After a tequila fueled 4th of July weekend with our good friends in AZ we popped in to Lulus for bring us back to life! The AZ taco was the bomb with that guac and fire sauce... A couple of AL pastor street tacos and a cheese enchilada rounded out our meal and put us back in business. The place is family owned and operated! They got a great story and the food is legit. I ordered a shredded beef enchilada and hard carne asada taco combo plate with beans only. When I opened the container, it had a funky smell. I also saw I received a soft shredded beef taco and cheese enchilada plate with rice only. I tried a bite of the taco - which wasn't bad, but not what I ordered. I tried the enchilada and had to spit it out. It was like trying to eat a week old sock from my teenaged son. I also ordered a "stuffed" quesadilla and got a plain cheese one which was kid sized. It was very disappointing to say the least. Even if the food was good, it's extremely small portioned. Don't waste your time with this place unless you like getting ripped off and like the taste of crap. Will never order from again. read more

Went here cause it was walking distance and I wanted a breakfast burrito Not a good decision, the burritos were greasy, the seasoning was non existent, the eggs were over cooked, browned and the same shape as the pan (not scrambled) The toppings were not quality either, the pickled carrots hadn't been properly skinned and still had brown edges/ dirt on them Should have taken pictures but my girl and I both felt queasy on the walk back home. I don't leave one star reviews often, but she threw up when we got back. Would not recommend. read more

I love me an authentic Mexican restaurant. Saw this gem while getting X-Rays done. I got the 2 taco plate, Breakfast plate and Albondigas soup. Clean, sanitized and such a welcoming place. My food smells SO good and my horchata tastes amazing. I will be coming back. They make Tamales by the dozen!!! They just ask that you pre order at least 3 hours ahead. What?! Lulus is our favorite Mexican restaurant. The ambience factor won't blow you away, but it's as good or better than other smaller taco shops. The food is excellent. At first the prices seem a little high for a fast-casual style taco shop, but you can taste the quality in the food. And I love the style and preparation of their food. read more

Worst service and food. We ordered burritos with Carne asada and one that was supposed to be deep fried. Opened the burritos and none of them had an ounce of carne asada, all potatoes! Deep fried burrito was not deep fried at all. Forgot an item we ordered. On top of all the food being messed up, when we went to pick up our food, the older woman at the front proceeded to talk to the couple behind us and completely ignored us. First time. I tried the chicharon taco, al pastor and carne asada. All had good flavor but with the tortilla was thicker. When you add salsa it makes it soggy if you don't eat it fast. They have a nice salsa bar and the chips salsa is good. The other ones are flavor full but they were a bit watery. I am not a big fan of cabbage in tacos so next time I would exclude it. W.O.W. The wife and I have only been in Arizona 3 years from California. I'm so happy we came in here. I have been missing and craving street tacos. I LOVE STREET TACOS!! So cut to the chase. The wife had the #1 with carne asada which came with rice and beans. The beans were so good, tasted homemade and flavorful. The rice was good and super fluffy. I got four street tacos. A legua, cabeza, chicharron verde and carne asada. Everything tasted so good. The street tacos are only 1.99 each!! We had the homemade flan. COME ON!!! It literally melted in my mouth. Very disappointed in the service, serving sizes and the pricing. My husband ordered enchiladas with shredded beef. He ate half of one of them and realized it was cheese only. No meat. He took it up and the lady argued with him that he didn't order meat. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. He showed her the receipt. We did pay for meat! She took his plate and threw meat on top of the enchiladas. I have never been to a place that did this. It is customary to make a new dish for the customer. I've worked in the food service industry, and aside from being against health regulations to bring the customer's plate back to the kitchen, you just don't treat a customer this way. $10 for a small basket (though it was listed as a large) of chips with no refills is quite steep. Serving sizes were on the smaller side. At other establishments, I would typically get a 3 street taco plate for the same price as their 2 street taco plate. read more

Very disappointing!! Ordered lunch as this is across the street from work and was shocked by the price. Ordered two AZ burritos and a large limonada. Price came out to $34.79. Their website shows AZ burrito is $8.49 and large limonada is $3.29. I understand price might've gone up but no way it should've gone up that much. I have social anxiety and was unable to say anything about price so just ended up paying for it. Not only was the price super high but the burrito did not even have avocado which it should per their website. 10/10 do not recommend!! You're better off driving down the street to a Filibertos. read more

I have lived in the area all my life and today was the first time I decided to give this place a chance. I suppose I'll start with the menu. I ordered the two carne asada street taco combo that includes a small side of rice and beans, ordered a side of chips and salsa and a regular soda and my cost before tip was $21!!! I couldn't even justify the cost since the food was very average at best. My tacos barely had any meat on them. Secondly, the salsa bar was out of limes and salsa for the chips. Lastly, it was extremely hot inside. The AC had to be set to 80 or above. I do not recommend this place and can think of many other taco shops nearby with better bang for your buck. The place was clean and the food was okay... There's Nothing too exciting or different about lulu's taco shop in comparison to other "Mexican restaurants" or "taco shops", the food was okay but way overpriced for what you get. They are a "eat in" restaurant but you can get "take out" there is no drive-through. They have a salsa bar and i believe they also serve liquor since they have a shelf filled with it but it might be decorative. I used the "yelp check in" for the free chips and salsa but it was not anything special but it's a nice offer if you enjoy chips and salsa I ordered a AZ super taco which ended up coming out to $4.46 after tax... I mean almost $5 for a single taco is pretty much wow.. yeah not really down with that and again it was just another taco nothing special about it. Sad that they don't have specials. Oh and they also encourage cash payments so I guess it's better if you come in with cash. Gave them a 3 star due to the ambience, cleanliness and friendly staff at the register. I made eye contact with the cook in the back and not even a grin or smile popped out. It was Kinda disappointing. Ever since the first time I found this treasure Location and Gilbert. There are no other places that come close to the deliciousness of the food. If I lived closer I would be there every day but I make the 20 minute drive twice a week Saturday and Sunday for chilaquiles , and menudo. When my family comes to visit from out of state it is the place they ask for first. I've tried several of their dishes and they all just as exquisite. The place is also spotlessly clean, it smells wonderful and the cashier cook and everyone there is super nice. I can't recommend it enough if you want a real authentic Mexican food experience and you are in the Phoenix area you have to sto here!! read more

I generally don't revel in giving poor reviews. In doing so it is meant to be constructive. We went today to LuLu's based on some of the Yelp reviews. For three of us the total was 35.00. Considering what we ordered I was taken a back by our final bill. Dish 1: two shredded beef street Tacos with cheese only Dish 2: two corn tacos with cheese Dish 3: two corn street tacos with side of beans and rice 3 drinks (smalls) Guacamole and chips Honestly I wasn't entirely sure my company was going to be full with two street tacos. Small portions and not much meat filling. I don't believe that we will be making another visit back. read more

Menudo was the bomb.com!!! Best menudo I've had from any Mexican restaurant! This was my first time here and it won't be my last! It was pretty busy when we arrived for lunch and it got even busier once we sat down. The tacos al pastor are great and so is the agua de piña! Food and atmosphere was great! read more

First time customer. Came in for menudo. It was ok. Needed a lot of salt. I ordered a bottled beer which she tried to charge me $10 for since I asked for a tajin rim. I tipped her before the mishap. They have a tip jar and don't give great service. The young girl up from is rude and doesn't smile. Tries to over charge and didn't check on me at all. So tipping or even asking for a tip for non existent service is comedic. Probably will chose a different restaurant next time. Atmosphere had no patrons. read more

Over priced for what it is. I ordered #8 which states large tacos. I received two small street tacos with my order. Shrimp cocktail was average. Nachos were also skimpy. Okay so we've been coming to Lulu's for years. This is definitely the last time we're coming back. Lulu's used to have that menudo that you would crave cause it reminded you of your Nana's freshly made menudo on Sunday after church. Today I was disappointed yet again. We were greeted by spicy menudo with the old chunks of menudo (orange chunks) sauce and it was thick jugo. I have no shame in saying I've been broke af and wanted menudo so bad that I would get canned store bought Juanitas....well today I'm pretty sure that's what I got. It's a sad day.
