A place that has great reviews and serves eggs benedict within 2 miles of where I live is basically unheard of, so I was suuuuuper excited to come across Lucho's. For the first time, like, ever I opted to get chilaquiles instead of an eggs benny. Best decision, zero regrets. I added beef birria and was completely stuffed (note to self: order the half size next time). My extremely picky with Mexican food partner got the chicken pibil plate and he (also for the first time, like, ever) had zero complaints and only good things to say. Service was very friendly and prompt. There was a bit of a wait and they kindly handed out menus, but don't forget to look at their chalkboard of daily specials! Small but cute interior. This place is really amazing, tacos with a crispy shell, Cochinita pibil (pulled pork that is aged) was the best I have had in this country. Reminded me of eating in Merida Yucatán. At that time, they had outdoor dining set up exclusively, and although they still have some of their outdoor seating available, they've since reopened their indoor dining. While a bit close-quartered, it's a great way to observe the kitchen churning out some delicious food in very tight confines. Never again will I complain about the size of my kitchen. Being such a popular place, particularly for brunch on weekends, the process is a smooth one. Simply put your name on the list, and after they call you, head up to the register and order your meal. Of course, if you want to order more, you can always do that from your table, but that's pretty much it--and it works. And speaking of the food, it's outstanding! I'm a big fan of Lucio's Omelette ($16.25), whereas my wife likes trying various items from the menu. During our most recent visit, she ordered the California Eggs Benedict ($18.25), complete with bacon and avocado. This time of year, they also have Pumpkin Pancakes, which are truly special. We've always gotten takeout here either through pickup or doordash, so we finally decided to eat here in person. It's a very small spot, but they have both indoor and outdoor seating available. When we got there, the owner immediately asked if we were dining in and he made sure there was room to sit us. We then ordered, paid, and got seated with a number plate. We usually order the chilaquiles and benedict to go, but the day we went they had a birria benedict special so we had to try it and it was soo delicious. The meat was super juicy, tender, and full of flavors. For the chilaquiles, half order is plenty and you have to make sure to add the cochinita pibil which is their special pork. The chips does get soggy pretty quickly, so definitely move fast if you want some crunch. For drinks, we got their mexican coffee which is made with cinnamon, anise, clove, brown sugar and orange zest. It was a nice sweet treat to balance off the savory dishes. The owners are also super nice people. They were pretty busy when we went, but whenever they had a glimpse of down time, they made their way around to make sure everyone was doing okay. Got a "bacon" breakfast burrito to go on 12/10/2022, and there was literally NO bacon in the burrito. Unfortunately, this does it for me. I had to make my own sausages at home to substitute for the meat left out. Upgraded star to two since we were refunded for the bacon. Eats: bunuelos with cinnamon and sugar half chilaquiles, add cochinita pibil and sour cream birria benedict (special) The bunuelos were quite dense. I'd like to try their honey glazed ones sometimes. The chilaquiles were good and definitely needed the meat and sour cream. A couple of gripes: soggy, super oily, needed some sort of freshness (maybe cilantro?). They cooked their egg over medium. Next time, I think I'll opt for over easy. The sauce was fantastic though and the portion size was huge even though a half order. The birria benedict was just ok. It was really quite difficult to cut into the english muffin because it was super hard on the bottom. The egg was cooked perfectly though and the flavors were there. To ease off the heaviness, I would order it with salad instead of potatoes. I did enjoy their michelada with modelo. Good stuff. I was visiting from Southern California for the day and am so glad I chose Lucho's for breakfast. All the staff were warm and welcoming, and I happened to chat the most with Kelly. The place was packed, so I sat at a table in the back corner, but she offered me a spot by the window when one opened up. My breakfast burrito was delicious. My conversation with her made it feel like I was talking with a friend in my own neighborhood. Everyone who came in seemed happy and comfortable, just like I was. I can't believe I didn't know about this great brunch place in SF! Out of towners (from Ohio) wanted a breakfast burrito so we went to Lucho's. They changed their minds and ended up getting the Conchinita Pibil Benedict with potatoes and devoured it. I ordered the special- peach pancakes. I ordered 2 and shared them with my family. My daughter said it was the best pancake she has ever had. I agree! The peaches were in the batter and when cooked, they were almost caramelized on the outside. I'm so happy we were finally able to try Lucho's! We frequent Ocean Ave all the time and we finally had some time to stop by to grab breakfast on Sunday morning (10/15) before heading to Stonestown. We arrived around 10 am and there was no wait. Lots of empty tables outside. It's seat yourself - you order at the counter and then receive a number and they will bring the food out to you. The woman working at the front was the sweetest, definitely someone who is very well-versed in customer service. Super professional and very warm. I don't know if she was the owner or a manager, but she was excellent! We ordered the full chilaquiles (no beans) with chorizo, home fries, and bunelos (couldn't get a picture of it - but this was our favorite). Everything we ordered was super tasty! The bunelos hit home for us since we come from Guam, where bunelos dagu is a household staple! Our meals came out piping hot and reached our table within less than 10 minutes of ordering, and I watched them make it while I was trying to get water for myself. I've noticed it from Yelp recently and was surprised to learn they've been open since 2018. We walked in and placed our brunch order at the counter, picked up our waters and found a seat. Lucho's is a smaller eatery where the interior seating is tight but it doesn't lessen the sunny, light and brightness of its interior. The staff alone with Kelly leading the way and helping w/our orders added a lot of cheer and sunshine. She was kind enough to give a small sampling of their coffee, house and Mexican. It was an "OMIGAWD, where have you been all my life!" moment!!!! when the Mexican coffee w/cinnamon, anise, clove, brown sugar & orange zest, WOWWED my mouth! Fortunately we had already put in our food order so I could stay for a bit longer in the clouds savoring the wonderful spices on my palate like fine wine. Seriously! There was one group ahead of me. I should've just ordered a bowl and had that as a meal. Also tried the beef empanadas, $14 for 2. They were large and full of beef but the sauce topping was tad too spicy for me. Great service, they were kind to our group of three despite the place being packed and they let us move indoors when the bees on the patio were bothering us. Eggs Benedict were solid, Linda was healthy but good, and the pumpkin pancakes were unique. We tried the first pumpkin pancakes of the season and they were seasoned well + were pretty sweet so they didn't need much maple syrup. Lucho, the owner customized my order for me because I'm a vegetarian who avoids eggs and there wasn't anything I was feeling from the menu that day. And my recent visit was just as great of an experience as the first time. This time I ordered a pineapple agua fresca and chilaquiles with soyrizo, black beans, and sour cream. We decided to go for brunch on a Sunday. There was 5 of us and we arrived around 945a. We were greeted immediately and asked to sign in. They had a large table opening up soon and asked if we could wait. They gave us menus to look over. We were seated indoors and asked to place our order at the register, then have a seat. We didn't have to wait very long before our food was delivered. We ordered the veggie omelet with potatoes. The veggies were sautéed and the onions caramelized! Delicious! Plus, the in house green salsa to top it off. My son had the Florentine eggs Benedict. He finished every last bit. My other son had the breakfast burrito and opted to add bacon, which was an extra charge of $5.75. It was a good size burrito. He was happy he added the bacon. My husband ordered the Chilaquilles. It comes with one egg over medium. It has good flavor, but he doesn't think he would order it again. The star of the brunch were the peach pancakes!! We ordered a full stack and shared amongst us. Cooked just right. Fresh peaches and fresh whipped cream with the right amount of cinnamon. Yummy! The coffee was smooth and flavorful enough to drink without cream or sugar. We will definitely be returning. I believe the pancake flavors are seasonal, so we'll have to try the other flavors. The wait staff were all nice. They checked in on us and refilled our coffees. The young lady stopped to take our picture when she saw us taking a selfie. That was kind of her. read more
