extremely salty so I asked for the habanero vinaigrette on the side. Was then handed a cup of onions drenched in straight lime juice. Seemed like the servers didn't know their own menu and definitely made me question everything I ordered. 4.Lychee cocktail This was surprisingly terrible. As someone who drinks and never says no to anything This was the first time I completely left a drink I couldn't even power through it. I had it before and remember it being so sweet and refreshing NOPE NOT ANYMORE.. I also thought it would possibly water down and get better somehow? But it actually got worse. I convinced my partner to take a sip and he almost spat it out.. even he said yeah I'm not drinking that. Lastly yes we asked for to go boxes because food is still food and plus we're paying... Wrong call apparently, because shortly after I put the food in the box the box was completely disintegrated from the bottom. I think a server noticed because they offered me a bag. Very good food and attentive staff. They were very accommodating and helped us find the best table to have a baby and stroller. The food, as in any Limon, is delicious. We got the fresh fish of the day Cheviche, fried cauliflower, kale salad and chicken (side of yuca fries and vegetables). Everything was good and I would order again! Fried cauliflower was my favorite. They were chunky but had a crispy layer of skin and sauce that added a ton of flavor but didn't feel greasy. The Ceviche was done excellent as well. I liked the dark meat on the chicken more than the white meat which was a bit drier but expected. The vegetables on the side was green beans and they were exceptionally flavorful and tasty. The ambience was great! The drinks were divine.. however the food was mediocre at best. I come from a seaside town, and rule #1... fresh seafood should never smell. I shouldn't have the slightest idea that there is seafood at my table (salty, salt water smell yes, but a pungent 'fishy' odor.. absolutely not). We ordered their ceviche which is a highlight on their menu and something they're known for. It comes out and I can smell it before it even gets to our table. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt because maybe I was just especially sensitive to smell that day.. nope. Took one bite and couldn't take another. It wasn't fresh, and I wasn't going to eat it. We called the waiter over and told him that the seafood was not fresh, didn't taste good and asked if we could order something else instead (mind you, at this point we were 2 drinks deep each, and had an upwards of 4-5 light bites at the table). He was hesitant and said, oh.. we can't do that. I said well can I speak to someone else, because this dish should not be consumed and people are going to get sick if they don't know better. He then has a change of heart. And spoke to the manager and we were told we could exchange the item but couldn't just send it back to the kitchen. Okay sir, whatever you say.. I stopped at Limon after my flight back to NY was cancelled. I was trying to kill time and found this place after walking around downtown Burlingame. Super fast service and very nice staff. I ordered a Don Carlitos Old Fashion to start which a nice strong drink to start. I ordered the Coliflor Picante for my app and it was perfect nice blend of healthy & savory. Then finished with the Arroz Con Pollo for my entree which the chicken was super juicy and easy to cut off the bone.
