The food was so fresh. I really enjoyed the taco salad, it had a lot of flavor and the portions were nice and large. I'm not vegan and usually am not a huge fan of vegan meat substitutes but their vegan taco meat in the shell was really delicious and impressive. I think the chicken sandwich may have been a bit overhyped on social media and wasn't "life changing" for me, so I may try another one of the sandwiches next time - but it was still good and definitely had a solid amount of chicken. Wow I really loved this lunch spot in downtown Austin! First of all, free parking for 2 hours in downtown is amazing. So quick and easy to get in and out. We visited for a lunch meeting a few months ago and browsed the menu before ordering at the front. One thing to note is that they do not have wifi. We used a hotspot and could still work, but we thought this lunch cafe would have wifi too. They had free samples of brownies at the register, and now I'll have to add a baked good on my next visit. :) I got the SASHIMI TUNA & AVOCADO BOWL:Raw sushi grade ahi tuna, sesame ponzu, avocado, pickled daikon, jicama, mandarin segments, sesame cucumbers, napa cabbage, ginger-scallion sauce, sliced radish, Sprouts Alive radish sprouts, toasted sesame seeds for $25.00. It was absolutely delicious! Fresh, crunchy, and loved the sesame ponzu. I can't wait to order this again. Drinks are self serve and they have fountain drinks in the back. Ordered a quick breakfast delivery from this location through UberEats while staying at a nearby hotel! I picked Local Foods because they had a very customizable coffee menu (something that's pretty rare for takeout/delivery orders). I paid extra to add a specialty milk and syrup to my cold brew, and also ordered some of their biscuits with butter and jam. My order was delivered in less than 20 minutes, and on a Sunday morning no less! The biscuits were delicious and flaky - especially when paired with their compound butter. Three came in my order, which seemed like a great deal for the price. My coffee however, was just plain cold brew, despite the customizations I selected while ordering. This wasn't the end of the world, but I wish I hadn't paid extra for add-ons I didn't receive. The rest of their menu sounded tasty - and I'd love to check out more of their offerings in-person the next time I'm in ATX! read more

Firstly, the cashier was so sweet and helpful in giving me reccs and he was 100% right - ordered the Borracho sandwhich with a side of the posole soup. Both excellent and delicious although pretty pricey. My friend ordered the brunch chicken posole as her entree and got it with the egg and avo and enjoyed it as well. I was excited to try Local Foods after hearing its origin stems from Houston. Local Foods is a sandwich shop that offers a healthier and more convenient option to dine. My partner and I split two sandwiches, the Truffled Egg Salad Sandwich & the Gulf Seafood Po Boy. The Truffled Egg Salad Sandwich used a pretzel bun, and I loved how tangy, salty, and light the egg salad was. However, I found the bun too dense for my liking. The Gulf Seafood Po Boy, however, was disappointing--it had a strong fishy taste that didn't appeal to me, despite my love for seafood. The sourdough bun it came with was better than the pretzel bun. All sandwiches come with a choice of two sides or a cup of the daily soup. Note: the pickled ingredients in the food items: (ie: the red onions in the Po Bo & and the dill in our Red Potato Salad) weren't too our liking and we felt they tasted too sour. The sandwich was probably among the best chicken sandwiches I've had! I also absolutely loved the pretzel bun. The pozole was also tasty, though I'd probably be tempted to try a different one next time. We also ordered a borracha beef sandwich which comes on Ciabatta bread. It was good, but incredibly spicy. I preferred the chicken sandwich. The food is all quite pricey for what you get. You're spending at least $20 for lunch. Girl on the register had to get a superior to come solve a problem and the lady talked down to her, so that could be a reason for the hostile vibes everyone was putting off. Overall: Local Foods is one of my favorite healthy restaurants in Austin! They offer a great menu that includes plenty of yummy drinks and delicious dishes. This is not the typical restaurant where you have a dedicated waiter, instead, you order at the counter, they bring you your food, and leave you to it. What I Get: - Kids Crunchy Chicken Sandwich: This sandwich is BOMB! I love it. I get the kids size because even that is too much for me. The pretzel bun never disappoints. The chips on the sandwich always give me a wonderful surprise. The chicken is always juicy. I love it!! I have had the regular sandwich and it's just as good. The kid's chicken sandwich just doesn't include the cucumbers and tomatoes. - Mediterranean Bowl: This bowl is cool. I just wish the seasoning was applied more evenly to the chips since some had a lot of seasoning but many chips had no seasoning. The chocolate cookie was very yummy! We have loved eating at local foods for many years, since the first time we ate there in Houston. We were so excited that they were opening up in Austin. Unfortunately, our last few experiences have been disappointing. The food is heavily salted, most notably, the egg salad, and the seasonal lemongrass soup, two of our favorites. I have a lot of respect for this place. I was visiting Austin for a business trip in this became my go to dinner spot. I ate here three nights in a row because the food was fresh, local, and accommodated my point based preferences. It wasn't a restaurant that hid it vegetarian and being options in the side dishes it wasn't that kind of place where you had to ask them to modify the menu to make you something that worked. They had a lot of choice choices in each of them was equally as good. The thing that stood out most for me, however, was the vegan broccoli and cheddar soup. I haven't had broccoli and cheddar soup for well over a decade and this vegan version tasted like the real thing. It was so good. The Sammy, the taco bowl, the vegan bun meat, were all a hit. The vegan carrot cake muffin for breakfast was insanely good. The last night I was visiting the chef happened to be in the dining room and we got to talking. I could tell he really cared about what he was serving because he also was plant based. It was a really nice feeling that he cared enough to check in and see how I was enjoying the meal. Dogs (not service animals) inside in violation of both state and local Austin health code. Management doesn't care, says it's fine. There is a lovely patio with an entrance that doesn't require entering the restaurant, it's a wonderful and legal place for dogs to be. Sadly, it's not where I've seen our furry friends. I never encountered this in a single Houston Local Foods. Yet I've seen it three times in the Austin location in the last two months. The food is fine, but with dogs inside where food is being prepared I can't be sure other basic health and safety rules are being followed. It's required to wash hands before food preparation, but maybe the owner thinks that one is fine to ignore, too? read more
