I went in for a routine cleaning and I got a shower. The wettest cleaning -- water everywhere. Maybe it's more the assistant's responsibility with the vacuum thing, but the dentist didn't seem to want to slow down. He had several appointments squeezed in together and I was just another body in the assembly line. His assistant did about 50% of the work. He spent a couple minutes talking to me about my teeth (he came off as a bit arrogant), did a quick cleaning (which didn't feel all that clean after) and then he was off to the next patient. I guess the goal is to retire by 40. I told his assistant about getting wet, and she just turned away. His admins were a bit curt. I tried to ask a question and the response was, "Wait!" I wanted my x-rays and it took about three times of verbal and email requests for the staff to finally send them to me. I previously had a great dentist for over ten years before I had to change because of relocation. Maybe my standards are higher because of that, but my shirt shouldn't be wet after a routine cleaning. read more

Dr. Lois Moon gets one star for getting the job done. Otherwise I began to wonder about the amount of Novacane I was injected. I came for a cleaning and a filling. Well, drilling was intense to put it mildly, and had little confidence the dentist was paying attention as he was chit chatting with his assistance all along the procedure. He got up saying "done" and left without saying "bye" I could not even open my lips to rinse at the end of the procedure. I was excited to get dental coverage for the first time under Medicare Advantage. I felt I got the cheapo treatment. No wonder Tijuana gets the good ratings. At least from me. read more

I've seen Dr. Moon twice now, once for a routine cleaning and once for a cavity filling. The team at the front desk are super patient and helpful with regards to scheduling and billing questions I had. Dr. Moon is pretty chill and genuinely cares about the well-being and experience of his patients. I guess a lot of people have trauma surrounding their dental experiences, so he is mindful of making sure you are not pushed beyond your comfort level. Quite thoughtful. Excited to have found a new dentist I like! Definitely recommend! *update* 12/6/22 First deep clean ever. Dr. Moon works super quickly (and even counted down in between administering doses of numbing agent upon my request!) He communicated to me about possible pain and discomfort, even offering to break up the clean into two different dates, but I did it in one go because he works so efficiently. I went there last year toward the end of the year for a root canal, I do have to say this office is impressive.. like the latest equipment and in Irvine.. So I went there thinking this is going to be good.. The Dr came in and did my Root Canal ( it was a 1st molar ) normally 3-4 roots but he drilled out 3 Roots, after a week or more my tooth was still hurting.. So I went back there again after a couple weeks and the Dr said It has to heal on its own and if it does not get any better then we have a problem... now the tooth was getting infected and I had a huge buccal bubble on the gums that indicated the tooth has an infection problem.. so I decided to go to an Office in Costa Mesa.. which specialized in Root Canals.. and guess WHAT ??? That office drilled a 4th root which was my infection problem... ( Root Canal was not done correctly the first time or completely neglected a possibility that there was a 4th root ) This Office in CM completed my Root Canal and Immediately my infection went away and my tooth has not given me a problem. It's a Perfect Root Canal so just because an office located in a expensive city or has the best and latest equipment.. it's not the equipment that makes a good Dr.. but the skills of that Dr that makes a good Dentist. The pickings are slim for Medi-Cal dentists, but I'm happy I found Dr. Moon! He is an honest, friendly & knowledgeable dentist. He was careful when handling my teeth & explained everything to me in terms that I understood. He was upfront with costs (what is covered by Medi-cal) & provided over the counter alternatives before out of pocket products or procedures so I didn't feel pressured. Yessenia did my X-ray & cleaning. She was kind, quick & efficient while also mindful of my comfortability which I appreciated. The place was very clean & newly renovated. I went to this place in need at someone to look at the cavities that I had, and my tooth pain near the back of my mouth. The dentist really analyzed all the pains and helped me with the cavities in my mouth. I felt no pain when they went near my mouth and I would totally go back to this place! I will make it short. Just DON'T go to this dentist. He recommends deep cleaning and other treatments that are not needed. My dentist friend laughed at Mr. Moon (won't even call him a doctor) when she saw my x-rays and all the things he said I needed. She said I did not need any of the treatments Mr. Moon claimed I needed. I scheduled my teeth cleaning appointment in late 2022 w/this dental group as they bought the previous practice I had been a patient of. The office had been upgraded and my cleaning went well. Even one of the assistants made the X-rays more pleasant. . all was good, UNTIL several months later, my porcelain crown had cracked in Febrary 2023 and I wanted it to be replaced w/o any metal, exactly like I had (as I had purposely removed all metal in my mouth due to health issues 12 years eariler. Dr Moon said he couldn´t do it because of ¨my insurance¨ (he said that a lot, over and over again, LOUD) and he even challenged me to find someone in OC that would do it. I called my insurance an she assured me that it was 100 percent COVERED and showed me in the contract where they are obligated to perform what IS covered. He lied me me. He just didn´t like their payment, even though he signed their contract agreement! Plus he agreed to grandfather in all the previous doctor´s patients in when he bought the practice. Ironically I had called into their front desk before scheduling to come in about my cracked crown and asked her what they charged for a cash payment. .was curious. She said $1,200! I responded, ¨the insurance company pays that amount?¨ She said, ¨Oh God no . .we bill for that and they pay us less¨ They get somewhere in the range of ~$650 via insurance. . (so almost DOUBLE for cash patients. . crazy, right?), but it is less with the insurance plan I have. They just refuse to install it and lie about how my insurance doesn´t cover it. LIE! FRAUD .. and if the insurance company knows they refused (and I told them) and don´t hold them to their policies and the practitioner´s signed agreement, that is racketeering, a catch 22 for the patients. I refuse to put more metal in my mouth because of this circular bureaucracy and injury my health yet again. When will the practitioners look after ALL their patients and be held liable to the contracts they agreedd to and signed? And when will the insurance companies hold their feet to the fire and stand up FOR the patients? Would it help if I said I was an illegal immigrant or just in from Ukraine? What good is the insurance if they refuse to do it? If there needs to be a pow-wow between the insurance people andthe practitioners re/the monies paid .. FINE. But in the meantime, follow your obligations to all your patients and the contract you agreed and signed. It´s classism and I felt it. I used to have a PPO and right now, I don´t. .but it IS covered. I had a lot of respect for my last dentist and his staff and had delayed finding a new one when he moved to another state. I left this dentist's office feeling very uneasy and, frankly, angry. Without knowing anything about me, he asked me a weird question about whether my husband went there and intrusive questions about my profession. I also felt the doctor was upselling and pressuring me to agree to very expensive procedures so he could make $$$$$$$. The equipment they use also appears to be old and parts of the bathroom were dusty. The worst part was that the dentist supposedly cleaned my teeth in a span of like 5-10 mins. It was very impressive when I stepped into Louis Moon Dental Group. It was NICE and CLEAN. Dr. Moon is amiable as well as the staff at the front desk (Danny and Rachel). Nancy, who takes care of the insurance, explains the cost and copay for the procedureI was so scared during my root canal, but Edgar, who assisted Dr. Moon, calmed my nerve down.
