The place is hidden in the back of a plaza. Its decor is super cute. We ordered the duo chicken rice and the drunken noodle. The Thai chicken were kind of dry, the fried one is a bit better than the boiled one imho and you definitely need to add the recommended sauces for flavor. The soup was good and rice was on the harder side. The drunken noodle was very drunk with oil lol. Both were honestly 3.5 to us but extra 0.5 for the succulents around the restaurants!
Review 75/365 Day Challenge review Came here on a Friday afternoon for lunch w my hubs & our babygirl. Celebrating my Birthday/along w our 15th Wedding Anniversary. 07.03.26 Was were seated right away when we got here. What we ordered ~ Lucky Gai is seared crying Tiger w a specialty sauce they have to dip the sliced up steak in. The marination for the meat was really yummy and tasty. ~ Beef Fried Rice tastes like every good thai fried rice should taste like. ~ Kow Mun Gai Duo with both Fried & Poached chicken in Mighty size. Came here specifically for this and boy i just say. It's pretty scrumptious. Definitely recommended. I crave for this thai dish every now and then. It's a thai staple dish to enjoy even everyday. Comes w a small chicken soup broth that's in a cute teacup size. Accompanied by 4 style if dipping sauces to your liking. The chicken Either it's the poached or fried was tender. LOVE LOVE how the dipping sauce for the Kow Mun Gai bottles was labeled which helped tremendously. ~ Thai iced tea tasted a bit off. Like it taste a bit plastic. Their thai tea seems to be in a dispenser behind the counter. I wonder if that had a role into the taste a bit. It's not as bad as where it's not drinkable but definitely leaves somewhat of a plastic taste after each time you Gulp the drink down. I was gonna tell Ryan but the restaurant was a tad bit busy during lunch. Along Ryan went in the back because another associated came and end up assisting with servicing the other guests along close out our tab to pay. Owner Ryan was really Social and awesome at greeting us along checking in occasionally if everything was fine and if we needed anything. He seems to be the only associate tending to all of the guests. Which was pretty good for about 6/7 other tables with a couple or a group dining in. They have a great amount of wooden table set up right outside the restaurant. Their restaurant is a Fox mascot which i thought was pretty cute. You see Foxes around the entire restaurant including in the restroom even Ryan had a cute button up shirt w the fox character on it. Lots of parking right outside the restaurant. They have a lot of daily deals/promos. Including student gets 10% off and Especially on your birthday/1 day b4 or 1 day afterwards, free entree up to $ 16 is free for the Birthday Celebrant. ONLY THING I didn't like with the atmosphere was there were a lot of flies in the restaurant. The entrance door to the restaurant was open and we were one of the tables near the entrance. It even bothered another guests and his kids. With flies flying around inside the restaurant was unpleasant and hard to enjoy your meals dining in because we were busy Choo~ ing the flies away. I even saw it on the kids and their parents face w the fly flying constantly around their table. If i could've deducted a half star on yelp. This would really be my concern and issue w our dining in experience.
The location is a little bit tucked away but definitely worth the find! Just a Mom and Pop shop with the nicest staff. Authentic flavors and great portions. The Thai tea is sweet and strong. Highly recommend if you go during lunch. Lol Pad see ew had great wok hei & fresh ingredients. The wings were crispy and delicious. Looking forward to coming back soon! Chang beer from Thailand is refreshing with the meal. I will have to look for this in the supermarkets!
I got the Hainan chicken dish poached and fried. It was a great combination of both and I really enjoyed it. This was the first time I ever tried Hainan chicken and it was great. I can't wait to try their other dishes on their menu.
Took me a while, but I finally found my new go-to Thai spot in oc (plus Hainan chicken!). I ordered the crispy Hainan chicken, edamame, dumplings, and mango sticky rice, everything was super fresh and well-seasoned. The sauces that come with the chicken are a standout (pro tip: mix them all together... you won't regret it). The tamarind sauce was also great on its own. Service was amazing; warm, welcoming, and it honestly felt like eating at someone's home with their family. The location is a little hard to find, but that just makes it feel like a hidden gem
I'm a big fan of this place!! It's located in an odd spot right under the bridge. When you turn into it, you'll be a bit confused, but it's perfect! Quiet location without a lot of foot traffic unless it's restaurant patrons. We always park right in front. There is limited seating and it's best to call for big parties a head of time. The chairs are cute and the interior is captivating; it feels just like home. Whenever I come, I order the Hainan chicken combo. It has the crispy chicken and the poached chicken with a bed of garlic rice or garlic noodles. You can also make your own combinations of sauces right next to that table. To compliment my meal, I usually order their beer or get the lychee martini. It's super cute and refreshing! The workers here are always polite and upbeat. They don't bother you and are very mindful of remind you your needs. Again, I love coming here. Can't wait to make the trip back!
Great location with lots of parking in front. There are plenty of seatings both indoors and outdoors. Good for big group. We came around 9pm and there are plenty of seatings. The service was fast and courteous. We got the yellow curry and the duo kow mun gai. Both were very delicious. The chicken is fried to perfection, not too greasy, but super flavorful. We also got 2 drinks, Thai tea and Lemonade Thai tea, tho they're alright in my opinion.
I feel like every family has their cozy go-to Thai restaurant that they absolutely swear by because it's what they grew up with. For my family, it's Jumpa Thai in Garden Grove, CA. While I love, love, love all the amazing memories we've made there, I recognize that you can have love in your heart for more than one Thai restaurant. I encourage everyone to get out of their comfort zone and continue to explore new spots. You never know -- you might find your new fave!!!! And if not, that's okay because you're still supporting small biz :^) So now onto why I sought out Luck Gai Cafe specifically -- one of my best friends has been complaining about his stomach hurting, and I suggested we get hainan chicken for dinner. It's like when your dog is sick and you have to feed them a "clean" meal like steamed chicken and rice, LMAO..... and naturally, it's what I thought my dawg needed. **Hainan chicken** We got a large poached chicken, and I personally feel like it was portioned for one person instead of two. I think I would order just white meat without chicken skin next time since that's my preference, but my friend really liked the dish and he's been here multiple times. It was my first time at Luck Gai and it made realize that I'm more into Chinese/Vietnamese Hainan chicken. I was bummed that I didn't get pickled cabbage or the usual sauces (chili-ginger sauce and ginger-scallion oil) with my meal. To make things clear: the sauces they offered weren't bad by any means. I was just looking for something different and this is my trivial take. I would probably still order the dish again in the future because the rice and soup were delicious. **Pad Thai** I think it's easier to order bad pad thai than it is to find good. It's just a fact of life. On our end, w ise got lucky with the Luck Gai's pad thai being absolutely scrumptious. The noodles were cooked au dente, sauce ratio was perfect, and shrimps were juicy. What more can you ask for? I would order this dish again, and probably also try other recommended items on their menu such as their pad see ew.
Coming in atmosphere was good aroma of spices fill the room as i make my order. Server came with water first and greeted me as i order the tom yum soup with rice food came out around 20min but came steamy hot. Restaurant was a little busy around 12. For sure can understand why, food came out great.
Was curious to try this place since it's very highly rated, but let's see how it compares to other hainan chicken restaurants from the 626... First walking in, it's a very small quaint shop. I was unsure what type of service this restaurant had, there wasn't a "please wait to be seated" sign or anything, so I assume you just order at the cashier and pick it up to your table or something. I was greeted by the cashier and was told I could sit anywhere since there wasn't really anyone in the restaurant. She handed me the menu and then... it was a long period of time whether I was suppose to wait for her to come and I order, or am I supposed to just go up there myself.... So I just went ahead and ordered at the cashier and everything, no big deal. It didn't take too long for my order to be prepared. She actually handed me utensils and my meal to the table, and handed my food as well. So I guess it probably was a sit-down service...? lol I got the mighty combo, which I wanted to try both the poach chicken and the fried chicken. I like how they offered a variety of sauces and listed which tasted better with what. I also liked how they added a small side salad and soup, which is a pretty nice set. Now onto the chicken, the rice was pretty enjoyable, I wish it was softer though. The poached chicken was kinda mid, nothing really too special. It also had cartilage in every piece so not sure if that was normal... The fried chicken tasted better, has more unique textures to eating it, but the batter itself gets boring the more you eat it, or at least it just tastes cheap. I ended up enjoying the fried chicken one more, but honestly for the quality compared to other places I had in the 626, it's not that comparable. It's probably just highly rated around this area, but the meal was just okay. In the end, service was pretty slow. I saw others waiting for their order and they feel like they were just dreading to be there waiting for their food. I ended up just going up to the counter and get my own to-go box and packed it. Service was pretty slow and questionable, but it's only one worker on the floor. They really should have another person helping her if this was a sit down restaurant.
An absolute must!!! 100% authentic and 200% delicious. It's owned by a husband and wife, she runs the back of the house as head chef and he runs the front of the house. The wife is originally from Thailand and they seem to visit often, so not only is the food out of this world but he can tell you everything you want to know about it, from the protein that pairs best with a dish to how it differs from similar dishes in Asia. The ambiance is inviting, authentic, and a tad quirky, just like the service, but in the best possible way. They have patio seating also. 8 of us went so we got to try a little bit of almost everything. Every bite of every dish was outstanding. I couldn't stop eating my friend's yellow curry. I'm definitely getting that next time. I got the Foxy Kiss with chicken which was served with rice and a fried egg. Amazing! I honestly can't wait to go back. Our friends are regulars there, and now we will be too.
I did a cookie decorating class next door a few weeks ago with my wife and sister-in-law and I snuck in here to order food before the class started and the food was bomb. I can't remember what I ordered but my sister also ordered dumplings and I got a milk tea and it was so good! The restaurant offered a mini discount for the class next door and they even delivered it to us! Lol I call that excellent customer service. The restaurant itself was clean and nice-they had tables outside or inside to eat!
A hole in the wall type place! Their restaurant in tucked in a narrow business plaza near the big street. They have outdoor seating that allows dogs which is really nice. My server was really friendly and was a jokester! I didn't catch his name but he was very friendly. Portions were decent and I liked that they give you a whole tray of sauce per person so you can have as much sauce as you want. The chicken itself was very clean tasting but I wish they had a skin-less option!
Been eyeing this place for a while but hadn't had the chance to try it till I was called into the Anaheim clinic to work so of course, I jumped at the chance to try it!! I had to order on DoorDash since it was too far for me to drive. Ordered Mighty Combo $16.95 Taste was 10/10 (even when it was room temp, it was still REALLY GOOD!) Portion wise was small for the price but maybe it was because I ordered to go I would def come back to see what else they have to offer :)) read more
Hidden Gem!! My friend and I met here for lunch and loved everything about our visit. We got a table outside in the shade and the server came take our orders. The many has a lot of variety and so many things to choose from. We ordered the puffy cream cheese, the shrimp tempura, and spicy yellow curry. Everything had a lot of flavor and medium curry was not really spicy. The service was great and the prices are fair. We are looking forward to trying other items next time! read more

I highly recommend eating here! Seems to be a family owned business, so the owners of the restaurant are super friendly and comedic haha. They check in often and like to crack jokes with their customers lol. Also the food is delicious, it is super flavorful and rich!! read more
*UPDATE* Parking is never busy, who am I kidding this is OC! This place has also made it into my rotation for weekday lunches/dinners. I LOVE their POACHED CHICKEN & SPICY EDAMAME. The other apps aren't that good to me, but this review is subjective. I will continually come back for their HAINAN CHICKEN. Owner is really nice and makes the ginger sauce from scratch. Keep up the good work. Really cheap pricing for the quality and amount of food. read more

My family and I tried this place today, we tried the papaya salad a pork dish, soup and the signature chicken dishes, the chicken dishes were really good and the side sauce flavors were enjoyable, the salad was extremely salty we couldn't enjoy it at all, my daughter said she kind of liked it. The service is ok they were fairly attentive and friendly, i enjoyed the visual atmosphere of the restaurant, nice colors and inviting but very humid and hot a bit too overwhelming to feel comfortable, we felt a bit suffocated. To end in a good note, try the chicken dishes and soup poached and fried they are excellent i highly recommend the sauces with them as well and the rice was perfect!! read more

Came here because we're in the area passing by. The service was mellow but great, because everyone always checked in on us even though it was a packed house inside. They did their best every time and that's how it should be. Kudos for that. The food however, took the longest. The fried chicken combo platewas great with great crisp and came out fast. But the pad Thai noodle came out much much later by the time my wife almost finished her combo plate. I noticed other tables had the same problem if you ordered something other than the chickens. Not the server's fault, it happens. The pad Thai was "wetter and saucier" than what I'm used to having but still good. read more

Their chicken rice dish here is really delicious and they have different sauces for you to enjoy it with. I was excited to see that they have boat noodles but it can be a hit and miss.. Okay real talk, most of these reviews are positive because people got free food for writing reviews. The really good things about this place is the server/host. Dude was super chill and honest and even fixed our bill when we got overcharged during happy hour. And if you plan on drinking here, dude hooks you up with more shots than you ask for. Now the negatives, food is below mid. I got their combo and the chicken was cooked at least but no flavor and I know that the sauce is what has flavor but the sauce lacked flavor too and there was a whole piece of ginger just in my rice. The lucky bai beef was good minus the msg literally sprinkled on top and some being questionable with how it was cooked, ours was raw and the soup was loaded with msg and literally just tasted like pho. The chef back there has no clue what they are doing and when she brings it out, she puts it at the end of the table so you have to get up just to put it in front of yourself. The dude saved the dinner with his hospitality but im sorry that food sucked, hope quality is better because based on what I had, Id rather eat mcdonalds. read more

We make the drive out here once in awhile because I crave their drunken noodles! It's so unique and saucy/flavorful compared to traditional drunken noodles. You can choose spice levels from 1-5. The combo fried chicken and steamed chicken is sooo good too. It's served with 4 different sauces, a ginger rice, small soup (broth), and small salad. Highly recommend both dishes! There's ample parking, a restroom, and good service. read more

Got a to go order on 9/24/25. I ordered a pad thai and found an egg shell in it. I probably ate some of it and didn't know before finding pieces in there. I trashed the food because I didn't know if there was more egg shells in there but I didn't want to take the chance. Its a shame because the food here tastes great. I've gotten their hanian chicken rice before and that was fine. Customer service was good and employees here are friendly. read more
We came here on a Saturday night and it was busy! Luckily it wasn't too bad of a wait and we got seated in about 20 minutes. They were understaffed that night but our server was amazing. He really took the time to answer our questions and was super attentive to us as well as the other tables. Absolutely delicious! Strangely enough, I was craving chicken rice since I haven't had it in a while. Considering this is a Thai/Asian fusion restaurant, I wasn't sure what to expect. Even if I came in with expectations, this certainly surpassed them. I had the mighty combo, which gave me both boiled chicken as well as fried chicken. That combined with 3 sauces made it an absolute joy to consume. The flavors popped and rice was fragrant and complemented the dish well. Definitely a great spot for some hainan chicken! read more

My husband and I are big fans of Luck Gai! The poached and fried Hainan chicken is some of the best I've had (I also only see the poached version usually so theirs is unique) and none of their other dishes have disappointed either. We've tried their curry, noodle dishes, papaya salad, and mango sticky rice. Everything always tastes fresh and flavorful. Not only that, the service has always been warm and attentive. I really like this restaurant, but today was disappointing. I ordered a young coconut through DoorDash and noticed mold on the outside of the coconut shell.This made it feel unsafe to drink. For the price, I expected better quality control. Hopefully this is something they can improve moving forward read more

I'm sad to have to write this review but the food this time was horrible. I previously gotten the crispy hainan chicken and it was good so got it again this time. But this time there was like 4 slices of chicken and it was undercooked. The batter was not cooked through so there was mushy uncooked batter that I basically scrape off the chicken. The chicken was also not cook through so it was very tough and hard and I didn't dare to eat near the center that looked undercooked. Overall, the worse meal I ever had and I had to throw most of it away since the meat was super fatty and uncooked. read more

I've been here a few times and it's good eats. It's next door to a cookie class I like to take so it's convenient for a quick bite. The staff is friendly and the restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating. It's nicely decorated as well. Things tried: - tofu pad se ew: first time I tried it - it was so good, that I got it this trip as well. Sadly it was a tad burned and not as good. - mighty combo: it must've been good - my friend scarfed it down. Not even a brain of rice was left We received a complimentary veggie egg rolls too. These was cooked to perfection and yummy! All in all a nice Thai spot in north oc . Just wish my pad se ew was as good this time as last time. But I will give it another try. read more

So happy I found this gem on Yelp! I love how they have a combo of crispy and original hainan chicken - you get the best of both worlds. But I chose to get all fried, I love my greasy foods lol. It's nice how there are thai options, I am a tom kha soup lover. The pork poppers were yummy, reminded me of popcorn chicken. I can't wait to try all their other dishes. It's a small restaurant, but staff is super friendly and the food is yummy! Definitely worth a try. read more
Really cute casual little spot in Fullerton! We ordered the Panang Curry with chicken and brown rice and the hainan chicken. The curry was your standard panang curry, chicken was not dry, the curry sauce had a nice flavor and the dish came with a decent amount of veggies. The hainan chicken also came with 4 sauces in containers with labels with pairing suggestions. Subtracting a star because I feel like it could be a bit cleaner inside. We were seated near the takeout counter and there were cobwebs all over the plants. The sauce boxes with the hainan chicken also looked a little ..fingerprint-y. But, if you are in the mood for some Thai/asian fusion around Anaheim, this is a good spot! read more

This rating is solely based on the outrageous customer service we were given when we dined here. As someone who also works in the service industry, I understand where it can be frustrating when clients come in an hour before closing- that I truly, truly understand. With that being said, we came in 45 minutes before closing (which I already feel bad for doing, but we were hungry and already in the area- plus we have had this place bookmarked for a while), and the young girl and guy who were working seemed reluctant to even greet us or offer us a table. We sat down, and we waited a a bit for them to come up to us, and they kind of just tossed the menu at the table and took our order. We didn't get waters until right before the food came out which was fine, but every time I would say thank you to the two workers, they would flat out ignore me and give me attitude. I completely understand how they were feeling as I have been on the flip side of the situation before, where I simply did not want to serve people during the last hour before closing, I get it. But this was probably the worst service I have experienced in a while, and I honestly just wanted to eat a meal really quick and get out of their hair. We only ended up ordering one item and a drink to share in order to be considerate towards the workers, and the food was fine, it wasn't the problem. The combo we ordered comes with a cucumber salad and a cup of chicken broth. When I looked around the platter for the soup, I see an empty bowl with nothing but pepper and cilantro in it, which is honestly comical at this point. The cucumbers were bitter but the chicken in general was solid. The sauces were also good. We only took a few bites of the food and did not end up finishing. I walked up to the counter to ask for the check and a family actually came to dine in after us, so I am sure that the two workers were most definitely not happy with that. While asking for the check, I brought the empty soup cup to ask them if there was supposed to be soup in there, in which the worker laughs a bit and says "oh yea did you still want that?" Some common decency would have been slightly appreciated, but that's okay because I probably wont be returning to this establishment. Just to be clear, this review has nothing to do with the owners or the food, I was just deeply disappointed in the lack of respect and the uncooperative attitude at such a seemingly high rated business on yelp. read more

Ordered the mighty poached chicken Love that it is dark meat chicken. It comes with garlic chicken rice. 5/5 Chicken-Great portion and very tender and flavorful Rice- garlicky but yummy. I like the Singapore style chicken rice better but this is very good too! They have plenty of hot sauces (I didn't use any/ it doesn't need any) Got a free coconut drink with yelp check-in- delicious! 5/5 (I love fresh coconut) If I'm in the area, I'd definitely visit this place again! After a day of learning for a work thing we needed a little pick me up. My friend recommended this place and the Kow Mun Gai little combo. It consisted of poach chicken and friend chicken, a cucumber carrot salad, garlic rice and an assortment of sauces. I was skeptical on the poached chicken but it was pretty good. I did not like the flimsy skin but easily removed. The friend chicken was very crispy and delicious. The sauces were fun to try. The salad had a delicious dressing and paired well with the chicken. Staff was helpful in giving explanation and the small restaurant had a few patrons enjoying their meals. read more

Looking for something to eat before heading to the brewery and saw this thai place. Pretty hidden from the street and looked fairly new when approaching. Loved how they had outside seating surrounded with plants and trees making each table having their own privacy. We ate inside and it was spacious and we decided to eat at the bar window seating. We decided to get soup and I didnt want something too sour so opted for their Tom Kha soup, coconut base soup. Not too bad. Also got their Wings of Gai, which had great flavor and perfect with rice since it's very saucey! Grilled mini meatlogs- such a funny name, but also good and very saucey. perfect with rice also Just munched on these and took the rest togo home and they were still good the next day as left overs! Service was very attentive. Our wings came out undercooked. They took it back and recooked it for us but also deducted the ones we already open, which were undercooked so we didnt even eat.. but they took it off our bill which was very nice of them to do. I really want to come back to try their Kow Mun Gai- hanian chicken thai style! Several people were ordering their signature dish. Need to try it. read more

Yes, there is outdoor seating available and there are no heaters. About 2 tables that seat about 4 people. 1 table sat 6 people.
