If you're a lamb lover, this place is for you! For one of my Food Reviewing Dungeon Meshi slides, I wanted to include a business highlighting a business that focused on lamb as the main protein and M JOY came up on my listed recommendations on Yelp. Now that I've dined here, I can include in my future panels for the Barometz dish! No one will understand a single thing I've said in this paragraph so you can skip to the next one. It's located in a busy plaza, so you can always do the hack of parking elsewhere and walking in or braving the PvP zone of the above parking lot or the underground parking pit. Lots of people are driving aggressively here without looking, so be careful. M JOY is a fairly small restaurant with a limited number of tables, but they do have a paper wait list outside. Be prepared to wait if you have a big party or if you go during a lunch or dinner rush. Lots of people order to go, if that works for you. It also gets quite warm in that restaurant even with the light AC on and the fans running, especially for a hot August afternoon. You order through a QR code and you can pay through it too or call over a server. My Internet connection was horrendous here for some reason, so I had to rely on the technology of others. Service was efficient and polite. Called him over a couple times to refill water since it was such a hot day. For our lunch, we got the: 1) Coleslaw: -Reminds me of a standard coleslaw that you can get from a Western restaurant, but it's not too liquid-y or soggy and not too sour or too overpoweringly flavored by the dressing. Veggies are crisp and it added a great palate and texture cleanser when we were eating our other dishes. 2) Rib and Shank (For One): - We got an original lamb rib and a lamb shank. Huge servings of lamb meat. The shank is massive and the lamb meat slid off the bone of everything super easily. Meat is moist and extremely tender. Almost melt in your mouth. Some fatty bits to it too. 3) Lamb Ribs Double (For One): -For an extra $1, we got this grilled as we had the original one for the other dish. Skin is slightly crispy on top and it's seasoned with some spicy cumin and chili powder with pepper and sesame seeds. Delicious and probably my favorite out of all of the lamb meat that we had. The meals were meant for a single person and it was more than enough to feed 4 adults who haven't eaten all day yet and still have a bit of food leftover too. Both came with a bowl of lamb soup that had bits of lamb in it and daikon. Nice rich lamb flavor, but not mega heavy for a broth type soup. The meat is served with carrot rice as the carb and it's a bit oily, but yummy and addicting to eat. It's one of my favorite types of rice dish to indulge in. The plates also come with slides which include pickled (I believe) red onions and carrots and some chili oil for dip. Great to add extra flavor, kick, and textures to an already delicious dish. The menu isn't expansive, but it's one of those cases where the restaurant focuses solely one something and does an amazing job of carrying it out. Will come back again! read more

I usually order from here for pick up but I decided to try the dine in experience. Anyways, I definitely DO NOT recommend coming here to dine in. There was still a little bit of a wait at 1pm on a Saturday. There's only one employee managing the dining area and he genuinely looks like he hates his job and we are all a major nuisance in his life. I did feel bad because he was pretty busy running around but his attitude was terrible. When he told me my table was ready, I asked if he could wipe the puddle of water on the table and the ice cubes on the chair and he tossed a handful of napkins on the table at me and then left. Besides bringing my food over, customer service was pretty nonexistent which, I understood because it was pretty busy. However. I did not expect to get charged a 12% service charge. The only time I ever saw him smile was when customers were paying and leaving. You also dont even interact with him while ordering because you order through a QR code on the table. I assume the service charge is for the "unlimited pickled carrots and onions and lamb soup," but its genuinely so hard to flag him down because he's extremely busy. There's also a sign in store that asks customers to not stay for over an hour. Now the food is really good and the portions are generous. The lamb is very tender and literally falling off the bone. I really like the pickled carrot and the lamb soup tastes very clean and came with a slice of radish. I did try their salty milk tea (iced!) and really enjoyed it! It was super filling and I had enough of rice and lamb to eat for dinner. I think the +$2 grilled option comes with cumin powder which is also very good. I forgot to get that today though. Lesson learned - in the future I will only order online for pick up. I will also mention that the last time I ordered online, they forgot an entire rib so oooof. read more

This is lamb central. No beef, no chicken, no fish. I got the lamb shank that came with lamb broth and small sides of carrots, onions, and chili oil. The shank came out o. A bed of rice. Every thing is paid for in advance on your credit card and you order off a QR code. All and all the food was good. I'm neutral on lamb so it's hard to give it five stars. Had a great meal at M Joy and will definitely be coming back! The lamb rib set meal was absolutely delicious--the grilled lamb ribs were tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. I especially loved pairing them with the chili sauce and onions. The rice that came with the set was surprisingly flavorful too and complemented everything perfectly. Another standout was the salted milk tea. It was my first time trying it, and I wasn't sure what to expect, but I ended up loving it! It has a rich, creamy texture that's almost like a savory soup, yet it's unique, comforting, and incredibly tasty. Service was fast and efficient, and I really appreciated how convenient the ordering process was. You can scan the QR code at the table to place your order and even pay directly through your phone, which made the whole experience seamless. Went to check out Mjoy the other day. The restaurant is pretty small, probably only 5 or 6 tables, and the menu is fairly limited. They seem to focus heavily on lamb, which immediately caught my attention. I ordered the lamb shank and rib combo which comes over rice with a side of carrots, pickled onions, and a bowl of lamb broth. The lamb shank and rib were tender as hell. The pickled vegetables helped cut through the richness and kept everything balanced. The rice was soaked with the lamb juices so it was packed with flavor. The broth was light in texture but definitely heavy on lamb flavor. I also ordered the braised lamb foot which ended up being surprisingly good. Soft, rich, and full of collagen. The whole meal kind of reminded me of Hainan chicken rice, but with lamb instead of chicken. Overall it was delicious and something different from the usual lamb dishes you find around the SGV. I had a lovely experience at M Joy (San Gabriel). I ordered the Lamb Shank ($21.49). It includes a plump, juicy lamb shank, rice refills, and lamb bone soup refills. WOW! I devoured that incredible, filling meal. (Important: There's an added 12% service charge for dine-in. And there's a one hour dining period limit for customers.) I arrived at M Joy (San Gabriel) on Thursday (around 11:21AM). Parking is easy. There's an underground parking structure with plenty of spots. Customers order via QR Code. Customers scan the code at the table, and customers tap the options on their phone. Staff is very hardworking and professional. Staff (Kyle) worked quickly, accurately, and attentively. Kyle spoke Mandarin and English, and Kyle politely answered all my questions. Kyle worked hard; Kyle is an AMAZING staff member. My food took six minutes and 13 seconds. Very fast!! As mentioned, I ordered the Lamb Shank ($21.49). TASTY!! The lamb is MASSIVE and it falls seductively off the bone. Each bite tasted tender and satisfying. I felt my eyes widen as it softly broke apart with each bite. JUICY! The rice is also hot and fluffy, and the soup is clean and refreshing. I felt happy. On ambiance, M Joy (San Gabriel) is very clean and cozy. It fits about six small tables. There's soft instrumental music, and its tall ceiling makes the location appear more spacious. There's no hand sanitizer bottle nor inside restroom, but Staff does offer the restroom key for one that's nearby. However, this location is family friendly with its nearby stack of children high chairs. Overall, I had a magical experience at M Joy (San Gabriel). This location surpassed all expectations. It's no wonder why this business was featured in the "Los Angeles Times 101 Best Restaurants." If you love juicy, succulent lamb, this is an extremely easy recommendation. 5 out of 5! GO! Really small location, but worth the wait. There is a one hour period to eat because of the size of the restaurant. Ended up ordering the Lamb Rib Double and their specially tea. The lamb may not look like it has any flavor, but it was so delicious on its own. There's only one guy taking orders and serving, so don't expect to go and be friendly with the staff. He's not rude by any means, just busy. They do hand QR codes for the menu in each table and a large one posted by the counter. The tea was good, but might not be my thing. This place is more of a 3.5 than a 4 star. 4/5 lamb shank rice was ok. The rice lacked flavor and the lamb was very dry 1/5 the coleslaw is the worse version I've ever had. Do not order this. Woah I was so shocked by how delicious M Joy was! Came for dinner on a Thursday evening and I was so blown away. The restaurant looks like a small storefront that doesn't have much to offer, but their dishes here taste like they're straight from the streets of China. We ordered the braised lamb shank over rice. It comes with a carrot rice and some side dishes (raw red onion, sauteed carrots, and spicy). The lamb was SO fatty and tender and delicious. The meat just falls off the bone and the rice is seasoned so yummy. It goes perfectly with the red onion. We also ordered the lamb skewers - 3 large skewers with lots of juicy meat. And it comes with a delicious spicy salt to dip the meat in. We also got the oven roasted lamb leg - which was good but not my favorite. Service is extremely quick - food is out within 5 minutes. There's parking in the plaza, lots of dessert and boba options all around, and this restaurant is just a no-frills delicious spot. read more

Came here for a late lunch on a Saturday and we luckily did not have trouble getting sat. This is a small establishment that maybe seats like 16 people max so I've heard waits can get a bit excessive. However, its a cute spot and you definitely get a strong waft of lamb when you walk in. M Joy is a specialist restaurant in that they really only have lamb and rice on the menu. We had a party of 3 and ordered a grilled lamb shank, 3 lamb skewers, and a rice plate with shank and rib. They do have some coleslaw as a veggie side but this is the like the Xinjiang meat and potatoes equivalent dish. I really enjoyed the food, the lamb was super succulent and tender. If you like lamb, you will like this establishment but if you don't like lamb, do not come. The grilled lamb shank was my personal favorite with some nice crispy parts along with tender, fatty interior. The lamb skewers were less fatty so a bit tougher but not in a gristley, poor textured way just had the bite of meat. The rice was great and deeply flavored with lamb fat. Apparently, you can also just ask for extra rice and they will provide an extra bowl free of charge. Another great spot in the SGV and glad I got to try it sans wait. We all left feeling very full and ended up skipping dinner (granted we also ate late and had post meal boba, as is the 626 way). read more

Small cafe located on a corner inside a crowded strip mall among lots of other eateries in a high traffic area of San Gabriel. The name of the game here is lamb. If you look at the menu, it really is lamb prepared in various ways with the two main methods of being braised or grilled. You order from a QR code, but there is a person there to help you as needed. Get the skewers or the grilled shank or ribs if you want that slight char with the spices adorning the dishes. On this visit, I opted for a lamb shank (braised) with rice. At $20.99 as of 01/2026, it might be the best deal for a quality meal that includes lamb shank that I can think of in all of the LA metro area. The rice is plump and firm, flavored from the lamb broth and drippings. There is a cup of the broth served with this dish as well as some other sides of pickled carrots, onions, and chili oil so you can add to the dish for personal taste. Most importantly, the lamb was almost fall off the bone tender and flavorful. My eyes were bigger than my stomach and I got a little overexcited, but I ordered their in house made yogurt with raisins (which works as both a dessert and actually a side as well!) and their salty milk tea to wash everything down. Very delicious and comforting. I had to get pretty much half my entree to go because I was stuffed finishing the yogurt and the pot of tea. This is a very popular strip mall/ shopping plaza so parking can be tricky although I always seem to find a spot when I'm here. There's parking underground and a lot towards the back as well. Restaurant is located in a plaza area and I was not expecting it to be as good as it actually was if I were to judge it purely based off of looks. Super hole in the wall and comfortable looking. When my group of 5 sat down, we were prompted to order off of our phones using the QR code at the table. Everyone can order and put in their things from their phone and it just adds it onto the tables order. All of us got the lamb shank and rib combo, with some of us paying a bit extra for the grilled option and we also got some lamb skewers to share. Ordered delivery from here a few times on Doordash. Great lamb shank and ribs. Love their homemade yogurt so I ordered that again today. Only to find that in one of them there was a half body of a very small bug (seems like a roach, dark body, I saw the legs.) and also found another piece of an unknown thing in there. Scooped it out, took a picture and got a refund from Doordash because that's absolutely disgusting and I threw it out. Restaurant needs to re-evaluate their cleanliness and storing/sealing their food properly to not allow random bugs or things to fall in. As you can see in the photo, the bug and unknown thing is dark and noticeable. I was able to see it just by glancing at the yogurt. The workers were not even thoughtful enough to make sure the yogurt is clean and free of contaminations before serving to their customers. I'm traumatized. read more

The grilled ribs was delicious without being extremely greasy. The rice platter was very fulfilling. With the amount of food received, the price was very justifiable and reasonable. I came to M Joy after seeing it on TikTok for a birthday celebration with my friend, and we ordered a few things to try. The service was quick and efficient. We arrived around 6:30 PM on a Saturday night and didn't have to wait, which was great. Here's what we ordered: Salty Milk Tea: 8/10 The salty milk tea had a mellow milk-tea flavor that was really comforting. Not too strong, just smooth and enjoyable. Lamb Skewers: 10/10 These were our absolute favorite!! The skewers had the perfect blend of fatty and lean pieces, and they even provided extra dipping sauces for seasoning. Lamb Grilled Ribs: 7.5/10 I really wanted to like these, but the pieces were quite fatty, which made them harder to finish. I would've preferred leaner cuts of meat :( Lamb Shank With Rice: 8/10 This dish came with soup and toppings. The pickled onions were super tangy and crunchy, adding a nice pop. Located in the heart of San Gabriel foodie district, this cute little restaurant sits in a busy plaza filled with tea cafes and restaurants. Inside the restaurant, there are about 6-7 tables. You should get here early to join the waitlist or else you might wait for an hour to get seated and good luck finding parking. I recommend going to the underground parking garage for better parking. If you like lamb then everything on the menu is a good choice to order. I recommend their rib and shank meal (comes with unlimited rice and a warm soup) and their sweet milk tea. The saltiness of the meat and the refreshing flavors of the tea create a delicious combo. Their pricing is reasonable since their sides and rice are unlimited. Another SGV gem! I ordered the lamb skewers and the grilled lamb through Fantuan. The service was quick, only about 15 minutes from the time I placed my order. My favorite was the grilled lamb. The meat was so tender and perfectly seasoned. The lamb skewers, on the other hand, were a bit meatier than the grilled lamb. Personally, I preferred the grilled lamb. The space isn't very large, best for small groups of 2-3 people. They also have plenty of parking, including underground parking, which is a great bonus. read more

Ok believe it not this place is the spot so let me tell y'all what I got. If this was a fraternity like Lambda Lambda Lambda you know they're hot! First up was the Lamb Shank that was so soft and juicy that came with rice that reminded me of my childhood, so good. Next was their Lamb Skewers that were cooked to perfection and our tastebuds were humming! While enjoying our feast we had the special tea with milk. Ok this was very flavorful, creamy and rich and made this tasty experience even better. I also got to try the homemade yogurt which was a perfect end the adventure. It was tangy and I was told it was good for digestion so there's that. Ultimately he was right and we enjoyed all the recommendations. Parking: M Joy is located in the same plaza as Chi Cha San Chen. The plaza is extremely old and really should have their parking spots restriped for modern day car sizes. Parking is terrible here. Interior: M Joy is a very small restaurant. There are maybe 5 tables available for dine-in. There is even a sign that says to please limit your time. Service: I ordered takeout. There were two guys at the register. Neither of them spoke English well. Unfortunately, I think that led to them messing up my order. I ordered two Lamb Rib Doubles but one of them ended up being a single. Unfortunately, I was already home so I couldn't do anything about it. Food: Despite messing up my order, the food itself was delicious. The lamb was very tender and flavorful. I also got an order of lamb skewers and that was seasoned and cooked perfectly. My favorite were definitely the skewers. They had so much flavor. The rice, the yogurt I have no complaints. The service was extremely fast. M Joy is the Bubba Gump of lamb. You can choose between lamb ribs, lamb shanks, lamb skewers, grilled lamb, and lamb soup. The dishes skew toward northwestern China and Central Asia in terms of spices and preparation. Lamb Rib Single with Rice: They'll bring a plate of lamb and rice, a bowl of clear lamb consommé, and a dish of carrots, raw onions, and chili. The rice is firm and chewy, slick from the lamb broth and fat, with bits of carrots. The New Zealand lamb has been cooked for so long that this is beyond tender with no gaminess. It's as soft as pulled pork. The carrots, onions, and chili add flavor and texture, and they'll keep offering to refill the condiments. Dining Area: There are half a dozen little tables. However, they are so close together, you'll be practically in the middle of your neighbor's conversation. Have been to M Joy and have ordered take out many times including Uber Eats to the DTLA area that is how much I like it. The owner provides great customer service. I usually get the number 1 which is a double lamb rib. It comes with rice mixed with carrots, the rice is so good. I usually add cold dish carrots, pickled onions, and chili oil all together. The lamb is juicy, moist, and tender. It can be fatty so order with caution, if you want something leaner order 1 rib and 1 lamb shank for the best of both worlds. Be warned the shank can feel more dry after eating the fattier lamb rib. The soup is good and if you want help digesting all this meat, yogurt is available for order. I've also had the double lamb rib grilled and it was so good. It added a different texture to the outside and still tender and soft on the inside. It was a game changer, however one time it came out over cooked and it was like chewing on rubber. The owner was able to remedy the situation. Overall, M Joy specializes in one thing and that is lamb. This location is small and cozy, and food done right. read more

LAMB-LICIOUS!!! My 1st time here and omg what a find! This place has a really simple menu and it's based on lamb. They only serve 100% grass fed lamb from New Zealand and you can totally taste the great quality it is. I ordered the rib and shank meal which comes with rice with carrots and sides of carrots, onions, chili oil and lamb bone soup. I also got an ordered of the grilled ribs. I'm in love with the shank. It was so tender and flavorful. The grilled ribs were also excellent and it came with chili powder on it and more on the side to dip. The service was basic and the restaurant is really small. There is a sign that says you can only be seated for an hour probably because there's only 6 tables from what I remember. It's a brightly lit, cute but unassuming lil joint where they focus on a very small menu of options, but it feels strategic cuz food was done so well. My friend and I got the Rib & Shank entree and lamb skewers. Dude, this entree! I was grooving to no music, the food was so good! The meat is so tender & falls off the bone. The rice is flavorful and rich without feeling too heavy, and the carrot pieces within the rice fit in perfectly (I dislike it when carrot pieces feel undercooked and make their presence in your mouth known like a rude interruption to a rice dish). The entree also came with soup (soulfully warm and the perfect amount of saltiness w/ fresh scallions) and a tray of pickled red onions, pickled julienned carrots, and their chili sauce (flavor and texture are excellent, and it's not too spicy, so you can apply it liberally). These, plus the rice, are refillable! The lamb skewers also shined: delectable, already-separated, tender, bite-sized morsels of lamb that slide off the skewers so easily and come alive w/ the cumin powder provided on the side. If you couldn't tell from my verbal exclamations as I ate, you'd have been able to tell from my upper body dance that I was a very happy camper. I always order the lamb shank. One order comes with big piece of lamb on a plate of rice and carrots. In addition, the order comes with a bowl of lamb bone soup, pickled carrot slices, pickled onion slices, and chili sauce. It's nice that will give more rice, soup, and sides upon request. The lamb skewers look spicy but they're not spicy. They're more on the fatty side. I always order by scanning the QR code on the table and the food comes pretty quickly afterwards. There's limited seating inside but I've never had to wait for a spot. There's a big underground parking lot. I always get the lamb shank when I come. The lamb is always super soft. It comes with tons of rice and they will give you more rice upon request. The lamb shank also comes with a soup and sides. The sides consists of chili oil, pickled carrots, and pickled red onions. It's quite a relaxing atmosphere with very light jazz playing in the background. Parking is super easy. I placed an order to go over the phone. Lamb shank for one and 4 pieces of the grill rib. This was for my husband and oldest daughter since they both love to eat lamb. If I can give this place 10 stars I would! The food was so good. I wish we can gatekeep this place...but at the same time the world needs to know how good the food is. The person who too my order (same person who I picked up from) was very nice. The total came out to $50 and some change. The total is right for the quality. Not gamey and absolutely mouth watering. Using the lamb fat reminded me of Hainan chicken rice, and it's dangerously good. They're known for their broiled lamb, but the grilled options were also very solid. M Joy dishes out a mean Lamb and Rice dish. Their lamb is New Zealand sourced and prepared with Shank or Rib over a bed of carrot rice. The lamb is steamed to perfection and falls off the bone. I highly recommend ordering the plate that has both shank and rib. Don't skip on the pickled onion/carrots with each of your bites. This will really elevate the dish even more. If you are feeling for a sweet treat with the meal, do yourself the favor and order the Hokkaido milk tea. The restaurant is fairly small and is ordered through QR on their website. Lamb Rib + Shank Main Course ($24.99) The price looks a bit steep but M Joy does not skimp of the meat and portion size. Even if you have a big appetite, you are sure to get full from this cuz there unlimited soup and rice (if everyone orders one main course). And yes, you can also ask for more sides of carrot, onion or house made chili oil too! Grilled Rib ($12.99) Best item tried today. Pro tip, you can get this rib swapped in as the protein for the main course, but you gotta come ask for it in person cuz it's off the menu. Nonetheless would recommend getting. Specialty Milk Tea - Salty ($7.46) I like the presentation of this and flavor. It is quite unique and the saltiness almost make it taste like a cheesy tea drink.
