The meat in the shaky shaky beef was tender and cooked to perfection but again issue was taste. On a very positive note were the drinks. Cute little spot in El Segundo. Decor and layout was great. Parking wasn't a problem. The food was pretty good. Our party had ordered quite a few dishes actually. My beef was cooked really well. Tender and flavorful. The chicken was fried crispy and the sauce it was served with had a nice spice to it. The dessert was unlike anything I've tried before. Went here last night 10/9/24. Love the atmosphere. Decor is very nice for fine dining experience. Service was good, can be better. Now to the food. We ordered the triple garlic noodles (was way too salty, not worth the cost either), the black rice (Not good at all. Not sure what it was suppose to taste like, it just did not taste good imo. Maybe a Select few individuals may like it), lastly we had the fried sea bass (this was good, sauce was good. But for a fine dining type restaurant I would imagine they will have it in a wrap already made. It was a bit messy to eat as you use the lettuce to wrap). So the sea bass was the only thing that was finished. The garlic noodles and black rice was taken to go. Ended up tossing the left overs away the next day. Just was not good. There was a good portion of the black rice left too. Just ate the couple pieces of shrimp and muscle that's it. The rest in the trash. However, speed of service did not reflect this. We would order extra lime, or hot sauce, or another drink.. and just about everything took so much time that the extra thing we ordered wasn't even necessary anymore because by that point food was more than halfway finished. Also, it took unimaginably long just to receive our tab at the end. Overall, food was solid. Definitely have had better, but have definitely also had worse Viet food so I'll give them that. Honestly, this is probably one of our favorite spots in the South Bay now. It makes sense why it was featured in LA Magazine or was it the LA Times? Can't recall exactly but nonetheless the call out is totally deserving. If there's one dish on the menu that I would be heartbroken that you didn't try it would be the 'bo tai chanh' (lime marinated raw beef, eggplant pickles, vietnamese herbs, grilled baguette). Can't go wrong with a craft cocktail from the ever-changing drink menu - the Hare of the Cat (Song Cai Vietnamese gin, grapefruit, Lillet Blanc, pomegranate, gold) is delicately delicious, while the Boomslang (Cazadores Reposado tequila, Sombra mezcal, pineapple, tamarind, agave, Thai chili) is just as delectable but with a bit more oomph. The food selections, which also appear to rotate regularly, feature bright, Vietnamese fusion flavors. I've been to this location a few times before--always mediocre at best--but this last visit sealed it for me. I won't be returning, and here's why. I arrived five minutes early for my reservation and still had to wait over eight minutes to be seated. The hostess vanished, reappeared to serve another table, then finally decided to seat me. Not a great start. Once the rest of my party (three total) arrived, we asked for waters. While settling in, my friend noticed hair on his utensils. Disgusting. We requested a new set. A few minutes later, we placed our drink orders and starter: an appetizer, hot tea, hot water, and a lemonade. The lemonade and hot water showed up quickly. The hot tea? We had to ask twice, and it took another ten minutes to get it. Then it got worse--when my friend lifted his tea to drink, he noticed food residue stuck on the inside of the cup. Dirty dishes at a restaurant with an "A" health rating? Unacceptable. As if that wasn't enough, his replacement hot water had black flecks floating in it. Not tea, not coffee--just random black particles. When my food arrived, it came with lettuce wraps. I started eating, only to discover--mid-bite--that one of the lettuce leaves had visible caked on dirt and mold. I immediately inspected the others. Sure enough, more dirt and mold. Not as bad, but still revolting. It took ten minutes just to flag someone down. When the manager finally came, she took the plate to the kitchen to "show the staff." She returned a few minutes later to offer a replacement entrée, but not once did she apologize. When the check came, I assumed the moldy dish would be removed and replaced with the cost of the new one. Nope. They kept the more expensive, moldy dish on the bill and comped the cheaper tea and replacement meal. Still no apology from anyone on staff. At this point, I didn't even touch the replacement meal. Between the filthy utensils, dirty dishes, moldy produce, and slow, inattentive service, I was done. Nobody checked on us during the meal--not for refills, not to see if we needed anything, not to ask if our food was okay. The overall lack of care was staggering. This place may have an "A" in the window, but in reality, it's barely scraping by. Poor cleanliness, subpar service, and zero accountability. Their takeout is completely terrible. I called in twice to do a pickup order around 12:30 and both times they told me it would be ready in about 20 mins. I get there, and the hostess tells me they haven't started on my order yet and it'll just be about 10 minutes. And then we waited and walked around and arrived again then she tells me they haven't started on the order yet. So after rounds of me waiting and coming back- it eventually took 45 mins AFTER I waited 20 mins to get there. Why the long wait for an order of overpriced spring rolls?! Don't take phone orders if you cannot handle them. I only came back because i thought it was an isolated situation. The sad part is that when it happened the second time, the hostess acknowledged that she remembered it happened last time. The issue isn't the hostess, she was really nice and has no control of what happens in the kitchen. Service needs to be improved because they don't prioritize their phone orders. Got the honor to try some fusion Vietnamese food here at this establishment in El Segundo for the first time with great company of fellow coworkers. Plenty of parking stalls nearby but can get packed really quick; best to go here during early lunch or after lunch rush hour. Once you arrive the lovely waitress will greet you and offer you a dinning option of indoors or outdoors, weather permitting. The interior is well decorated and has an Open Interior Design to allow air circulation and natural lighting. If you choose indoor, you'll be seated in one of the many fine decorative 21 or so tables seating any where from 2 to 4 seats. There is also a bar area tucked to side of the building that you can request to sit at or venture to for their delighted cocktails or mixed drinks; it was lunch so returning back to work was warranted. Since it was my first time here, I simply opted to try their Vietnamese Crepe/Pancake containing shrimp/prawns and assortment of veggies to pair it with. I was surprised at how well the consistency of their pancakes and how thick the flour was. It allowed you to wrapped it with the veggies and enough meat in it to combine it with the sauce; another staple of Vietnamese dining. This was a good decision on my coworkers inviting me over to lunch. It was worth it. Next time, I'll try the other dishes to give a sense of different variety of taste. My husband and I stopped by Little Sister in El Segundo hoping for a great experience--but what we got felt more like an afterthought. We walked in to an empty hostess stand and stood there awkwardly until a hostess/server finally noticed us. She looked right at us, asked us to wait, then turned back to her chat with the bartender and casually changed the TV channel. Not exactly rolling out the welcome mat. After about 5 minutes (and a nearly empty restaurant with maybe 4-5 tables seated), we were finally shown to a table. No greeting, no questions about whether we'd been there before, no menu walk-through. Just a silent drop-off and walk-away. When she returned to take our drink order, I barely started describing the lychee cocktail I was interested in when she cut me off. The drink arrived after 30 minutes--and surprise--it was the wrong one. We waited another 20 minutes after that. No one came to check on us. No one asked if we were ready to order appetizers or a main dish. Tired of waiting and hungry, we eventually got up and left. What really sealed the experience was the server's attitude. She never once asked why we were leaving. No apology, no acknowledgment--just a dismissive glance like we were an inconvenience. The whole vibe was condescending and careless. I typically go the one in redondo beach, but this one seems a bit fancier and the service is more top-notch (constant checking in for food, filling water, etc). Most the customers next to us seemed like usuals who were very enthusiastic and come frequently. Why I felt like the food experience could have been better is that: 1. The menu are a bit hard to read / understand. So hard to rely on Yelp pictures 2. All our food were very good in the first few bites - piping hot, crunchy, sweet, sour, spicy, umami. Everything is made with such care and craft and the flavours are still very complex and multidimensional. I absolutely adored the Shaky Shaky Beef-- the meat was tender and perfectly seasoned, the tomato rice complemented the beef glaze, and the salad provided a refreshing balance. The Salmon Crudo was also amazing!!! The salmon was fresh and the coconut lime chili vinaigrette was so goooooood. My ultimate fave though were the Butter Basted Escargot Poppers. They're wrapped with puff pastry and their flavour is subtle, but so addictive. When dipped in the tomato sauce, they become even more superb. I highly HIGHLY recommend. As for the drinks, I had their Glamenade and my friend got their Lychee Lavender Sour. The Glamenade was a little too sweet for my liking, but my friend loved her drink. I've loved all of the food we've ever tried here, the Vietnamese fusion flavors are punchy and savory. While it's hard to narrow down the menu options, 3 of these dishes would have been perfect for our party of 2 during our last date night. Little Sister does a very good job of putting an interesting twist on traditional Vietnamese cuisine. I had the following items: -Crispy Prawns -Sautéed Eggplant -Shaky Shaky Beef -House Triple Garlic Noodles -"Xoi" Sticky Rice All items ranged from good to very good. I think the stand-outs for me were the eggplant, garlic noodles and sticky rice. The eggplant, although simple, was delicious - the vegetable had the perfect texture and I really enjoyed the layers of flavors. The garlic noodles were also very good...the addition of Parmesan cheese added a unique flavor profile to the plate. The sticky rice wasn't what I expected - there were actually "cubes" of sticky rice, surrounded by layers of spices. I really appreciated the uniqueness of the various dishes. To go with the menu, the space is also decorated with a modern appeal. The service was good and I felt like we were taken care of by the staff. Pro's: - House spiced crispy chicken- the best dish we had IMO, chicken had a nice crispy skin and was cooked well. The dipping sauce added some umami and the salad was refreshing. - Food came out relatively quickly Con's: - Service was not great. It seemed like they were understaffed but we had to wait to get seated, to have our order taken, and to get refills on water. We had a reservation at 5pm on a Saturday and the restaurant was pretty busy. Our server was okay but she wasn't that attentive. - I get that Little Sister is more of an upscale Vietnamese restaurant, but I don't know if I can justify the price for the quality of food. I regularly frequent Garden Grove and Westminster and a more authentic version of the food is typically $10-15 less. - Our other dishes were not remarkable. The chicharrones were airy and crispy. I was hoping for a more prominent salt and vinegar flavor. We ordered spring rolls but got egg rolls for some reason. The egg rolls were also average. I was surprised by the Shaky Shaky Beef - it's very popular but IMO was not great. The meat was not very tender and coated in a soy sauce prominent sauce. The weather was lovely so we sat outdoors with heated lamps, nice touch. Our server Jade was very sweet and attentive. We ordered the 'Xoi' Sticky Rice: lap cheong, pork floss, crispy shallots, slow egg, roasted chili vinegar. This was hands down our favorite dish out of the bunch! So much flavor, so many different textures and just an explosion of goodness. The rice was shaped into cubes and cooked like a crispy rice. Tossed with the Chinese sausage, pork floss, crispy shallots and egg and sauce. DUDE!!! I am still dreaming about this dish and my cousin and I are still talking about it. The flavors combined are legit amazing!!! A must try dish. The rice was the highlight of this dish along with the combination of everything else. Definitely does not lack flavor. Also got the 'Ca Kho To: Vietnamese caramelized & coconut braised salmon in claypot. Not really the traditional Ca Kho To so you shouldn't expect that. The salmon was buttery good and surprisingly juicy. The crispy skin was perfect. The flavors were light but not really that caramelization you get from the traditional dish. Still delicious but very Americanized. I was stoked about the Pho Banh Cuon: beef & tendon, herbs, lettuce, pickled onion. This unfortunately not very good. The white rice noodle was cold and hard, it should have been soft and thin. It was also thick and not enjoyable. The beef and everything inside was just ok. I wanted a pop of Pho flavors when I bite into this but it didn't taste like "Pho". I needed more herbs, hoisin or sriracha for that pop of flavor. This was disappointing and I really wanted to love it. I think at least if the white rice noodle was thinner and fresh, it may have saved the dish. Pass on this one. Nem Nuong Summer Roll: grilled pork spring roll, red leaf lettuce, mint, carrot, cucumber, house sauce. It was tasty and the rice paper was soft and chewy. Wish they rolled it tighter because you pick it up and try to dip it in the sauce and it falls apart. The dipping sauce that came with this had a shrimp and crab mixture, my cousin is allergic to shrimp and we noted that so when a different server brought this to our table and noted the sauce, my cousin had to confirm with our server Jade. Good thing we caught that. We asked for the regular peanut dipping sauce and that was so much more flavorful than the shrimp and crab option. Loved the hint of coconut. All in all, I would totally come back here and bring my husband or family. I have been to the El Segundo location a few times. This last visit was bad. Just bad. Our server disappeared. I was almost 3/4 done with dinner when I finally asked someone else if I could please have my tea. Our server delivered it without an apology. It's hot water and a tea bag! The garlic noodles were really tasty but almost $20 for noodles and a few garlic cloves? The sticky rice was TERRIBLE. Our family is Asian and are restaurant people. There are SMALL pieces of the Chinese sausage but really greasy. The pieces of sticky rice taste as if they cook them in advance and then re-fry them before serving. Gross. Would be better if they just gave a scoop of sticky rice. The best dish was the chicken which my Mom really enjoyed. By then, I was over dinner. Downgrading... was my favorite place in El Segundo... but things are changing. 90% full inside on a Thursday - 1/2 full outside and service was SLOW. 10 minute wait to order... and understaffed... hard to get wait staff attention. Menu changing - not for the better. Black Cod is replaced by fried Sea Bass that is much drier and you are suppose to wrap it in lettuce with assorted condiments... a huge downgrade. Goi Cuon also downgraded - thinner without the crispy twirl crunch and prawns are now extra at a price bump. Green Papaya Salad - similar with LESS shrimp and more spicy peppers. Coconut curry chicken - PASS - BLAND and boring. So - prices up, slow service and weird menu changes... I hope it improves... read more

Delicious Vietnamese/Asian- American cuisine in a fun, warm and welcoming vibe! Most Asian restaurants completely lack in aesthetic and ambiance. However, Little Sister had that total Date Night or GNO vibe. Full cocktail bar with signature cocktails as well. There's a mix of Vietnamese classics like Pho and Spring Rolls but they also offer Green Papaya Salad and Bun Mi's come with a side of seasoned fries (both items i HIGHLY recommend). The Pho was fine but lacked that umami broth you would find at Vietnamese restaurants where you order by the number. Spring rolls were good but nothing spectacular. However the chicken bun mi was delicious, flavorful and the fries were perfection. Same thing with the papaya salad; crisp, refreshing, fishy, sweet, spicy - covered all the basis. Service was pleasant and kind. We had multiple people checking back in with us throughout our time there. I had forgotten that I've been to little sister in DTLA before. But coming out of LAX, we wanted to grab something quickly before catching a ferry to Catalina Island. From the pictures the place looked cute, so we rented a car and quickly went there. However, we had miscalculated the time needed to head to Long Beach waterfront and after we sat down and ordered, we had to immediately pivot to take out. The staff was helpful. Bahn Xeo is supposed to be crispy and chewy. This was far from it. Barely any crunchiness, just a small amount on the top fold. The rest was soft, not to mention, the entire bottom was a super soggy mess... it was porridge like. Absolutely horrible, I'd be embarrassed if I sent this out of my kitchen. The salmon is just okay, very small portion with twice as much rice. Sauce had a decent flavor. Not worth the price. Interior is really warm and fun. Service from Jasmine was outstanding.
