1.30.24 First time ordering from LJ's. They are in the same complex as my office and employees often go here. Having a salad isn't typically my first preference for a tasty lunch, but I generally like Chicken Caesar Salad so thought it was a good choice. Sadly I was mistaken. The chicken was dry, croutons were mushy, not enough dressing and the flavor wasn't great. I should have went for a sandwich, but was trying to be healthy since I was having an unhealthy dinner. Maybe next time I'll stick to one of their sandwiches and have a better experience. The upside of my experience was that I was able to place my order online and it was ready when I came to pick it up.

I can't believe I'm just finding out about this place. I literally work right next to it. My co worker told me about this spot and now I'm hooked. They serve breakfast and lunch and it's busy. It's busy for a reason. At first if you drive up you won't see it, there is a door in the back where you can get inside from but there is a walkway through some small bushes. Haha you can go inside the office building to get here too but the back way is easier. They have so many options to choose from. They have snacks, muffins, drinks. Sandwiches and pancakes. This is a one stop shop. I got their tuna wrap and it was good. My coworkers rave about their Ruban sandwich and go there weekly just for that. Customer service is top notch! This is one of those sneaky deli shops that you have to try out! No regret!

Whether it's breakfast or lunch, LJ takes great care of his customers with fresh, tasty & cheap food.

Love LJ'S sandwiches. The breakfast isn't all that great. The waffle was soggy. They deliver so that is a definite plus.

There was also a bountiful assortment of pickles, so necessary for rounding out the sandwich with a nice acidic snap! I recommend.

We were seated immediately and had water brought to our table. Menu was extensive, with overstuffed sandwich classics like Reubens and clubs, salads and classic fare like knishes and lox. They also serve breakfast all day. I had the grilled veggie wrap. It came with homestyle potato chips. My companion had a tuna melt (solid albacore) with pepper jack cheese on an English muffin (also with chips). Both portions were huge. The veggies were still crunchy but cooked thoroughly (zucchini, squash, peopers and onions) with red pepper hummus stuffed in a huge burrito style spinach tortilla. Comfort food done well. As a bonus there was a pickle bar of half sour, full sour pickles, cornichons, sauerkraut and pickled peppers. Favorites were the half sour pickles and sauerkraut (went well with the wrap). Great meal!

Any Marylander of the Boomer and GenX generation knows about O'Donnell's RUM BUNS. I used to come here with family back in its heyday and these were served table side before our meal. How crazy is that, a nice lil somewhat sinful dessert BEFORE some MD crab?! Those were the days! The rum buns are more nostalgia more than anything, I wouldn't say they'll blow your socks off, but hey, nostalgia is nostalgia. Well, I'll need to dine in here for a full and complete verdict, but my quick grab and go visit was a tad chaotic. Service for taking orders could improve - you walk in, there's a seafood counter to your left, bakery counter to your right (both were unmanned when I walked in) and in the middle is a deli section with the cash register where I assume they take orders. We stood there for a few good minutes before getting anyone's attention despite the fact a manager asking staff (not customers) if everyone was being helped. Clearly staff did not know who was waiting to check out, take orders or just waiting for their orders to arrive. So it was just weird. No one greeting you as you walk in either, it just also weird because there's no clear line anywhere you stand. Otherwise, rum buns were as I remembered them. Also picked up crab dip and chicken salad from the grab and go section from the back and they were just ok, not bad, not great. So will come again for a future visit hoping to have a much better meal and experience!

We ordered the Big Eaters Platter, the Corned Beef Hash & Eggs, and shared a Nutella Crepe with Strawberries for dessert. The portions were generous, especially the Big Eaters Platter, making it a solid choice if you're coming in hungry. The corned beef hash was decent, and the Nutella crepe with fresh strawberries was a nice sweet finish to the meal. That said, I thought the food was just okay for the price. Nothing we ordered was bad, but nothing really stood out enough to make me want to come back. The quality was solid, but I left feeling like there are better breakfast options in the area for the same price point. If you work nearby or are visiting one of the surrounding medical offices or hospitals, I could definitely see this being a convenient spot for a quick breakfast or lunch. However, as someone visiting the area, I don't think it's a place I'd go out of my way to return to. Overall, friendly service and a clean restaurant helped make for a pleasant experience, but the food didn't quite justify the price. A good neighborhood café if you're close by, but probably not a destination breakfast spot.

My go-to is the sausage and scrambled egg on a multigrain bagel; it never disappoints. You can actually watch them making fresh bagels, and it shows. The texture is spot on, perfectly chewy on the inside with just the right amount of crisp on the outside. Everything tastes fresh, and service is quick, even during busy times. The staff is always friendly, which makes the experience even better. Their cream cheese is excellent, too rich, flavorful, and a noticeable step up from the typical grocery store options. They also carry cookies and other treats from local vendors, which are definitely worth trying if you have a sweet tooth. If you're craving a solid bagel sandwich, this is the place to go. Bonus: free parking makes it an easy stop.

I ordered the BLAT bagel sandwich, which came with bacon, lettuce, avocado, tomato, red onion, and cream cheese on a fresh bagel. The sandwich was filling and had generous portions of bacon and avocado, but overall I thought it was just good, not something I'd go out of my way for. I also paired it with an iced coffee, which was exactly what I expected from a standard cold brew. The shop was busy and the staff kept the line moving, and there are plenty of bagel sandwich options on the menu. My biggest downside was the price. It's on the expensive side for what you get, and while the quality was good, I didn't feel it justified the cost. Overall, Bethesda Bagels is worth trying if you're in the area, but I wouldn't consider it a destination bagel shop. The food was good, just not memorable enough for me to make it a regular stop.

Although the prices are not the same as they once were, that was 25 years ago. It's a spacious, organized spot that I could see getting packed around lunch time. I ordered a couple of banh mi for pick up for lunch. Ordering online made it super easy to customize my sandwich without feeling like I'm being too complicated. For myself I got the #1 Special. This is the classic cold cut sandwich with 3 types of Vietnamese cuts (ham, head cheese, pork roll) and pate. I opted for all the ingredients plus extra jalapeños. It was delicious! My sandwich was loaded with pate and came with a good layer of meats. The bread is the closest to an actual Saigon style banh mi I have had in this area. It has a crisp shell but is softer in the center so it doesn't cut up the roof of your mouth when you bite down on it. I also like a sprinkle salt & pepper on top of my banh mi veggies so I just added it when I got home. They offer a sandwich and soup combo that I'd like to try next time with a lot of other items. I really quite like the service, it felt like they cared and made some suggestions that I took them up on. I will say that the grilled pork was a little more salty than I like for it to be. But I was very happy with how generous they are with the vegetables. I tend to stuff my sandwich with vegetables, and I barely finished using all the veggies that they bagged up for me since my flight was a little bit later in the day. The food kept well and it definitely did what it was intended for which was to keep me not starving through the long six hour flight. They had the green pandan cake, which I really love. But it was not as good (flavorful) as the one I had in Vegas at another shop, so slightly disappointed, but it was still decent. Helped to curb the craving for it. I definitely would come back. Their price point is good. Their value is good. They had some other things on the menu that I wouldn't mind trying. People at the airport were looking at my sandwich and asking where they could get one and I had to tell them sadly it's not available at the airport.
