Mama Pho is probably one of the better Vietnamese spots for Pho on the east side. The broth is tasty and I really liked how they have an option for a smaller size for cheaper. The Spring Rolls are also good and the prices are fair here - will definitely be dining here again, either in store or for takeout!

Short Rib Pho and Beef Meatball Pho
Kameron C.

A simple and authentic pho place, almost hidden find! The menu has lot of options and the beef broths (always judge on the broths for pho) were super tasty. The short rib was falling off the bone. We also tried the dumplings for appetizers which was a nice touch. You can tell is home made with tasty ingredients. They have a service button when you need to order or to pay, simple and easy, and they have just enough tables to sit down in a comfortable booth to enjoy a good pho meal.

Came for lunch break, 2 people. Small space but didn't have to wait for a table. Smelled amazing when we walked in! Most people seemed to have ordered pho (if not all of them who were there at the time). I had the regular beef pho, the other had it with extra noodles. Great broth, portion and great quality noodles. The staff was very nice.

Vegetable Pho

We tried Mama Pho for the first time and glad that we did! It does look empty most of the time, which was probably why we never stopped in. On a cold winter day, there's nothing better than a bowl of delicious soup noodles. The soup was really the star of the show. It was full of flavor, savory (compared to some sweeter soups) and satisfying to drink. Both the vegetarian soup and the beef soup were really outstanding and way beyond what I expected. The portion size is decent as well and there was a good amount of beef balls, tripe, etc. in the Mama Pho bowl. There was also a good amount of tofu. I wasn't food coma stuffed after the meal but I did think that they could have given some more noodles. Maybe l'll ask next time. The service was ok - we had to ask for water after the waiter took our order. The food came out fast (maybe as expected?) so I was happy with that.

Pork spring rolls

Cute spot, not too far from Grand Central. Really small, nice staff, food was great. I got the flank pho and spring rolls. I wanted veggie, but they only had pork, which was fine. Came out pretty quickly. I think next time I go I'm going to ensure to just order the spring rolls by itself. And then the pho, because these came out at the same time, I like to have it separately. But it was good, the broth was phenomenal. It was great. I liked the service that they had you ring a bell whenever you're ready or needed service so that was very convenient. I'll be back.

I had this bookmarked as I wanted to check out the pho here. It is named after the noodle soup dish. Anyways, this place is a DIY in all aspects such as first come first serve in getting seats if you're eating inside. You seat youself after you order from the counter. They do bring out the tray of food to you, but other then that everything else you need to do. The utensils and napkins are all there for you to get yourself too. People tend to wipe up the tables themselves if it gets super busy. Sometimes you may have to clean up after you eat. So why tip if you do everything yourself? For the food, it's okay. Nothing amazing and it's quite overpriced. Maybe the other entrees would be better but I won't be going back as I was expecting better. The soup was quite oily. I guess it was decently portioned, but at other restaurants you get more bang for the buck.

Chicken Pho and Dragon fruit drink

It's been a minute since I've had pho. My friend and her family spent the day walking around Manhattan and the weather was pretty cold and rainy. Hot, (super) big bowl of chicken pho surely hit the spot! Dragon fruit drink was nice and refreshing. Food came out pretty quickly and staff was friendly and laid back. Chicken was so tender and had a delicious marinate. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

For all pho lovers or someone looking to try vietnamese pho, this spot is awesome! Has the rib eye pho (A1) the meat comes uncooked so you can add to the flavorful broth to be cooked. Fresh ingredients and welcoming staff. Plenty of seating available but it does get crowded. Clean atmosphere!

Shrimp with Pork Belly Summer Roll was good, but a lil bit chewy.

I've come to do takeout a few times from this place since it's close to my office. The decor is cute, the food is delicious, and the service is great. I will be back for more!

This is the A1 pho option.

I love this place!!!! The employees are so sweet and it is nice and quiet. The broth is always delicious.

How are the reviews so low???? Some of the best authentic pho in nyc. Huge portions lots of soup and meat. Soup is very flavorful and rich. I think their branding conflicts what they actually serve, live nearby and haven't come because I assumed it would be the panda expesss of pho but it's actually amazing. Pic hides the amount of meat, get the mama pho

I tried the delicious Pork Dumpling Soup, which had that great tasting onions and cilantro. Also, the Classic Sandwich was just great.

I got the pho ($21.78), which is steep for pho, but I guess that's Midtown prices for you. The wait was a slog--over 20 minutes for a bowl of pho, which other Yelp reviews warned about. When it finally arrived, the soup lacked that authentic pho aroma, which was a letdown. On the plus side, the beef was fresh, and the reusable to-go bag was a nice touch. Decent, but the wait and price make it hard to love. Might try again if they speed things up.

After waiting 30 minutes, for what is literally the simplest item on the menu, the bowl is brought out and it's a bowl of broth with a couple slices of chicken. No noodles. When I inquired, the server told me it's because I ordered the Plain Pho... yea and I said it comes with noodles and broth. They told me they could get me noodles, but acted like they were doing me a favor by fetching noodles for me, which was quite offputting because the noodles were quite literally half of the dish I actually ordered. How does one wait half-an-hour at a very casual fast Vietnamese food place, for premade soup and noodles, and still have the order wrong? In the end, I did get my noodles and broth, but the fact that I had to spend this much time and also justify my request for noodles (which are part of the dish) is quite insane. I put this at 2 stars for now, because I enjoyed my first time. Hopefully the service will improve.

The drunken noodles are not spicy in my opinion but i can handle a bit of heat. So when my family stumbled into Pho 39, a tiny spot with just a handful of tables tucked away from the chaos outside, it felt less like finding a restaurant and more like discovering a Rebel outpost that somehow survived undetected in the middle of Imperial territory. The menu is exactly what you'd expect from a solid Vietnamese spot: pho, combination rice plates, the usual lineup. We were ready to order and move on with our lives. Then we saw the tacos. Vietnamese tacos. On the menu. Sitting right there between the banh mi and the spring rolls like they'd always belonged. Nobody in my family said anything for a full three seconds, which for us is basically a standing ovation. We ordered the duck spring rolls to start, which were fresh, well packed, and disappeared faster than a starfighter in hyperspace. For the mains we went with the beef flank pho and the banh mi combination special. The pho had a clean, well developed broth that clearly had some time put into it, and the beef flank was tender enough to make you slow down and pay attention. The banh mi combo was solid, balanced, and hit all the right notes. We did not get the tacos this visit, which means we have a built in reason to return and nobody can argue with that logic. For a small room in the middle of one of the busiest cities on the planet, Pho 39 manages to feel genuinely calm and focused. Good food, good value, and a menu with enough surprises to keep things interesting. The Force is strong with this little spot.
