It did not take long for us to be seated and our order to be taken. Then odd things happened. We had ordered three lunches and a girl brought us one cup of soup. We told them about it. Then after a while they brought us our first dish with no rice. When we were half way done with our first dish then the rice and another two soup came, then period. Our other two dishes never came. The table next to us came after us and had almost finish their meal. We told the server we had missed two dishes, the server told us the kitchen were preparing them. The other dishes eventually came 45 minutes after we ordered. The kitchen had forgot our food and the front staff also forgot our food. They were whole bunch of rookies. Only good part about the service was the manager give us two bowl of fresh warm rice after the missing two dishes came, thus add one star. Food wise they were all delicous. We had the honey garlic pork, fish with vegetables and calarmari with pepper salt. Some of the calarmari had too much batter but can be overlook. After the meal we got thirsty though. read more

Next to the Rivera Food Service, Mama Lu's Dumpling House in Tustin felt more like food court than a full service sit down restaurant. Sharing the same entrance with other food vendors like Meet Fresh, there's a section squared off for their diners, but it was still a bit confusing when we went the first time. The reservation system was quite handy, especially when we had a large party, to minimize the wait time. We were seated right away at our table at the reserved time, and it was packed that night. Checked out Mama Lu's in Tustin and made reservations for 4 PM on a Thursday afternoon. I've previously visited the Mama Lu's in Alhambra, and the main difference is the location. The Tustin branch is attached to a grocery store but has its own separate entrance. There's plenty of seating, it's not as crowded, and the food is just as delicious. Everything came out freshly made. We ordered the Kung Pao Chicken, Spicy Wontons, Sautéed String Beans, and the Crispy Beef Wrap. The waiter was attentive and even gave some recommendations. How have I only visited here until recently? Huge huge portions and kind of a fusion of A&J and Din Tai Fung. The rice cakes tasted exactly like DTF's but probably three times the portion for the same price. The honey garlic pork had a lovely sweet flavor but I will say was a little tough to chew. I highly recommend the Salt and Pepper Squid, Mongolian Beef, and Spicy Wontons. The deep fried squid was so addicting with the generous pieces enveloped by an amazing crispy batter sprinkled with a slightly spicy saltiness - these went fast. The yummy wontons came with peanuts (an allergen that can be omitted if necessary), a tingly spicy sauce, and an umami filling. I wasn't too crazy about the shumai and the House Special Fried Rice, as they were bland. We had to dress them up with a cocktail of sauces to make them more palatable. Quite disappointing, wouldn't get them again. Mama Lu's is found inside the Rivera Food Service store, towards the right with Meet Fresh. Don't worry, the restaurant is sectioned off from the store. The place got loud and busy near noontime, but staff did their best to be attentive and accommodating. Not sure if their reservation system works, but there looked to be a waitlist. I'll bring the fam here earlier next time to avoid the crowd. The bathroom was towards the front of the store. We liked that we could walk through the store to help digest after eating a hearty meal. My second time back and for the best reason I live farther now so coming to Mama Lu's is definitely a treat and it was a special day so we did the drive out and of course did not disappoint!! Mama Lu's Dumplings is located on 17th St off of the 55 Frwy. It shares a building with Rivera Food Supply. The restaurant is very streamlined and nicely laid out with plenty of seating. We came on a busy, Sunday afternoon with seating about 75% full, but we were seated quickly. The servers were all professional and efficient, but not friendly and engaging. Tables are pre-set with dishes and silverware & chop sticks. The server brings a pitcher of ice water and glasses to the table when he or she comes to take your order. Today we ordered pork steamed dumplings per my son's suggestion. Very yummy! We also got an order of shrimp fried rice and orange chicken. The shrimp were perfectly cooked; the overall dish could have used a bit more seasoning. The orange chicken was a very good size portion. The breading was airy and perfectly fried, the sauce was just the right amount with a slight kick of heat. There were a few other things on the menu that I'd like to try. You definitely get your money's worth and I hope (selfishly) that it doesn't get too crowded in the future! Dim Sum Porridge $5.98 - the porridge came out PIPING hot; its made with white rice and had pieces of shredded white meat chicken throughout. It also had pieces of thousand year old egg, and topped with fresh chives and fried wontons. If the consistency of a bowl of white rice is a 10, and a bowl of water is a 1, the consistency of the porridge is about a 4/10. It reminded me of a bowl of note soup with well cooked rice grains! The diameter of the bowl is about 6 inches; depending on your appetite, this could easily be your main, but at this price, order something else! Salt & Pepper Fried Pork Chop Lunch Special $13.99 - the fried pork chop came with a side of white rice as well as a bowl of hot and sour soup (bowl was about 3.5 inches in diameter). When the pork chop came out, I did a double and triple take with my husband, because I immediately wondered to myself if they gave us the full entree size, as opposed to the lunch special size. There was easily 10 to 12 pieces of fried pork chop. We easily took home half for lunch the next day. It was also piping hot, you could tell it just came out of the frier, and very well seasoned. Juicy Pork Dumplings $11.95 - I had high hopes for their pork XLB (being as it's a dumpling house), but I was disappointed; there was nothing memorable about their dumplings, except that it cooled down too quickly upon arriving to the table (that might because I was enjoying the hot porridge and pork chops) and that it stuck to each other when it cooled off (it tore when I tried to separate it to both eat, as well as to pack to take the leftovers home). Super hearty with lots of protein, eggs, veggies, and texture. The spicy/sour balance was perfect. Salt & pepper wings (7/10 at first, 8/10 after): Cooked really well: juicy, crispy, and served piping hot. They were a bit underseasoned for salt & pepper wings, but once I added a little extra salt and pepper, they were perfect. I also have a peanut allergy, and the staff was super accommodating and made me feel very comfortable ordering. The restaurant manager was amazing! The service was a little slow, but they were packed with few waiters, but was surprisingly busy, since we went at 2 PM. I don't usually post reviews but the soup dumplings were honestly really bad. The skin of the dumpling felt like it was not cooked all the way through so the texture felt off and mushy. The dumplings were also sticking together since they didn't space them out properly. This caused the soup to fall out when trying to pick up the dumplings. We ordered the honey walnut shrimp and the pork and chicken dumplings. They were both great. They gave a pretty big portion, so we were able to take some of the food home. It was close to closing time, so the dumplings came out a lot later than we expected. I believe they had to make them unexpectedly. Still they were very good. Surprised to see that there was also a Meet Fresh dessert place in the same location. We ordered Yang Chow fried rice. Pork Chop with Peking Sauce, Sauteed Green Beans, and Salt and Pepper Squid. The Fried rice was a meal in itself. Had lots of meat, shrimp and chinese sausage and was so flavorful. The Pork chop with Peking sauce was very good. I loved that the pork chop was still crispy even with the sweet and sour like sauce. It was finger licking good. The Salt and Pepper Squid was a great surprise with the crisp light batter. So delicious. The sauteed green beans was a perfect match to the meal with the lightly flavored stir fry goodness. The servers were so welcoming, friendly and polite. Rolling up, the restaurant throws you for a loop being inside of a market but it was the best chinese food I've had in a while. After a very enticing TikTok video we stopped in for dinner. This place is next to but kind of inside a grocery store but it's very nice. It took a while to get seated and we sat down. Within seconds we had someone ready to take our order we had not even picked up the menu. For the next 10 minutes we had people coming to take our order every two minutes. We were rushed into ordering and our food came out fairly quickly. After that not one person came to check on us until we flagged someone down for the check. The food was not good everything lacked flavor. The scallion pancakes were cold and the green beans were swimming in oil. All in all not a place I will be returning to. read more

This place is near and dear to my heart because I used to go to the Monterey Park branch . Recently found out that the owner also owns this Mama Lou's. I've come for dinner three times and each time has been perfectly delicious. My go tos are the Spicy Wonton and salt and pepper tofu. Plus a new dish each time. All items are shareable, so it's even more conducive to family style meal time. I love it! There are regular drinks and also beers. This spot is my JAM!
