Stopped here on the way home from the beach. The grilled pork ban mi was good. The toasted French baguette was nice, but the sandwich needs more meat on it. But I suppose that's why it was so cheap ($5.50). The fresh spring rolls and rare beef pho were very good. Also had an ice coffee, which was pretty good. Stronger than most I've had, so if you don't like very strong espresso flavor, maybe skip it. Would go back, especially for a the pho and fresh spring rolls. read more

BEST PHO IN TOWN. Whenever we are craving Vietnamese food, without question we go to Lotus Bistro (formally Cafe Lotus). Under new ownership, this place has a fantastic menu and the BEST PHO IN TOWN. If you enjoyed Cafe Lotus, the new owners have hired the former chef and the menu remains great, if not better than before. The atmosphere is clean, welcoming and the owners are absolutely lovely. It was my first time coming to lotus bistro and I can proudly say it's the best pho in Orange County. I took my parents here and we started with the appetizer combo and then all ordered our favorite large bowls of pho. The owner is awesome and so friendly. I really love the broth here. The most I ever add is chili paste. I have tried all their pho, and was especially surprised with the broth of their chicken soup. Came here today as I was craving some soup and bahn mi. I got the wonton soup and it was delish, they added egg noodle to it and it hit the spot! I also ordered a pork bahn mi and it was delish! Bland, tasteless, and overpriced food! Look at how many of their reviewers are actually Vietnamese. I am Vietnamese so I know how Vietnamese food should taste like. A group of ten of us came here for dinner on a Saturday at the suggestion of my brother who lives nearby. They were not that busy. We ordered seafood fried rice, lemon grass chicken, French-style diced beef, combo bird nest, tofu stir fry, and chicken curry. Basically, we ordered a wide variety off their menu. The food lacks seasoning and all dishes tasted very bland to say the least. God awful, period!!!! Overpriced for skimpy portion too. The place was clean though. No, we didn't try any of the pho or noodle dishes this time. There won't be a next time either. We asked for some side portion of extra rice but they ran out without telling us. When we were getting ready to pay the bill, then the rice came out with explanation of "we ran out of rice and had to cook some." WTF? Have you heard of an Asian restaurant running out of plain white rice at 8pm on a Sat? We then went to McDonald's for the kids at home and picked up extra nuggets and fries for us too. I am not kidding! Do you want a suggestion? I can't knock a place if I can't give you a recommendation. If it is out of your way to Bolsa (Little Saigon), try driving 20-minutes up the 55-FWY to Pho Hung Vuong in Tustin (on Newport Ave) or their second location in Irvine. Their Tustin location is pretty decent with flat screens and the service is not bad. More importantly, the food is always fresh and great with authentic taste. I have tried most of their rice and pho dishes for the last 6-7 years. I mostly order to go to take home for dinner. Never disappointed. Best of all, Pho Hung Vuong is even cheaper (20-30%) for much better food. I am not affiliated with them in any way. Just want you all to have a good dining experience with good Vietnamese food. They are not that busy at night but very crowded for lunch from people working nearby. read more

Not sure what's happened here, today's experience didn't match my previous ones. Service was pretty quick and efficient, but... We were seated next to the wide-open front door, with a pretty stiff breeze blowing through it. The waiter just sort of laughed it off when my wife mentioned this to him. Combination pho was good, but I like the variety of other places that provide tripe and tendon, two things missing from my bowl. At least the veggies were fresh and plentiful. I've come to expect refills on iced tea at other pho joints, but once my glass was empty it was picked up, never to reappear. read more

I'm conflicted about the low review due to the foods great flavor I've tried many pho places and the food here is not bad in comparison, however the price was so outrageously high that the meal still left a bad taste in my mouth. for a regular pho, egg rolls, and a coke meal for one $30. Unfortunately I work here in Newport and I haven't found any other pho place in the area all other places I have been to with my wife and kids 5 of us can eat for $40 to $50 I don't think I'll be going back and can't possibly recommend unless you've got cash to burn. read more

So this was a great place when I first started coming here. However the last 3 times, very DISSAPOINTING. They ran out of basil the last time and thought it was better not to serve it at all instead of driving to Sprouts to pick up more. Spring rolls were forgotten twice and even after explaining that I was drinking iced tea, they refilled the glass with water, TWICE. Food is decent, about an 8, WHEN they have all the ingredients. Oh and there is a younger female waitress that seems to simply hate working there and is exceedingly rude when confronted with the mistakes. read more
