Precovid I've ordered here several times from the to go counter.. nothing memorable. Came back last week and dined in (didn't know they even had a dining area). The sushi was awesome! Tables were spread a part; I felt safe. Reasonable prices and so much food. For 2 people, we ordered 3 rolls and 1 appetizer to share. SO. MUCH. FOOD. And we eat a lot. Had basically a whole roll left to take home. I never write reviews but a week later, I am still thinking about it. Can't wait to come back more often. read more

It's a create your own sushi, choose your own protein, toppings and sauce deal! I love the concept of "create your own to-order sushi roll" at a decent price mind you not and pretty filling for three if you place two orders! I love fresh made sushi's! We did not dine in, we sat outside, and ate by the sushi bar. Good thing we did, Sushi Chef gave us complimentary sushi's on top of our entrée! Unexpected delight for sure! Domo Arigato Chef !!! YUM! Had never been to the market before so we had no idea what to expect. Employees were friendly. Took us a minute to figure out how it worked but you order at the cashier then either sit or take your food to go. Seems obvious but when you're there it looks a little confusing. Food was AMAZING. Other reviewers said rolls were huge and wow, they are! Some pieces had to be eaten in two bites! Super worth every penny. Flavor was fresh and delicious. And had originals I have never tried before. Came in as a party of 4, not a busy night at all.. and ordered 3 rolls and one spicy squid. Our meal came before the sushi... 20 min later.. food is getting cold but our friend didn't want to eat without us.. so we ask... 10 min later... no sushi.. 20 more mind we finally start asking the sushi chefs and bypass the server.. they say they don't know what I'm talking about.. finally we threaten to walk out and the server calls the manager who is not in the restaurant.. on a Friday night.. he says he's on his way and 5 min later he walks in and makes the sushi himself... they do take the rolls off the bill but nothing else. This place didn't look like much as we were walking by it. Grant it,it's sitting in a location with several other great restaurants nearby. My wife was craving sushi so this was the place to go in. The drinks were perfect, hot sake is always a must when you're at a sushi spot. We loved the decor,it was very traditional to Japan. The sushi was perfect and the fish was very fresh. The rolls are really big so don't over order unless you like leftover sushi. All and all,great sushi spot in midtown ATL. We will definitely come back. read more

I was kind of skeptical with it being in a food hall but OMG this was the BEST sushi I have had ever! They are large rolls and big amount in each one! I have to say, I enjoyed this place more when it was Craft Izakaya. The location has gone through some changes. The current set up offers table service like Craft Izakaya did but the menu is "bar food" style tapas, select sushi options, and a create your own sushi menu. If you are a vegetarian, your only options will be the edamame and the create your own sushi menu. I did a "create your own" and there were lots of options for customization. Every roll is $11.95 which I'm not a fan of. Veggie rolls are almost always cheaper everywhere else. The rolls are 10 pieces and fairly large but not the best I've ever had. My roll was served in a boat shaped dish that made it difficult to pick up without it falling apart. Flat plates would be better. The service was fine- no complaints there. The atmosphere was also fine- good music and a pretty vibrant setting. Let's just say Makimono get's the job done if you need to eat but there are far better options at Krog Market and far better sushi options in ATL. read more

I give this place three stars because of their service. I've been to this place twice. The first time was great and the staff was very accommodating. Two of us ate and this restaurant and my other friend got food from another vendor, but she was allowed to bring her food in to the restaurant. A few weeks later I brought a few family members to Krog Street Market and I decided to eat here again. My cousin chose to eat here too and the other got food from another place. We arrived about 10 minutes before the dining area opened and asked if we could eat in there. This was when I started to feel uneasy about this place. It seemed as though the manager didn't want us in the restaurant and although all the tables were open, we could only sit in the front. Also, when our other party arrived we were told that we couldn't bring in food from other vendors and we had to leave. It just felt like the manager didn't want us there. The food was ok. It was like any other sushi restaurant, but the service is awful and very unwelcoming. I'd recommend eating somewhere else. read more

Poor customer service. My kids were hungry, so I didn't openly complain. We made our order at 8:15pm. We were told that we couldn't sit in the restaurant because the dining room was closed. That was very disappointing after having just paid nearly $70 for our order. read more

One of the best sushi rolls I've ever had. They let you create your own sushi roll. I choose to have: spicy crab salad, shrimp tempura, avocado, picked daikon, pickled carrots, Parmesan sauce, sesame seeds and seasoned seaweed salad. I called in right before the lunch special turned to dinner special (I was looking to get a lunch portion and the employee was kind enough to let me put in my order so that I'd still get the lunch. Everything with the food was great and tasty but after paying and taking my order to eat at the sit down counter, the same employee took another order and loudly in my direction made it a point to say thanks for the tip. I usually don't take things like this personally but he made it clear it was a comment on my lack of tip when paying with my card. Unbeknownst to him I had taken cash out to put in the tip jar on my way out after I was done eating at the sit down counter. So all in all the food was good but the service was a bit rude. Of course I understand his feelings of disappointment but he assumed something that wasn't true and tried to make me feel bad about it. I finished my meal and put his tip (the thank you for letting me place my lunch order in ) in the jar but I probably will not be back due to the service. read more

Great sushi restaurant in Krog street market- each roll is $11.95 which we found reasonable. We ordered the island roll and it was INCREDIBLE, would highly recommend. It was very flavorful and had a generous amount of eel sauce and spicy mayo drizzled over top. We also ordered a $5 appetizer of "Japanese corn dogs," which were pretty much tempora-fried coating around small corn dogs- nothing super special but it was crispy and satisfying. The restaurant was a bit loud but our waitress was timely and friendly. We were overall very happy with our experience! read more

I visited Makimono's walk up stall at Krog Street market earlier today. It was a gorgeous day so there were a lot of people out and about the market, but the line here wasn't so bad. I'd been craving sushi and was excited to try Makimono since I've heard great things. They have a large selection of sushi rolls, noodles, and soup, but I opted for sushi. Even though there were only three people in front of me I probably waited 8-10 minutes to order so it wasn't a stellar start in terms of service. I ordered one single sushi roll and was given my number and told to wait for it to be called. After waiting...and waiting...and waiting for my small order, I started to hear other numbers later than mine called. When I approached the counter and asked for an update, I was told that my ticket was never given to the chef so it hadn't even been started. The person at the counter did apologize, but I didn't get the sense that he cared all that much about my being inconvenienced. My sushi roll, The Lambada, was delicious and looked gorgeous. However, the service just ruined the experience for me. At a place built on the model that a group can go to different stalls to get food and eat together, the stall service really needs to improve. The rest of my party waited 15 minutes to eat after they'd gotten their food from other places because I was waiting on my sushi. read more

Worst service ever! I was there on a Wednesday night, took close to an hour to get our meal and there was only 3 tables with people. What's worse is that rather than apologizing about the poor service, our waitress made excuses- THIS IS NOT GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE! We were really pleasantly surprised by our sushi here! At $9.95 per generously sized 10 piece roll, this is one of the best bargains inside of Krog Street Market. Even a hungry adult will be satiated by just one roll, and there aren't many full meals for under $10 at KSM, much less ones that are this delicious. We sampled the Ellie and the Lambada roll, and both were stuffed full of fresh, silky fish. The flavors of each roll were complex and interesting, and the rolls were decked out with creative and beautiful garnishes (french friend onion strings? yum!). My dad, who lives on the beach and has access to great seafood, couldn't stop raving about it. I'm just glad I live so close! The only thing that needs to be streamlined is their ordering/delivery processes. The seating inside is now open to anyone in the market, but it's not really clear if they'll bring your order to you when it's ready. Also, there's no place to get water close by. The bar should really have a water dispenser and glasses available. Since there are only a handful of sushi rolls on the menu, I'd also love to see a "grab and go" section with rolls, since I could definitely see swinging by here after work to pick up a quick dinner to go. read more

EXTREMELY RUDE WAITER! Visited Krog Market for the first time yesterday, (8/1/2019) not too much to choose from, I'm a major foodie and Japanese cuisine is my favorite so I decided to try this place. I checked out the menu and decided to order with a guy in the outside of the restaurant. He asked if I wanted anything to drink and I asked if I could possibly sit at the bar and order he said yes so I went inside and sat at the bar. A young man came over to my friend and I and asked me what I wanted. I told him I had already ordered and he told me I needed to sit outside since I ordered outside. I said I didn't want to sit out there and he asked if I paid already and I told him no and he said it was fine then since didn't already pay. I told him I was told I could sit inside because I didn't want to sit outside and made a statement as to why everyone kept trying to get me to sit where I didn't want to sit. He then turned to me with an attitude (his body language was giving off that he had a problem with me having a problem with not being able to sit where I want) and said "Are you ok today?" I replied that I was fine and I already knew what I wanted so in the process of me telling him he walked off and said he was telling someone else to help me. I refuse to spend my money in any establishment where I'm being treated unfairly so I got up and left. That's is the most rude and disrespectful reaction you can give in a CUSTOMER SERVICE POSITION! His approach, demeanor, and the way he was taking to me is unacceptable. Not to mention the fact that I was starving and I ended up going somewhere that I didn't want and didn't enjoy it so I was livid. I doubt I will try this place again and after seeing previous reviews I'm sure that's probably the same guy. read more

Best sushi and best value. The first visit was a bit confusing because we didn't know where we were supposed to order and wait and such. Apparently after you place your order, they will just call your name. The restaurant was so busy at the time, so we weren't sure when or if they called our names. After we got over the confusion and wait, we were quite pleased with the food. I'm a big eater so I appreciate the large portion size as well. Thank you for make this a fast casual place. Went here for the first time for dinner on a Wednesday night. I was feeling adventurous so I made my own roll, while the hubs got the pork cutlet bowl. Not too many people were at KSM at the time so service was very quick; we waited maybe about 5-10 min for our order. FOOD: the sushi roll was amazing. They didn't skimp on any of the ingredients-- especially the fish. There's ten pieces in a roll, and they're big FAT pieces. And the TASTE! Every piece I popped in, you could immediately hear "mmmmm" afterwards. The cutlet bowl, in my opinion, was just okay. I personally would have wished for more sauce, but the husband likes it when it's not drenched in sauce. Soooo to each his own. PRICE: everything is $11.95 whether you order a menu roll, make your own roll, or get a bowl entree. I'm both sad and happy about this-- sad that I never got to try this place back when everything was $9.95, but happy because if everything were $10 I'd be eating here every day. OVERALL: You could always go to another sit-down sushi place in the area that offer $8-10 rolls (+$2 for tip, so really, it's pretty much the same price per roll), but if you're ever in the mood for a quick, big fat sushi roll with lots of ingredients/toppings, this is the place to get it. Do you have those moments when you're craving something savory, but more specifically, a chicken teriyaki bowl? Seems trivial right? Just go to Panda Express! As much as I enjoy Panda Express's chicken teriyaki, Makimono manages to deliver a perfect chicken teriyaki bowl with its perfect tender grilled chicken strips, balanced and nappe like consistency teriyaki sauce, and veggies and carbs to ease the strong soy and salty flavors. I love how I can control how much savory I taste by adding more rice and veggies they're like brakes. Who would've thought about writing a review about a simple teriyaki chicken bowl? It's a classic dish and Makimono does it right. The sushi roll, Lambada, is also a well done sushi roll. Its presentation looks welcoming and colorful, and does a good job getting you excited about consuming it. At first I thought they might've erred on putting too much sauces but due to the size of the roll you see how there's a good mix of rice, spicy tuna, salmon, avocado, and toppings of sweet eel sauce, spicy mayo and fish roe. Each bite of the roll is a complete meal in your mouth. Delicious. I tend to indulge in strong flavors so I thought the pickled ginger and wasabi was a great addition every other bite... Service is a bit confusing. We came for lunch and so we ordered at the front, and sat in the dining in area of the restaurant, but I had to walk up to get the food and ask for water. I will be back here again! My friends and I came here after a horrible experience at Hawkers (quoted us a 45 minute wait and we ended up waiting over 1H30 before we walked out). Makimono was fast with seating us and they were quick to get their next guests in since it was a Friday and super busy. Their sushi is amazing! HUGE pieces for cheap!! Had 12 in a special roll for ~$12. They had a large menu of variety and great drink specials! Service was great! The manager was super nice, too. She was a lady with long hair and came by a couple times to ask how everything was. She made sure everyone in the restaurant was taken care of. Huge portions of food for your money.
