It was a Saturday afternoon and lunch was on our minds. We had been driving around in circles on a mission to find a food truck called Small Town Cooks. After searching around for some time we came to the conclusion that we wouldn't be able to locate it. After doing some research Bunny found that it was moved and no longer on Barber Lane. It gets worse, the truck was only available on Monday through Fridays! As we walked around in Milpitas Square, we decided on Loving Hut. Being that I'm not a vegetarian, this experience was different. At this point, it was past 2 and we didn't want to eat anything too heavy since dinner was right around the corner. We went with the healthy route. Upon entering we were greeted by a friend hostess. I noticed that the theme of the restaurant was white, which had a peaceful feel to it. As we looked at the menu and scanned through our options, we decided on one appetizer and two entrees, The Golder Nuggets, Formosa Noodle Soup and Guru's Curry. Our server was nice as she came back to bring our water and chopsticks. First up came the Golden nuggets. It's nice and fresh. As I took my first bite into it, I forgot for a second that I was at a vegetarian restuarant. It tasted almost like a chicken nugget. Other than being deep fried, none of the ingredients were the same. There was some soy protein and the inside was stringy. Next came my order. whch was Formosa noodle soup. There were four noodle soups on the menu and I had narrowed it down to this or Bun Hue. However, Bun Hue would have been spicy, I chose Formosa. As T took a look at it, my firsth thought was that it looked like beef stew. However instead of beet, they were filled with soy. There were plenty of vegetables, consisting of large pieces of bak choy, turnips, carrots. Underneath, there was a abundant amount of noodles. I was unable to finish this bowl. Last came Bunny's Guru's Curry. There was a lot of peas and potatoes, and little soya bean wraps. It was pretty tasty but the spice in the curry was a big strong for me, which is good that we ordered a bowl of rice. I had tried some of this dish and also enjoyed it, despite the strong spicy flavor. It was nice to try something new. I wouldn't mind coming back in the distant future, but since there are so many other restuarants in the Square that I haven't tried, this wouldn't be my first choice. read more

Wish I could give this place more than 3 stars, since I enjoy vegan restaurants usually but I just can't. This was my second visit there and I was hoping to be blown away, and I wasn't. I ordered the rainbow salad and that was a joke. Basically just shredded cabbage and Italian dressing. Blah. The Queens was pretty good, but was a LOT of black pepper. So I am a hard judge because I hate seeing all that spice on my food and having to scrape it off. My cousin is vegan and I was looking for a place that we could all go out to eat at. The Loving Hut came highly recommended by a few different friends. When we first got there we had to wait for about 15 minutes because the lunch rush was going on. Other larger parties were seated before us, but we had a baby with us so it's understandable. They can only put baby chairs at booths yada yada yada. At first, we were all thinking of getting our own entree, but we decided it would be better to order a few different dishes and share family style. The people at the table next to us were served a delicious looking dish that we needed, so my grandmother went over and asked them what it was. It looked glorious, so we had to get one. We ended up ordering wonton soup, singapore noodles, kung pao and crispy mushrooms. The soup was delicious and tasted EXACTLY like wonton soup at any decent chinese restaurant. The noodles were very tasty as was the kung pao. The crispy mushrooms were a big hit with everyone though. Whatever sauce they come in is fantastic! For dessert, we got a slice of vanilla cake and the deep fried ice cream. The cake was decent, but the deep fried ice cream was PHENOMENAL! I was so full , but I couldn't stop eating it. It was cherry garcia ice cream battered and fried and served with apples and a sweet red sauce. I went to Loving Hut for the first time this weekend, and though the food was acceptable, the service was a bit questionable. It was my boyfriend's 23rd birthday, and after surprising him, we decided to go to Loving Hut with his sister and her two friends who have gone there before. The environment was very clean and pristine, with some sort of chanting music in the background that I was not too fond of. A waiter came right away with menus and waters, and that specific waiter who kept refiling our waters was probably the nicest one there. We ordered the Heavenly Salad, which was alright. I'm not a fan of shredded pieces of cabbage and purple cabbage, which is all the salad was. Aside from a squeeze of lemon and a pinch of dressing (which was all the way at the bottom and required lots of mixing), the salad wasn't the very best. We also ordered their House special soup, which was fairly yummy. It tasted like other Asian soups, but with soy protein of course. We then had the Pad Thai which was my second favorite, the Gourmet Fried Rice which I also really liked, and my favorite, the Queens. The sauciness and yumminess of the Queens overpowered any "soy" taste, and it was served with lettuce and onions which complemented each other. The reason I give three stars here is solely for the food. Since it was my boyfriend's birthday, his friend had brought Beard Papa's Cream Puffs to the lunch. After eating, the waiter dropped off the bill and while we were dividing money, we opened up the creampuffs. Mid-bite, one of the waiters came up and politely said, "Sorry but there's no outside food allowed in here, but okay, thanks, okay?" Which was confusing, so we stopped eating but didn't put the bitten cream puffs back into the box. Then another lady, presumably an owner or someone came within 2 minutes of the other guy, and said "Hey! No. Outside. Food. Allowed!!!" And just walked off. We didn't see a sign, nor were we eating it anymore, we were just trying to pay the bill and get out. We respectfully will adhere to rules but there is no need to tell us the same things twice in two minutes and in such a rude manner. So all in all, food is decent, service is decent. So I tried loving hut for the very first time today! I'm not a vegan or anything but I love food, so here is my take.. What we ordered Spicy Tofu with Eggplant- so very delicious the tofu tasted like it melted in your mouth, the eggplant was not overcooked (some places tend to make it very soggy) The sauce was very flavorful and it went well with the brown rice, only one gripe is I wished they would add more jalapenos..there was only 2 slices. When a dish has the name spicy in it, I expect it to burn my mouth! lol Tom Ka Kha Soup- hmm this soup had the right amount of sourness. It had pineapple, mushrooms, sprouts, and basil with coconut milk. Very Large bowl of soup you can probably share with 4 people..There was only two of us so you can imagine how full we were getting . Ocean Basket: the tarter sauce was very interesting, it came with french fries, coleslaw, fried mushrooms and fried shrimp. So delicious! Ordered take out at 5 and it was supposed to be ready by 5:20 however it wasn't ready until almost 6. I assume this was due to being a little backed up with orders and there weren't many employees due to the pandemic. We ordered 5 dishes. Chow mein- very good! Tasted like your standard chow mein. The tofu was very good! Lemon beauty- 11/10! The best! Everyone loved this. Super crispy and tasty. The sauce was delicious! Walnut Cha Cha- this was also the best! Sooo crispy!!! The sauce was so good and the walnuts added a really good flavor! Cashew fever- my least favorite. The seitan was really, really tough and hard to chew but everything else was really delicious. My family and I ordered the Vermicelli Delight, Queens, and Orange Treasure. As an appetizer, we ordered the spring rolls. Spring rolls: Came with 4 rolls. Good peanut sauce. They were really fresh and yummy. Vermicelli Delight: Probably my favorite of the meal. If you like noodles, I would recommend this dish. Queens: Such a flavorful dish! It had "meat", bell peppers, and onions. If you're looking for a more savory dish, this one is for you. Orange treasure: The best way to describe this dish would be a vegan version of orange chicken plus veggies. It also had pineapples as well, so the sauce for it had a hint of pineapples. Overall, everything tasted great. Very light, but giving that very satisfied feeling. Whenever I have a vegan meal, I'm always full of energy after. Tried out this place today. Finally so many vegan options! Ordered pad Thai, Rolling Tango, spring rolls, green juice, vanilla milkshake and tiramisu. Everything was delish, but the rolling tango and the green juice was fantastic! Definitely worth another visit to explore other things on the menu. Parking lot was packed though. Loving Hut is my favorite vegan/vegetarian restaurant. Probably the only veggie restaurant that I know of too. The inside of the restaurant is really nicely lit. Everything seems so clean and white! Everything I've eaten was so tasty and I didn't crave meat at all during the meal because they do have certain food that substitutes meat. I did notice that I had to eat a lot to be full, but I guess that is good in a way so that you will finish everything you order. The service here is really good. There are people constantly checking up on you and refilling your tea when needed and taking away empty dishes. They also have a mini bakery I believe, but I've never tasted any of the desserts/cake they have. Overall the food here tastes very refreshing and it's worth a try! Everything comes in a decent sized portion. The downside is that they close fairly early. If you're like me and eat late, then you would probably have to make an effort to come early to eat, otherwise it seems like it's always closed! read more

This is my first Vegan Restaurant ever!!!! And I love it! I think if this is truly Vegan than we should all start eating at the Loving Hut daily. Super clean, super fast, super fresh, super delicious and I would almost say the best food in SJ! Really. I'm a foodie and a health nut so being in healthcare administration for the public at least try the Loving Hut once before saying no to Vegan. I've changed my mind totally and I'm from Austin TX. Where grilling steals is part of our weekly family time. Most homes are built with outdoor grills in my neighborhood. There were plenty of seats available yet it still took over 10 minutes to seat us. o_O There were 3 workers and I wasn't sure why it even took so long. We ordered the Fragrant Nugget and the Tom Kha Kai Soup and enjoyed both. The Fragrant Nugget was freakin' delicious! It was crispy pieces of tofu stir fried with onion, jalapeno, and a cumin sauce which I could not get enough of. I kept using my rice to wipe the plate clean of the that yummy sauce. We were a party for 4 for a Friday night dinner. Didn't need a reservation and got a table as soon as we got there at 8pm. The menu was extensive, so we went for familiar dishes. Two out of 4 of us were vegetarians. The spring rolls appetizers was crunch on the outside and soft on the inside. This is the best spring rolls I have had. The spicy wontons was not spicy like it sounded. It was delicious as well. We also had the Tom kha soup. It's usually white but it was red here served with pineapples. I am a huge fan of the regular Tom Kha soup at a Thai restaurant. I didn't enjoy this as much, but was surely good. For the main course, we got a panang curry, spicy basil fried rice and crispy mushrooms. We had to order a side of white/brown rice. A small bowl of rice is $2 and big bowl is $4. Their portions are huge. So a big bowl is about 4 times a regularly served small bowl of rice. The panang curry had good flavors. their crispy mushrooms didn't taste anything like mushrooms. It was crispy outside and extremely soft on the inside, which kind of felt weird inside my mouth. It was plain in taste and their side of sauce didn't elevate the taste. The spicy basil fried rice wasn't spicy again. It tasted like plain fried rice. To elevate flavors, you might want to maybe get a side curry, which we didn't. We have been to one other vegan Restaurant, but we loved this place compared to that. The flavors don't match that of an actual Thai place, but it's definitely worth a try. I would come here if I turn vegan. Since there were not a lot of people, we were taken care of really well. Kudos to the service and our orders came out very fast as well. The only thing I really like here is the bun hue(spicy rice noodle soup), and the spicy cha cha(which is like fried shrimp), and the golden era(don't know how to describe it, but it tastes like fried, poofy, deliciousness). The clay pot sensation is good. It looks and tastes like fish. You should try and eat it all at the restaurant though, it tasted gross when I reheated it in the microwave. Maybe I over heated it though. The queens was ok. Doesn't taste like chicken though, it taste more like fake cha lua(pork roll) cooked with soy sauce and black pepper. The flavor is decent, I just don't like the texture(very firm). The Gurus Curry is ok. It's spicy, and the flavor is good, but I didn't like the soy protein in it. I think it would taste better if it only came with onions, peas, and potatoes. It'd also taste better if they had naan, but they don't. Darn. The hot and sour soup was ew. The broth didn't have much flavor, and it seemed like they loaded the soup with everything they could find in the kitchen. I want soup, not large chunks of tofu, soy protein, and jalapenos geez. I THINK(I really can't remember because this was from my first visit a year ago) I tried the Crispy Mushroom Delight. It might not even be on the menu anymore, but I remember eating some kind of crispy mushroom and I got disgusted because the mushroom inside felt super slimy inside. It was like eating a fried worm HA. My nephew tried the golden nuggets appetizers. He didn't like it, I guess it didn't tast as good as Mcdonald's chicken nuggets ha. It definitely didn't come with any bbq or sweet and sour sauce. Poor nephew he has to suffer eating vegan food because of me. I like that they sell vegan products though. I bought vegan italian sausages here last year and made baked ziti with it for Thanksgiving. This place is too pricey though, the food isn't that great, and the menu isn't even that extensive. This place is a chain? No way! Tried this place last week during lunch and I thought to myself, "pretty damn good vegetarian food." It's located in Milpitas Square so be careful not to arrive between 12p-1p because this area gets jammed pack by employees trying to eat during their lunch hour. If you arrive between 11:30-11:45, then you've saved yourself some stress free time finding parking. My friend and I ordered the Tom Yum soup, along with the egg plant with tofu and this Shrimp dish that was deep fried glutton in tempura batter with garlic and thai peppers (Cha cha or something?) and they were all a mouth full of flavor. I have been to this place twice already. I am surprised I missed writing a review the first time around. I am an avid fan of crispy noodles and I was so glad when I realized this place had it on its menu. Anyway, I ended up getting that dish and unfortunately it was a major disappointment. Somehow the noodles and the gravy didn't gel together. I had a tough time crunching my way through the very crispy noodles. The sauce it was topped with was also not very good. Ive tasted many dishes here as well as their affiliate, The Vegetarian House, in San Jose, and everything has been delicious. I am proud carnivore, but am looking for ways to be healthy. Beware if you have celiac disease or other food allergens. The menu may be demarcated gluten free but when you ask them about the ingredients they couldn't be more clueless about what gluten actually is-- they think without flour or carbs makes it gluten free but had no idea that soy sauce has gluten. I don't trust places that don't know about food allergens. Also, when you order a coconut juice, they use a vita coco and put it in a glass with ice then charge you $5 for it. I watched the process. I'm no way a Vegetarian, so I was a bit surprised when someone brought me some food from this place and I enjoyed it. I've only tried 2 things here, the Gurus Curry and the Mi Fun. I've ordered the Gurus Curry every single time (probaby 4-5 times), so I'll probably be trying something different next time. **YELP TIP** Only once did I dine in, you can actually call them ahead for a pick up order. The place is very clean and the staff is very attentive and friendly. This use to be some other cafe and I've been in here when it was that other business. Even then the decor and environment was nice, so I don't really know how much they changed with the Loving Hut moving in. I only deduct stars when I find complaints. It's very minor which warrants only the need to take one off. When dining in and asking for water, it is not cold! There is no ice. It's room temperature. I thought maybe when they go around to refill it, the container will have cold water, but nope--still room temperature. I joked with my GF and said maybe that's how Vegetarians drink water. Well I still don't know is it how you Vegetarians prefer your water? I only tried the 2 mentioned dishes, but have always been satisfied. The portion for the dollar was plenty. You could probably share each dish between 3 people unless you are a fat pig. *NOTE* During the dinner service, rice is not included with entrees that obviously need it--like my Gurus Curry. On the lunch menu it is however included. I like the fake meat they have in the Gurus Curry, but I wish they put more of it in the dish. After ordering it plenty of times, it now seems like the potatoes are overwhelming it. Still very good though if you have not tried it. Overall good Vegetarian spot. This was my first vegan restaurant experience. I had no expectations and was pleasantly surprised. The decor in here is nice... modern and very clean. If some of you think Vegetarian House is "creepy" and cult-like, you might like Loving Hut's atmosphere better. (I personally was fine with Vegetarian House) I had: Crispy Mushroom Delight - Loved this dish. Perfect in every way. The mushrooms are deep fried then doused with a sweet brown sauce and topped with crispy basil. Yum! Spicy Cha Cha - So these are yam crescents, but it reminded me a lot of the salt and pepper shrimp you get at chinese restaurants. This was also very good, and honestly, could have fooled me! It really does kinda taste like shrimp. Even my husband said so! Golden Era - At this point I was getting a little sick from eating all fried food (leave it to me to order nothing but fried, haha), but this was ok too. Little protein nuggest in a lemon pepper sauce. The sauce was decent, not so much my cup of tea though. I was so excited to try Loving Hut. I've seen it in Oakridge mall before, but never really wanted to try Vegan food. Yesterday my mom needed to eat Vegeterian food, because it's apart of the buddhist religion that you eat vegeterian food on certain days of the month. I suggested we go here after reading wonderful Yelp reviews. First off I want to note that the service here is wonderful. The servers are very nice and attentive. The food on the other hand is so so and not very exciting. My mom and I ordered the Golden Nugget, Clay Pot Sensation, Golden Era, and Gourmet Fried Rice. Golden Nuggest-Great! Taste just like a chicken nuggest. Have to get this as your starter. In some bites I could taste the soy, but overall its very good. Clay Pot Sensation-Not a pass, but so so. You get a lot of the price of $12. I would like this dish better if it wasn't DRENCH in sauce. The soy wannabe fish is very good, but since the "fish" sits in the clay pot full of sauce, it's way to salty. Just scrap all the sauce off and it will taste way better. I've lately been very into vegetarian/vegan food and was very excited to come across a delicious restaurant, Loving Hut. Me & my friends came on a Tuesday right when they opened at 11AM. We ordered 2 Gourmet Fried rice, Walnut Cha Cha, Kung Pao Seitan, General Tsao, and basil fries. The drinks we had included fresh watermelon juice, Thai iced tea, and a Vanilla Milkshake, of which all was very refreshing, especially the watermelon. It's unbelievable that the all of the foods taste like regular meat but it is actually vegan. I definitely recommend the walnut Cha Cha(basically like honey walnut shrimp), and the General Tsao. Our lady server was very kind and I liked how she brings out all the food around the same time. I will definitely return again to try the other things on the menu! read more

SERVICE: There were 3 workers when we were dining there, a older woman, a younger woman and a man. The younger woman was extremely nice. I'd give her 5 stars for her service alone. The other two workers are the ones that bring the rating down. I had asked for an additional to go container for the my soup, she seemed irritated that i even asked, and she never brought it. Rude much? The male server was helping another table seemed a bit short with them. It's a shame to have people like that working in a service industry. They need more of the younger woman. SUPER NICE! WHAT WE ORDERED: MUSHU ROLL: very light and refreshing. came with a peanut sauce that was also very light in flavor, I added some spice to the sauce and then it was ok. FRIED TOFU: Flavor was bland as well. also had to add some spice in it. SPICY CHA CHA: LOVE! Would have been extremely great with a beer, but the only thing from the bar were two non-alcoholic beverages. *sigh* Fried Yam batter. Don't let the shape fool you, it's not shrimp. BON HUE: Waaaaaay better than the one at Tofu Com Chay. There's nothing that "pretends" to be meat. The broth is also a bit lighter than the actual bon bo hue, but with a lemon squeezed in it and some spice you're good to go. BASIL FRENCH FRIES: Please take this away from me. First off, the menu was very helpful because there was a picture of almost EVERY dish they serve. There is a lot of choices and is great for Vegans! (Obviously) Prices are decent. And food is good, as well as presentation. Service is not that bad, although it took a stare down to get my waitress to come over to take me and my friends' orders.
