We loved our New Year's Eve dinner at Los Sombreros! We were greeted warmly by one of the owners and taken to our table. Super delicious, attentive staff, great playlist. We took the family to Sombreros tonight. The two ladies taking care of us were friendly and prompt with service. They were particularly kind to our young children and made them feel at home. The food was so good! I had the mole poblano, my husband had the chiles en nogada, and we shared the Hutlacoche quesadilla. Everything was well balanced, savory, and unique. Not your typical Mesa Mexican food. We had an absolutely delicious meal. It started with very yummy Chips and Salsa. I had the Chile en Nogado releno; it melted in your mouth. The pomegranite seeds were a very nice touch. We selected this place because it was close to home and wanted to go somewhere new for National Taco Day. OH MY GOODNESS, SO GOOD!! Everything from their fire roasted peppers in their homemade warm salsa, delicious Guac, the Elote was to die for....of course had some carnitas and chicken tacos. I can't want to go back to try thr rest of the menu. Only suggestion is to make it look open for dine in from the front, hard to tell. Second using fresh lime and lemon juice in margaritas makes a world of difference. But everything food, service, atmosphere, ambiance was amazing. This is a gem in the local community. By far the best chips and salsa in my opinion. Margaritas are always great, and every dish we've had has been incredible.

I really really want to like this place and give it more stars and the Owner is great, the food is awesome, but the manager is so impersonal, careless with a low emotional intelligence and common sense. I have had several interactions with this place and every single one where he was involved, I left upset and disappointed. If you go when the owner, Adam, is there you will be lucky like I was with those interactions. However, if he is not... beware! We came here a long time ago when it had a different name. We came here today and the attitudes from the young ladies has turned me off! I asked to her to just sub a soft shell for hard and the quick no and eye roll was enough for me to not order. She didn't care and just took the menu. This is the first time I've been by Sombreros. I ordered online 12/18/20. They use "Popmenu". I ordered crispy potato tacos with sides of rice and refried beans. It's labeled to be vegetarian. A frustrating thing about their online menu- there aren't any chips and salsa to be ordered on the side. There's Guac and Queso Fundido but no option to order any chips/salsa. Yes- I know SOME restaurants give these complementary, but these days- a LOT of them don't. And there wasn't anything online telling me an online order for an entree will include these. (They did include a brown sandwich bag with chips and two good sized containers of salsa) My order was placed 12/18/20 (friday) at 6:11pm. I received a confirmation email stating that my order was "submitted but not yet confirmed". It says look out for another email confirming pickup time. At 6:30pm AND 6:32pm I received the following text message: "Your order has been received but not yet confirmed. Look out for a confirmation text with an estimated pickup time shortly." In between those duplicate texts I received an email at 6:31pm stating that my order "will be ready for pickup at 6:46pm" I parked there at 6:46pm. At 6:46pm AND 6:49pm I received the following text message: "Your order #671C67A3 was confirmed and will be ready for pickup at 6:46 PM (MST) on 12/18/2020." Between those two texts, I went inside at about 6:47pm. The decor was nice and they appeared to be spacing groups out well due to social-distancing. I walked up to the counter where a young woman and a middle-aged male (both wearing JUST a face shield. The kind that strap around the forehead and the shield is open on the bottom) greeted me. I said I was here to pick up an order for Melissa. The man who appeared to be training the woman, continued pressing buttons on the register and said that he was "throwing it in now, but it should only be about 3 minutes".. I wasn't offered an official receipt (I had paid online) and I did not ask for one. I stood off to the side to wait for my order. One thing I noticed was that the Christmas music was BLASTING and if I were dining in, that would be a huge negative. Inside the bag with my order was one of those "line receipts" that are used in the food industry and are basically to tell the cooks what to make. It said "Dusty" "Melisa" and "6:46pm" and my order. I'm guessing Dusty was the guy at the register? I'm not sure if the receipts are designed to print the time that the order needs to be completed by? (I have seen this before working in the industry) OR if that is the time Dusty actually looked at my online order and had then sent the receipt to the back? I don't know. But the fact that my name was not spelled as I placed my order with online, makes me think there's something ELSE funky going on with their online ordering system. Ie: Do they have to look over the orders that are submitted, to apparently "confirm" them, and then they type them into the system by hand again? This absolutely needs work. This leaves more room for mistakes to be made- the misspelling of my name is an obvious example of that. At 6:59pm the man came up to me and said "what was your order?" And I said "what was my order?". "Yeah, just-" "it was the tacos.. um potato tacos". "Ok, potato tacos. Melissa right?" As he walked back into the back. "Yes..." A minute later I hear him say something to coworkers along the lines of "I gotta get those potato tacos asap."... 7:01pm and he brings me the bag with my order and says "sorry for that wait, Dear" or some other pet name. The meal looked fine. The tacos were good. Not looking anything like the picture on their menu, though. As soon as I was almost finishing up the rice/beans at the end of the meal (I scooped them together)- there was something hard in the bite that I took. I spit it out to find a bone? Some kind of bone in my rice/beans. In my vegetarian meal. that was nice. Don't you people know that bones can choke people?? See picture. When ordering on the website I don't remember seeing any kind of heads up saying that they needed to "confirm" your order before it is prepared. The website even mentions to you that this will be "ready in 15-20mins" I've never seen this done before and I've ordered online from different places many times. When you are adding items to your cart, you see a message that "an online ordering fee may be applied to this order". seriously? This should make things easier for you. I could have called on the phone and spent 20 minutes asking you questions about the menu, only to order one entree. The online ordering fee was $0.50, heads up to those of you who would like to know. I know this place (just the Mesa location) is new- but it needs MAJOR work. This was a small $10 meal and presented with SO many issues. Pay more attention to your customers. Ps- I tipped online, BEFORE I placed my order. Why? I have no idea. I won't be returning. read more

Wow! I have been here two times and have been blown away with the quality of their fresh, savory, and great portioned dishes and amazing margaritas both times! Sydney the server was amazing and attentive. In addition the owner m/operator Adam was very accommodating and friendly and we had a great conversation. Homemade salsa was unique and delicious. Margarita flight was on point and fresh (tamarind, mango, and jalapeño), while my husband thoroughly enjoyed the mezcal old fashioned. Our meals were both very delicious and perfectly filling - ate it all but no wasteful leftovers which we usually have after Mexican restaurant dinners.
