When I say I love donuts, i genuinely, wholeheartedly mean I am *in love* with donuts. No matter where I am, if I spot a donut shop, i'm there in a heartbeat. As someone who frequents the Culver Plaza often, you can bet i'm at Mag's constantly--and love it! This little donut shop is one of my favorites in Irvine, and I prefer coming here than a lot of the other hyped donut shops around OC. They offer a large range of donuts and pastries, It's close to campus, it's rarely crowded, and the staff is friendly and helpful! I personally adore their doughsants/cronuts! They have many flavors, and fillings to choose from like nutella, maple, strawberry, chocolate etc. If you come in the morning, they're still fresh and warm too! I've never had the "original" cronut, but the pastries that Mag's make are soft and sweet like a donut, but have the flaky buttery consistency of a croissant! Their other classic donut shop staples, like the rings, bars, twists are perfect. You can't go wrong with ordering them. They aren't overwhelmingly sweet or cakey--they're exactly what you hope for in small independent bakeries like Mag's. I also quite like their cakey ones, like the old-fashioned donuts, their muffins, and their blueberry donuts. They're more firm and although they aren't my personal favorite, they have great flavors! I also highly recommend their bear claws for apple fritter lovers! All in all, I can't say anything bad about Mag's. I go to this place daily not because of the quality, but the convenience as it's on my way to work. The quality of their donuts is hit & miss, but typically average. They have a huge selection, but definitely focus more on quantity than quality. The prices are not outrageous, but a tad bit more (cents difference) than other places such as Donut Star or DK's Donuts. There were a few occasions where I witnessed an employee picked up a donut using her bare hand. Place seems under staffed, or not enough employees trained to handle the morning rush by working with the general public. I do love the look of their brand design as it looks like it would be expensive, but donuts are still reasonably priced. Parking is never a problem. Stopped in quickly to satisfy my sweet tooth. A dozen donut holes for $2.50. The blueberry holes were my favorite.. Very dense and filled with blueberry flavor. The glazed donut holes were good.. Tip: Don't come here 5 minutes before closing. Arrived at Mag's 5 minutes before 9pm only to find out it closes at 9. They didn't have a lot of donuts left and their infamous blueberry donuts were already sold out too. Boo. Of the few measly ones left, we got a regular glazed donut and one of those long butterscotch tasting ones. They were kinda dry and meh :-( But I'm feeling nice and bumped them to three stars because the guy working there was so nice and gave us a free donut. Mag's is a couple of doors down from Wholesome Choice where I grab a quick lunch from time to time. It's a small bakery with no seating inside but there is a rather large seating area outside near there if you want to enjoy the morning or afternoon sun/air. The croissant sandwich ($3.20 +tax) comes with egg, a slice of cheese, and ham (you can opt for bacon instead). It's already made and located in the glass display when you are ready to order. I would be happy to wait the extra few minutes to have it freshly made to order but I guess it's not done here to save time. I ordered one and the lady warmed it up the big croissant for me in the microwave they have there to melt the cheese and warm the sandwich a bit. The only problem with that is that since the sandwich had cooked egg in it already, warming it up in the microwave makes the egg stiff and tasteless. However, it didn't make the croissant soggy though which is nice. This place does get a lot of regulars since the lady behind the counter seems to recognize several of the patrons there while I waited for my food item to warm up. Terrible. I've had their donuts a total of three times. Today was the LAST STRAW. Their donuts are never fresh. The coffee is overcast and stale. Their frostings are all poorly done and taste the same, no distinguished flavor between strawberry or even vanilla. Bizarre. The cake donuts are sad. Finally, the cronuts are a very sad interpretation of the fad confection. Today, my third time having their product, I ordered via Uber eats. The ONLY reason I gave them my business over the infinitely better Donuttery, they serve coffee. That is IT. But today, I can't even contain how terrible the experience was. First- their pricing model on the app is horrendous. They charge you for a half or full dozen and then ADD a surcharge if you'd like to select your own preferred flavors. I ordered coffee (the catalyst for selecting them) and requested extra cream. I got a measly two creamers. Such a brilliantly awful experience. Never again. read more

Fortunately, I'm too lazy to do that or I'd be one fat dude. I've been to all the donut shops in Irvine and all of them are a distant second when compared to Mag's. As far as Irvine goes this is the best place to get your donuts! I can have Mag's donuts for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You know how yummy some donuts look and when you bite into it their's just no substance. Mag's Donuts are like a hot girl that goes to Harvard...Their donuts not only look good but have substance, slightly crispy on the outside, super moist and fluffy on the inside, and what do ya know...it tastes so good! My recommendations are the Outstanding blueberry donuts and if you feel like mixin it up grab croissant breakfast sandwich (3/5 stars only cuz i can make it at home) with 2 options are egg cheese with either ham or bacon or just egg and cheese. Bring Cash, but if you're like me you will go over their $5 minimum for their Credit/ATM option. FITNESS TIP: there's 251 cal in an avg donut. To burn those delisous calories mix in 20 squats, 50 crunches, 10 pushups, a jog around the block for 3 minutes. repeat 2 more times!!! Then grab another donut :D read more

I've had the opportunity to try blueberry donuts from several doughnut shops, and I have to say that Mag's is definitely one of my top two favorite places to go! What really pushes them on top for me are the blueberry donut holes! They're crunch and soft, with a good blueberry flavor! So delicious! I also love the ham and cheese croissants from here! The ham portion of the croissant is thicker than most other places I've been to. It's satisfying for a quick breakfast on the go. And they open really early! The staff is usually really friendly, and easy to talk to. Also very quick with service. The negative, albeit a rather large negative, is that most often when I visit, I often see flies flying around or even on the donuts themselves. (Luckily the blueberry donuts are in a separate container, above the glass display and I don't see this often happen to the blueberry donuts, but the doughssant/cronut selection they have is on the lower portion where flies tend to settle). Solid selection of traditional donuts and creative cake donuts. Have yet to try their conuts... :( But, this is my go to spot when it's my turn to bring donuts for our office donut club. What keeps me coming back is that their donuts always taste fresh and have a nice consistency throughout each bite. A box of 2 dozen currently runs you at just under $20. I've been coming here since I was a kid and not only did they slap a paint job on it and move two doors down, they chose to increase their pricing by what seemed like 300%. I have lived in Irvine for a long time and this was the first time I have ever been to a Mags Donuts. We usually go to Donut Star, Janny's, Randy's (Costa Mesa) or the occasional splurge on Duck Donuts, Side Car or Oliboli. My son has been blown away at the rising costs of donuts now a days and were researching places online thinking that lots of initial great reviews were going to make buying overly priced donuts worth it!! Well that is where we were dead wrong!! The first and last visit to this Mags Donuts was bad from beginning to end and I am not one to just complain about customer service and not talk about the food, but these were both equally disappointing! Upon walking in the gentleman behind the counter was very rude!! For instance, most people like to look at the donut case or the menu for a minute or two before deciding on their selections. He instantly asked if we were ready and seemed annoyed as we looked at the donuts. We asked him to hold on for a minute and he went away for a second and came back when another customer entered the store and said ready now even though it had been only 30 seconds. They were not ready either so I am not sure what the rush was all about? So my son says it's ok mom, can we get a dozen donut holes? This seems to annoy the gentleman and he proceeds to shove them into a paper baggy not paying much attention to what he's doing. I disregard my initial reaction that these are very small and don't look fresh!!! We find out later he only put 8 in the bag and they are stale!!!! Awful because they cost $3.50 for a dozen and this is a extra that is from the making of donuts and most donut stores used to give them away!!! Terrible!! Back to the gentleman!! He then keeps saying ok anything else in a rude tone after each donut like we were bothering him by being in the store. We asked for glazed donuts and he gave us twists which we could not see because they were once again, in the bag!!! Anyway the last thing this man did blows me away, after the 5th time of annoyingly asking anything else, my son says he might want a coffee and he hears this and says he wants coffee? I say yes maybe a cappucino!! That's where he says to us that he does not have it or I guess does not want to make it and says there if he want that there is a Starbucks closeby? We could not believe it!! He would rather have us go to Starbucks then make a coffee and lose the business?? We decide nothing else and at this point we have not tasted anything yet. The donut holes and 4 donuts came to nearly $12!! We leave the business and my son tastes the dry, sad and small (8 donut holes) and then tastes his first donut and he is completely underwhelmed!! The donut is small and seems like it is a day old that was just the rainbow sprinkle and the twists which we did not order, are not much better! Sadly, this may be a long time Irvine donut institution but we will not be returning!! Frankly, my 11 year old daughter said not to go here because Donut Star is the best and unfortunately she was right! Donut Star is 10x better, fresher, cheaper and closer!!! Ever since M&M blueberry donuts, I was in the search for blueberry donuts in Orange County. Luckily through some search, I discovered that Mag's had them and it was closer to where I live too..ding ding ding! This past weekend, I went ahead and picked some up. The donut itself was very airy, but the flavor was not as strong as what I've had at The Donuttery. I also prefer the texture at The Donuttery as it feels richer. The maple bar was pretty good. A lot better than other maple bars I've had. As expected, the donut had airy texture and the maple just melted in my mouth. Very yummy. I am very disappointed in my donuts today. Due to the "safer at home" requirement, I decided to order donuts. I specified which ones I wanted, and I spent more money on these donuts than I would ever spend normally. Well, out of 19 donuts, 5 of them were the ones I ordered. The others, were no at all what I asked for. I understand that if they were out they would substitute, but seriously, I ordered one old fashioned, and they sent me 7. I am the only one who eats them.
