Just did a takeout order last night and I am impressed, to say the least! 20 minute before closing the place still had a good crowd outside and inside, not super busy but happening. I was enticed by the rice wraps I saw in photos so I had to see for myself. I ordered the 5 meat sampler and doubled up on chicken, passed on tofu and then also got the sauteed greens (broccolini and onion) the side salad as well as a smoked chicken rice wrap. All that plus a drink for $28 bucks with tax. Not too bad! My server was cool. he knew the menu well, knew all the sauces and even made good suggestions for what to pick. Steven was his name I think. I got my food pretty fast, like 5 minutes fast! These guys are good! I got home, sat on my porch and as the image shows, had a feast of unique flavors ahead of me. The 5 meat sampler over jasmine rice with veggies was awesome! Each meat its own moist, flavorful punch of meaty goodness with just enough smokiness. Great portion too. The sauteed greens I piled on the 5 meat sampler and loved it! Not drenched in oil or butter, just sauteed enough to be delicious in their own right. The chicken rice wrap was seriously something new for me and I love it! I do not do flour or wheat so a rice wrap burrito was a welcome experience for me! Felt the same way but without the carby stooper I always get from eating such floury items. Its full of chicken, mixed greens, jasmine rice and hit with their house lime pesto sauce, this thing works well for me! My order was enough for 2 hungry adults but as many know I eat as 2 hungry adults so this was filling and pretty darn sound on the nutrition side also, win-win there. Today was my first time eating here. Curbside pick-up. I cant believe I've been missing out this entire time!!! I had the spicy tofu wrap (w/ fried rice and the lemongrass basil) and a side of spicy eggplant, largely influenced by all of the ratings for this meal on Yelp. I was NOT disappointed. First of all, the portion size is huge. I have a whole a$$ dinner just from my lunch order. The food was flavorful, the eggplant texture was cooked to almost perfection. Love this little homey restaurant! I love how the bathroom had a bathtub in it. The service was wonderful- Lona herself came out to talk to us and serve us along with the amazing cashiers and servers. As for the food: Award winning Dumplings were deliciously pan fried (we tried steak and mushroom) Plate with chicken, steak, tofu and pork was large and big enough to feed 2 people! We ordered it with fried rice and noodles and side of veggies (bok choy). It was our first time at the restaurant so they let us try all 5 sauces! My favorite was the peanut sauce. The soup of the day was beef noodle soup! Also a warm and comforting meal in the cold winter days. It took me a couple of times to appreciate the offerings but now I take new people all the time and get them hooked. FYI, if it's spicy they mean it so proceed with caution. Also, if you eat beef...get the brisket rice paper wrap with jasmine rice. My preferred way to order is with the spicy sauce and a side of lona q so I can have the best of both worlds. Whatever you do...order the wrap. It's unique, light, flavorful, and fresh. Period. If you order that I guarantee you'll be back. It can get busy so I prefer to take to go. Lona's is just fantastic. For an appetizer, I usually get their steak and mushroom potstickers. The plain mushroom ones are also nice but with a bit less flavor than the meat ones. With their entrees, there's a big variety of proteins and sides for all different taste buds. I prefer the turkey in the rice paper wrap and I switch up the fillers from salad to rice, depending on how healthy I'm being. The best side, hands down, is the eggplant. It's spicy, but heavenly and chalk full of flavor. There are many sauces to choose from and I recommend getting a few on the side (it's worth the extra $) so you can enjoy the flavor bomb that this place produces. read more

Really great and unique place. It was a bit difficult to find Lona's it is located in a primarily residential neighborhood, so if you are thinking that you are lost, you're probably close. This is a counter service place, you order at the counter, they give you a number and then bring your food to your table. The man taking my order was super helpful. I asked him for an overview of the concept and he was happy to share and help me pick some items to try they are known for their rice paper wraps. I ended up getting the Big Thai Chicken Wrap with the stir-fried glass noodles as a side and a bourbon punch. I appreciated that all the wraps come with a selection of a side, salad, or drink as it allowed me to taste something in addition to my wrap. The wrap and punch were fantastic. The wrap was full of all sorts of things, chicken, Thai spices, lettuce, fried rice and noodles. The bourbon punch was super balanced, not too sweet or too boozy, highly recommend. My side f the stir-fired glass noodles was just okay, I really preferred the side my friend ordered which was the Lime-Ginger Peanut salad. Only one snafu, I went to the counter to grab silverware and I thought, I'd like my food to be a bit more spicy. I asked a different gentlemen behind the counter if I could have one of the chili spice sauces I could see. He handed it to me but under his breath mumbled annoyed, they usually charge $0.55 for these and walked off. Okay, charge me then.... But otherwise good service and tasty food! read more

Excellent!! Lona's Lil Eats is for sure becoming a regular. Friday was our first time, the host graciously guided us through the menu and made a couple suggestions. I had a rice wrapper with the most delicious smoked brisket, fresh veggies and fried rice. From other's posts I knew to order the eggplant for my side ... incredible. Portions are huge, so I enjoyed a special breakfast by adding an egg to the left overs. The owner, Lona, is very hands on. She checked on us multiple time to ensure everything was to our liking. Lona's eats are not necessarily little. A build your own spring roll offers an amazing opportunity to curate something different but ensure a full belly. My only complaint on the spring roll was the mess the back half of the roll created. The sauce can get a little sloppy and I don't like juices rolling down my wrists. The flavors are rich, delicious, and the meat well seasoned. The various appetizers are lovely and pair well with the main dish. The convenience factor is where Lona's shines. In and out quickly and always consistent in flavor. We use this spot as our go for picnics and take home dinners alike. In a bit of a random spot but easy to get in and out of, parking is never an issue. I do recommend this spot for any lovers of Asian cuisine. They seem to be doing something a bit different. I will certainly be back and look forward to trying everything on the menu. I will say, it can get a bit crowded at peek times so I recommend random hours for guaranteed quick service. I have been eating at Lonas since it was a food stand inside of Soulard Market. I was so excited when it moved to its own location! It's a great Asian fusion neighborhood spot with a casual feel. It's a small spot with a few outside tables, if you're dining at peak time, keep that in mind The spring rolls or build your own giant spring roll burrito is a must! I am a big fan of the chicken, the steak is a bit chewy for my taste, but I'm picky. I also recommend if you get the burritos as take out, get the sauce on the side as it can be too messy and soggy otherwise... We go to Lona's about once a week (sometimes more), this is our favorite restaurant in all of St. Louis!!! We live in west county too. We eat out a lot, but we mostly bring our friends to try Lona's. Also, she has been nominated by the James Beard organization twice. She told us when they came to give her this prestigious nomination, she never had heard of them. That's how good the food is as very few restaurants get this!! I always order the tofu plate with both stir fried rice and noodles and it comes with a side. I always get the ginger peanut slaw. All is excellent! It is always unique or prepared in their own special way, delicious and oh by the way, I get the Lona Q sauce. That is a sweet teriyaki that is gluten free. Spectacular every time!!! You will become addicted to this truly exciting Asian Fusion food that originally came from Laos. If I ever move away from St. Louis there are very few food places that I will miss. That doesn't meant that St. Louis lacks great food but it does mean that every once in a while something special comes along that morphs what we thought we could eat in St. Louis and Lona's is just that. Nestled away in the Tower Grove neighborhood this little corner restaurant is always busy. The front of house is manned by the same group of people every time we go there and their teamwork is impeccable, which is nice considering how busy they are. But the food is the star here and they do not disappoint. The specialty is giant rice paper burrito's and they are AMAZING. It's a seamless blend between Asian and Mexican that makes every meal here a treat. They offer several different types of burritos along with a make your own burrito option, but I always stick with the menu. All of their sides are Asian in nature and go well with the theme. And for those of us that enjoy a good beer, they have rotating taps that are dominated by local fare with a few out of state choices. Hospitality means everything to me. I went into Lona's a couple days ago for lunch. I got my typical order: a Big Thai Chicken wrap. Although to me it seems to be a pretty simple order, it was taking a long time and I noticed that other people who had definitely ordered after me getting their food. I approached the counter and asked about my order and they realized they had lost the ticket. Honestly, I felt too hungry to express being frustrated about it. I just wanted my food and then to get going. After I brought it to their attention, my order came out pretty fast, but it had been about a half hour since I had ordered before I was eating. Of course the food was delicious, as always, but when the manager came to bus my tray, he told me that he voided my ticket and that the food took way to long today. When businesses own their mistake and take care of you by sacrificing the immediate sale, to keep folks in love with your business long- term... I can't help but think that they just get hospitality.
