I've never been here before but the owner donated to a silent auction at a local high school (lots of brownie points right there) and I won it. My family and I got medium scoops which equals to 3 flavors per cup and one milkshake. Cookie Monster milk shake = yum. Finished the whole thing. Oh dear. This was actually probably one of the best ice cream places! I had the strawberry and Cookie Monster. The strawberry icecream was very fresh tasting with frozen strawberry bits inside and the Cookie Monster had chunks of cookie dough and Oreo/chocolate cookie. I liked that they had a good balance of milk based and sorbet/"ice" flavors. I asked what the most popular flavor was and the worker said the Cookie Monster, which has a mix of Oreo and chocolate chip in vanilla ice cream. I didn't really care for it much, but if you like your sweets this will be your go to. Along with that, I tried the horchata and cookie dough. The horchata was my favoriteeeee. It was icy and had a good balance of cinnamon. The cookie dough had a decent amount of chunks in there mixed in vanilla ice cream. I got all this in a waffle bowl, which was my favorite part of the whole thing. The waffle was crispy and light and only costed $1! My order came out to be a little less than $9, which is cheaper than most artisanal ice cream shops. I recommend the pineapple ice, pretty refreshing on a sunny day. I had three different flavors of the Italian ice (you get three scoops) and pineapple was my favorite. I've had my fair share of coffee ice cream, but Local Ice has the BEST coffee ice cream I've EVER had! Josh's Java is creamy, rich, and just delicious! Checked this place out while visiting The Grove with some friends. It wasn't the best ice cream place I've been to, nor was it the worst. I tried some of their dairy-free ice creams and a lot of them came off with a really weird after-taste. The salted caramel flavor was also EXTREMELY salty (coming from somebody who always asks for extra salt), it definitely did not taste enjoyable. Ultimately I settled with getting a scoop of matcha and rocky road to play it safe. (additional 50 cents for a waffle cone). The matcha wasn't anything special, I feel like I've had better at other places, but I think they did a really good job with the rocky road! I went 7/15 with my husband and we got strawberry, bananas foster and peanut butter. The branding, signage and beautiful marble countertop led me to believe this was some artisan-level ice cream. Unfortunately, that was not the case. The strawberries used in the ice cream were neither ripe nor sweet. And ice crystals had formed on top, giving the scoop a chunky, unpleasant mouthfeel. I really like the Grove, as well as local ice. The women at the counter are very friendly and ask you to sample their various organic ice creams. My favorite so far is the vegan coconut ice-cream. But they have a lot of other tasty sorts. It`s hard to decide. I also like the ambience at the Farmer`s market and it`s nice to have a seat here and relax for a while, even if it is crowded most of the time. He and I split off from my wife and her mom as they shopped for tchotchkes in the Farmer's Market and we headed toward the white marble counter of Local Ice. They have a tiny menu with a ton of stuff on it, but we were on a mission for a simple scoop. My father in-law got a scoop of their seasonal pumpkin ice cream in a cup, and I went for the seasonal black raspberry in a cup. Both were simple (no add-ins, swirls, or anything) and both were delicious. Cold, creamy, and flavorful. A small detail I particularly liked was their spoons - they're some kind of biodegradable plastic, and they worked really well. I can't stand the wooden spoons that are becoming popular these days. There are so many premium ice cream places popping up that I have grown a bit cynical, and I don't think I would have gone out of my way to try this place for the first time if I were not already in the Farmer's Market with my daughter when she was feeling the need for a treat. So I have her to thank for helping me discover that this unpretentious little place makes what I think is simply the best ice cream around. Though I often opt for unusual flavors, my daughter always goes for the basics, so it was thanks to her that I first got to try Local Ice's chocolate and their vanilla. The vanilla was simply so rich with flavor that it changed the way I think about vanilla. Every time I go to Local Ice now, I want to get the vanilla, though temptation usually leads me to go for something more decadent. Their Cookie Monster flavor is the best of the cookies-in-ice-cream genre; somehow all of the cookie and fudge flavors stand out without become an overly sweet muddle. And if you happen to go by when they have the Coconut Caramel, get some before it runs out. It's amazing. Oh, and their ices are ridiculously good too. I always opt for ice cream, but both my daughter and my wife like Italian Ice. The chocolate ice is way more flavorful than an ice has a right to be, and the raspberry is also incredible. read more
