Pathetic customer service. I had ordered Puri for my kid which came with spicy sides. My kid couldn't take the spice and so requested the guy in the counter some ghee for the spicy sides. Had waited 7 mins to be precise to get ghee. How ridiculous is it? By then my kid had already done with dinner. What a waste of money Not going there anymore. Dosas are good here. Chutneys and sambhar are well made. Filling in the paneer dosas can be well seasoned (it tastes a bit bland). Customer service can be improved a lot. read more

They make the best pongal in town, hands down. Atleast from what I've tasted, i liked theirs. The dhai vada was really good and my husband like their coffee, a lot. We dropby once in a fortnight and they never disappoint. But yes, id like a better customer service coz most of the time the counter will be empty and we'd have to wait if we need something. Also the spoons and water and far back from the tables! Its ok if they dont set the tables, but id be glad to atleast grab them from near the counter rather than having to walk up to their far end for a tissue!! This is a good spot for simple, non-spicy dosas etc. We loved the Vada, it was light and fluffy not dense/dry - if only judging by the Vada I would give 4 stars! However, the Sambar and Idli and Masala all have too much sugar and not enough flavor. The onion rava masala dosa was missing the expected overdose of onions, so I was a little disappointed about that. The texture of the dosas was crispy and light, very good. The interior of the restaurant is very clean. Overall, I might bring a newbie to Indian food here, or children - but for me, I prefer more traditional spicy dosa style. read more

Many comments here mention wait times. I must agree that the wait times are longer than in other Indian restaurants in the bay area. But 1-hour wait is rather too much of an exaggeration. I have switched allegiance to MMC for a few reasons - 1. The place is always clean 2. The food is always freshly made (one reason for delay). For example, they make the vada only after the order. They don't reheat. 3. Amazing consistency in food quality. This place serves most yummy items - I never tried the lunch here, but their dosa varieties, pongal, vada, etc are always fantastic. 4. Generous quantity of sides (sambar, chutney, etc) so that you don't have to keep asking. This is a huge plus. I too was not happy about the wait time during my first two visits but noticed that only one person is managing the shop first one hour in the morning. He keeps very busy and is very practical. If you are in a desperate hurry, this is perhaps not the place. There are many places that can give reheated food very fast. But if you want to enjoy true South Indian food in a clean practical environment, don't mind an additional 15 minutes compared to other similar places, MMC is a benchmark to beat. read more

Ordered Ghee Podi Masala Dosa, Rava Kesari, and Badam Milk on Doordash. Dosa was crispy and both dosa and masala filling were super yummy and authentic. Podi flavour was on point authentic too, unlike some other South Indian places. Rava Kesari was quite good as well, could have had a bit more quantity for $4.99. Badam Milk was too quite small in quantity (came in a small half cup) but flavour was good. read more

A little disappointed with the quality of food on two different occasions. Once when I ordered a tamarind rice, I was told it was puliyodharai, instead it was just tamarind and chillies and rice, nothing else. Y'day when we asked for upma and vada, the vada was super hard, felt like it was reheated. The upma was too gooey. Any of the mustard was not heated or crackled properly. We go here primarily because it's walking distance from our place. It's small, neat and (mostly) clean. The staff are nice but they are tardy. Each time we have gone here, we see plates not being cleared from the tables in time. We have liked the ghee dosa and rava dosa although the medu vada could have been a bit crispier. The Onion Rava Masala Dosa is the best Rava dosa that I've had in the South Bay. The Dosa comes with Sambar (A lentil soup) and 3 Chutneys - Coconut, Coriander and Mint, tomato and Garlic Chutneys as accompaniments. The Sambar has perfectly cooked vegetables flavored with a generous amount of clarified butter. Everything is delicious and reasonably priced. I have been to the store a couple of times for breakfast/brunch/lunch. The food is good and I am a fan. They have a lot of space. Service can be slow but food is good enough to ignore the service. A decent place for South Indian food. Though they carry the usual idli, Dosa and other South Indian dishes, their Sambhar and all 3 chutney varieties - coconut, tomato and coriander - need a special mention. The idlis were soft and fluffy and medhu vadas were crispy. Pongal was simply superb. However, the masala vada was too salty. I didn't personally try the food, but my wife ordered the karam masala dosa and said she loved it. The prices were super reasonable too. $7.40 after tax for a big ass dosa, sambhar, and three chutneys. I also noticed on the menu that an order of 12 mini idlies was less than $5. Sounds like a steal! We actually confused this place with 'Madurai Idli Kadai', which is just down the street and which was the place that we thought we were actually going to be eating at, but it looks like we made a beneficial mistake. Madurai Idli Kadai is not rated as good and I doubt they can beat the value and quality of Madurai Modern Cafe. The place is not easily noticeable from the street because they don't have a sign with the restaurant name. However, if you plop it into your GPS, you'll figure out where it is (right next door to the Seven Eleven) because all other 3 corners of the intersection contain residential housing complexes. read more

Very impressed with the quality of food at the restaurant. We had ordered pongal, sambar vada, masala dosa and kesari - all of which were fresh and tasty. I remember dosas back in Vegas on a buffet and why I don't know but I was craving one. After some yelp work I wound up here. Nice little place and it's clean and bathrooms are clean as well. My first time here and I asked 2233 questions and the lady was super nice and helped me. I wound up getting the onion masala dosa and for something new and I never heard of I'm trying Medu Vada. Crossing fingers haha. The price is right and for this I paid 11 and some change. Taking awhile for the food and I'm here alone. Hope that means it's super fresh and not from a damn microwave. Took near 30 minutes to come out. I'm not a big fan of the Vada just a doughy donut. The Dosa is pretty good and huge. The problem is the potato mixture is about 4 inches round and in the center. Wish it was throughout the whole thing. It's not bad but I won't be back. It's me and one other table and I have seen 3 employees yet watched 3 different groups walk in and stand for awhile and then just leave since nobody I guess saw them. This is a decent place. The food is good. But the one thing that stands out is the absolute lack of any expression on the cashier/owner and staff which comes across as rude. No smile, no pleasantries, nothing. She takes the order, gives a look which suggests she is amused and rings up the bill. The waiter does the same! Suggestion: if you run a restaurant, be friendly to your guests! Smile. Say something to them. It will go a long way in getting repeat business. And it's free! read more

We placed our first take out order Idli and vada quality was very nice. Idli was very soft and far better than other places in Bay Area. Medu vada and masala vada was very nice as well. The texture was soft and crispy outside even for a take out order. Sambar was tasty too and chutnies were fair. One chutney was sweet which was not liked by us. Felt a bit more salt in coconut chutney. Overall was very pleased with the food and packaging. The order was a bit late from when expected to be ready. Worst attitude ever. Food is decent and I have ordered before so this review is maInly based on a super bad experience with one of their staff members. I had called in and ordered food for takeout and they requested me to come after 40 mins. I call them and no one is picking up. I try 10 times but no answer. So I decide to drive there and check incase they are too busy to pick up. Once I reach there there are hardly 10 people there. I am waiting at the counter to inquire abouT my order. A guy comes from the kitchen and asks me to wait using hand gestures. I tell him that I had ordered almost an hour ago, he angrily says then why are you coming to pickup after an hour. I try to tell him they it was them who told me to come after 40 mins. He starts talking nonsense and tells me that it's my fault that I am coming in late. I tell him then please cancel my order. He taunts me saying yeah cancel the order I don't care and i am not dependent on you or your order. I ask him to mind his business and leave. I see he comes behind me and outside the restaurant to probably fight some more. I am too tired of talking with such fools and decide that I am never eating there ever again and will tell everyone I know to not do that because they don't have good sense of customer service or business. I ordered Masala Dosa, and it was good. The spicy soup that comes with it needed salt - it was just spicy with not much of a taste. Wish there was a salt shaker on the table. The mango lassi was very good but comes in a small plastic cup - they could charge more and give us a larger cup. One thing they should tone down is the burning incense next to their cash register. Looks like they are temporarily closed. I went for lunch about a week and a half ago and left my credit card there. I kept calling them after but no response. I went back to the restaurant only to see a hand written note that they are temporarily closed due to unavailable circumstances. Not sure when they plan to reopen. The only time I went there, the food was good. We ordered rava spring dosa, idli and poori. It was all delicious. Hope they reopen soon although I am also suspicious of the 'unavoidable' circumstances for the closure. read more
