My favorite dishes were the beef wrapped in scallion pancake ($6.75), Shanghai chili oil/peanut sauce wontons ($7), and crispy salt fried chicken ($8). The Shanghai wontons were huge, and the chicken was super flavorful and crispy! The cold peanut noodles could have used more sauce and the Shanghai fried udon didn't have much flavor other than soy sauce, and didn't have many veggies/meat. Good food but be prepared for the oil in many of the dishes! Shanghai and taiwanese food is generally greasy from my experience and it is the case here. I was surprised at the good service. The man taking numbers for tables at the front entrance was very kind to us and made sure we got a good table since we had a baby stroller with us. They are very kid friendly and made sure to get water in plastic containers with straws and plastic utensils for the two toddlers with us. We ordered a whole bunch of dishes to share among four adults and two children. Service was VERY fast. Food started coming out piping hot. Pan Fried Pork Bun - Comes in four with dipping sauce. This wasn't bad but you can get it at those hole in the wall for cheaper and bigger. Soft bun with decent amount of pork filling. Soup buns - not bad at all. My favorite is still in Chinatown. The skin isn't too bad and good amount of meat and soup. Good flavor. However, this restaurant is a good alternative if you want to avoid the Flushing chaos. Beef scallion pancake - like your regular scallion pancake but with beef. I enjoyed it! Dip it in the sauce and you're good to go. Good sharing size. Nice and crispy without feeling too heavy. Shanghai udon noodles - nothing out of the ordinary. It feels like a smaller portion than what you get in Flushing. Pork rice cake - Lots of shredded pork. Same as the Shanghai noodles - standard dish. Beef fried rice - this was the first dish that came out. Pretty good for simple fried rice. Crispy chicken - I liked this dish! Nice and crispy without tasting the nasty oil. Good chunk of meat and not all batter. Great appetizer to share. It get's crazy packed for lunch so come early or late. This is a diamond in the rough. There's actual parking. It's not deep in the city. When you went we the place is super clean. Amazingly welcoming. The staff and hostess are absolutely amazing. Then there's the food. You can't find soup dumplings on the island. And you'd have to go to the city. This is some of the beat food I've ever ate in my life. The buns were the starter. And they were soft tasty and the scallion sauce with it was perfect compliment. Next the corn chicken soup. Prob one of the best soups I've ever had in my life. Not heavy the taste was amazing and seasoned just right. Then the pork and soup dumplings. The display was great. And the taste was out of this world. Honestly this place is a classic. Having grown up in the area, I grew up often eating their rice cakes with snow cabbage or their iconic soup dumplings. While the wait time, like many other places, depend on how busy it is, one can usually expect to receive their food in 15 minutes or so which is so reasonable for the amount of food and how good it is. The food was pretty good but not mind blowing. So why the 5 stars? Their service was impeccable. Whatever we needed, they offered. Whatever we couldn't think of, they were one step ahead of us. Surprisingly very good! *CASH ONLY* When you see this restaurant from the outside it does not look very impressive but once you get inside you immerse yourself in a very modern styled Asian cuisine restaurant. We were able to get a seated right away and we order the the crab/pork soup dumplings which were absolutely delicious it had the perfect amount of meat to soup ratio so the soup doesn't spill all over you. For the entrees we got 1)sesame beef which was very interestingly sweet and fried deliciousness 2) pan friend- Taiwanese noodles which was just as good. Food: I usually come here to avoid the crowds in chinatown and flushing and of course for the parking. The food here is good, good soup dumplings, they're not that greasy and won't make you feel like you'll have a heart attack after ( Joe Shanghai fans, you know what I'm talking about!). For 2 people we usually get the pork and crab soup dumplings, which are nice and juicy, very flavorful soup, and a nice thin dumpling skin. We also get the beef scallion pancakes (bomb!!), and we usually add a spicy wonton or a noodle. The service is good and the food is good. Highly recommended if you want to avoid the crowds. I literally came here for their soup dumpling as I was in the area . I heard from other Yelpers some nice reviews about the restaurants specialty . It was past 5 pm on a Friday night and hit an easy parking spot to next door's establishment ( bank). It was not crowded yet when I walked in. Placed the order and in less than 15 minutes I got my soup dumpling and my Shanghai style rice noodle. Being alone has an advantage. I have tried 2 bite size already when a waiter came over to tell me that the one I have was a pork . My pork and crab dumpling order has just arrived. They switched and apologized . When I was trying the pork and crab that I realized, I preferred the pork. My rice noodle was soft and packed with lots of meat. It was my first soup dumpling experience and I enjoyed it. The dumpling was soupy and tasty. I have trouble in the beginning on the right way to eat it. I placed a take out order for the family to enjoy it as well together with some other popular meals. The restaurant is nice and neat. It is a good spot for a simple celebration . The staff is nice. The wait bench is neat . The restaurant 's logo ( smiley dumpling!) is so cute and pasted as a mark identifier for the restroom, changing table , business card, toothpick holder etc. The mode of payment is by cash so be ready for that. There was 4 of us, and we got seated within 20 minutes I'd say? The service was decent, but I've come to find that's expected from any Asian restaurant. The food, though, hit the spot. We got both types of soup dumplings (with crab and without). The crab one was better in my opinion than the one without. We also got the scallion pancakes, sautéed green beans, house rice cake...and two other noodle dishes I don't know the English name for. ^^" Anywho! It was all pretty good. Came with a client for dumplings. The Xiao Long Bao were pretty good. We had both the pork and pork/crab (the pork/crab were more flavorful). Good size and broth, and spread far enough apart that they didn't stick together (yay!). The skins were a little tick and chewy - maybe they use the same skins for these as other dumplings? Other than that still good. Also had the Har Gow shrimp dumplings (good) and the vegetable tofu soup (cooked perfectly, but needed chili oil for flavor. We were told it was mix of red bean mochi and peanut mochi, but we only got red bean. We ordered some steam dumplings, a hot and sour soup and my friend ordered an extra spicy beef noodle soup. The noodle soup was just okay and the hot and sour soup was missing a lot of depth. The dumpling skins were thick and heavy. I love the idea of this place and reading the menu they have a lot of authentic Chinese and Taiwanese dishes however the flavor (and price) has been too westernized. If you want authentic tasting Chinese food this is not the place for you. However if you have a family of picky eaters, this might be worth a try. In my opinion I would not come back. read more

I'm in love with this restaurant. It was recommended by my brother in law and we finally tried it for the first time today. The service is exceptional, my cup of tea is always full. The staff is efficient and friendly, a bonus that they also speak Cantonese and Mandarin. The restaurant is spacious and zero wait time for our seats. We came at 1 p.m. Saturday. Not the best for soup dumplings, but ok if you don't want to make the trip out to Flushing. I found the new Bayside location better for their dumplings and food overall. This location has a parking lot but there's also street parking along the residential streets. Our party didn't have to wait for a table on a Saturday afternoon. The food came out pretty quickly and the servers did check up on us a few times. The cucumber and garlic appetizer came with large pieces peppers which was interesting.
