Oh Little Bean, how I love thee. Boba is no joke here. In fact, I dare say that this is the best boba place I know ... and quite a boba addict I am, having worked in other boba shops before. There is just something magical about the way that these balls remain chewy, soft, and warm no matter what. The drinks are delicious and heavenly, always fresh and made to order. My favorites include the lychee green tea (with lychee bits), green tea, mango green tea, and milk tea .. all with boba. I have been going to Little Bean since the late 90s. It is a quaint little shop staffed by attentive Asian ladies who are skilled at whipping up delicious boba concoctions in the small space behind the counter. Prices are affordable as most drinks are around $3 each vs. your typical trendy boba joints which charge for boba, extra flavors, etc ... you get the point. Shaved ice is really good here too. All in all, this is a little taste of heaven. My friends and I often joke that they probably put something in here since we're all pretty addicted. P.S. My 1st time here was in Summer 2010. I was homesick and I wanted boba. In Singapore we call it bubble tea. Anyhooo the husband brought me here. I wanted honey milk tea but they didn't have it and I had the milk tea. Didn't like it. Fast toward 2 years later after grocery shopping at SF I walked across the parking lot into Little Bean. I looked at the menu and decided to get : Tapioca, egg pudding & tea. The lady scooped out the custardy pudding (yumyum), fresh boba from a hot pot and the milk tea. I had a big sip when she swiped my card. Not bad but it could really use some caramel AND chocolate drizzle AND honey. It was a tad too bland for my liking. Went home and added agave. SO MUCH BETTER! Did I come here on an off day? Order the wrong thing? Expectations too high? sadface. The place was empty when I got there around 7pm on a Saturday. I must say the ladies who were working were very kind, and my drink was made promptly, but the taste of it was probably the worst I've had in awhile. I ordered a Green Milk Tea with Boba, and I was so excited because I mean, it has four and a half stars on Yelp and I practically live for good boba! But at my first sip, ... disappointment ;-;. Maybe the tea wasn't that bad... Aromatic tea taste to it, all that goodstuff, but the boba really sucked. It was slightly chewy after the softer shell disgustingly dissolved in my mouth... I felt like it was melting or breaking down in my mouth. And it was sweet! But WAY too sweet. Not the good kind of boba sweet. Like putting a whole sugar cube in my mouth and not being able to spit it out. Hella nasty =____=... Also, it was weird how the size of the pearls were inconsistent. Man, Little Bean takes me back to high school! I remember getting my driver's license and thinking that I was the coolest thing because I could drive places and get food. And then I would just come to Little Bean which is like 10 min from my house and 5 min from school. -_- But seriously, Little Bean is legit. As in legit Chinese cafe/snack place. It's run by these Chinese women with the occasional young helper. They have lots of drinks (which I can't really vouch for because I only got it once and I don't really remember it..maybe it wasn't THAT good?), snack foods, candy, but I always go for the SHAVED ICE. They recently raise the price to $4 but still, much rather have that then a measly scoop of ice cream or cup of froyo. You get 4 add-ins! BOMBBB My usual: Condensed milk, coffee jelly, boba balls, and lychee. YUMMM winning combination right there. TIP: 1) Get the stamp card-buy so many drinks, get one free! (if they still offer it o.O) 2) Parking- try to get a parking spot that is not two inches from the next car, which actually might be impossible because that lot is always full, but man..asian drivers+small spots+full lot=not good for your car. I write this with hesitation because the owner lady is very nice, however I feel I must contribute my story to the yelp community. Ordered off of their "house special milk tea" list. Got the pedestrian tapioca green milk tea. Large was $3.95 (including boba). I watched her mix and scoop my boba from a large warming pot and get a large pre mixed pitcher of milk tea from her small refrigerator. She poured the little bit that was left in her pitcher into my cup. Got another pre-mixed pitcher from the back and filled up the rest of my cup. Paid and drove off. Took my first sip and gagged. There was an obvious taste of mold. Confused, I took another sip to make sure I tasted what I tasted. Yup it was mold. Too far to turn back and get a refund, I wadded up my stamp card, never to return. I'm sure mine was just an isolated case because there are several 5 star reviews on here. This was my first time here with some friends. We were craving for boba and one of the girls in the group recommended this place. It's a really cute place with lots of candy, asian snacks, different type of fruit drinks and of course bobas. In the corner, there were playing cards, domino, and chinese checker pieces that people can play with while dining there, very limited seating though..... Blargh. On my way back from OC, I was looking for a new place to try green milk tea. Little Bean came up on Yelp and I walked in due to rave reviews. This candy/drink shop isn't necessarily cutesy or charming like other tea places, but has more of a Tak Hsing Hong (Chinese Herb store) feel to it. Not conventional for a tea shop, but I thought I'd leave my prejudice at the door and get what I came for. The lady behind the counter was polite, but after I ordered and saw that she'd just picked up a jug of already mixed green milk tea from the counter (and who knows how long that pitcher's been sitting there...) and poured it over boba scooped from a slow cooker, my stomach just dropped. I was just thinking, Maaannn... The drink was a bit less expensive ($2.75) than most tea shops, but I wish I'd gone somewhere else. It wasn't awful, but the quality wasn't there in the tea or the boba. There wasn't a freshness to the tea or creaminess to the milk. While it was sweet enough (sugary) and the boba was soft (no springiness, though), there was something lacking about the entire product. *shoulder slump* This is the first time that the rating comment is an accurate description of how I felt. It wasn't terrible, but... Meh. I've experienced better. I won't be coming back to Little Bean. My cousin took me here today on a whim after hitting the laminate at the Covina Ikea. After a hard day of window shopping and controlling yourself from making impulse buys, you should definitely treat yourself to some very calm boba. That's because right now, at 206 reviews, this place has 4.5 stars and I can't possibly disagree more. I got the Milk Tea with almond jello and boba. I have to preface all of this by saying that just because something is one of a kind doesn't mean it's necessarily good. The smallest penis in the world could be one of a kind, but it's not really gonna be a positive. The same thing goes for this boba. Yeah, I've never encountered any boba like this before - nothing this bad. The texture doesn't feel consistent or even and the taste is almost too bland. The milk tea didn't help because it tasted like it'd been out for a while. Which is appropriate because the clerk just poured it out of a container that'd been sitting beside the register instead of, hm, making it when I ordered it. The almond jello was an interesting topping (bottom-ing?) but by then, I was already so disappointed it didn't even matter. I think Little Bean has been overlooked since the introduction of Half & Half and other tea places that are hyped. Little Bean is like an old, trusty friend; you can always count on it. When I come here, I usually get the shaved ice. They offer the normal taiwanese toppings (taro, oatmeal, pudding, rice balls, jellies, etc). Also, the GREEN BEAN SMOOTHIE is awesome. I drive 30 miles for this place and my weekends use to revolve around it. All their fruit drinks are made with real fruit, not powder crap, and they have green boba on the weekends. Their shaved ice is pretty awesome in the summer. To avoid moments of temporary insanity due to bad drivers/lack of parking, go either early (11:30-ish) or after 2:30 pm. Otherwise, you're just asking for it. What I do if I do go during peak hours on weekends is park across the street, and just walk over. Save yourself the grief and the finger flipping. I take people there all the time when we're out in the land of my peeps. I like that they're always the same people working there. I must have a million of their stamp cards since I never bring mine with me. They're good at consolidating them though. read more

Bumping up to 5 stars for some damn good tapioca milk tea rivaling my favorite spots back in the Bay Area. Little Bean is similar to Ten Ren with a retail section filled with a large variety of teas, Chinese candies, etc. along cafe area near the front. I was a bit skeptical when I saw the milk tea being poured out of a pitcher rather than being made to order, but I was sold upon my first sip. Exceptional tea flavor and a well-balanced honey-like sweetness that presented upfront and then lightened towards the finish. And when it comes to truly soft boba, Little Bean hits the nail on the head! Easily the best I've had in quite some time. read more

Old school boba place... I remember when Little Bean used to be crazy popular back in the early 2000s. Every once in a while, my friends would stop by here after summer league basketball games to get our milk tea fix. The highlight of Little Bean has always been the quality of their boba preparation- instead of leaving their boba in vats for half a day, allowing the tapioca to become cold and mushy, the boba here is served hot... Coupled with the iced cold milk tea, the hot-cold combination is a delightful sensation that leaves a lasting impression. As I observed at the nearby Hong Kong Plaza, it seems like not much has changed in the area... Which isn't necessarily a good thing. Korean Bap Bing Soo is good, but there's not much variety or choice. The highlight of Bap Bing Soo is cereal-whoopee. With Taiwanese shaved ice, there is a whole buffet of selection especially at Little Bean. The shaved ice here is a little bit more expensive than their competitor's but the quality of their toppings are worth the price. For example, their almond jello is really fresh and tasty. It's made from scratch at the store- not from powder or a can. The taste of Almond is strongly present. Their Egg Pudding is just as good too- the right consistency and plenty of egg yolk taste. Rice balls and boba are also cooked thoroughly and perfectly chewy. A lot of other places have crap uncooked or over cooked boba and rice balls. The drinks here are very good too. I prefer this place over Ten Ren because I feel like the ingredients here are actually fresh and not over processed. There's just so much more care and attention invested in their products here than other places. read more

Reminds me of high school! Like most people mentioned, this was one of the first boba places in RH to open up! Used to come her all the time after high school to get boba. Not the type of place to sit and relax like Ten Rens or Tea Station. More of a buy your drink, candy, etc, and walk around the plaza. My older sister introduced me to this boba place 13 years ago, and this place has been my favorite boba place ever since. Now that I live in San Diego, I don't get to go so often anymore but whenever I am in the area, I always make time to get my boba fix here. My favourite is their pudding milk tea, and their coffee tea milk tea. Their boba and their milk teas are just way better than other boba places. They also use real fruits for their fruit drinks too. I brought so many friends and families here and all of them love this place too! If you like colorful boba, they also make their green boba on week ends only. Like Mike L., I've never been a huge boba fan, there's something about drinking and chewing on mushy tapioca balls at the same time that doesn't work for me. Plus I somehow always manage to choke on a pearl or two. But while waiting for a table at Tan Cang Newport Seafood on Father's Day, I got thirsty and Little Bean was it. The store seemed to be packed with a hodgepodge of snacks, almost like an Asian 7-Eleven, minus the booze, of course. My brother got the strawberry smoothie with boba and I got the milky coffee and tea boba. The two older women behind the counter were actually quite pleasant, even stopping to ask customers, "How are you today?" I asked for minimal boba and watched the lady stir in my coffee and tea, no fancy shaking required. As others have stated, the draw at Little Bean lies in its tapioca pearls, which are served warm and impossibly gooey, soft as clouds. The bottom of the cup was still warm to the touch when we got our drinks. They tasted really fresh and went down quite easily. I was thisclose to finishing my drink when of course, one of the pearls just went down the wrong pipe and I was sputtering all over my plate of lobster. Doh! read more

I've been to Little Bean twice now, and was not super impressed both times. They do have a wide selection of drinks and have a lot of different toppings to include in your shaved ice - so I'll give them that... but its only good to me... not great (I actually prefer Ten Ren's). On my first trip, I opted for the lavender milk tea with boba (my favorite). It wasn't on the menu, but they said that they could make it. It was super watery and it had the tea leaves/lavender still in the drink! Some people may like that... but not really me. I'd never order that here again. On my second trip, I opted for hot tea. I had the longan hot tea... WAAY to sweet! I'd never have it again. But I will give it three stars because of their shaved ice, watermelon smoothie, and I'm sure they do a regular milk tea just fine... read more

I was actually reading reviews about Banana Bay when I saw a link to this place. Read the reviews and was eager to take my friend there. As I arrived there, it was as I read from the reviewers here on yelp. Candies everywhere! lol...It felt like one of those candy shops but Asian-style. My friend and I looked through their menu. I searched and searched for Honeydew Milk tea but I didn't see it, so my friend asked the workers if they had it. To our surprise they did! I was a happy camper =). As soon as we got our drinks, I noticed how hot the bottom of the cup was. I positioned my hand to a different location of the cup to get away from the steamy hot tapioca balls. Sat down and popped a straw into the drink. Man this Honewdew Milk tea was different from every other boba place I've tried. It had a unique taste to it and the tapioca balls were GOOD! I never found any places that makes their tapioca balls hot and fresh, but man they dump your cup with loads of balls lol. I will be going back to this place soon =). This is my all-time favorite boba place. I have been coming here since high school (almost 10 years ago). My favorite used to be the standard milk tea with boba, but over the last few years, I discovered their fresh watermellon juice with boba and their mango shaved ice with fresh mango and I add extra mochi balls...yum!!! This place beats all the other boba shops because their boba is cooked to perfection pefectly sweetened and always fresh (you know this cause they're still hot when they serve them to you). Their juices are also made of fresh fruit and not some Red #9 powdered stuff like everywhere else :) Plus they have a frequent customer card where you buy 10 drinks and get 2 free :) How great is that?! P.S. I've also been to their location in Richmond, Vancouver and the quality is just as good :) Oh, and they also have all those fun chinese snacks and you can play a nice game of jenga while you're eating :) read more

This place is absolutely amazing. I will drive a half an hour to come here and get boba if I'm craving it even if I have plenty boba joints around my house. This is because heck, they know how to make their boba. Fresh, warm, and squishy. Not cold and hard. It's kind of a cozy place to hang out, if I had time to hang out with some of my friends. They have chinese chess and Jenga. They also have a small candy place, but I don't pay too much attention to it. Prices are reasonable I suppose. Reasonable enough compared to all the other boba joints. My personal favorite is the Almond milk boba. A word of advice, this part of Rowland heights is always crowded and if you can find parking during the meal hours such as lunch time or dinner. Consider yourself lucky. It might even be a good idea to have a wing man pick up the boba while you circle around the parking lot. But don't worry, you won't be dissapointed, and if you were, you're gonna have to give it another shot at least just because even good restaurants have their off days.
