Blah. Waited an incredibly long time for blah food. Service was inattentive and a bit slow. My eggs were rubbery and hard (ordered over medium). Took a bite of my grilled English muffin and almost lost a tooth it was so hard. They claim their corned beef hash is homemade. It is not. It's doctored canned beef. And based on how it tasted, they use their leftover home fries to do so. I would not eat here again. read more

I feel like people don't get enough positive recognition because consumers only want to write a review when they've had a negative experience. Well I'm here to break that mold. Came in yesterday morning for brunch. It was my boyfriend and I's first time in. Parking lot looked overwhelmingly busy but once we got inside there was plenty of tables available and we were able to score a seat at the bar! The bartender, Deanna, and forgive me if I didn't get that right, but she did an excellent job taking care of us. You could tell she was hustling, had a full bar and was working the service bar on top of that. But that didn't phase her. She was attentive, very entertaining, and made us feel very welcome. What a little gold mine! Had the very best breakfast I have ever had!!! The portions are HUGE and the menu just goes on and on. The egg white omelet could not be finished but was so good! Greta spot. Clean and modern. Have been here a couple of times. Hardy and warm meals. Went on Wednesday for the burger mania special. Wow. I wish they had burger mania everyday. Great burger! Even better french fries! I had a boozy milk shake (the strawberry vanilla one) and it was spectacular. Fast and good service. We have never had a bad meal here. Good parking. Great beers on tap. I always loved this place; note the past tense. I was in the bar area yesterday when the owner/manager walked up and unprofessionally and seemingly unwarrantedly, reprimanded the bartender in front of all guests. I'm not sure what transpired but how it was handled was ghastly. I felt so uncomfortable and horrible for the bartender who it sounded like didn't ring in a beer quick enough? Breakfast is good. Buffet is good but wildly overpriced. Went there last year for Father's Day breakfast and for the four of us it came to $155. A little excessive. I think the MGM in Vegas had a cheaper Buffett and that had everything under the Sun in it. read more

This used to be one of my favorite places but the move to the new location has sent it spiraling downwards. I gave it two tries to make sure the first wasn't just a fluke, but no go. The original restaurant was a mom-and-pop style greasy spoon with some seriously authentic Irish breakfasts and soda bread. When I wasn't ready to tackle a large meal, I'd go for the corned beef hash, which was excellent and would also re-heat well as leftovers. The new place, sadly, feels far more like a TGI Fridays than its roots as a diner. It's huge, with a whole new waitstaff that clearly wishes they were somewhere else. They pressure people coming in to order from the buffet, saying that it's a 45+ minute wait for anything else. The buffet is the usual suspects, just worse and more stale. The corned beef hash in huge trays, lukewarm and mushy, makes me weep for what this place used to be. It's still about 10x better than IHoP, but that's not saying much. I've got plenty of places closer to me that will turn out a perfectly serviceable breakfast at cheaper prices, though. A damn shame, really. read more

Food, service, and atmosphere were 4 stars. However, if you're going to have an all you can eat buffet for Fathers Day again next year, please re-think how it's set up. For instance, maybe have a separate bread/toast station so that people wanting toast or bagels aren't holding up the entire line, and have a separate carving station. That way people - esp kids - who just want the standard food such as eggs, French toast, bacon, etc. can just grab their food quickly and keep the line moving. I paid a lot of money (almost $30/plate) and was only really able to get through the buffet line once. By the time I stood in line for a second helping, the line had grown to almost out the door, and the chicken, broccoli and ziti plate I was hoping for had been replaced with a completely different dish. I think $28.95 was very steep for how long we had to wait. Overall it was a disappointing experience. read more

Before booking an event here please beware!!!! Long post, apologies! Let me start this off by saying we had an absolutely WONDERFUL time celebrating my father in law's 60th birthday this past weekend at the Mad Hatter in Weymouth. This was the first time we were able to get our whole family and friends together since the pandemic, and we had all suffered so much loss this year. A true celebration was upon us! Our servers were wonderful, bartender was on point the whole night and no one ever had to wait for a drink and the food was delicious. The entire process of planning this party between my Father in Law's GF and Shannon, their events coordinator, went swimmingly, or so we thought. After a night of dancing and laughing, I came up to the bar to pay for the party. To my surprise, the bill was $677 more than we agreed upon! (Certainly not a small amount) During discussions, we had landed on 65 people having dinner and had informed Shannon that we may have more than that make their way through the party, but they wouldn't be eating. Just enjoying a drink with the birthday boy or a quick visit in with a card and a hug. At one point, a server was doing a head count which I found peculiar, since we had already discussed what we would have for a count eating. Maybe they wanted to make sure everyone was there? But I didn't think much else of it. Apparently, when they counted 81 people (about 15 minutes into people actually eating), they went and got more food and put it out. We didn't know this, as we were never made aware. No one came to myself or my planning partner to ask if that was ok or to discuss the discrepancy in head count. They went ahead and charged us for an additional 16 people. If they had come to us, we would have been totally fine with putting more food out and went to our extra people and encouraged them to eat. Part of their argument was that they put out 65 plates and then had "to get more plates." That's how they knew there were too many people. Wait...so people don't get seconds in a buffet line? Or put salad on one plate and the rest of the food on the other? Um, what? I didn't have my invoice handy when I signed my credit card slip, so at that moment I thought maybe it was the gratuity and taxes added on that made it so high. But in the back of my head, I had remembered reading those both accounted for on our final invoice. Before all the Karens come after me, we have been in touch with Shannon the events coordinator and Michelle the owner to have this rectified and have not come to any kind of reconciliation on the additional charges. In fact, Michelle was very rude and encouraged us to "share wherever we want." Our experience was fantastic until now. We would have been shouting to the rooftops how wonderful our night was, and after the year we have all had, I'm sure the Mad Hatter could use some horn tooting. But instead here we are. Be wary of any venue that has these kind of business practices. read more

Mad hatter is an Irish / Irish American diner in South Weymouth. My wife and I like to eat there almost once a week! The qualiy and portioning of the food is worth every penny. I personally enjoy all of the chicken panini sandwiches both breakfast and lunch with the fries which are potato wedges! If you dont eat meat dont worry they have you covered with a veggie option There used to be a breakfast buffet though I'm not sure if it's a seasonal promotion either way that buffett still held its amazing taste! Mad hatter has a banquet room for private events, a large dining section with a small eat up bar which overlooks the kitchen, then a bar with dining available on the patio side! Staff and service are fine this review is strictly for the food. It's not great and I'm not sure what else to say about it. Feels like they cut corners. I've been at least 3 times. Once for there breakfast brunch buffet which was a sad and tasteless mess. Stopped by a few weeks ago after dropping my car off at Weymouth Honda up the street for a service. Was looking for a place to grab breakfast and decided to give this place a try. It's a super small place inside and out (parking wise). my boyfriend and I waited about 15 minutes or so to be seated. The waiting area could use some TLC. its a bit unsightly. The waitress was nice. boyfriend ordered the hungry man and he enjoyed every bit of it. He barely made a dent in it so he took it home and finished it for lunch. I got the steak benedict or something like that, and i wasnt a fan. The homefries that they have are on the mushy side. I prefer mine to be crispy. thats just my preference. The steak was fine but the poached egg let me down. I love eggs benedict, i love the runny egg yolk from the poached eggs, but when I split mine open, it was cooked. super depressing! boyfriend enjoyed his meal and wants to revisit, but next time I'll order something else. read more

Wow amazing breakfast, large pot of tea, peach Bellini and Mexican chocolate coffee where on point, breakfast veg pizza, crapes the berry sauce was popping with flavor, eggs over med with Irish bacon and soda bread with potato home fries with hollandaise sauce. Staff was timely, kind and easy to talk too. Definitely recommend and hope to be in the area to try again, this was our first time. read more

I came here with 2 other people on a Sunday afternoon trying to get brunch. The first place we tried to go to had an 1+ hour wait so we decided to go to a new place. While we were waiting to get seated, I noticed that they were also serving some kind of buffet which kind of confused me. We got seated near the bar and ordered from the brunch menu. We got an Eggs Benedict, the hungry man, and a rib eye steak. Yes, they served a steak for brunch (with eggs and toast). We also ordered a side of potato pancakes because I was interested in them. We didn't think we ordered a lot, but wow....it was a lot of food. The Eggs Benedict with Canadian ham came with cold home fries. It might have been my least favorite item because I wasn't a big fan of the spices on the home fries and the ham was thick. I wasn't expecting it to be that thick, maybe a good 1/2 inch thick ham. The Hungry Man came with eggs, home fries, toast, french toast, bacon, and sausages. The standard brunch items and my brother devoured everything. We asked the rib eye to be medium rare, but it came out a little more medium-well done. It was surprisingly still really juicy and it was great. It was also only...$20. The potato pancakes were delicious and huge, considering that it was a side. To me, it was like a mash potato w/veggies that was shaped and fried and served with spicy ranch. It was delicious. Our waiter was very attentive and kept checking up on us. I assume it was a family restaurant because there were several kids that came to drop off the food to our table. In the past, I have loved this place for breakfast. They have a fairly extensive menu, which includes homemade corn beef hash that is very good in a hash Benedict, and an Irish breakfast complete with black and white pudding. I was excited that they had expanded into a new location with more seating and more parking, as I figured it would alleviate the crowds and waiting times. I went to check it out today, and I was so, so deeply disappointed. Apparently on Sundays, you are only able to get the buffet, and not the full menu. I find that strange, as most places with buffets also offer a menu. If the buffet had included some of their signature options, I might have felt differently, but it was your standard boring chain hotel-style buffet, with scrambled eggs, bacon, and etc, and a toaster that didn't really work. And for that, it cost $28!!! I'm sorry to say, I probably won't be back anytime soon. Even their normal GOOD breakfast is much cheaper than $28, so paying that much for stereo-warmed scrambled eggs and cold toast felt like thievery. read more

Mad Hatter used to be our go to spot. Either you call in and order pick up or you sit down for a lovely meal. There was outside seating at their old location - perfect for a warm day. Now? Everything's changed, and not for the better. Since their move, my husband and I have been back exactly three times. The first weekend, we were told it would be a 90+ minute wait and that they didn't have staff to seat in the front. Ok, so only being open at the new place for about a week, fine. I will give you that... Second time sitting in we actually got a seat. Only a 30min wait so hope was high that things had settled down. Nope. Food took forever to come out, the table next to us had a little girl that was clearly hungry, and then another pair was sat to our right. Filling seats doesn't mean a good restaurant. Fast forward a couple of weeks. Call in to place a pick up order, they aren't taking those kinds of orders yet but you can walk-in and takeout. Ok, sure. I'll drive down, stand waiting, and leave with my sandwiches. Minor inconvenience except when I got there the place is only half-full (still) and apparently they're still short staffed? Today (12/27) is the last straw. Three strikes and you're out. We will not be going back. I ordered two sandwiches to go (again because they can't take orders over the phone). The young lady behind the counter was never really that attentive and over the course of my standing there for 35 minutes, never really moved with any kind of urgency. Indeed, most of the employees I saw were just going through the motions. A thing to note: corned beef hash takes longer to make than sandwiches. The patron that ordered that AFTER me (by quite some time) was served BEFORE me. When I finally got my sandwiches, I went out to the car. Lo and behold, both sandwiches were incorrect. Thankfully, my husband's was fine except for the bread. He was fine eating it. Mine, not at all. So back inside I went. Side note: When handling a complaint, that complaint should become your first priority. Apologize and get the information to the chef to fix it. You don't stand there talking to another guest, you don't take an entire other order, you don't refill coffees. Clearly this young lady doesn't understand food-service prioritization. By the time she got around to going back into the kitchen I had to stop her. It had been 45min at this point and I didn't even have a correct meal. Refunded my money and I got out of there. Another side note: another guest at the counter ordered 2 over easy eggs on two slices of buttered toast. Not complicated. What he got was not even close. I also witnessed the owner either firing or dismissing the chef while standing there. So...good luck to everyone else? Questions for the owner: 1. Why are you trying to run a buffet AND the full regular menu at the same time? 2. What are you doing to train your staff?? 3. Why did you move?!?! You had such a great thing going. It was small, yes, but I cannot believe you're happier here. I don't see any systems in place (waitstaff has no sidework?!), it looked like there were only a couple of food runners but why have runners if you don't have the restaurant full? Servers should be able to handle this task. 4. Why have you given up on your takeout services?! Your hostess today was useless. Inappropriately dressed in an oversized sweater, she looked ready for a day with the girls not the person handling your arriving guests. She could be taking those orders, processing payments and phone calls, and streamlining that entire portion of the program. Final word: We aren't going back. We gave you chances, you blew it. The new residents at your old location, Skillet, are fantastic. Got my sandwich from them, correctly made, in under 15min. read more

The only thing that I didn't like about mad hatter is the wait. So when you arrive make sure to go inside and put your name down. Then proceed to wait in the tent outside. The very cold tent. There are some chairs that are cold metal. We waited for about 25 mins at around 1130 on a Saturday. The food was good though! read more

Went for breakfast today at about 10:00AM. My party (2 people, incl myself) waited 5 minutes to be seated, but they were busy and I didn't mind at all. Restaurants get busy and sometimes you have to wait a bit, which I am completely understanding of, and does NOT factor into my review at all. Cut to sitting down and ordering. Waitress was very happy and helpful. My mom ordered corned beef hash and eggs, I ordered the Mad Hatter special (corned beef in a puff pastry, with eggs on top). We put our order in at maybe 10:15AM. Our food was served at 11AM. 45 minutes for breakfast food? That's a long time, but hey maybe it's worth it. It wasn't. I immediately noticed there was something wrong with my food when I saw that the puff pastry was raw. Not undercooked. Raw. It literally seemed like someone made the pouch of corned beef in the puff pastry, then forgot to cook it, and then put eggs on top. So I said something to my waitress. She offered to bring it back to the kitchen to have them put it back in the oven, but by this time it had been close to an hour and I just wanted to go home. She took the item off the check, but I left a restaurant after an hour and 15 minutes without having eaten any food. That's completely ridiculous, and I'm not going to come back to this place. My mom's food was "fine" but after the whole experience, there are much better places to go. read more

From small place that punched above its weight to... something else entirely. We use to have our kids watch movies in the car, for an hour or more, rain, snow or shine, for what we knew was going to be a great meal. Menu and owner are the same, but, sadly, too much else changed. Have been twice to the new location now. First time whole meal was comp'd, AND offered $50 to return. We refused the money believing they'd figure it out. Trip two 3 months later was some how worse. Even our waitress acknowledged that not only did she hear it from the customers, but that she believed it too. Runny eggs are everywhere, bland potatoes too, the corned beef hash was abysmal, and the pancakes, that were once so perfect, not bad, but different. I wouldn't go out of my way for average, and that's why we kept going back, waiting, tell friends. Please find a way back! read more
