I freaking love this place. Ceviche is my favorite form of seafood, and Llama Kid does not disappoint. We got the Ceviche sampler, which is the perfect way to sample all their different ceviche. All the ceviche come in cute mugs, which is so you can drink the leftover liquid (called "Tiger's Blood"). The Ceviche Clasico was my favorite. It was light, tangy, and flavorful. The Mixto is essentially the same, but with calamari. The Nikkei has a stronger, more musky/heavy taste. It was still good, but I definitely preferred the Classico. We also got their Yuca fries which were tasty and I strongly recommend these as well. For my main dish, I got their Arroz Chaufa, which is a tasty veggie fried rice. I was so full from the ceviche and yuca fries that I only got a few bites of this. My mouth was bursting with flavor. The only downside is that it's a bit salty after awhile. For dessert, we got their tres leches and complimentary chocolate cake for two of my friend's birthday. The tres leches is solidly good, while their chocolate cake comes with a passion fruit/vanilla ice cream. Neither of these are must gets, but nonetheless satisfying, and if it's your birthday, you get free cake! I love their outdoor tables, and there are fans for the summertime. I heard mixed reviews at Llama Queen and initially I was trying to meet some friends at De Nada's restaurant across the way, but there was an hour and half wait! I'm glad we migrated over here and found ourselves more enjoyable dinner with plenty of parking. The restaurant itself is mostly outdoors, but they have it covered with mist fans! I brought my dog with me and they were pet friendly in the patio which I alwats appreciate ATX restaurants are pet friendly. Customer service from our waitress "Grace" was top notch and the apps, entrees, and cocktails were tasty, & delicious. To celebrate my friend's birthday we wanted to check out llama kid. We wanted to try somewhere new and had heard good things. As we walked in we noticed the decor was beautiful and there was live music. We made reservations before hand, so we were able to be seated right away. Our table was on the patio and it was a gorgeous night, and we had live music behind us so that made it even better. The cocktails that we ordered were good and were out pretty quick. As for the food we decided to start off with the cebiche Classico, which was good, but not exactly our favorite. For our entrees we both got the tenderloin saltado which was very flavorful, but again came out a little cold. This is a lovely restaurant with ample parking spaces and outdoor seating. Perfect for patio season. The decor is very cute and servers are extremely nice and knowledgeable. We ordered the Maracuya sour and Maracuya juice which I love. We had the yucca frita and that very soft on the inside while crispy on the outside and the yellow sauce it was served with was amazing! For mains I went with the pulpo which was a nice size dish. It was a bit more to the salty side and very garlicky. I love those flavors profiles, but if you're not a fan, ask your server for options. The pulpo was soft and the broccolini and potatoes added to the freshness of the dish. Just wish the pulpo had more of a char, but it was very flavorful nonetheless. Our server brought us a chocolate cake, which I just had a small bite as I'm gluten intolerant, but it was nice. Not too sweet and the caramel sauce it was served with was delicious. The mains are completely mediocre. I am still giving them five stars. If I am giving them five stars, that must mean everything else is really spectacular, right? Well, everything else really is really spectacular. So, this is a place you want to go. * * * So what is so amazing about Llama Kid? 1) The Ceviche. This is the Best Peruvian Ceviche I have had in the United States. I have been on the "dating market" with Peruvian Ceviche for a long time. I have ordered it on the East Coast, on the West Coast and in Austin. I am always disappointed and have to comfort myself with other things on the menu. This ceviche (marked the "Classico" on the menu) completely blew me away. There are two exotic kinds of corn on the plate, one a white hominy and one a dried cornseed. The fish is lovely. The marinade is to die for. There is sweet potato to let you rest and regroup between the sensual thrills of the corn and the fish. It is actually a nice pacer. I could have made a meal out of multiple servings of the Ceviche. 2) The Bar Programme. Usually at Peruvian places, I order something with Pisco. If I can, I get an upmarket specialty brand of one sort or another and drink it straight. However, I never turn down a good Pisco Sour. For various reasons, I went with a mango vodka cocktail, thinking I was surely going to regret it. I was picked up by the cocktail angels and transported to the land of mango happiness. A quick look around the room showed a whole lot of other people ordering the mango vodka. I think the word is out about this drink. It is a total winner. 3) The grilled skewers. The love of my life who is not a grilled skewer fan raved about her tuna belly skewer. Note that the skewers here are small. Learn to live with that or think about ordering more than one. 4) Desserts. I had my doubts about getting a cheesecake with berries and caramel. Berries are not very good in Texas. Well they found a berry conserve that is good enough ... But that is not why you are getting the cheesecake. The cheesecake itself is a serious adult dessert. Not unsweet - but only marginally sweet. Full of sophisticated cooked soft cheese flavor. Full of redolent taste but not overpoweringly rich the way a Jewish cheesecake would be. The fruit and caramel make good backup singers. It is a dessert you think about as you eat it. I only had good thoughts. 5) The Ambience. This is one of the best executed outdoor restaurant spaces in Austin. Possibly the number one outdoor restaurant spaces for aesthetic effect and artistic cool. The restaurant is in a complex of sheds that include a sculpture studio. Most Austin art - including the sculpture - is not very good. Usually, when I go to an Austin gallery show or a local sculpture garden, It makes me want to move to Santa Fe or Taos where they have real artists. But these sculptures are amazing. There are two motifs - either done by the same or different sculptors. One is a set of Peruvian style wood sculptures of totem figures. The second is a set of large "giant jacks" with various spheres or other appendages making the spikes more interesting. All of these are put into a gracious greenspace with a nice lawn, and covered spaces done with well executed wood cloth supports for the roof and nice stools and chairs. The fans blow vast amounts of cooling water on you. If there is a drought in Austin, That is because most of the Austin municipal water supply is being fan-blown on to the customers of Llama Kid. But it does make the outdoor space comfortable as well as beautiful. I could stay out there forever. * * * Note that it is probably not the case that every main at Llama Kid is terrible. I was very unimpressed with a chicken rice. "Fried rice" dishes are a Peruvian specialty and they are superb at most competing Peruvian places. The quinoa salad was that's nice dear - although I hear there are vegans who adore the salad. But I am sure if I messed around the menu enough I would find the entrees that I liked. * * * But you gotta give five stars for any restaurant who is the best at one thing they do. The ceviche would earn Llama Kid an easy five stars. Add the bar programme and the amazing location as well as the solidness of lots of the other stuff ... And you can see a major new restaurant has come to town. While you are out there, ask for the name of the sculptor and buy two or six of the sculptor's works. Came here to celebrate Father's Day with my husband and we didn't have the best time and here's why: 1.) The host (not sure if he was the manager) wouldn't stop staring at my husband which is uncomfortable to anyone. I asked my husband if he wanted to leave and he said no. It got busier so the host wasn't staring as much. 2.) The food was good and so were the drinks but I do find it overpriced. My husband unfortunately got really sick right when we finished eating. We're not sure if it was the ceviche or the beef plate he ate. I didn't get sick. 3.) The outside seats are not comfortable and being short, I had to place my napkin on the table so it wouldn't fall. The waitresses and waiters that attended us were very friendly and provided great information on the menu. But we will not return since the host's energy wasn't good. I was craving Peruvian food and wanted to meet a friend who was new to town, and I heard great things about Llama Kid. Then seeing they were 5 minutes from my office, I knew I had to go. I pulled up at 6 pm on a Wednesday night, the parking lot empty and restaurant quiet. I asked "are you open?" And they said yes and seated me right away. Being the only one in the restaurant, I got a feel for the atmosphere. It was like being in Peru, with the incense and decor. It was very homey, with a bench and only 3 other tables. So when it got full, it was a bit warm and loud. My friend joined and we ordered some drinks, I had the marayuca which was delicious. The food: Ceviche clasico: 10/10. This ceviche was phenomenal. The fish was so fresh, the corn and sweet potatoes were delicious and all together it was just a bowl of deliciousness. Pollo a la brasa (1/4 breast): 9/10. WOW. What a huge portion of chicken! Even then, it was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. Seasoned very well. It was paired with some delicious potatoes, salad and 2 sauces. My friend had the arroz norteño and thoroughly enjoyed it. Service was attentive and friendly. The patio looked very nice as well. I went to meet up with a friend for happy hour on a Thursday night, and let me tell you, this place is a hidden gem. First off, the decor inside is beautiful and colorful, and the patio has a lot of table space as well as misters for the hotter days outside. We sat inside since it was one of those humid days and also we both have a tendency to get eaten up by all the mosquitos. I can only attest to the Happy Hour since we didn't end up ordering anything else. The portions for our Happy hour items were Very substantial, so much so that I felt full the next morning. We ordered the quarter chicken and the calamari. My favorite part of the calamari and chicken is this yellow peruvian sauce that you eat the chicken and calamari. The salad that comes with the chicken is refreshing and the drinks are creative but more on the smaller side. I'd definetly come back and try out some of the menu items, maybe also enjoy the patio in the future as the weather cools down. read more

I had so many high hopes for this place but I was immediately disappointed. 1. The music... if you're going to have a live pan flute player you should either have them play with no speaker. If you're going to use a speaker have it elevated so it's not ridiculously loud. After a small moment of much needed silence where we could actually listen to each other talk you had a DJ play with 4 speakers all pointed at people's tables and the speakers were blown out. Again, if you're going to have a DJ have the speakers elevated above people's heads so it's not obnoxiously loud and have the DJ bring speakers that aren't blown out. 2. The food was delicious but I had a lot of problems with it. Yucca fries should not be $7. The pulpo anticuchero was good but I literally only got TWO pieces of octopus and 5 pieces of Yucca all for $25???? Nah lol it was good not worth $25. The serving size should've been an appetizer around $12-$15 with at least one more piece of octopus. 3. The cocktails were priced around $14. They were good but not worth $14. The biggest problem I had is that we were seated and immediately asked the manager if we could be moved further away from the live music as it was too loud. We pointed to tables in the back and he informed us that they are only for parties of 8/10 people (we had six). We understood this but the entire time we were there the tables for 8/10 people were completely empty. The manager knew we were uncomfortable and could've moved us to one of the free 3 tables in the back. Llama Kid does not take reservations so why not allow us to sit there? There was a line but obviously no one in line had a party of more than 7 people. Our experience would have been SO MUCH better if the environment wasn't so loud. Y'all need to figure out what you want Llama Kid to be. Is it restaurant? Is it a club? Also please be consistent on your dog policy. I called and was told you were not dog friendly. There were multiple parties with dogs on your patio. Such a shame. We won't be going back due to the environment created by Llama kid. read more

Very good! Llama Kid has a vibrant outdoor patio and a compact indoor area. Even with the killer heat, most patrons opted to dine outside on the picnic benches. I haven't seen chicha morada on a menu since visiting Peru. Llama Kid's version was so refreshing and fruit forward -- delicious! This is definitely high-end Peruvian food with beautiful plating and execution. I loved the lomo saltado and Nikkei ceviche. A true testament to how good Llama Queen is: wanting your dinner leftovers at 9am the next day. Been looking for a Peruvian place in Austin and it's safe to say we found one! This place was incredible. The ceviche was my favorite - I'm new to ceviche generally so was a little hesitant about there being sweet potato in the classico, that sounded strange to me at first, but safe to say it was one of the most unique and delicious combinations I've ever tried. Can't forget about the main courses - I got the Arroz Chaufa which was amazing, I got aji amarillo sauce on the side which I loved. My friend got the Lomo Saltado which was so good we were inspired to try to remake it ourselves this weekend ;) Finished up with 3 leches which is my favorite dessert of all time, never had it with blueberries before but LOVED it. Llama Kid just a perfect shaded outdoor vibe on a good weather day with a nice breeze feasting on tart ceviches and sipping on Pisco Sours. On the evening we went, there was an amazing one-man band adding to the ambience, and we really just felt transported like we were on vacation. I came with a friend and we were able to be seated right away but we had just beat the dinner rush. At $14 each, the cocktails add up quickly so I only got the Maracuya Sour this time because I love passionfruit. and it tasted great and added to the tropical vacation vibes. To share, we did the Cebiche Clasico and it was very traditional, perfectly tart and loved all the vegetables it came with. Next time, I really want to try the Mixto and Nikkei Cebiches. I had the half chicken, and it was delicious. The aji sauce was amazing, I could have it on anything. The half size was definitely enough food for me to take home for another meal. Though getting a full is a good discount if you're sharing with a big group. I was assured that they would and paid by phone, but my friends confirmed that nothing was ever brought out. After eight calls over the span of a week and a half, and leaving requests to speak to a manager that I was assured would return my call, my request was ignored. I hated to have to take things up with my credit card company to get my money back, but I did because I could not get a response from the establishment. I don't think there's any restaurant like Llama Kid in Austin right now, and it's worth going for that reason alone. The patio was also really cute.
