Fantastic meal from start to finish. My friend and I were drawn in by the festive atmosphere as we parked in front of the restaurant and headed to a nearby bar to enjoy cocktails. We almost didn't try this place because it looked like there was a private party going on in the courtyard. Fortunately, the hostess invited us in and found us a table in the (much quieter!) interior dining room, where we were able to enjoy each other's company... as well as some of the most amazing food in Danville. I started with the peach frisee salad with goat cheese, caramelized walnuts and sweet juicy peaches drizzled with a balsamic glaze. My friend ordered the caprese salad with plump juicy tomatoes, creamy burrata cheese and fresh basil drizzled with extra virgin olive oil. Two very simple dishes, but executed beautifully. All of the produce in our salads was so conspicuously fresh and so flavorful. Lovely start to the meal. For the main course, I enjoyed the Panzarotti Ravello: half moon pasta stuffed with ricotta and spinach and served in butter sage sauce. Absolutely fantastic dish... and surprisingly light. My friend ordered the Carbonara and DEVOURED it. I don't eat pork, but he was shared a pork-free forkful with me and... wow. I haven't eaten pork in almost 25 years and this dish almost ALMOST made me miss it. The smoke flavor from the pancetta really made this dish shine. Four simple ingredients brought together to make a perfectly executed dish. The beauty of this place is that they assemble simple but beautifully and deliciously assembled dishes. To start with, this was supposed to be a special Mother's Day celebration for me and my teen daughter, but the waiter looked gruff and unwelcoming and never, ever, ever wished me Happy Mother's Day. On top of it, he barely came to our table, didn't refill our glasses with water at all, and usually was nowhere to be found. We ordered only three dishes to share between us two and he failed to bring the third dish. When we asked him, he started arguing with us that we had never ordered it! Why did he have to argue? It's better for the restaurant if we ask for more! Finally he agreed to bring the third dish to us. Then he never was found for our desert... The food was very bland, not authentic and definitely overpriced for what was offered. No olive oil with some bread either that usually are offered at nice Italian restaurants. It's true that waiters spoke Italian, they are mostly Southern Italians, covered in tattoos and quite rough, speaking in the Southern Italian dialect between themselves, but not noticing the guests. Another couple with two young kids sitting next to us were waiting for a waiter's attention for a long time, then gave up and left! I studied Italian and usually love Italian food and Italians. Really poor customer service and food was bland. We went there on a late Sunday afternoon and it wasn't busy at all. Yet the pasta was cold, the server didn't ask for the choice of side on the lunch special panini and sarcastically blamed us for not mentioning when it arrived with a side we couldn't eat. This review is for our uber eats order. I have eaten here several times in person before covid and have also gotten togo orders. Something has changed. Today I ordered my usual dish, the strozzapreti pasta and it was 1/3rd the size that it used to be. I am writing this review as I am hoping management will see it and make changes to go back to the larger portion size. I paid $40 for 1/3rd of the meal and I'm still hungry when I used to be full. I decided to make a reservation after a good friend's recommendation and I can tell why she told me to come here; no regrets at all. My husband and my son were very pleased. Pizza was exceptional. True Naples style wood fired. On a par with Doppio Zero in Concord. Doppio a few dollars cheaper. The Locanda website could be more complete. No wine or cocktail list at all. Seems to be slapped together with little real information. Cute inside with white table cloths which was impressive. Not sure if patio dining is pet friendly. Checked the Lafayette location and that place does not do wood fired. If not familiar with Danville use GPS since the restaurant is hidden in the open. The pizza is great. read more

Though when I cook, I'm apt to use basil, oregano, & lots & lots of herbs, so this was more plain for my palate...I admit I added salt! Seafood pasta is usually my go-to dish of choice when going out for a nice Italian meal and this one was on the 'just Ok' barometer of those I've had. Not bad, but not great. It was a pleasant dining experience eating lunch outdoors, being served by super Italian waiters who were attentive & kind - you're transported to Italy while you are here. Everyone speaking Italian. I would come back here again with my friend and order something else next time, like the lasagna or a pizza. So give this place a shot! Very cute small restaurant with patio dining. The service was excellent and the host also checks in with you to make sure you are enjoying your dining experience. We had the meatball appetizer which was served in a small dish covered in marinara and Parmesan cheese with 2 pieces of toast. It was very tasty, fresh tomato marinara was delish. Secondi- the salmon entree with potatoes and sautéed cabbage tomato ragu. Although tasty the salmon was over cooked, the cabbage was the best on the plate imo. We had the Francesco, half margherita calzone stuffed with ricotta, mozzarella, marinara and ham. This was steamy melted richness! They gave a wood fired oven and the crust is delicious. I would definitely stick with the pizzas here. I had a limoncello Prosecco cocktail that was refreshing and yummy. Great date spot, but bring your wallet bc it will be pricey with drinks after all it's yuppie Danville. ***BEST TIP It would be better to bring your own wine and pay the corkage fee $20. Great collection of menu items, including the Fritto Misto (plentiful and tasty) and a seafood pasta....the two things I enjoyed. The maitre de suggested a Aglianico from the Naples area not on the menu, and it was fabulous. Then I find out they have locations in Pleasanton and Livermore!! read more

Well where can I start, this restaurant has such a little Italy feel, once you arrive it's primarily street parking and I was lucky enough to find one in front. You'll view the outdoor seating right away once you arrive as well. Once you walk into the restaurant from the side you'll hear ambient music playing outdoors with the warm sun against your skin (at least the day I went) and umbrellas to cover you as each table was protected from the sun. I arrived around 7PM without a reservation and was seated right away. I was also greeted by such a welcoming warm hello and choose to sit at the patio due to the little puppy we had. Once we sat Rosario came over to us and told us about their amazing specials of the day and I might say are delicious!! Soon after bread with oil and balsamic oil came out, Amazing!! My daughter choose to get a cheese pizza and I choose the spaghetti carbonara pasta we also got one of the specials, zucchini some type of appetizer with cheese inside as well. I wish I could remember the name but I would highly recommend it. I also got a few alcoholic beverages which were all so sweet but dangerous. Once the sun started to set they set the umbrellas down and it was beautiful to see more of the outdoor area. I can't say enough about how much I loved the decor the tables and seats and all as well. The dessert was amazing as well!! My daughter choose the donuts and the finally panna cotta, they were both amazing!! The panna cotta had cherry topping and it went to well with the panna cotta. The donuts were drizzled with white sugar and chocolate syrup, a bit more on the sweet side for me but amazing. Before we left I ordered another one of those specials which had the zucchini and cheese in the center which was forgotten and Rosario made sure we got it prior to our departure. By far my experience here was superb. One only downfall is there is only one available restroom for each sex. But other then that, I plan to come back maybe next time without my daughter. Didn't care for the pesto on my caprese salad and the tomatoes tasted chilled/refrigerated like they had been close to frozen. Pizza was good - only had a slice but it was perfect. Another wonderful experience tonight celebrating two birthdays! My family and our friends enjoyed the food. The service was again friendly and attentive for our large group of 12. Some standout dishes were the lobster fettuccine and the sea bass special. The delicate sea bass was perfectly cooked in a light white wine sauce. The gigantic 16 oz bone in ribeye was a favorite. Found this quaint gem of a restaurant on Yelp. Made reservations through Yelp as well. Easy peasy. Once arrived at noon, we were seated very quickly. After a few minutes to chat with my lunchmate, we had our orders taken. The service here is excellent - multiple check-in's by the staff and management to ensure we were good on our bread, drinks and ultimately lunch. Everyone is very friendly. My food was excellent. I had the linguini and shellfish. The portion was large (I thought it was going to be small), and very very tasty. My friend had one of the pizzas, and she said it was really good as well. My only issue is parking, which is really a Danville issue, not the restaurant's. Downtown Danville gets crowded at lunch time, and I had to park three blocks away. It's certainly not a deal-breaker, but it is something to keep in mind. read more

We had a wonderful dinner here last night! Restaurant is adorable and has outside seating options which unfortunately was full so we sat inside. We started with the Sophia pizza which was really tasty with Burata cheese on it. I had the salmon on vegetables which also came with a potato croquet. Salmon was done perfectly and had an assortment of yummy vegetables underneath it. Others had the veal and one of the specials which was eggplant. We were all happy with our food choices. We had the doughnuts with Nutella to share for dessert. Nice local place definitely worth trying if you have not been. Already thinking about what to try next time. read more

We loved this place pre-covid but have been back a few times and their food quality has gone way down. We went last night and it was packed. The waiter was nice enough but seemed distracted by a larger party he was serving nearby. I ordered a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and the wine tasted like it was an open old bottle. It was undrinkable. We asked for bread and received 4 little pieces on a big plate with a to-go container of olive/vinegar. I ordered the Shrimp/Lobster Ravioli. It tasted like it was sitting out or cooked way earlier and just heated up. My boyfriend ended up eating it and got sick later that night. Not sure if it was the shrimp or the lobster. He ordered the steak and said he really liked that so I guess that was the only good part of our experience. Not going back here again. read more

Not sure what everyone raves about. The best part about this place is the friendly and attentive staff. We ordered a margarita pizza and it was thin, rubbery and soggy (yes, all of these things at the same time), which should be impossible given the temperature of their oven. We also ordered the lobster cioppino, which was not delicious. It was all of the things you don't want in a cioppino -- a few pieces of sad fish, overpowered by lobster flavor, no evidence of saffron or even a hint of flavor in the tomato base (other than what I'll refer to as 'lobster brine flavor'), with sand in the mussels. It's an absolute crime to charge $55 for a dish that has sand in the shellfish. Didn't even eat half of it, and didn't ask to take it with us. The Neapolitan Pizza is simply perfect, it comes warm right out of the oven and the gooey buffalo mozzarella is a real treat. The pasta and salad are good too but the pizza is the star of the show. Skip the bread and wait for the pizza it comes out really quick. The service is Italian, full of smiles, banter and friendly conversation. The decor dominated by colorful mosaic is charming both indoors and outdoors. It's beautiful and chic yet relaxed and welcoming. The pricing is very fair, yet another point in its favor. This is probably my go-to Italian spot in the suburban east bay. They have a good selection of dishes on the menu - some of my favorites are the fritto misto, eggplant parmigiana and gnocchi tartufo. They also used to have an amazing linguine vongole which is unfortunately no longer on the menu (had the bestttt blistered tomatoes in it). They have a really large outdoor area which is great for summer time / warmer days and feels more COVID safe than other places in these times! read more

Spent $20 on a Caprese salad. Got three tomatoes over some sad arugula with the smallest dollop of runny mozzarella I've ever seen. If you're looking for $3 of value in a $20 salad, I highly recommend you try this. read more
