She was very sweet and she checked on us often. I couldn't decide what to get. I asked for her recommendation between 2 options from their $15 2 course deal. I ordered the fried chicken per her recommendation and enjoyed it! The chicken was both crispy and tender and I loved that 2 sides (mashed potatoes and veggies) came with it. The gravy for the fried chicken was not too flavorful but nothing Tabasco didn't fix for me, haha. A dessert also came with my meal. I chose the new chocolate cake option. It was a chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream; it was pretty good. Parts of the cake from the bottom of the pan was kind of tough though. You get to choose from 4 options) ...but she couldn't help us so the take-out guy answered them...but turns out his answers weren't all that accurate...kinda confusing. I ended up ordering a chicken bowl which was okay...(not part of the deal) my mom DID get the deal Meal / fried chicken. She said the mashed potatoes were meh and the veggies were not seasoned at all but the fried chicken was really good. The biscuits they bring to the table were not fluffy or all that tasty...but if you put enough of the yummy sweet butter in them..they kinda work. We had a great experience here at this Lucilles! The food was great as always. We ordered onion straws, chicken ceasar salad, chimichuri steak, and meat combos. We also had peach lemonade snd the new watermelon spritzer. All were tasty. The only minor complaint was that the chicken on the Caesar salad was dryyyyy, but the flavor was still good! The service was great! We were greeted sweetly and seated quickly. Our waitress Kaylia was amazing. She continuously checked on us and made sure everything was perfect. We did not wait very long but when the host (girl) arrived, she gave us a weird welcome. She was annoyed about something. She wasnt inviting and wasnt very friendly. Just agitated. She was probably having a bad day. Who knows but it showed. Seated and greeted. Ordered from the Happy Hour menu. Ordered me a Michelob ultra draft pint beer and my friend ordered a cocktail. We also ordered a Nashville Spicy Chicken, Gumbo bowl and fried Okra. Our drinks came first. The michelob ultra was on fire! The cocktail was great as well. Our okra appetizer came out 2nd and 10 minutes after that our main entrees came out 3rd. There are no complaints about the food. Everything was delicous. I would definitely come back here for happy hour. The prices are great and the food is delicious. The ambiance at this location was very comfortable. Big Kudos and shout out to Trinity our waitress! Came here because my boyfriend was craving meat & surprisingly has never been to Lucille's. We were seated right away. Our server was nice and came by every now and then to check on us during our meal. We started off with the Southern Favorites Appetizer Platter. It had Southern Fried Dill Pickles, Lucille's Onion Straws, Smokehouse Cheese Curds, Jalapeño Cheddar Sausage, Spinach & Cheese Dip, crispy tortilla chips with creole mustard sauce and BBQ ranch for dipping. We both enjoyed the onion straws and spinach & cheese dip. The cheese curds are good when it's nice and hot, while the cheese is still soft and melty. Once it gets cold, the cheese curds get hot. The pickles IMO were too sour (and I like pickles). The sausage was good. Not too spicy but it had a kick to it. I got the Lunch Build Your Own BBQ Pick 2 - Bbq Chicken & Pulled Pork with a side of Mac & cheese. The pull pork was dry even with the sauce on top. And the Mac and cheese looked so bland like it's been sitting in a cafeteria waiting to be served. My chicken was nice and juicy. I got the leg and thigh. It had lots of flavor to it. I did an add on of the Ceasar salad. For me, it was overdressed and had too much of the garlic breadcrumbs on the top, which got soggy right away because of the overdressing. If anything they should have served the dressing on the side. My boyfriend got the Lunch Build Your Own Bbq Pick 3 - Bbq chicken, Tri tip, & Brisket with a side of sautéed vegetables. He enjoyed the tri tip. But his brisket looked super dry even with the au jus. The chicken looked good as I think it was the other 1/2 of my chicken. So he got the breast. But it kind of dry as well as the breast part can get dry. He enjoyed his vegetables but it didn't look appealing to me. The biscuits they serve on the house are good. I'm a longtime many decades customer and fan of Lucille's it's truly one of my favorite bbq restaurants in Long Beach. On a cool day in California what's a girl to do when she doesn't want to cook she's orders up some good food. I hit up the search bar on Yelp and see endlessly possibilities of a dip into deliciousness for bbq I choose Lucille's and here's my take on the food. I order up something different from my usual a full rack of baby back ribs extra spicy bbq sauce baked beans cornbread and greens. 10/10 I chose gumbo an order of biscuits with apple butter just because and my dessert choice is banana pudding. Gumbo It's very different than the kind I've eaten this one has a thick and rich sauce with chicken tiny bites of sausages and shrimp it's well seasoned and was absolutely delicious not traditional but oh soo good. 9/10 Rice Steamed and fluffy and sprinkled with gumbo fillet over rice I asked for this on the side. 8/10 Biscuits With Apple Butter. Tender thick and delicious biscuits sprinkled with sugar and smeared with apple butter on top its so good. Apple Butter is delicious I'm soo glad they sent extra. I placed the leftover biscuits in small baggies putting them in my freezer to enjoy on another day they freeze and reheat perfectly. 8/10 Banana Pudding Layered with a layer of cookie crumble tasty banana pudding sliced bananas and creamy real whipped cream there were only two pieces of sliced bananas. A lot pudding whipped cream the only missing component is bananas the bank pudding flavor is even more delicious after it settled the next day. For $8.99 I'd prefer to make it at home however the flavor is good so I'll kick it up to 8/10 If bbq is what you crave I can definitely vouch for Lucille's this place is legit well staffed and clean the drinks are fire and the food is always bomb. FYI I don't see green or fried fish on the menu anymore so that is the only bummer or complaint hopefully they put it back on the menu soon.. When I got home I noticed how organized my food was. It was hot, delicious and so much food! I decided to come back after the manager of this location reached out. Tonight we wanted bbq and thought let's go to Lucille's. Hubby ordered half rack of babyback ribs with bbq beans and picnic potato salad and he said his ribs were dried out and the best part of his meal was the potato salad. I ordered the 9 oz tri tip which is supposedly cooked all day, but mine was RAW!!! and I tried to microwave it and some turned out hard and other pieces cooked more. Some pieces were hard fat or something. I was so grossed out that I didn't eat it and will be contacting the management for a refund. The watermelon looked white and should have never been put in my order, but the manager Andrew is taking care of that. Unfortunately, I didn't have my whole meal unboxed yet when I contacted him. I picked up an order of 3 meats combo (Baby Back ribs, Spare Ribs, and Beef ribs) for about $61 bucks. It feeds at least 3 individuals. But I was very disappointed with the sides. Went here for Thanksgiving. I didn't expect it to be so crowded. Luckily we found seats at the bar. However there were people waiting for a long time. I ordered the Thanksgiving special with turkey and ham. It definitely isn't the same as having this at home with family but we were here... the mac n cheese was honestly not my favorite.. In the nicest way possible, Trinity the bartender acts as if she got pulled from the host stand. She has no bartending etiquette whatsoever, never is nice or personable and is very VERY VERY slow. Most times I sit at the bar without getting a drink offer for at least 10 minutes, never get offered biscuits or hot towels after eating. I have to ask for the bill right away and close out because she takes that long to complete any task. The attention to detail is non existent and she misses the basics marks every time. She sees me walk in but her conversations with other guests, servers and even the managers never come to a pause nor does she say that she'll be right with me. Selected the sliced brisket, jalapeño cheddar sausage, and paid extra for the beef ribs. We got 3 beef ribs which were fairly large. It was good, but it wasn't as tender compared to other BBQ places I've been to. Japaleno cheddar sausage was delicious. Would definitely get this again. Perfect amount of kick and flavor. Very juicy. Unfortunately, they forgot to pack the brisket and BBQ sauce however they made up for it by compensating our entire plate. Great customer service! Thank you! For the sides, I got the potato salad and mashed potato with biscuits and apple butter. The biscuits and apple butter were amazing. The butter was slightly sweet and flavorful. For our main dishes, we ordered: Pick 2 Combo: Pulled Chicken, Half BBQ Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, and Macaroni & Cheese, Southern Fried Chicken: Chicken breast dipped in buttermilk, breaded, deep-fried, topped with Grandpa's pan gravy, served with garlic mashed potatoes and sautéed seasonal vegetables. The half BBQ chicken was cooked perfectly--tender, juicy, and flavorful. The mashed potatoes were also very good and well-seasoned. However, the pulled chicken and macaroni and cheese were my least favorite items. The pulled chicken wasn't bad, but the BBQ sauce was a bit too sweet for my taste; if it were less sweet, it would have been much better. As for the macaroni and cheese, it really just needs a new recipe--it didn't do much for me flavor-wise. On the other hand, the Southern fried chicken was excellent. It was crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and the pan gravy added great depth of flavor. The sautéed vegetables were cooked perfectly and seasoned well, making this dish a standout. Overall: Great service, a welcoming atmosphere, and some very strong menu items. Came here for a work lunch today with a party of 7 and it was a pretty good experience. Drawbacks - The seating arrangement was very odd - it was a corner booth/banquette with two tables in an L shape. Which meant anyone sitting on the inside of the L would have their backs to half the group. I don't know why they didn't seat us at a long traditional table? They were out of watermelon, rib tips, and corn on the cob, none of which was anything we wanted so no issues. "Cracked Out" Deviled Eggs had way too many toppings. There's something to be said for simplicity. Positives - Our server Samantha was great. She was efficient, knowledgeable and when she didn't know the answer, she went and asked. Food came out quickly and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. They have a good lunch special $17.99 where you can choose two meats and a side. Several people ordered that and added an extra side for $4.99. I got the Pulled Pork sandwich Memphis style (with mustard slaw) with Mac n'Cheese and Corn Pudding. We went around 2:40 on a weekday so it was not too busy & quiet. The servers were very attentive, two of them greeting us as soon as we walked in & seated us immediately. They had guitars signed by BB King on the walls - which my husband noticed right away. Overall decor is very well done & nicer than other Lucille's. Our server, Dennis, was very welcoming & accommodating. Their lunch menu os very reasonably priced & portion was large for me. I got the shrimp plate & my husband got the thrusday special = brisket & beignets. We enjoyed the main course as well as the sides we got - Cole slaw, Mac & cheese, potato salad, and fries. Three beignets were served but they seemed a bit overdone but we're still good. We will come back to this location if we want to go to Lucille's as the service was much quicker & welcoming than other locations. I came here for lunch for a birthday celebration and it was better than expected. We had 12pm reservations on a Sunday for 8 people. Although we had reservations it was kinda unnecessary because the restaurant wasn't very full. However, they didn't let us sit until half of our party had arrived. Once we got seated we were given their popular biscuits with some apple butter. You cannot go wrong with those. I noticed they had lunch specials for everyday. They also have Monday-Thursday happy hour. For lunch I opted for their 3 meat combo with 1 side. I got their ribs, brisket, and sausage with some slaw. The meats were good although a little on the dry side. The brisket was probably my favorite out of the three. The sausage was also pretty good and I liked that it was spicy. My coleslaw was also good. I also had a taste of their country fried steak which was decent for the lunch price. I think everyone was pretty pleased with their food. The inside of this place is very large and is great for large parties. I like that they had lots of large booths that sat groups over 10. It makes talking easier. This location also has a nice huge bar. I would definitely come back for happy hour since it's not too far from my work. This place has gone down hill! We used to eat here all the time and everything used to be great. Not sure if this location is under new management or not, but the customer service is terrible. They no longer allow you to place takeout orders over the phone. If you call them, they will just text you a link to place your own order online. Super inconvenient. In addition, they also told me that online orders only come with 1 free biscuit. If you want more than that, you have to buy a dozen or more. Ridiculous! Will not be back to this location! read more
