Sooo - i did a carryout order (because its cheaper to drink beer at home). I called in my order, showed up early - paid AND TIPPED. While i was waiting, i asked for a ToGo ice water. One of the staff went to get ToGo cups - but i never got my water :( Ordered: Chicken Tacos dinner (free 3" chicken bone) with old/unseasoned rice. The tacos were fried well, chicken was a little dry - but the crema made them tasty. The refried beans were the star. No guac w/order - as a SMALL side is an add'l $3.50!! Mole Verde Pork - it was "okay" as i forgot they add UNnecessary pumpkin seeds :( -they're HARD & add nothing to the flavor. Overall, meal was just OKAY. This restaurant was fabulous. The atmosphere was very nice, we sat on the patio which has a covering. The staff as well as the owner was very attentive and helped us with recommendations of food selections. The food was delicious and the whole experience was wonderful. We had a reservation for 10 at 730 pm. Upon arrival, we were taken to a semi- private room- just the right size fit our group! It was a Saturday evening. Live music just the right level to enjoy and still have conversation. The owner greeted us and Daisy was our server! The Margaritas were the best...with the Grand Marnier tucked in a unique way! Friendly and attentive staff, but it took quite a while to have drink order taken after first sitting down. Chips and salsa were the highlight of my visit, they were delicious, some really great salsa. It took almost half hour to receive my food after placing order. The three soft taco combo with rice and beans on the side. The tacos were decent, not great. The tortillas were fantastic, but the meat (al pastor) was a little wet for my liking. The rice was not good at all, but the beans were pretty good. I was in my lunch break from work so I couldn't have any margaritas , but they had $5 margaritas so that's a bonus as well. read more

A little different Mexican cuisine, and yummy. I had tacos and wife had shrimp tacos. Both were very good. Margaritas were just as yummy.

The hostess was attentive and our waiter was actually good and kind, The food presentation was good. I had the salsa and chips with the app size quesadilla, good flavors. However, the entire restaurant's location is old, when we walked in, it smelled like moth balls and dead rats honestly. Don't sleep on the potato tacos! These were delicious. We also had the carne tacos and they were equally impressive. Besides the food and the beautiful ambience inside the restaurant, the staff and management were very helpful! This would be a great venue for a corporate event or family celebration. This was our first time at Los Sombreros and we loved everything that we ordered. Service from our waiter was great - food was a little bit slow to come out but overall we would definitely return. The carnitas were not the typical - the meat was smoky, the portion was huge and the meat was amazingly juicy. These are by far the best carnitas I've had. My husband also loved his dish - pollo-con-espinaca. The chipotle sauce was delicious- it came with 2 large chicken breasts and 2 sides. We had plenty for left overs! After seating us, it took another 15-20 minutes before a server came to our table to take our order. The food was average. We arrived for early lunch to a very empty restaurant. We were seated promptly. The restaurant is lovely. Several of us had the chiliquilies which were not super great. The chips weren't crispy and the red sauce was bitter. Several had the huevos rancheros. They weren't impressed either. My hubby had one of their wood fired specialties that was pork in a smokey sauce - that was outstanding. If we end up here again that would be my choice. Nice surprise in Mesa tucked in the Asian Market Plaza (In the old Top Shelf Locations) First of all there margaritas crush. Try to get their early for some of the drink specials. A great starter is the Elote with chips. You will like this pairing above the salsa. (If you ask for their hot salsa be ready for the heat). For you vegetarians, their green corn tamale is is the best I've ever had. For those of you picky about the masa, you will find this satisfying. They also have a good backup in the vegan enchilada but go for the tamale first. The Carnitas are sensational however, if you really like rich dishes try the Puerco En Chipotle, I love that robust flavor from the tomato (Disclaimer: if you cannot handle dishes with high acidity you may want to stick to the carnitas) Pollo Con Espinacas was delicious too. The dish itself differed from the picture on the online menu as the cream sauce when served was darker. I though it would be a stuffed breast however, it was served to me layered with two generous sized breasts and plenty of spinach. They had a lamb dish they served previously which knocked it out of the park. I cam here looking for it. Hope it returns. There is a lot of pride in this menu that you can taste. I unfortunately have to say why they earned 4 stars and not 5. I had a takeout order which they immediately compensated me for (and were very nice too) They substituted 1 entree, forgot my elote, and had no desert. The costumer service was outstanding, from the restaurant owner, to the servers. The food was so delicious and AUTHENTIC, they welcomed us with a homemade delicious salsa and homemade chips. They gave a container of salsa to each individual person in our group, something we've never experienced at other restaurants. Also their guacamole salsa was so fresh and so good!
