We ordered roasted beets, wood grilled broccoli, butternut fries to start and had spice roasted cauliflower, grilled arctic char, roasted black bass, and roasted short ribs. We finished with the almond joy as dessert (I do recommend if you fancy an elevated almond joy in ice cream form). All the dishes were good. I went here for Valentine's Day - they had a fixed price menu ($140pp) and downstairs they had live jazz and complimentary champagne. It was a really nice vibe and the tables were far apart which is very uncommon in NYC!! The food was delicious (not pictured, the hummus & pita, fried cauliflower & fluke crudo- which they gave us as a freebie). The service was great. My only complaint was the to-go cookies. I went to this almost 10-year-old New American restaurant a while back with a few others, having passed by it numerous times as I used to go to Rasa, a Malaysian place just up the block. The inside was chic with the lighting slightly dark for photos, and the staff were friendly. I believe I had a glass of wine or perhaps a spritz, but I'm unsure. My appetizer was the Wood Grilled Broccoli Salad for $23, with orange, pistachios, and mint. The broccoli had a light char, a mildly smoky flavor, and a very mild sauce underneath. The bit of orange added citrus, and I liked the crunch from the pistachios. However, I think this would work a little better if the broccoli were cut into smaller pieces rather than one large stalk, as the textures would blend a bit better. Still, I liked it overall. If I recall correctly, another person had the Shaved Brussels Sprouts, and another had the Baked Ricotta, and both enjoyed their appetizers. That night, I decided not to have any meat or fish, unlike usual, and went with the Gemelli, a type of pasta. For $25, this was served with tomatoes, herbs, and lemon crumbs, which was a bit pricey for a plain pasta, but hey, it's the Village. Apparently, this pasta has been made with crab and chili before, which sounds a bit more substantial, but I'm presuming there would be a price difference if that were the case. The pasta was a bit past al dente for my liking, and it had a surprising amount of kick. It almost reminded me of an arrabbiata, though with tomato instead of the usual tomato sauce. Otherwise, the lemon crumbs added a unique and fun crunch, and overall, it was decent, but it felt a bit one-note, as the spice overpowered whatever other flavors there were. Another person had the same dish as me and wasn't a big fan due to its heat level. One of the other people had the $35 Skate "Fish & Chips," which came with three pretty big pieces of fish and a bunch of crunchy French fries, which were shared with a few others at the table. Another had one of their signature whole-wheat pizzas, the Grandma-Style, for $20, with tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil, which seemed like a decent portion for the price, and I would probably get that or a fancier pizza next time. This was a good neighborhood spot, and I can see why it's been around for as long as it as as the food is unique enough while remaining approachable. I wish I could give this place a 3.5, but since that rating doesn't exist, I'll bump it up a bit, as it is closer to a 4 than a 3. It's really rare that a yelp recommendation isn't enjoyable for me. I sincerely did not enjoy my food at Loring Place, and I really wanted to! First it was the lemonade that was awfully bitter. Even after the remake, it just wasn't good. Then I ordered cranberry juice and it just fell flat. The BEC calzone was recommended by my server but it was mid--it felt like the ingredients coming together were expected to sing on their own, but baby seasoning is a real thing for a real reason. The worst of it was the morning bun. Lord. There was this funky orange zest that lingered with every bite, just no. I was so turned off by the scent and texture that I sincerely suffered through eating it because my money doesn't grow on trees and I paid for it. Nicole has been wanting to try this place in Manhattan. We were game! We got there early because richard and I had been at the American natural history museum up on 82 street. Came here for brunch with a big group. The AC was not working so it was pretty hot inside, all the staff were visibly sweating which was not great. Additionally, a good amount of the drinks and food items, as well as all espresso drinks, were unavailable for some reason. I ordered the corn pizza, which was unique and tasted pretty good. I also tried some of the French toast, which had some good sauces but was a bit mushy. The restaurant is big a spacious which is nice, but was pretty dead when we went (noon on a Sunday). Had a great Father's Day brunch at Loring Place today with my wife and daughter! This is a very cool restaurant right in the heart of Greenwich Village. The place is beautiful inside and the service excellent! Started off with an Aperol Spritz and we shared the Baked Ricotta appetizer. The ricotta mixed with pesto and favs beans was outstanding on the toasted sourdough bread. For an entree, I had the Creamy Scrambled Eggs. They definitely were creamy as they were made with cheddar. Loring Place is a great spot with lots of vegetarian options which was so nice. The setting is nice inside and service is very good. I got the broccoli salad, asparagus "fries", and garlic mashed potatoes. All were really good. The asparagus fries were a unique dish and done well. The garlic mashed potatoes were super flavorful and went well with the other food. Mashed potatoes are sometimes bland at other places but this one was not at all. Broccoli salad also was unique and good. For dessert we got the vanilla ice cream sundae. It was so good and had lots of caramel sauce. Great brunch spot! We made reservations ahead on Resy. We got the tuna crudo and butternut fries. The fries were delicious - highly recommend!! You won't even know they're not real french fries. The tuna crudo was very flavorful but on the saltier side. For our entrees we got the grandma pizza and the grilled chicken paillard. The grilled chicken paillard is light and a great salad - flavorful dressing and very fresh. The pizza was pretty good as well. Note that portions are all the smaller side. All our food was for two people but I don't think it would be enough for anymore. Modern vibe, nice service! If you're looking for a nice brunch New American Place this is it. Update: Do not go here under any circumstances. I emailed the manager about the tipping "mistake" and he emailed me back a photoshopped / scratched out receipt of our tip. Absolutely ridiculous. I will be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. They added $10 to both my tip and my friend's tip (so $20 total) - we had already tipped 18% each on a split bill - so 18% total. Best case this was an innocent mixup on their part; worst case they got confused and thought we didn't tip enough and added the $10 themselves? Either way pretty egregious. Loring place feature delicious plant-forward cuisine (that's how I would describe it). While it is not vegan nor vegetarian, there are many vegan and vegetarian-friendly options, and the options that do have meat seem to be centered around vegetables. The service was great- waitress was knowledgeable about vegan options, and took care of me to ensure I was able to enjoy a variety of dishes. I really enjoyed their shaved Brussels sprouts salad (no cheese) & roasted cauliflower with fennel. Flavors were great, had a good mix of textures and presentation is pretty; the cauliflower was roasted perfectly. I also enjoyed their house made veggie burger with vegan mayo & avocado (yay vegan mayo!)- this is not a faux meat impossible/ beyond burger, and is actually made of plant ingredients. I don't know what exactly is in it but I believe a combination of grains, legumes and maybe mushrooms? The texture was a bit loose and didn't bind together, so quite messy to eat. This was served in a pita bread. Overall I still enjoyed it. For me, the star of the meal was the when they brought me the Almond Joy dessert which I was told is vegan- coconut sorbet with a chocolate shell, delicious candied orange & nuts. I wish I was not so full at that point because it was sooo good! Not too heavy since it was a sorbet instead of ice cream. The candied orange was a perfect compliment. I would come back for this dessert, and remember to save more room for it next time. Their drink menu is decent in variety (wine, beer, cocktails) and their cocktails are large! I got the Paloma and it was about double the size of a regular cocktail. Would love to see them just label what is Vegan on the menu, and also point out what can be veganized with modifications. Would be very useful while ordering. I think it would be also nice to have some sort of plant-based protein entree. I liked the vibe/ ambience of the restaurant- it has a modern charm. The atmosphere is warm, inviting, and feels like a place you want to visit, again and again. Another great visit to Loring Place for a family dinner! I want to express my appreciation for this excellent restaurant, perfect for any occasion, whether it's a family gathering or a business meeting. This time, we tried the chicory salad (a winter special), which was an amazing combination of bitter greens and sweet orange flavors. The broccoli salad featured tender grilled broccoli with radishes--an intriguing addition topped with a delightful dressing. The young beets salad was also very good. Additionally, we were treated to complimentary dishes from the chef, including rich hummus, an apple and celery root salad, and incredibly tasty butternut fries ( !) --yum! I would suggest to the restaurant offering a light pesto with a strong lemon influence or even a bernaise rather than the Thai offering as an alternative. After trying the sauce on a slice I had the rest plain and it still had sufficient yum factor going on. The brioche french toast was very good and I am here to say that the cranberry compote was unexpectedly perfect with it. If you order a side of bacon it is generous. Don't miss this place when you are in NYC They don't open until 11 on Sunday and we had reservations for 11. It gets crowded as time progresses so I highly recommend early time frame. The bright and airy atmosphere makes it inviting and a great place to meet with friends or get brunch. While the portions are small even for NYC, the food is delicious. I ordered the cheedar waffle eggs and loved the twist on the dish. A friend of mine ordered the baked eggs while another ordered the grandma style pan pizza and both stated how much they enjoyed their meals. While the service was friendly, they only showed up to take our first order and then refill our drinks whicu made it difficult to order more food or see a dessert menu. With a limited menu one would expect perfection on the creations on their list. While I will say that they did make things right, three attempts at serving my striped bass entree properly, and twice for the same dish for my wife, should be an embarrassment for this establishment. If I were the owner, I'd feel nothing less than ashamed at the kitchen's sub-standard effort. We were a party of about 10 which can be challenging to wait staff, but their somewhat spotty attention to the table was unacceptable. A guest should never have to go to a serving station to get his own plates; two requests for ice went unheeded, and beverage service was intermittent and slow. This was a really solid, healthy meal. For such simple dishes, I was impressed at the uniqueness of flavor. My favorite was the WOOD GRILLED BROCCOLI salad with orange, pistachios and mint. I also loved the ARCTIC CHAR sashimi with kohlrabi, mint and sesame-chili oil. The BABY GEM LETTUCES with radishes, chilies, sesame vinaigrette was light and nice, and the ROASTED BLACK BASS with sugar snap peas, preserved lemon and jalapeño-fennel vinaigrette was also very nice, if not a little light on the flavor.
