Zero stars for me. We waited to be seated for 20 minutes which isn't bad. It was a little frustrating because half of the restaurant was available for seating. The workers passed by us several times and not one word was said to us. Once seated we immediately felt uncomfortable because the sun was beating down on us. There is no available shade option on the side we were seated. Took us a long time for our order to be taken. We asked to move to the bar seating which was out of the sun but were ignored. The food is overpriced for what they serve and totally not worth it. To top it off there was a hair inside our salt shaker. Horrible experience, horrible service and less than mediocre food. read more

Located near the heart of Old Town, Mad Madeline's is a pretty cool spot to grab a quick bite. The establishment has a very old-school (or what I imagine is supposed to be) burger-joint feel. The burger's themselves are alright. I don't personally consider them to be anything special, but they do taste pretty good. I forgot what I ordered the last time I was there, but I do remember liking the flavor. The fries aren't too bad either. Though the milkshakes need a little work. I'm a sucker for a good ice cream milkshake and I remember thinking that it tasted like something out of a machine. Maybe that was just my impression l, but I was hoping for something maltier. But that was just a minor issue I had. My tastebuds are whack (or at least, so feel they can be at times). Overall my experience here was enjoyable. The food is decent and fairly priced, and when you're done with the meal you can shop around. Everything is within walking distance. read more

We were in Oldtown on Independence Day and thought we'd give them a try. Just moved here from San Diego so we're trying all the popular places. Some have been pretty good, others not so much. Unfortunately MMG was in the later category. We ordered a couple of their $19 hamburgers a split an order of Zucchini sticks. The Zucchini sticks look like they came out of a 20lb bag; definitely not made in house. I was watching the Burgers come out of the Kitchen while we were waiting for our order and was concerned about what I was seeing. When our Burgers arrived, my concern was justified: the burgers were overcooked -- not a drop of moisture to be found. My Wife's Burger was advertised as having "Pork Belly". What she got could best be described as a dried up sliver of a pork chop. On a positive note, the Bacon on my Burger was nicely cooked, and quite flavorful. All in all, pretty disappointing -- and pretty expensive. Spoke with a Neighbor whose a long time Temecula resident about our impression of the food. The guys went here for lunch and i had the chili bowl. The server said it was beef so i was expecting good beef but got hamburger instead. OVER PRICED=$67 for one Turkey Burger and one Veggie Burger, onion rings, fried zucchini, small soda and a root beer float. LONG WAIT=Almost an hour. LIMITED STAFFING=the 2 hostesses were also servers and cleaned the tables. The food was average but The Staff, 2 servers and 2 cooks in the kitchen were professional and warm, despite the stress they were experiencing. As my husband and I were driving around town talking about how every time we go out to eat these days we are disappointed, we decided to go to MM thinking how bad could it be? We've been there before and it was okay, so we felt it was a safe bet. It. Was. Not. First and foremost the young lady who was our server looked (and acted) as though she'd rather be anywhere else. We ordered, she clearly didn't listen, and she brought our food out of order. Moving past her clear blunder on that we got our food, my burger came out about 4 min before my husband's did. Both were dry. Very dry. Hubs got inside of fried zucchini instead of fried and they were decent. My onion rings were terrible. I asked for no onion (red onion) and yet it was on the burger. It would have been easy to get past it if the food was any good, but it wasn't. Perhaps we would have let our server know if she stopped by to ask. Hmm... this place is a little place located in Old Town Temecula. We were on our way to take care of something and were very hungry. We had to stop by at this joint to check it out. We had got sat down very quickly, which was nice. Then, heading to the bathroom was very interesting. Their was a woman and a child trying to open the door to the bathroom. They had placed the code, but the door wouldn't open. We had got someone to help us out, but I guess there was a trick to it. It would have been nice if they had informed us originally how to turn the nob to the door for it to open. Okay, let's go back to the food. Our food came out in a timely manner. Each of us got a burger, and we all order their famous burger. This little place had mister all around, which helped to keep the place cool. I would say it is an alright place to be only if you want a quick bite. I can't say it will be rememberable for us to come back again if we are in the area. read more

On December 26th at approximately 4:10 PM, I had the worst experience at this restaurant. I am a disabled veteran. After waiting in line for approximately 30 minutes, I was seated by one waitress/hostess. She seats us for 3, then goes into the kitchen. As soon as she turned the corner, another waitress comes into the dining area from the other end of the kitchen. Rather than be level-headed, she was immediately accusatory and rude. What began as "You are supposed to wait to be seated" immediately escalated to "you aren't welcomed here. We reserve the right to refuse service. Leave or we will call the cops." She then stormed off to the kitchen. Peering through the view port, I saw the waitress that seated us. Her eyes widened, clearly horrified about the mistake that was just made. I saw her mouth something to the effect of "No! Not them! I seated them!" At this time, the manager comes out throwing his weight around. "You need to leave or we will be calling the cops. I'm the manager!" At this, we decide it best to simply leave. But because I witnessed the waitress that seated us seemingly sticking up for us, as we get up to leave I tell the obstinate manager "Hey, it looks like the girl that seated us is setting the record straight back there. I am willing to accept an apology." The manager declared that isn't happening. So we left. I believe I handled this situation in the most graceful way possible. I gave multiple chances to resolve this fiasco, but the pigheaded employees were unwavering in their vile behavior. This entire time, the malice and bigotry were palpable. As we were leaving, the large family that was behind us in line tried to stick up for us, stating "No, they were in line! They were in front of us!" But the manager instantly spat out more accusations at me "are you with this group!?" - because all mestizos look the same, huh? Whether the family behind us left in solidarity or was also kicked out, I do not know. But they left immediately after we did. These idiotic employees costed this business at least 10 meals worth of revenue. This number will continue to grow if I have anything to say about it. This disrespect towards veterans and their family members will not go unanswered. Unfortunately, I've come down with a bad case of the flu, hence my delay in writing this review. Once I am 100% recovered, you can expect me in front of this establishment with family, friends, and signs. We will be warning all people, but especially my fellow veterans, to steer clear of this place. Hopefully I receive some correspondence from an owner, so we can deal with this sleight amicably. read more

TL;DR: Bad food, bad service, ludicrous prices. Avoid if you value your time and money. ------------------------ In all my life, I have never left a review for anything. Online reviews have hardly ever been helpful to me in determining whether or not I'd end up enjoying something. Life is subjective, after all, and one man's disgust is another's delight. As such, I did not consult any reviews prior to visiting Mad Madeline's Grill (MMG) tonight. Perhaps I should have, and it is out of a sense of duty that I try to warn others here and now. There was a line out the door when I pulled in tonight. Surely a mark of quality, I thought. I waited in line for no less than half an hour, despite the patio being visibly half-empty. Many tables, though long unoccupied, were still cluttered with the empty plates of previous patrons. The waitstaff seemed too harried to tend to this bottleneck, and they had my sympathy. Management should hire more help. On my way in, I noticed a sign on the door that explained an 8% "inflation charge" would be added to the bill, and did not count towards a standard gratuity. I felt this was silly at first, and upon seeing the menu prices for the food items, found it to be downright mercenary. $25 for a cheeseburger. At least it came with fries. And hey, it had won awards. So what if it was expensive, there's a reason this place does so well. Tonight's a splurge anyway. I ordered the chile relleno burger; my dining companion had the fish sandwich ($21). 2 fountain drinks were $7- not the most unreasonable, but still relatively steep. I also noticed, but did not order, that upgrading fries to onion rings would have been an additional $6. Milkshakes were $12, a hot dog plate was $23. All of these seemed grossly inflated. The food took forever to arrive. When it was finally delivered, the burger was enormous, yes, but also largely greasy, flavorless, and inconvenient to eat (the chile atop the burger was more akin to a fried palm frond). The fries were like the ones at In-N-Out but worse. I asked a waitress for hot sauce, which never came. At least drink refills were free. As I choked down the last bites of the burger (I wasn't letting it go to waste for that price), a terrible sense of doom spread through my nervous system, and I felt as if I'd made a grave mistake. We left without a word, our dissatisfaction palpable. I truly felt awful after the burger, and went home to shower. I couldn't stand the smell that it had left on my hands or in my beard, and felt weighed down by the grease bomb in my stomach. $70. For two sandwiches, two fountain drinks, and a tip for the poor waitstaff. The food was mediocre at best, and was delivered after an hour total of wait time. This place is more expensive than practically anything comparable, and the food is not good enough to justify its absurd prices, let alone its laughable inflation charge. If any of the variables had been different-- the prices, the wait time, the quality of the food-- I would not be leaving this review. But because I felt my time and money gouged for a meal I'd have regretted even if it were free, I'm angry and want to speak up here. I will not be returning to MMG. Truthfully, I have no idea how they've stayed in business this long. read more

Had to try this as they were rated the best burgers in the area. GOOD. I honestly don't remember what we ordered as it was months ago now. Burgers for sure and we both loved them and also loved the fries. We were not a bit disappointed. It was a little chilly, as it was all outside type seating, but we'd definitely come again. The burger was out in about 10-15 minutes and the hotdog, yes the hotdog, was out in about 30+ minutes... There were only two servers on the floor and both engaged in quite long conversations with certain guests, it seemed that they knew. If you were looking for a mouthwatering burger, full of flavor, so juicy, do you need several napkins because the juice just flows down your fingers into your hand, you can taste the quality of the cheese melted perfectly on that quality beef patty then I recommend you go someplace else. Award-winning burger joint in old town. Temecula is far from award-winning. The burger was flavorless dry as a desert, I could not be more disciplined. Recalling my days as a teenager working in fast food, I remember you would pre-cook a bunch of patties and leave them in a little bit of water then just heat them up when new burger orders came in. This is exactly the feeling I had when I fit into this disappointing burger the only juice that came out of this burger was the mayonnaise and ketchup that I had to drown it in just to give it some flavor. As if it wasn't bad enough one of my pet peeves for any restaurant is Win, the food you order never comes out all at the same time. Meaning that I was with two other people and my burger probably came out in three or four minutes after I had ordered it that includes the time the server had to input it into the system and it to hit the kitchen. Then maybe six or seven minutes after that did the rest of the food come out for the other people at the table. I'm being conservative it may have been closer to 10. The server was very pleasant. Very nice. She answered her questions. That was not the problem. The problem was the terrible food that came to our table. They got one of the orders wrong had to be sent back on top of everything else. Sad to say it was about 3 o'clock in the afternoon and I hadn't eaten anything since the day before, so I was starving... That said the burger still went down. So if you happen to be in Temecula old town and you want a really good burger, keep step and don't make the mistake I did and come into this place. This place was really good and we thoroughly enjoyed their award winning Chili Relleno burgers! The chili relleno was filled with lots of cheese and the overall burger was tasty and quite large. The fries that come with it were delicious too, which include the potato skin, which my family likes. So, I was checking out Mad Madeline's on Yelp to show a family member some pictures and saw that they only had 3 stars. As of now I haven't made many review on Yelp, but the fact that I have been to Mad Madelines numerous amount of time I felt I needed to contribute to the conversation. First, yes parking is not great at all, but what do you expect when you go to down town anywhere. For example, when people go to down town San Diego or even Las Vegas we do not expect to find parking....anywhere...you walk, you Uber, or you don't go. Second, almost every single time I have gone to Mad Madelines it has been busy. It's a great restaurant, what...do....you....expect...? I rather be at a great restaurant that is taking more time to get my food prepared than to go to a restaurant that does not care about the quality and get my food fast. If you want a fast prepared meal go to McDonald's. And yes, chick fil a has bomb food and serves fast, but those are called an "anomaly". Plus Mad Madelines is not a fast food chain, so comparing them would not make sense...moving on... Third, if any of the lower star ratings came recently after the Covid shut down...they shouldn't even count...Yelp should fix that. Everyone knows labor went down...cost of some good may have gone up, availability....etc...have some patience... Lastly, my overall review of this restaurant (over 10x at least) is outstanding. The food has always been on point. Even though online ordering, no mistakes. The price is definitely more than fast food, but I am not going to write a dissertation on why we should not compare a fast food chain to a sit down restaurant. Burgers, burgers, burgers, hot dogs....and beer...that is what we have tried. I will be back to try the famous ribs....I'm surprised we have gone this long without trying them... Been craving a hamburger for days and was in Old Town Sunday. Settled on Mad Madelines...I had a burger there years ago and it was memorable, juicy, fresh and messy! Order taken for a small cheeseburger by waitress....medium and can you please cook the fries crispy. Ordered delivered within 10 minutes, bad sign...fries pale and limp, cold.... opened bun and burger resembled a hockey puck, well done, dry, cold with cheese obviously cold too. No thank you.....I put my dish aside and waited for waitress to return to check on us. Never happened. Finally went to window with my dish and told them I could not eat this. She wanted to know what was wrong with it. I relayed all the details and asked her to remove it from our bill. What happened to the quality of their food? I understand they see alot of weekend tourist and may not care about repeat business but maybe they should consider some of us are locals and could be your forever customer. read more

Today we have mozzarella(no flavor), fried pickles(great but bottled ranch), kids meal, Texas dog(only good thing), strawberry shake, and a burger we had them take off because they gave it to us 15 min after everyone else was eating. They forgot the shake at first and we hadn't seen the waitress who right from the start was not in the mood to do service. Our food took forever but the people next to us of course they were older got there food fast. Don't forget your tipped based off service not just because your entitled to it. I loved the ice on the soda .I was part of 8 people in our group ,I received good service and the waiter was very patient with all of us .I was given their pineapple Dole whip on the house I didn't expect that and explained to the waiter I was not doing so hot on money but I still tipped him. When I get paid on the first I'm going to Mad Madeline's Grill to try out the pork ribs and I'm Jewish. I had a bacon cheeseburger (asked for a double patty which seemed to confuse the waiter). The burger wasn't anything special but wasn't horrible. The side of fries were fresh and crisp. The service on the other hand SUCKED. My waiter made it seem like it was a daunting task to get cheese fries. I said what kind of fries do you all serve here said the closest we have is chilli cheese fries. I asked for those and to hold the chilli... he had to check to see if that was possible?!?. I asked for a refill on my drink ( it's a 109 today) he refilled the glass with a drink only and was too lazy to put more ice in the glass. One of the waitresses saw my displeasure and come over to rectify to issue. Perhaps it was just the one waiter but not a good look on the place and my meal was stupid expensive for such poor service.
