Short version: We had an amazing meal. It's complicated and expensive but amazing. For sure a special occasion spot. Get the ice cream sandwich :) Longer version: about a month in advance we made a 7:45 reservation even though a little earlier would have been better- no availability earlier. This restaurant is walking distance from the Fox Theater where apparently a lot of customers had tickets to see th 8pm stage production of Funny Girl. The restaurant largely emptied out all at once just as we took our seats. The dining room is intimate and modern but also warm and inviting. We had a table in the center of the room which I don't usually live but because of the warmth of the room it worked out well. The menu is essentially a long list of small and unusual dishes. It needs interpretation and suggestions from the wait staff. Our server, Emily, was friendly and knowledgeable. With her help we started with bread, salad, bursts, and smoked scallops. They ere all good though the scallops were the standout. The are presented with a domed lid that is removed to allow a puff of smoke to escape off the dish- amazing aromas. For dinner we had the snapper wrapped in squash, Capatelli with pork ragu and prawns, ravioli, and both of the side vegetables- okra and mushrooms. Emily helped us choose a bottle of wine. ORIGIN: Lyla Lila is co-owned by Jarel Portman, the developer of the slick, new residential building in which the restaurant inhabits; Billy Streck, established Atlantan restauranteur; and Streck's friend, Craig Richards, a chef who learned the trade in the famed restaurant kitchens of Lydia Bastianich. The restaurant's double name represents the coincidental shared name of Streck's and Richards' daughters, and aurally complements the name given to the 24 story residential tower above it (Lilli Midtown) by Portman. Lyla Lila opened at the ground floor of Lilli Midtown just before the start of the pandemic. CONCEPT: Chef Craig Richards describes Lyla Lila as Italian in spirit and technique, but with an expanded pantry that embraces common regional culinary ingredients (e.g. okra, peaches, shrimp). He has also noted that the restaurant's double name is playful, which also reflects the kitchen's orientation towards innovative use of ingredients. EXPERIENCE: The restaurant has four seating sections: sidewalk, bar area, main dining, and back room. I was seated in a luxuriously spacious corner banquette in the main dining area that faces a floor to ceiling window. As this was my first experience, I asked for the server's recommendations. First Course: To start I selected the crispy artichokes. The artichokes are prepared Roman-Jewish style (fried), and seasoned with lime, velvety Parmesan sauce, and bottarda -- the grated, desiccated/preserved egg sac of a fish. As the dish name promised, the exterior was crunchy, contrasting with the moist interior with every bite. This was presented as a small plate of four, and adorned with a scattering of micro greens -- perfect for the early spring as the dish appeared to be a small bouquet of verdant flowers. This is a dish that can be easily shared with others. Second Course: The server recommended two pasta dishes, crispy duck lasagna or wagyu beef and truffle ravioli. I went with a half order of crispy duck lasagna. This is one of those heavenly dishes that is difficult to both describe and replicate. Shredded duck and cocoa-infused bechamel sauce were positioned within kitchen-made layers of lasagna, and artfully surrounded by carrot and green coriander purée. Complementing the dish's components was a pile of thin carrot ribbons dressed with finely chopped coriander leaves. Dessert: The server directed me to the ice cream sandwich. Here, a large round of cherry gelato is encased in a dark chocolate shell, and topped with an anise-infused, lacy Pizzelle that was sprinkled with powdered sugar. Each component complemented the others, and the dish was flavorful, rather than cloying. TIPS: Pasta dishes can be ordered as halves, allowing greater opportunity to explore enticing menu items and the chef's culinary expertise -- Craig Richards was a 2022 southeastern semi-finalist for the James Beard award. A back room can be the site of a large gathering. Reservations are currently difficult to snag, but bar seating is possible in the early evening. Got super lucky & got seats at the gorgeous half circle bar (: Small restaurant with a cozy & romantic vibe!! The squid ink pasta was *chef's kiss*, my personal favorite!!! As we walked in, the hostess was very friendly. The waitress was also friendly and very helpful. She let me know I could order 1/2 portions which suited me perfectly. Lyla Lila was nothing short of spectacular. I highly suggest reservation, as it is not a big restaurant, and they tend to book up quickly. Unsure about parking, as we took an uber, but there are some parking decks nearby and street parking if you can find it. There were 4 of us, so we just ordered a lot and had a taste of everything. We started with rosemary ciabatta, tuna tartare, mortadella, and the cold smoke scallops. Then we moved on to duck lasagna (get it and thank me later), cavatelli, wagyu beef, cacio e pepe, and the snapper. Finished with lemon cheesecake, cannoli, and the chocolate-orange tart. All of their pasta is made in house, so you can get half portions instead of full, which helps you try more. We really enjoyed our dining experience at Lyla Lila. Thankfully it was a nice temperature outside as we reserved one of their outside tables. Our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. She provided great suggestions since it was our first time. We started our meal with drinks. My husband ordered Soul Vaccination and I ordered Monk's Repose. My drink was light and frothy with a nice citrus flavor. For food we ordered the wagyu beef tartare, small portion of the corn and goat cheese raviolini, fill size portion of the wagyu beef and black truffle ravioli, and the crispy duck lasagna. The appetizer was phenomenal. It had a punch of spiciness and a delightful crunch from the sunchoke chips. Both ravioli dishes were very good but the crispy duck lasagna won me over. It had multiple thin layers of pasta, delicious duck and the crispy outside was key. We ended our meal with the ice cream sandwich for dessert. We had a party of 2 for dinner at 8 pm on Wednesday, 3/6/24. We were able to get a reservation the week before, probably because it was the middle of the week, but they were still packed! Paid street parking and other parking garages and lots nearby. Mike D. was our waiter and he was great, along with everyone else who took care of us! We ordered way too much food, but we wanted to try a lot, and we got to take leftovers home. You can get half orders of the pastas, which is a game changer! We got to try more that way. no Here's what we got: - Rosemary Ciabatta Bread ($7): OMGGGG. The molasses-smoked salt butter was divine. It was reminiscent of an Auntie Anne's pretzel in the best way. - Crispy Artichokes ($22): This was the only thing we were both unimpressed with. Didn't feel like there was anything special about it and wouldn't get it again. - Cold Smoked Scallops ($28): Wowow. Super good and unique. Presentation was also cool with the dome of smoke. - Crispy Duck Lasagna (half order, $22): Good! Glad we got a half order because the full one would've been a lot! The carrot-coriander purée was also unexpectedly very good!! At other restaurants, it might've been a thoughtless garnish, but the carrot really freshened up the dish. - Capeletti Ravioli (half order, $23): Very good! - Wagyu Beef and Black Truffle Ravioli (half order, $25): Good, not as heavy as I was expecting. We wish it had been more truffle-forward. But the beef was very tasty! - NY Strip Steak ($65): Good! My picture doesn't do it justice. The potatoes and broccoli were good too. - Wood Grilled Mushrooms ($19): This was amaaaaazing. We got our truffle-forwardness and then some here. Soo good! Lyla Lila EXCEEDED my expectations. My girlfriend surprised me with dinner here for my birthday, and we were both blown away. We both love Italian food, so this place was perfect. I highly suggest you make a reservation for this place. I think they might do walk-ins, but I'm not too entirely sure. We went on my actual birthday, 2/8, but my girlfriend made the reservation around the second or third week of January. The food was incredible and the drinks were great, so it only makes sense that this place is always so booked up. We both started with a cocktail each and then moved on to appetizers and then ordered a bottle of wine, followed by two entrées, and then dessert with a glass of champagne. We shared everything, we always share whenever we go out to eat. I will list out what we got to eat/drink here: Drinks: Sure as Spring and Monk's Repose. I can't remember the wine bottle we got unfortunately. Nothing disappointed. A good thing to know about the pasta dishes, is that for most of them, you can get a half portion so it's easier to share. For some you aren't allowed to get a half portion though, like the Tajarin pasta we got, we had to get a full portion. The tuna crudo was some of the best tuna crudo I have ever had, so I highly suggest you try it out. The salad was so flavorful and had a nice bite to it. They also have other types of main courses as well, not just pasta, so there's something on this menu for everyone. The drinks we had were pretty good as well. Albeit, they were quite strong, but not unbearable. For the wine bottle we got, we told the server what we both liked, and she passed it on to a sommelier at the bar who came to the table and provided us some incredible service and a great recommendation. Overall, I would highly recommend this place to anyone that is celebrating a special occasion or just is in the mood for a really fancy dinner. Wow, want a great place. We tried to make a reservation the day of an event at the Fox with no luck. Lucky, we did stop in and they were able to sit us at the bar. Jackson, our bartender, took great care of us. He recommended several outstanding meal choices which we agreed with. Service - good effortless, not very personable. The good: Fried artichoke - expensive, but really good if a little hard to eat. I felt as though when I was ordering, I was really taking a shot in the dark as to what was going to come out. People RAVE about this restaurant. I was very excited to try it. The ambiance and vibe is stunning. Tons of comfortable seating options (they open resy up to 30 days prior and it fills fast). The lighting is perfect and is truly beautiful. The staff was kind and attentive and helpful when it came to ordering. Now as for the food - I was not enthralled with my main dish. I'm a huge foodie and have had some of the best Italian in the world both in Italy and here in the states. This restaurant did not make that list. I got one of the popular items: squid ink pasta and it was just average 5/10. It was a large portion but the flavor didn't hit the way I wanted it to. 3 things I did enjoy there was: 1. The smoked artichoke. I could've eaten a plate of that appetizer alone! 2. The mocktails and wine! Great selections and nice tasting! Very small in size though! We had tix to Alvin Ailey and wanted to grab a quick bite. Seated on the corner across from the Fox, I do recommend making reservations if you can. We managed to get seats at the bar and managed to get two appetizers and some wine. Just on the appetizers and wine, I definitely want to go back for dinner. We had the crispy artichokes and calamari. The artichokes were tender and came with a parmigiano fonduta. I could have eaten the entire plate, that's how delicious they were. The calamari was grilled with corona beans, smoked olives, sun-dried tomato-cashew pesto. This dish was amazing, and the calamari was tender. The place was a whole vibe, and the bartenders were really nice. To drink, I tried the cab-franc, which was amazing. All in all, for a quick turnaround spot to grab and go, this place is great! We also ordered a delicious salad as well as a beef tartare (not all my bf had hoped for, but it was his first time having beef tartare in general). Went here for the first time yesterday before a show at the Fox. The staff were very warm and welcoming when we arrived. The restaurant is beautifully decorated. Our waiter was also very nice and knowledgeable about the menu and wines. I started off with the karma chameleon cocktail. It was really good. You'll like it you enjoy vodka. We had the bread with rosemary butter. The bread was really soft and warm. The butter was soft and the herbs and seasonings amplified it. It melted while on the bread and it was really yummy. I did half portion pastas so I could try more than one. I did half portion of the crispy duck lasagna. It was my first time having duck, but I wanted to try it because everyone says it was so good. They were not lying! It definitely lived up to the hype and more. And my other hostel was a half portion of the Wagyu beef ravioli. I took my first bite and I just thought wow this is amazing. Summary: great fine dining experience in midtown Atlanta; great interior; mostly pasta-drive; great cocktails and wine list; variety of good seating (bar, booth, etc.). Based on two visits a year apart (most recent was March 2024). Big fan of this place. Had the pappardelle with wagyu (with some wine by the glass), duck fat washed bourbon, and ice cream sandwich. Pasta was one of the best meals I've had in Atlanta--firm pasta, generous portion of wagyu, buttery but not overly heavy sauce. I may order it again next, although they change their menu. Bourbon cocktail was wonderful--hope that stays permanently. It's not overly complicated--just think of glass of bourbon but enhanced so that the mouthfeel and texture is thick and dessert-like. Serve on a single large rock with a touch of citrus. I like the ice cream sandwich, but I'd like to try the tiramisu next time. Vibe: love the interior--I can't describe that stuff, so just Google it. Good soundtrack too--mostly more refined 80s (Smiths, Cure, Talking Heads) with classic jazz. One thing--this place looks great in both day and night (the windows). One of my favorite nice places in Atlanta, especially since midtown and downtown don't have that many genuinely good options. Service: Nice and helpful with questions. Also, there's no dress code, but it's nice enough place that (for a guy), you'll want either dress pants or "proper" jeans with a dress shirt. I cannot believe I never reviewed Lyla Lila!! One of my favorite restaurants in Atlanta and somehow singing it's praises digitally it slipped my radar. The ambiance is intimate, great for date nights or just a small gathering. The service is AMAZING. Very good Italian food in Midtown. Started off with house bread and crispy artichoke. The bread was okay after scrapping the salt off and not sure what happened to the rosemary. The artichoke had a nice presentation and it was crispy, and a little on the dry side. Squid ink spaghetti had a nice spicy taste with the red pepper flakes and plenty of shrimp. This is the current Atlanta "It" place for Foodies. We happen to go on the same night as two couples of other friends, who are all wine lovers. The space is quaintly elegant and comfortable, but there is no valet parking. Depending upon your reservation time and fox activities, this could make parking a real headache. Front of house was great for us. Our waitstaff was super friendly and paced us as we prefer, no rushing. I did try a cocktail, and was underwhelmed, but the list is interesting and follows the present distilled agave trends. Corkage was $50, which was disappointing. Our cork service was great, and I enjoyed the stemware selection, but our friends' bottle service was neglected. $50, wine opened & decanted, food's arrived, NO glassware. That's a problem. The wine list focuses on smaller bio-organic producers, which is fine. Much of the focus in my cellar is the same, but the wine selections are strange. I collect a lot of wine and have for some time, and I knew very few of the producers. The pricing is very poor, and I don't understand the selection. For example, they had a 2019 Rias Baixas rojo. (Which showed about an 400-500% mark up based upon a web search). Why? So many good opportunities for bio-organic wines from Spain that would have be riserva or older. Most wines on the menu were quite young and not worthy of drinking at this time, yet the pricing was beyond reasonable. In short, I think the restaurant is NOT friendly to the wine-lover, and is focused on cocktail quaffers. Menu selection is interesting for the salads/small plates and pasta dishes (first two sections), but the larger plates were almost programmatic: chicken, steak, rack of lamb, trout, scallops. Nothing interestingly done, just "normal" but with premium prices. I will say our food was very well done. The broccoli and fennel salad was excellent. Tuna crudo was high quality. I had the wagyu beef ravioli, and they were excellently prepared. I loved the truffle and wine reduction. Unfortunately they were served on a cold plate, so they came out tepid at best. All in, I felt like "meh". We had a nice night, but food and wine go together, as an old French saying that loosely translates as, "Food without wine is like life without music." I prefer music in my life. I don't need to go to a restaurant that is unfriendly to that notion. read more

We almost missed our dinner rreservation here because of a show down the street (and subsequent parking nightmare). So much stress before dinner. In any case, after we finally figured out the parking sitch, we actually had a very good meal here. Some dishes were definitely 5-star, but a couple of others were clear misses. Here's the rundown. One of the stars was the broccoli and fennel salad which was just so good to me. I love a good salad, but rarely (and I mean super rarely) do I actually call out one in a review. But this one was that good. The other star was the roast chicken. That dish was perfect in every way. Perfectly cooked, perfect accoutrements, perfect everything. I'd want to eat that every night. I should shout out the snapper in squash and the agnolotti as well as they were also both quite good. A couple of clear misses though. That famous lasagna landed like a brick for us (and looked like a brick too). It felt so out of place among the otherwise delicate cuisine. And where's the duck in the duck lasagna? The taste was actually there, but it was far from our favorite. And then there was the undercooked cheesecake. Total fail. All-in-all, we'd definitely go back here. I came here to celebrate my partner's birthday. The place was very nice and service was very attentive. We decided to order multiple things so we could try various dishes. - grilled calamari - delicious and the beans underneath were so flavorful. The squid was so tender. It was a great start to our meal. - crispy artichoke - haven't had an artichoke like this before. It looked like ribs and there was a fondue sauce with lemon zest and the bottom. - crispy duck lasagna - this is what my partner ordered and he loved it! A deep fried lasagna. - squid ink pasta - I got a 60% serving size for 60% portion. This is a great deal when you want to order different pasta dishes to try out. The pasta was fresh and the buttery lemony sauce was delicious. - snapper - I was too full to eat at this point but the snapper was perfectly moist and cooked. read more

Amazing food, service and ambiance! Love the close proximity to The Fox, as well. Reservations are pretty much a necessity unless you want to sit at the bar which has ample seating. Highly recommend this restaurant! read more
