What can I say this place is one of my saving graces! The wine is delicious, the bread is extremely lovely and always fresh, and the staff is always helpful. I usually come a couple of times a month to pick up my member wines or do a tasting. This place gets pretty crowded on the weekends so be prepared to wait a bit longer for service. The great part about the weekend is that tours of the winery are available, they serve small plates, and there are a number of areas open where you can get your tastings instead of just the wine bar. If you don't want to do a tasting you can always buy a glass of wine and take it outside on the patio or walk around the store and enjoy it. The regular tasting usually has 10 choices but you can only pick 7. But you can upgrade to a premium tasting and get an extra taste or try a featured lux wine. If you're in the area this is a must stop or if you're looking for a cute B&B to stay in you have to check this place out!! read more

This was my very first visit to Lynfred. I came as a guest of a wine club member. The whole experience far exceeded my expectations from the excellent wines to taste, to the beautiful building and rooms to the friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff. I have to agree that Lynfred Winery is a beautiful place to visit. It is worth it to go and be able to tour the winery. The wine shop has a variety of items that you cannot find elsewhere. The tour itself is very interesting. However, the wine is just average. I was a member of their wine of the month club for one year and out of that time, I received one bottle that I actually enjoyed. Their anniversary Cabernet-Zinfindel is good though. The bed and breakfast is incredibly decorated, however, way overpriced. Contrary to some reviews, the winery is not steps from the train stration. The actual train station is over one mile from the winery. For the cost of one night at the bed and breakfast, I would much rather have a nice hotel room in downtown Chicago, have a great bottle from Napa Valley and a nice dinner! read more

Helpful advise here if purchasing Wine from this place - this is not a review of the Bed & Breakfast facility which I am sure is very lovely....please read on. So I wanted to thank someone for working on a small project with me and found out they love Red Wine. I thought awesome I will go to Lynfred Winery. I arrived there and the placed was packed, which I was certainly glad to see happening at a local business. I explained to the Gal assisting me that I was looking for a Red Wine in the $20-$30 range, but that I had no clue if the person I was buying it for preferred Sweet or Dry. The Gal suggested a middle of the road option and I purchased a $25 bottle for this thank you gift. Less than 24 hrs later, I found out that the person I purchased this for really loves Sweet Red Wine - so I thought no problem, I will just exchange it the next day for what she likes.....WRONG! As the old saying goes..."No Good Deed Goes Unpunished". Upon returning to Lynfred with my $25 bottle of wine, I was told that they cannot take it back due to FDA rules and regs. Mind you the Gal who assisted me with my purchase never mentioned this policy knowing that I was unaware of which kind of Wine I was needing. There were also no notices posted at the counter about their exchange policy, nor is it printed on their receipts. Needless to say I made my "replacement" purchase in which I spent another $25 for this thank you gift. I advised the guy assisting me today that they should post their "NO Return or Exchange" policy and that I would not be returning to Lynfred for any future purchases which is unfortunate because I tend to spend quite a bit of money on gifts. read more

I love Lynfred. I have been going there for years and have no negative comments. The staff are personable, knowledgeable, and great at multitasking (it can get very hectic). In response to the comments below about the wine being too sweet...why don't you try a dry red? You drink a fruit wine or pinot grigio, and you will taste something sweet. There are a great selection of jams, gifts, etc. The Oktoberfest is definitely worth checking out. The homemade bread is to die for. Lynfred doesn't claim to be like a California winery. It sets itself apart from other wineries and is one of the few wineries in the area that makes its own wine (unlike Coopers Hawk, from what I've heard). Lynfred is at the top of my to-do list whenever I visit the suburbs. read more

This review pertains to their Octoberfest my wife and I attended yesterday October 1st, 2016. It was raining most of the day and the lines to purchase food and wine were very long, everyone getting drenched. #1 If the future I would love to see the winery sell tickets in advance so people can walk right in. Two weeks prior you should be able to walk in, view the menu, and purchase your admission tickets and initial food purchase tickets. #2 I realize that this is a winery, but I have never attended an OCTOBERFEST that didn't have BEER. Not everyone drinks wine and many love a cold beer with a BRATWURST, not a Bratburger. #3 These two days that the winery set aside for the fest are very busy, they shouldn't allow people to get there early and reserve large amounts of seating to have their birthday party there. My wife and I had to stand at the condiments table and eat our lunch as we view two long empty table with the chairs leaned up against them and happy birthday signs on them. The people having the party were guarding them like guard dogs. Next year let's not allow people to take over the tables, others would like to sit and enjoy the fest. And let's pre-sell the food and admissions tickets. read more

Great wines (personally addicted to their fruit wines), great service, knowledgeable staff and cute little store for all your wine gifts and accessories! I'm not a member of the wine club (shame on me) but I've been a loyal customer for years. While I do prefer the less crowded, more intimate setting of a tasting during the week, I feel as if some of these reviews are pretty harsh when judging the winery's business on the weekends. Clearly they are doing something right if they are crowded on Saturday or Sunday, but much like everywhere else you'll go on the weekend, sometimes you have to wait. They always have multiple pouring stations set up and I never feel like my experience is lacking when they are busy. I do agree that more seating would be nice for catching up with friends but I'm down for a tasting at lynfred any day of the week. They are much more flexible with substitutions than some of their competitors in the area, so I'm never stuck drinking something I don't like... And I love that they extend their hours for the holidays. Keep making the quality wine and I'll keep coming back! read more

Recently, my husband surprised me with a stay at the Lynfred B&B for our wedding anniversary. Let me just say, our experience was AMAZING!! The magic began the minute we pulled into the parking lot and I noticed a sign that read "American Suite" - not only did I jump up and down at the thought of staying in this suite, but that we had a parking spot too! Woohoo!! My husband grabbed our overnight bag and we made our way to the private B&B entrance (secret entrance made me feel extra special and even more eager to see what else awaited us). We were greeted by two lovely hosts, Susan and Jeanette, and escorted up to our suite. Jeanette spoke to us about the room and then left us alone to explore and to allow us time to select our wines for the evening. This suite was just marvelous! The minute you step over the threshold, you leave your normal world behind. I loved the charming décor, our HUGE bed, and then there's the bathroom. Wow! The Jacuzzi tub - INCREDIBLE and the shower... I'd never seen such a large shower. Beautiful tile work!! Plus, a balcony with table and chairs. Delightful to sit outside and enjoy the evening air. Later, Susan and Jeanette came by to check on us and give us a tour of the cellar. Tour was awesome! Susan was animated and filled with knowledge on all aspects of the winery, not just in how the wine is made, but the history too and we LOVED that!! Afterwards, we headed back upstairs to prepare for the night ahead. We had all sorts of tasty treats in the fridge and an appetizer being cooked up by our hostesses for later. Lisa (whom my husband set up this surprise through), stopped in to see how things were going. She even made sure to grab an ice bucket with a special bubbly in it for me! Boy did these women, and my husband, do a fantastic job at keeping all this a surprise!!! The following morning, we received a call that breakfast would be on its way. Sure enough, we had a knock on our door and in came Rosemary. Rosemary chatted with us as she set out this fantastic display of china and FOOD. Wow - the food!! I couldn't wait to dig in. Everything was just delicious. Chef Joe - thank-you!!! Thank-you Lynfred for a wonderful weekend getaway. We would stay again in a heartbeat. Truly made our anniversary extra special. read more

This was my first time here during Octoberfest. The food was okay, but after having a few glasses of wine, it tasted great. The overall experience with the stomping and spitting of the grapes was something I will never forget because it was so much fun. Great wine makes a great time!! read more

For the past 5 years I have attended the Holiday Preview wine tasting event, and in usual style the Lynfred Winery delivered !! Complete with tours of their internationally themed bed and breakfast suites, the presentation of wine, cheeses, chocolates and fresh baked bread are beyond compare. The quality of the wine produced on the premises leaves one wishing you could leave with 1 bottle of each selection they offer, its just simply that good. Add to that a moderately priced gift shop with a large selection of all things wine, decor and food, it was once again a memorable experience. The staff is friendly, very helpful and for anyone who is starting out in the world of wine, you can count on the staff members to explain anything you may need to know or ever wondered about. In particular, one of the long term staff members, Barb has a flair for humor, a warm and congenial demeanor and makes the visit even more enjoyable. If you have never attended the holiday preview, make it a priority for your plans next year. In the meantime, stop by and familiarize yourself with Lynfred Winery and all it has to offer, you cannot be disappointed. The one and only reason I did not go the full 5 stars, was that with the amount of people present and all the activity, the temperature became somewhat warm inside, a little vetilation or climate control could be used. My daughter and I visited Lynfred Winery in Roselle on Mother's Day. I have to say that in 40 years, this was my favorite Mother's Day celebration! I love wine (and seemed to have passed this on to my daughters) and visiting wineries and tasting rooms has become one of my favorite things to do. We spent a few hours tasting, wandering around the lovely rooms, and sat and had a couple more glasses of the syrah, and probably would have had another, but it was closing time by then. Well, we will just have to go back! We have decided to do one of our girls' night get-togethers here, as all in our group are wine lovers! As far as wine tasting goes, this place is great. Free artisan bread, nice wines, reasonable prices and pleasant atmosphere.

My fiancé and I recently took our engagement photos at the Lynfred Winery because we absolutely love so many of the areas throughout their property. I worked with the Events Director, Lisa, who was very helpful with setting up a time that worked for everyone involved. Our day of coordinator was Katie and she was awesome!!! The whole staff was warm and friendly and the wine was delicious. We are looking forward to coming back in the near future and planning some of our parties and special events here. read more

Every year it is the same problem...too many people...not enough seating under the tent and sometimes rain. This year not only was it cold and very windy but started to rain and not enough seating under the tent and where there are tables and chairs they are so close together that you can hardly squeeze into a spot. They really need to set up another big tent or stop letting more people in when it got to standing room only in the middle of the tent so you cant see anything going on. Although we were near by we could not hear the "sing along music" from 3-5 pm on Saturday and certainly couldn't see the grape stomping. The food is good and I like the wine but it's a pretty sad excuse for an octoberfest. Get better sound system and set up an area for dancing and plan on where to put people if it rains. read more

My husband & I discovered this winery about 9 years ago when we were staying at a local resort. We have been going several times a year since then and even have taken out a wine club membership. Greg always remembers us which makes you feel like a valued customer for sure! The wines are awesome. We have a fruit club membership because my husband likes sweeter wines but I still buy my reds & whites. You can do 2 experiences when you visit, such as enjoy 2 glasses of wine that is on their current tasting list, or do a wine tasting & then enjoy a glass OR have a tasting & then do a flight in the vip room. The only complaint I have is that there are no bathrooms located near the vip room & at times the winery can get very crowded so getting from one end to the other becomes an adventure. I have yet to be disappointed with their wines. We haven't stayed at the upstairs inn yet but we did have an opportunity for a members only night where we were able to tour the rooms and they are beautiful. We have been trying to plan a stay but have 3 small kids and that has nearly been impossible, but we just enjoy our time there when we get it. During the summer you can sit outside on the covered porch and enjoy a glass or go to the screened in gazebo. It truely feels like you away on a little wine retreat. The staff is always smiling and helpful. They have a wide assortment of jams and sauces to purchase in the gift shop as well as bread. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. When I became a member about 6 years ago, the staff was pretty friendly, and helpful. Now, it's a bit of hit or miss. Some are helpful,and some just pour you a glass, look at you like you don't belong, and on to the next. I retain my membership more so because I enjoy the wine. I've been going to Lynfred since 2006. It was great for a couple of years...and I do mean great. Beautiful building, great staff, amazing prices, delicious wines. Somewhere around 2009 something changed. They switched over to tasting cards, the prices went up, the staff didn't seem quite as warm. Ok well, costs go up, people cheat the system so the tasting cards came, some changes were expected. Fast forward another 2 years, 2011, hadn't been there in a while. My wife and I went expecting to be disappointed. It actually turned out to be a lot of fun. It's sad we had to expect disappointment, we used to love going there, and did so at least once a month. So it's 2013, we just went there today. Prices up again, more new faces, didn't recognize anyone, there are ropes to form a line upon arrival, it felt very cold and business like there. I don't know what happened, someone higher up clearly has changed things since Fred passed. Again I know prices increase over time, but its almost doubled to taste from when I started going. I used to be a wine club member as well. We went to another wine tasting recently, no locations mentioned, it was only $7 for 8 pours, very friendly staff. I am not paid to be here to promote that location, clearly as I will not name it, but rather question just what happened at Lynfred. The place used to be swamped with people, every weekend. We wondered who could be enjoying this, how many regulars from 8-10 years ago are saying wow this place is as great as it was back then. We figured there are probably new visitors who didn't know how great Lynfred really used to be. Sure enough the most recent post is someone who just moved here. I see a member of the Lynfred staff visits here, I hope this post is read and taken seriously. It would be sad to have to say goodbye but things are progressively looking down in Roselle. Sorry Lynfred, the experience used to be better...a lot better. read more

We went to Lynfred and met "Penny" and she shared all the amenities that Lynfred offers. My husband and I experienced the Epicurean Room and it was spectacular. We totally enjoyed the food and wine parings and well as the service and explanation. Kudos to Penny for taking the time to explain all the services Lynfred offers. I've always had a great experience at lynfred since I can remember until today when Courtney took over taking care of my boyfriend and I during our wine tasting. We were the only customers in the whole place until a mother and daughter came in. The mother and daughter ordered one glass of wine between the two of them. This stalled our quick tasting to 20 minutes between pours. We were more than patient while she took care of the new customers. Seeing as my boyfriend and I were the only people in the place til the mother and daughter came in. I was really surprised how Courtney did such good job ignoring us. The tasting had already paid for, and we had two pours left for the premium package. Finally after twenty min when she acknowledged us again she came back with attitude. I have been a hard worker all my life and l always give the benefit of the doubt to the worker but Courtney definitely went out of her way to ignore the only people at the bar. Hope this doesn't happen again. read more
