The design of this cafe is stunning! The customer service was exceptional, but it did take quite a while to get my order. There is no table service for COVID. The coffee is a bit bitter, but okay overall. The portions are a standard size, and honestly leaning to be a bit overpriced on the salad end. The cookies are famous and delicious! This maman location is a beautiful new addition to the neighborhood. The interior is truly transporting and a great place to catch up with a friend over a cup of coffee and a maman signature cookie (to die for!). The staff is an absolute pleasure as well - hard to find midwestern nice in an NYC restaurant these days. They have made me a regular as they recognize me and greet me like a friend. Their lunch food is also consistently great and made with wholesome ingredients that have been prepared ahead of time but assembled on site, providing a great depth of flavor. Much more satisfying than your average sandwich. I hope that their menu continues to expand and evolve as I work nearby and hope to have more options to order from so i can frequent the location more often! read more

I enjoy the food and drinks, though it's a bit pricey. The vibe is way off, though. Love the decor, but the folks who work there are clearly having a rough time. I feel for them. They're doing fine work but their stress and tension reverberate through the waiting area and into the rest of the space. Maybe they're not paid well, understaffed, have unrealistic expectations set for them, or some other toxic something. But once again, since the place opened, everything has been tasty. read more

Ok so I have been to two different locations now and the environment is gorgeous. The food is good. The omelet with roasted red pepper Gruyère and goat cheese, where was the cheese. The papas bowl, a breakfast bowl and a coffee for 25 dollars. It's a little overpriced.The amount of seating is amazing. BUT and the biggest BUT they don't have WiFi in either location what kind of coffee shop,bakery, restaurant dose not have WiFi. So I tried to use my hotspot like usual when working remote, but for some reason I can't get a signal maybe the building structure. first off, the interior is spectacular. there's a gorgeous canopy of leaves covering the entire ceiling, and if you're lucky enough to get the corner spot by the tree trunk you can easily spend hours working. there are plenty of outlets, both in the central shared table and all the side tables. the tawni salad was delicious and well seasoned, balancing feeling healthy with being actually edible effortlessly. the oat milk chai latte was incredible as well, it didn't taste like concentrate and had a strong spice flavor. so why the 3/5 review? well, the matcha latte was solidly mediocre. it wasn't sweetened at all, which is fine. however, it was also not blended well. i had clumps of unmixed matcha at the bottom of my cup. that made the last 1/5 of my drink undrinkable. you may think i'm being overdramatic, but too much raw matcha can actually make you sick because of the increase in stomach acid. i'm a big matcha fan but most cafes in nyc are overpriced and undermixed. unfortunately, maman is no exception. secondly, the cafe seems set up to be a workspace. there are literally outlets every 3ft and there are tons of people inside happily working. however, there is actually a 90 minute seating limit. this isn't posted anywhere or openly advertised, but you'll be asked to leave after 90 minutes if you're at a table that is "pretty" or "desirable". i was surprised to hear this because there are so many outlets all over the cafe- it seems like more of a working cafe rather than a brunch place. my friend and i were at a "pretty" table though, so we were asked to leave after the time limit was up. when we explained that we had ordered just as much food as the others (i actually got a $14 salad and a $6 drink which is very expensive for what it is, as is typical in nyc) the response from the staff didn't change. it's completely not their fault, but i wish this policy was clearly stated from the beginning. there were a bunch of people who had been there as long as us, but they were not asked to leave. it really seemed like we were targeted for being at a "desirable" table. the guy at the table next to us saw this go down and clearly felt uncomfortable about it as well. he immediately said "i've been eating" to justify why he was not asked to leave (especially since he was at the same wall we were?) but left shortly after. that table he vacated remained empty for the next three hours. there was not a shortage of seating. to make a (very) long story short: maman king has some great entrees and good drinks (avoid the matcha though). come to get brunch and take pictures, and find somewhere else to do your work. read more

Good news: the coffee and croissant were great. Bad news: it was served by a girl who picked her ear and wiped her nose before serving the pastries. The baristas were also rude and indifferent. They were openly talking crap about customers while making coffee. I won't be back despite the decent food because the staff was either disgusting face pickers or just plain a-holes. read more

This is regarding Varick street location. Saddens me to write this but I have to. Yes I foolishly pay 25 dollars a few mornings a week before my stressful job as a first line health care provider but that's on me. But it's the end of the road. First of all the Butterfly Latte is just milk. But anyway, this morning I was REALLY unhappy. Ordered my usual small mocha latte and a smoked salmon tartine (always delicious). I go to pick up the coffee and it's a large. I said nicely, "Oh I ordered a small, I thought is seemed expensive". I'm then told by the not pleasant girl at the register "Oh if you dine in it's automatically a large." I said, "Was someone gonna tell me that?". Then I'm gaslit like it's my fault. the barista then transfers the mocha (which that I wanted to go) into a glass. So I say to the barista, "Wait, I'm confused (because I wanted it to go). She gets rude and goes "About what?" Again gaslit. I was refunded but I have to say, the attitude in there is really not cool. read more

I've been meaning to leave this review since forever, but better late than never! I hosted my sister's Bridal Shower at this venue last year and I still get giddy when I think about how beautiful the venue was and how well that evening went. I emailed the venue months before the event and was connected to Gabriela. I had never booked a venue before or hosted a Bridal Shower and Gabriela made the process so easy. She helped me choose the best location for the number of people attending and we ended up deciding on a late dinner for the event. Once the event day came, Carol and James were there to help with anything I might need at the venue. I brought flowers/little decor items and the venue was able to provide me with small tea light candles. The staff was beyond helpful, extremely attentive and charming. James would always give me a head's up when the next meal/dish was going to be brought out and even went as far as to lower the volume down on the music whenever he saw a game was about to be played or speech would be made. The space looked beautiful and the food was tasty! All the guests loved it, especially the bride. After the event I continue to visit the other Maman locations throughout the city when I can. I can't get enough of their lavender hot chocolate! I wouldn't hesitate to book another event at this venue. read more

THIS PLACE IS PERFECT! My favorite book growing up was Amelia Bedelia and this cafe insists on giving those vibes at every opportunity. Nostalgia, man, I love it! The staff is so apathetic it's actually comical, a million LOLz. Which is perfect with these stressful times, live a little! If you want to commune with your neighbors, this is the place! The staff at the register text while the line builds, so there's plenty of time to have a long chat or read the full Harry Potter series while you wait! While I've never asked for music reccos, I feel like I should since the staff all have both headphones in their ears while on the register or working the barista counter. Minus one star for them not proactively sharing though, boo! They always keep me on my toes as well, which is super fun. Will my order make it correctly (or at all) from the register to the barista counter? Is it me, is it you, who knows, Guess Who?! I also get to work on my math skills when I get to solve the riddle of whether they charge me for a large when I specified a small? Minus one star for lack of "great job!" sticker when I solve the problem correctly. By far my favorite activity at Maman is when we get to play guess what you're getting served. It works like this, I say "Hi, may I have a quiche lorraine warmed up and to go, please?". They say sure, and then I wait 20 minutes to be served a straight from the fridge cold quiche, where the shards of cheddar cheese aren't even melted, and the crust is actually blatantly raw dough. My fault, my fault, I know kitchens often don't have heating or baking devices. I also feel like they undersell themselves as just a cafe, and it's a real bummer! Minus another star for not spreading their wings. They're also a gastroenterologists! Ask for oat milk and watch what happens when they bless you with whole milk instead. Wow, cleansing! Sometimes though, when they aren't in a playful mood, they'll just be out of alternative milks. Which fine, I get it, we have to be serious at times.
