My husband and I went here for dinner a few nights ago. Service was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is pretty terrible. It was cold, they had wood paneling and terrible lighting. The fresh rolls with peanut sauce were pretty good. The pad Thai had a strange sour taste, unlike any pad Thai we have ever had. The drunken noodles were bland. read more

We were searching for lunch in Long Beach. My wife just wasn't feeling the fried fish & chips or bar food that seemed to be abundant. I had been craving Thai. Being from Seattle we have more than our share there, but I just hadn't made it to a place recently. This really hit the spot. Good food for reasonable prices. Went to this restaurant for the $7.99 lunch special. I went with a few family members and my severely Autistic brother. He is very disruptive and is very loud; we are still teaching him restaurant etiquette. The owner, who happened to wait on us, was very polite and accommodated my brother, who can be a bit overwhelming and intimidating. She seated us in a private area and didn't even flinch when my brother loudly shouted when the food arrived. Overall we had a good experience. It's hard to find restaurants that are friendly to the disabled. The owner was sweet and it was a low stress meal we all could enjoy, my brother included. read more

We weren't really feeling up to food when we set out on our first Long Beach walk, but as we passed Malai Thai, we heard two different groups of people walking out say that their meals were delicious. That sold us and we went in. We tried the pad thai and the pineapple fried rice; both were super tasty and flavorful, with fresh and high-quality ingredients. It did take a while for service despite the restaurant not being very full, but we appreciated the small town vibe of how casual it was. read more

My family came in on a Friday night for dinner. There were no other customers dining in at 7pm. We were seated in an oddly separated room with menus and left for 15 minutes. No one brought water or came to check on us. The prices seemed a little high to us for what we're used to in and around the Puget sound. Also the atmosphere is terrible. A small little restaurant on the Main Street in Long Beach. Location is really nice. The food could be better. The shrimp and scallops were extremely dry and the vegetables were way too raw. Recently spent a 3-day weekend at Long Beach and ate at this restaurant four times! That's how good it was. It was a delight to discover such a great Thai restaurant in the small town of Long Beach. We tried a variety of dishes over the four meals - fresh roll for appetizer, mango stick rice for dessert, and several entrees - Cashew Nut, Pad Thai, Drunken Noodle, Drunken Yakisoba, Roasted Duck curry, Sweet and Sour. Everything was delicious, just the right amount of sauce and flavor. The people working there are hard working, kind, and no frill. The owner was super friendly and came to talk to us every time we were there. When we ordered mango sticky rice and he told us the mango that day was not super sweet, an we said we didn't mind, so he let us try the mango first before deciding whether we wanted to order ahead. We saw him offer the same to another customer as well. It was just easy to keep coming back. I read a couple of the less enthusiastic reviews. I'd say it depends on what you expect - with Malai Thai, don't expect fluent English or ambience with dimmed lighting, but expect great authentic Thai food, excellent value, and genuine people. read more

Visiting Long Beach for the first time and choose to get takeout. Had a craving for some Thai food. According to Yelp there are two Thai restaurants in town. I choose this one because it had a slightly higher rating and it was close to my vacation rental so I could walk. I got three dishes including Panang curry, pineapple fried rice and a noodle dish with tofu. All with excellent flavor. No complaints. The bill came to around $37.00 and some change (with tax). Very generous portions compared to a typical Thai restaurant in a large urban city where I come from. I easily got three filling meals from this order. If we could do half stars I would have given them a rating of 4.5. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I got take out and couldn't rate them on service or facilities. I did have to wait 20 minutes for my order; however it was worth it as the food was good and I was there at around 6:00pm at the start of dinner rush hour.
