The place is warm & friendly. It was my 2nd time wine tasting. For $10, you can taste 7 wines. It's a nice place to stop by! I love it.

Went there for my first time two weeks ago. We got there about 6pm and they were still very welcoming. Last time to buy tasting is at 6:30pm eventho they close at 7pm. Great staff and lovely and did not rush anyone it's seven let's go people.. non of that. by 7pm i still need 2 more tasting and no rush they just asked which one i was interesting in having and will keep them out when i'm ready for my taste. I agree with Colleen. The wine is overall fair. if you like fruit wines, their blackberry is worth a visit. The B&B is WAY overpriced and while the train station is a mile away, the tracks are literally right next to the facility. Nonetheless, it is closer to Napa than anything else in the area, and fun for an occasional distraction. read more

I have been coming here for a few months now and will continue to do so. Although I am not a wine connoisseur, I cant help but love to pick up a glass and start relaxing in this local winery. Its a great place to bring friends and just sample all there is to offer. I recently became a member of one of their wine clubs and get to take home a new bottle monthly. The workers are all very friendly and eager to refill your glass (I love that part.) I will continue to come back and recommend this place to anyone looking for a good wine fix. read more

I came here with some friends for a Private Wine tour and it was so nice. The gentleman was very knowledgeable. The only disappointment is that nothing was running so we can see how everything worked. The wine was very nice. Afterwards we came up and purchased some yummy wine. read more

The outside of the building and inside of the wine tasting area is very pretty...But that's about all that I can say that is good about my experience there. They have several options available in wine tasting packages but it was very challenging to get somebody to explain it to me. once you get into the area where they serve, for the wine tasting the bartenders acted like they were being bothered to pour a glass of wine. they seemed more interested in talking to each other than serving me what I asked for. It was almost as if they were just waiting for the patrons to leave. when signing up for the wine tasting they said that there would be some snacks provided when tasting the wine. Nothing was provided without asking for it and when they did provide snacks it was some dried bread. After drinking the wine the bread was definitely needed but nobody ever offered me more and overall the service and communication was terrible. What a disappointment. read more

Actually their fruit wines aside, Lynfred makes some pretty good wine. Most of it is sourced but he does a nice job with his winemaking. The gewurztraminer is quite good as is their pinot. they have a nice shop attached to the tasting room which sells glassware and wine brac a brac. I went to do a wine tasting with friends from work. We got there a bit early and a few of us had a glass of wine right away, which the staff was happy to serve us. We then had a fabulous wine tasting! As we wanted to enjoy our time together, we went to buy another glass of wine. After some miscommunication and an interaction with the girl working (she called me rude to my face, at which time another patron told her she was the rude one) we found out that you are only permitted 2 experiences (which was NEVER communicated in any other way) and wouldn't serve those of us who had a glass earlier in the day. Overall, her attitude left a bad taste in my mouth and led me to make no additional purchases. read more

We went to Lynfred on a random weekday the week after our wedding. We had a blast! The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable; and when they found out that we were celebrating our recent marriage, they invited us for a tour of the winery. Bonus: they were bottling wine that day so we got to see the wine-bottling contraption in action! The patrons in the tasting room that day were clearly regulars. They had tons of suggestions, the best of which was "Join the club!" (which of course we did!) For the price of one bottle a month (around $20), you get a bottle of their "wine of the month" plus discounts on any bottles/cases you purchase. Looking forward to many future visits!! read more

Went here last night with a group of 5. They offer monthly tastings that range from $9-$12 and wines by the glass. I did the Premium Tasting. You get to choose 7 wines and then one of the two "premium" wines. Very good! They have a nice gift shop next to the main bar. Bartenders were friendly & man that was there suggested a wine for me which I enjoyed. You can stand by the main bar or they have nice seating outside too. You get additional deals and discounts if you are member. Even learned they hold classes monthly which sound interesting. Very good place to go with a group of friends to relax and enjoy wine! The environment of this place is great - makes you feel like you're in wine country while sipping on a glass on their porch. The tasting menu is pretty robust and I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a wide variety of wines and great place to try them too. read more

I cant say enough great things about lynfred. I have been a member since 2008 and always have a great experience there. Their prices have spiked up a bit in the bast year but that is happening everywhere. If you have never been there start with a tasking. My favorite activity is the wine and cheese tasting...for $18 (member price) its a great deal! I love all their red wine but they have great fruit and whites as well. read more

My biggest regret is not booking a night at Lynfred sooner! Last week we stayed in the German suite to celebrate my wife's 50th birthday and it was great! The staff at Lynfred are wonderful and made evey effort to make sure that our stay was a memorable one. Lynfred is a classy and elegant B&B with the BEST wine and accomodations! Do not hesitate booking your reservations due to the cost like I did. The gourmet food, the wine, and the special gifts are pleasant ammenities that furtther pamper your evening. In closing, I was blessed to have known Fred and witness his vision of Lynfred's B&B while it was being built. Once you experience Fred's vison of B&B elegance that is coupled with his wonderful wine, I am certain you will want to return soon. Our next visit will be in the Italian Suite. If you don't know anything at all about wine, then this is sort of a neat little thing to check out - who would have guessed there would be a winery in the middle of the suburbs, by the airport? If you love wine, and know a thing or two about it, skip the trip. Unfortunately, the wine tastes like what you'd expect from a winery in the suburbs of chicago, by the airport. I applaud the effort, time and money spent on this winery - the late owner must have been a passionate about his wine (no pun intended). The cashier was quite rude when we tried to order wine. She gave attitude so much that the customer behind us had to point out that there is confusion and that there is no attitude. We were ready to buy a few bottles of wine to take home but after being shamed by the cashier, we changed our mind. We won't be back. There are better wineries to visit and better wines to drink. My daughter and son-in-law had their 12-12-12 wedding here. Though we had multiple issues with communication between staff, organization, and an aloof, holier than thou, snobbish attitude, the issue that requires the most warning is that of attempted theft. At the time of my daughter's wedding rehearsal, we were offered a B&B room for the wedding party to get ready in by a woman named Susan, complementary from Lynfred. This is where the worst of the trouble began. When my daughter walked in the day of her wedding with an hour to get ready, she quickly realized that Susan had not communicated this to the event planner, Lisa. Lisa stated loudly in front of the wedding party, the grooms family, the bride, and Lynfred patrons, "You didn't really think $150.00 covered that, did you?". My daughter was at a loss for words. We had initially planned for everyone to get ready at home until Susan had told us about the complimentary room, but now there was no time. When I arrived and was told about the problem, I spoke with a lady by the name of Kristin. In very short order, Kristin, who seemed our only advocate, apologized for any confusion and showed us to the American room my daughter had chosen. She rushed to get ready, with our photographer busily trying to take photographs in the process. Approx 15 minutes before the wedding, general manager, Andres knocked on the door and asked to be let in to discuss a problem. I stepped outside with him instead. He then rudely stated that if I did not produce a VALID credit card for the $350.00 room fee, the wedding would not take place. I called my husband to handle the situation. He later told me that Andres had already attempted to charge our card, using the information from our February 2012 event payment. Since we had had an issue with identity theft in April, and had credit card and account numbers changed, he was not able to do this. In an effort to keep the peace, my husband paid him $50, but would not be strong-armed into paying $350.00 for a room we had been offered as complementary, and would only be spending 2 hours in. Nice enough wine. Lovely buidling. Hideous experience with staffpeople. At best, they were nasty and rude on my daughter's wedding day. At worst, criminal. read more

I think Lynfred Winery has slipped in recent years. Prices have gone up significantly for all experiences. Two friends and I did a premium wine tasting this past Tuesday and we were all disappointed with the stingy pours, quality of the wines and the ridiculous price for the tasting. The younger gal pouring for us never smiled or acted friendly. Both my friends commented on her abrupt demeanor. The on-site sommelier acted rudely towards my friend who wanted to pay for me in advance and he gave her a difficult time. In contrast, Cooper's Hawk has generous pours and frankly I like their wine selections better. They make sure those pouring are trained in treating customers with a friendly demeanor. I have been a member of Lynfred for many years and recently had a credit card change. I had planned to re-join while at this tasting but the experience left much to be desired so I decided differently. read more

The wine is fine- no complete stand outs here. The issue is their setup. You pay at the bar in the entry and then are expected to wait in line for a single tasting- located 2 rooms away- and told to leave the area (as the pouring bar is approx. 1 1/2 feet wide). You're then expected to roam the tasting room, while sipping your one ounce pour, and get back in line and start again. Have the owners ever been to a tasting room before? Because they clearly don't understand the concept. To add insult to injury, the dividers in the restroom are glass. I already have to hear my next stall neighbor, please give me the courtesy of not having to see her sit on the toilet and wipe. Completely inappropriate. read more

We've been meaning to do this for a few years and now we can see what all the fuss is about! It's not quite a true Oktoberfest (no beer) but there was a tent, long tables of "happy" guests and plenty of German music. The $3 admission was more than fair and the food was reasonably priced too. Plus who can complain about $12 bottles of wine. We brought our kid (yup, we were THOSE people) but we were glad to see many other kids with parents. You can't beat drinking outside with your kid running around having a good time too. There were also a few fun kids events (but the space designated for this was too narrow/crowded in my opinion). The food was somewhat disappointing - the pork was salty, the brownie was like cardboard and it just wasn't authentic to Oktoberfest. The main tent was also far too small for what was going on. Not enough tables to watch the grape stomping nor listen to the music. But they were quite limited by the space offered on the grounds. There were plenty of other places to sit - you just had to scout them out and then claim it as yours! Many of the attendees brought their own lawn chairs, next time we'll do the same. In the future, it would be nice to see another live band perhaps near the front gate. The wine was - well, cheap and decent as is always the case at Lynfred. I didn't particularly love the selection (Petite Syrah, Merlot, Oktoberfest) and missed many of my Lynfred favorites but for the number of people they had to please, it was a good effort on their part. One "complaint" was that they allowed smoking on the premises (but not in the tent). Though many of the smokers on the grounds tried to go to the fence (and away from the crowd) - it was still unpleasant to have to be around the smoke (though probably no more pleasant for them to have to be around my running/screaming kid). All in all a unique event on a nice piece of property with decent wine at a fair price. Who can beat that? read more
