    Tom yum porridge
    Cicely T.

Worth the hype! I've been here 2x now and both times have been awesome. Really great unique food and amazing customer service. I loved the mango sticky rice French toast and the unique "jook" porridge options on their menu. I've gotten the tom yum and the mushroom one, both savory and comforting. Parking can be a challenge since it's right next to the Muni West Portal transit tunnel but there are residential spots if you are willing to walk a few blocks. There can be a bit of a wait especially on the weekends!! No reservations and they close early so check out their hours and plan accordingly. With that said, it's such a unique spot for brunch and I can't wait to go back!

A new take on fusion brunch! Dropped by for brunch ~10:30am. The Yelp waitlist can only be joined in person, so plan accordingly. The wait wasn't bad as there was only 12 parties ahead of us. After ~30min wait, we were seated, but the waitlist expanded to ~25+ parties by the time we got seated. What we got: - Duck duck ~ The bacon croissant pudding was addicting! A mix of savory, sweet, and eggy, this item was something I kept stealing from someone's plate. The duck leg was decent, but the orange sauce that was warmly spiced overpowered the dish. By the end of the dish, the sauce was too sweet. - Tonkatsu Sandwich Sizzling ~ A new take on a tonkatsu sando. Fluffy bread with crispy juicy pork cutlet paired well with the sauce on the sizzling plate. Kept warm pretty well as we waited for other items! - Softie Benedict ~ aesthetically plated. Two fried soft shell crabs flanked my benedict and provided the dish with a crunch. The Nam Prik Pao aioli with the onions and celery offset the heaviness of the hollandaise sauce and poached egg. Shokupan was a great soft fluffy base for benedict. All in all a decent and refreshing brunch menu with more Asian flavors intertwining the dishes! Would return to try other items on the menu!

Kra Pow Sandwich, Softie Sandwich, Caribbean Pasta, and Walnut Shrimp Waffle

I am not usually a brunch person, but I was really pleased with my experience at Tur because of their variety of savory dishes that trend towards lunchy-ness. We got to Tur around 10:30 am on Sunday, there were 13 parties ahead of us and we waited about 45 minutes before we were seated, which was reasonable. The restaurant is pretty big and has upstairs seating so there was a constant flow of folks leaving and being seated. Service was friendly and we received our food shortly after ordering but the dishes came out one by one so there was a little bit of waiting while everyone's food got to the table. Here's what we ordered: - Softie Scramble (4.5/5): this was my favorite dish but I might be biased because I love soft shell crab! The toast was fluffy and soaked up all the egg yolk and hollandaise. The sauce was tangier than expected and didn't really taste like curry but it still paired well with the perfectly crispy crab! - Walnut Shrimp Waffle (4/5): this was also delicious and my second fav! A little bit of a smaller portion but the shrimp toast is so flavorful and the waffle was nice and crispy. The wasabi flavor was a little confusing to us though. - Pad Kra Pow Sandwich (3.8/5): I really liked the basil flavor of the sandwich and the bread was so soft but I was a little thrown off by the paste-y texture of the beef. - Caribbean Pasta (3.5/5): the seafood and pasta was cooked well and it has a little kick! We were just expecting a little more flavor in the dish. Overall a good experience and I would want to come back to try other dishes and maybe some of their sweets! Street parking was fairly easy to find around the corner on Claremont St.

    Hed (mushroom) jook

New Thai brunch spot in West Portal from the Khao Tiew team! They don't take reservations so be prepared to wait if you come during busy times. It's easier to be seated with a small party, larger parties will have to wait for a lot longer. We came on a weekend at 9:45 and waited 10min to be seated. Not bad but the wait got a lot longer as we were leaving. I got the blueberry latte which was pretty good! For food, we ordered the hed (mushroom jook), the passion fruit & mango sticky French toast and the softie Benedict. The standout dish was definitely the jook! It was flavorful and savory, I want to come back to try their other jooks. The French toast and the softie Benedict were solid but it didn't blow me away. The hot sauce they have on the table is delicious! It's not very spicy, there's a hint of heat but a ton of flavor. Overall a great new addition to the west portal food scene!

We waited on a Friday during their early opening and we did enjoy the food! We waited about 20 minutes on a Friday afternoon. We tried the garden Benedict 7/10 which was just a little bit too plain for us. The mushrooms that were fried were really crispy and tasty! but the kale was overly fried and it was just a huge bite of oil. The avocado toast was average. Also tried the pork belly over toast 8/10 which was super rich. The pork belly was very fatty but still tasty. Our favorite dish

Unique twist to brunch, using Thai flavors. Everything was delicious and the best part was... no wait when we came on a Wednesday morning. My favorite was the shrimp waffle. It had a new perspective to the more common chicken and waffle. Their jook (porridge) was a calmer choice if you're looking for a lighter option.

Loved breakfast here! It was hard to pick which to get but we ended up sharing the classic jook, soft shell Benedict, and passion fruit and mango French toast. Everything blew us away. Came out quick and friendly staff. Came on a Friday around 9:30 and was seated right away!

My friend and I ordered the Softie Benedict, Karaage Jook and the Passionfruit Mango Sticky Rice French Toast. The portions were generous and great for sharing. There were two soft shell crabs and two perfectly cooked eggs in the Benedict. The jook was very tasty and plenty of karaage to go around. The French toast was thick and the passion fruit mango with the creamy coconut syrup was a nice brunch "dessert". Sweet but not in a sickening way. We had enough jook, karaage and French toast to bring home for another meal! The service was excellent. The wait staff was friendly, patient and answered all our questions. We wanted to share and she made great suggestions for which dishes are good for sharing and they brought us extra plates and bowls! The restaurant is bright and spacious - they kept the same layout as Squat and Gobble but the decor is more beachy feeling. This would be a great place to come with friends to catch up and hang out. It gets busy though!

Came here recently for brunch and waited well over 2 hours. Was it worth the 2 hour wait? No, absolutely not. Is the food good and delicious, yes, for the most part. Each dish was executed well and the flavors leaned more toward the sweeter side. Amongst the savory dishes, I really enjoyed the pork belly toast dish which was not too fatty and had the right amount of salt. Too bad it doesn't come with a side and had to pay extra for potatoes. Surprisingly, most items lacked acid and spice. Even their chili oil and sauce on the table weren't spicy. Portion wise, it's SF portions so don't come too hungry unless you're going to order a lot to share. I would recommend coming with a few friends to get to try the various dishes. Overall, a good start to a new brunch addition to the neighborhood. I would personally wait until the hype has gone down to try the food, because it's really not worth the 2 hour wait. There are equally as good, if not better Thai fusion brunch places all over the city. The ambiance is cute, definitely a sea theme. Since they just opened, there's a lot of growing to do. Hopefully they find their groove and improve on some flavors. A tad bit too sweet for me.

Tur is a new Asian fusion breakfast & brunch spot in West Portal. Ordered the Honey Walnut Shrimp & Waffle ($26), the Classic Jook with Pork ($18), and a Not a Matcha drink (Iced Pandan Creamy with Milk) ($8). Total is $56 after tax but before tip, so it's definitely on the pricier side. The Honey Walnut Shrimp & Waffle was my favorite. The sweet-and-savory combination worked really well. The Not a Matcha drink was refreshing, and the Classic Jook with Pork was decent comfort food. The restaurant has a beachy vibe with turtle-themed decor throughout the space. The server mentioned that "Tur" in Thai means "you" in English, which was a fun detail. Spoke with two diners at different tables, and both enjoyed their meals very much. The location is convenient--right on the corner and steps from Muni's West Portal Station. Overall, the food was solid. While the prices are on the higher side, Tur offers a unique experience.

Tur is a new addition to the West Portal neighborhood by the same folks behind Khao Tiew. We went in around 8 am on a Friday morning and there were other patrons but no significant wait. The theme of the restaurant is turtles and the beach, and it's very clean, well decorated, bright and large inside. If you're able to get a reservation or brave the wait, this is a great spot for groups. I got the berry shot coffee (very sweet so wouldn't get it again personally), the classic pork jook and we ordered a passion fruit sticky rice French toast for the table. Everything was very solid. Friends ordered the soft shell crab Benedict which had a generous portion of crab. 4.5/5 overall - it is good but not as much of a wow factor as khao tiew imo. Rounded up for great service and the fact that this bustling restaurant is a really nice addition to the west side of the city.

Another great addition to West Portal! Breakfast with an Asian flair is the name of the game here. I ordered the Softie Benedict--a soft-shell crab fried to a crispy exterior, served on an extra-thick slice of shokupan (Japanese milk bread) with curry-topped hollandaise sauce and a side of greens. I loved everything about it. The contrasting textures and flavors made it feel like a well-balanced meal. Not my order, but I did sneak a couple of bites of the Satay and Eggs. This dish is essentially an Asian take on steak and eggs. It features steak-cut beef with satay sauce and eggs on shokupan toast, served with a side of greens. It instantly transported me back to the streets of Singapore, where I had my first authentic taste of satay skewers. The sauce was divine and about as authentic as you can get on this side of the world. If I were to nitpick, the beef could have been a bit more tender. I also tried the Not A Matcha drink because I'm a fan of pandan. The pandan flavor tasted natural--I'm not sure whether it was made from fresh pandan, but it definitely didn't have the taste of the powdered versions. It was subtle, though; I would have liked it a little stronger, but that's just personal preference. Overall, Tur got me excited about its menu. I'll be back sooner rather than later.

Using the yelp waitlist system before the holiday rush meant getting our seats at the counter without much wait. The food scored 5/5 on two of the items and not so much on the third. But I would come back again without thinking twice. Favorite dish was the karaage chicken and waffles. Nicely done. The with poached eggs also amazing. The pork belly missed for me. Not savory not sweet. Just meh. Service was on point. And the atmosphere was great! JYW recommends !

Her serving team was the Kentucky Derby of thoroughbreds racing to place the silverware, condiments, used dishes, and refilled coffee going. The food tasted Michelin level. I can SAY that because we had eaten dinner at an actual Michelin rated restaurant the night before. (No Yelp rating needed because they ABSOLUTELY deserved it= NARI) I had a FRIED French Toast BECAUSE it cannot sit waiting to be served. And even though we had been tended to by 4 different people at the start of the meal, we had to flag someone down for the check. The restaurant wasn't packed, so it was a bit odd.
