I live down the street from the one on Geary, but have never been. Now I know how lucky I am! I was going to design my own, but got lazy and chose the RB Mushroom-something-or-other on a soft roll. Good balance of juicy meat & fixin's. And even though the bread was toasted, it was still nice and soft inside. And the special sauce? MMM. The outside is reminiscent of A&W...perhaps it's the brown and warm orange colors on their sign and awning. Walking in, the shop is very spacious and clean; their gourmet sandwich menu is quite varied and each sandwich includes their special sauce; expect to pay roughly $7. Ordered the BBQ chicken sandwich on a sweet soft roll. While I enjoyed their sandwich I felt the cheese and their special sauce made the sandwich a bit too saucy, and lacked the BBQ flavor. Huge sub sandwiches and super friendly service. I've been to both the Geary location and this new one in Sunset many times and love both. This one is more spacious than the one on Geary and it has lots of seating. The signature subs are great and my favorite is the Roma's Club. My favorite breads are Dutch Crunch and Soft & Sweet Roll. These sandwiches are super hefty with meat, bread, and sauce, so this is not a light meal. I've also had the salads and soups before and they're all excellent. Soup comes with bread with melted cheese on top. According to other Yelpers it also looks like you can ask for a lettuce wrap instead of bread -- I'll have to try that! read more

OMGGG THANK YOU LOU'S CAFE for opening up in the Sunset!! :D Now I can eat here more often when I'm craving for one of your yummy sandwiches (which is often)! Anyways stopped by here on a lunch break with my coworker and this time I had ordered the Risky Bizness lettuce wrap instead of having bread, since I'm trying to do a low carb diet for my upcoming trip! I also got extra jalapeño and the garlic sauce on the side. And I got my coworker the Amicado...my treat! =) They gave me a stamp card and both the wrap and sandwich costed me less than $20 (super affordable)! It also only took them about 10 minutes to make. My wrap was soOo good and flavorful!! And even though it was a little more difficult and messier to eat, it was well worth it! I also felt healthier eating it too even though I was spreading both sauces on there with almost every bite! LOL...anyways again I'm super excited for this new location and I know they will definitely thrive here in the Sunset and will be just as popular as their Geary location! My go-to's are the LLB and Veggie-Licious. Before you say no to vegetarian sandwiches, you NEED to try theirs. PACKED with veggies and flavors and it will stuff your stomach up! Other brother runs that one .I had the "Risky Business" on Dutch Crunch.....pastrami, bacon, crab salad, avocado and all the extras for under $9! Surely beats the recent sandwiches I've had for comparable prices ie Ike's and Grubbin (they charge $2 extra for meat)! Wifey got the vegetarian loaded with goodies for under $8. Lou's is consistently delicious with amazing customer service, great portions, and high quality meats and produce sliced to perfect for every sandwich. I come here a lot( my wallet thinks a little too often) and always enjoy my delicious sandwich. My favorite is the loquito (turkey, avacado, tortilla chips, the fixin's, and jalapeno spread), but I plan on trying all of them at least once. The drinks are good too, with a solid cup of coffee or late. Though the sandwiches are cheap, the quality and deliciousness make up for it and is well worth it. read more

Walked by the place a few times on the way home from work. Its new, its clean and the staff is very friendly! The sign looks old school San Francisco in beige, brown and orange so may blend in too much to the surrounding buildings. If you cant find it, its across the street from clean express next to some kind of sanrio/pikachu store. The sandwiches are nice and tasty. Ingredients are fresh and you get a whole lotta options. I tried the meatball today but im excited to try the others. Be careful, the dutch crunch was a little tough on the top for some reason. (almost stale? But thats not right cause the rest of the roll tasted fresh). I order dutch crunch all the time and i dont know if its the bakery where they get the bread or maybe its how its stored and toasted. I am a fan of the other sandwich places that popped up on Taraval and I can see that Lou's has some stiff competition but I have some issues with these spots too. Here are a few other players: Trolleys is never opened; Grubbin runs out of dutch crunch and the line is rediculous sometimes. 30minutes for a sammy? Chop chop guys.. Their menu is also smaller so less choices; Genes is a corner store deli so its more grab and go. Give Lou's a try if you want variety and a nice friendly environment to enjoy a nice and filling meal. read more

Yeah it was exactly what I ordered on paper, but no style or expertise which is what people come to expect from Lou's, a properly made sandwich with an eye towards personal enjoyment. Weekend isn't a weekend without a Saturday sandwich run to Lou's. We live close enough that we can call our order in and pick it up within a few minutes. Lou's cafe makes a good sandwich. Their special sauce is a good mix of tangy/sweet and then spicy. They lack the fifth star for efficiency. They have never meet the 10-15 minute wait time I've been given and half of the time my order has not been what I wanted. For example, I always add mushrooms to my sandwiches, and only got mushrooms in my sandwich 50% of the time. I also always request a side of marinara with my sandwich and always have to ask again. Nothing too big of a deal - but these are reasons why I cannot give 5 stars. read more

Sister location of the Geary location. Everything on the menu is the same and same good quality. Service is definitely A+ with this family run business. Their special sauce definitely is makes me coming back. I recommend their breakfast sandwiches, Ami-Cado and Turkey Cranberry. Their bread are bought fresh every morning for the day. Their clam chowder is also a regular side for me. This location is definitely bigger than the their Geary location. Has free Wi-Fi as well. I found lots of parking every single time. This is our new local sandwich place! My son loves the Ultimate Club and my Dad loved the Roma Club. I've had the Hot Pastrami before and loved it. I was super excited to try this place because I'd heard about the one in The Richmond many times before. I've now been to this location three times and I think that's enough to reasonably say that the sandwiches are okay (that is, the two vegetarian sandwiches specifically since I'm a vegetarian), but that I don't find anything really special about them. They were also always a bit soggy. I do find it interesting though how many meat-eaters actually love the veggie sandwiches here. I do like the location on Taraval, right off the L line. I don't like the amount of time it takes to order and get a sandwich. It's not a place I'd recommend if you're on a time crunch. If I'm on Taraval, I'll probably stick to Gene's (a classic) or just take a short trip over to Java Beach. read more

I love this cafe!!!! They use Boar's Head meats and the owner Mark is very dedicated to his work. He pours so much of himself into his business and in his products. He's got a very nice family too. I love his wife, I guess you can call her my soul sister. I haven't been to the Cafe on Geary, but I've heard the lines are always out the door.
