We stopped by Lola Coffee at 40th Street and Indian School this week and immediately understood why it feels like such a neighborhood favorite. The baristas seemed to know almost everyone who walked through the door, greeting customers by name and catching up with them like old friends. As first-time visitors, we were welcomed just as warmly. For drinks, we ordered a medium vanilla cappuccino and a caramel latte. The cappuccino packs a punch with four shots of espresso, but somehow manages to be both bold and incredibly smooth at the same time. The caramel latte was equally delicious and nicely balanced without being overly sweet. While Lola offers a variety of hot breakfast options, we decided to stick with pastries. The cheese danish was flaky with just the right amount of sweet. The blueberry scone was moist, flavorful, and loaded with blueberry goodness. Between the friendly atmosphere, excellent coffee, and tasty pastries, it's easy to see why locals keep coming back. Tried this spot out in person. Super busy, long line took about 10 minutes to get to me on a Saturday morning. Once I placed my order, it was ready pretty quickly. We stopped by Lola to meet up with our kids before a lunch reservation nearby. We've had their coffee before, but this was our first time at their Arcadia location. It was pretty busy, so we grabbed a spot on the couch while we waited. While waiting we tried checking their online menu, but it only had a few items listed--so not super helpful. I ended up just having to go to the counter to see the menu and placed my order. We all just got coffee since we were having lunch soon. Beware of the parking situation due to limited area. It's located between a brewery and a busy restaurant. We had to roam the lot a bit to get a spot. This coffee spot had plenty of tables and very open. I got a caramel latte. It was great! Next time I'd like to tone down the syrup to only 1 pump. Went in this cute little shop while waiting to be seated for brunch next door. It was busy, but we still got helped rather quickly. We couldn't decide but knew we wanted iced coffee with some kind of caramel but not a caramel latte exactly. The barista recommended an iced coffee with caramel and cinnamon and it was AMAZING! It wasn't too sweet and you could still actually taste the coffee, which I love because a lot of drinks are mostly sugar these days. Let me preface this with the fact that I don't ever leave reviews, because I know as someone who works in customer service, how out of pocket some reviews can be. Not representative of the true culture. I have also been a barista for several years... However, I am giving a three stars solely because of management, not the employees. Sarah is a GEM, and she has incredible customer service. She's been there the whole time we've been coming, but turnover of other employees seems pretty steady. Whoever the manager is (I'm assuming as she "runs the show" when she's there) with the long curly redish hair, is rude. The flow is always more chaotic and disorganized when she is there. I asked to have my shots re-pulled as I had watched them sit on the bar for way too long. The barista on the bar was more than happy to re-pull them for me until she turned to the manager to tell her my request. The manager then looked at me (not sure if she knew I was the one asking) while saying to the employee, "those shots are fine we are not re-pulling them." I'd expect that crappy service at a big coffee chain, but not a mom & pop coffee shop. It was really disheartening and rude. I work in customer service, and no the customer is not always right, but to be that brazen about denying a customers request is pretty telling of the management style and culture there. read more

Came into Lola Coffee this morning to catch up on some reading and enjoy some wonderful coffee/food. The service was great and fast. I ordered the Cafe Blanco which is like a white chocolate mocha, and my absolute favorite on the menu! To eat I had their egg, cheddar, and ham croissant that was delicious. The croissant was buttery and the egg, ham, and cheese had great flavor. The parking can be a little difficult especially during peak times, however there is plenty of seating inside and has a very cozy vibe perfect for working, reading, or grabbing a coffee with a friend. read more

I've been to the glendale location of Lola a couple times since it is by my gym, but this was my first time at this one! It is spacious and there is parking in the back, it took me a second to figure out where it was but not too hard to find. It was busy in that lots of people were there but no line and no wait! I got an iced coffee with oat milk and vanilla. Barista got my drink out right away and was nice! My coffee was good, strong and just a hint of vanilla. Would love to come back and try something new next time! I will have to check out the downtown Phoenix location as well! read more

The ambiance at Lola's is very open and inviting. There will usually be 5-15 students there studying. The staff has always been pleasant and willing to help and give advice. Their vanilla latte is very good not too sweet and you get the strong espresso taste which is what I prefer in my coffee. I highly recommend their espresso whip cream as well. I decided to try Lola Coffee as it had been recommended to me by a self-proclaimed coffee aficionado and I was in the area. I had read the reviews recommending the Matador and Cafe Blanco, however, I wanted something different. I asked for a recommendation by the barista and she was nice enough and not too outwardly judgy at my novice questions. We came up with a triple shot of espresso, almond milk, and Irish cream which translates to Triple Almond Irish Latte for $5.97. It was strong, as promised, however, not quite as sweet/not the strong/sweet ratio I'd hoped for. It was a good cup of coffee, just not my personal favorite. I did notice there were espresso grounds on the bottom of my cup when I was checking how many ounces it was. Overall if I'm in the area again I may come back and try the Cafe Blanco. read more
