The omelet has sautéed green peppers, onions and three eggs, whisked in perfection. It's delicious. The short stack pancakes are large soft and fluffy. Taste great. The biscuits are not frozen, freshly baked. It crumbles and melt in your mouth. Serving staff are courteous and helpful. Clean, separate and not updated Men and Women's bathrooms. The Hostess/ Cashier with long braids was not friendly. She took us to our table, slapped down the menus, spun around and left. I said, "Thank You" but no response. She was quite rude at the register check out line as well, would not make eye contact and seemed very annoyed. She finally acknowledged our presence after saying "Thank You" twice. Truly horrible customer service! The waitress also had a bit of an attitude and seemed bothered with our presence including a simple request for a straw, (many were in her apron.) I grew up in the restaurant business and waited tables for many years. I always try to treat everyone with kindness and respect. This restaurant is in serious need of employee training! Please hire people that actually want to work here and don't treat people badly. My food was good however my friend could not eat her chicken and dumplings as it was bland and did not taste good. This place has been in business so long, food should be in their DNA. My visit was no better than a Denny's full of slackers. I was hoping for home cooked flavor, but my Army chow halls did better. Staff was nice, and willing, but distracted by prepping large takeout / pickup orders. I've ate better omelets in a bar. Really. Breakfast here was a bit of a happy accident - we went to Wow Donuts on a cold morning and found ourselves walking into Mama's Daughters' for bacon and eggs instead. It's not our fault. It was cold. We needed a hot breakfast. The diner decor is retro and hip. Seating is quick but the wait area is exceptionally small. It wouldn't be bad on warmer days when you can wait outside but on a cold day, you're crammed in like sardines. Wait staff are AMAZING. My coffee never got cold or half-empty - but the cup was never filled without asking me first. I love that. I had breakfast #2, which was 2 eggs and your choice of biscuits, toast, pancakes or french toast. I had the biscuits and added bacon. My husband ordered the same, but added gravy for his biscuits and a small bowl of grits for us to share. Everything was super tasty. The biscuits are flatter and slightly crumbly-tender rather than tall and fluffy. The bacon was cooked crispy but not burnt. Eggs were perfect over-medium and it's hard to ruin grits. They are unsalted (yay!) so you can control the flavor you add. All in all breakfast was fantastic here. Oh dammit this place is to die for. I used to eat at the one and only downtown dallas. I even had the honor of knowing the real MAMA and all the other ladies who kept us all in line back then. I loved them and I love Mamas in Plano where Traci serves me all the time. The cinnamon roll was hard on the outside and undercooked and doughy on the inside. The Peach Cobbler was very disappointing as well. I love it when I see the actual owner there. One plus is that you get 3 sides with your entree! I had the meat loaf with fried okra, green beans, and mac & cheese. The bf got the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes, corn and mac & cheese. I took my first bite and my first thought was, "where's the flavor??" Wow, it was really bland. I had the roast beef w/ mashed potatoes & gravy, mac & cheese, and spicy fries (~$8). Good portions. Spicy fries were not spicy at all. Mac & cheese was ok, but watery. My sister had the chicken fried steak combo that came with 2 chicken fried steaks and 2 sides (~$10). It was okay too. I did like their corn bread & whipped butter. Service was good enough. This place is pretty cool. It's got the retro diner feel, and it's got classic diner feel-good food, including breakfast served all day. That's what I wanted on my visit, a big ol' omelette with some biscuits. I ordered a vegetarian omelette, add sausage (which brought snickers from some fellow diners at my table) with biscuits, and anxiously waited. In the meantime, I sampled cornbread brought to the table and found it to be quite nice; specifically, it was NOT overly sweet as is so common here (my grandmother used to make it with very little sugar, so that's what I grew up with and prefer). Rolls were not quite as good as I had earlier in the week at another nearby diner, but were still good. When the plates arrived, I sprinkled some Tabasco on my omelette and dug in. Mmm, tasty! The eggs were perfectly done, and the veggies still had a little crisp but weren't raw, either. The sausage didn't have a whole lot of "pop", but it was still nice. A sample of a fellow diner's fried catfish tasted really good as well. A good meal at a great price, this is a good combination. read more

I had the "Mama's Favorite Breakfast" which comes with 2 eggs (any style), hashbrowns, biscuits & gravy, and bacon. It sounds like a heart attack, because it is. I ordered my eggs over medium, and they came out a little harder than I like, but were still good. Their hashbrowns are -perfect-, crunchy on the edges and still potato deliciousness on the inside. The bacon was pretty good, I'm just not a huge fan of how greasy bacon -always- is. But their biscuits and gravy are DELICIOUS. I highly recommend them. My kiddo ordered a pancake, scrambled eggs, and bacon. The pancake arrived in the shape of mickey mouse (ears and all) and she was delighted. Loved the bacon too! Toddler approved. I appreciated how patient our waitress was as I had to eat in between keeping my daughter from throwing pancake at other patrons. Corn a little over cooked but everything else chef's kiss. The following day I ordered the cornbread dressing with giblet gravy. Another great dish. The daily specials are totally worth the price. Though this provides a lot of comforting type foods, there is really nothing that screams, "YES!!!" Last night we went there in the pouring rain, and thought ... breakfast! I got a breakfast with eggs, hash browns, ham, and biscuits and gravy. The eggs were perfect. The hash browns were nearly so, while the ham was really kind of bland. The biscuits were so dry and crumbly, they must have been made early that morning and left out. Even the gravy couldn't revive them. My wife had the pancakes which were okay, but a bit on the tough and mealy side, as if the batter had been over worked. Son got the the waffle. It too was a bit on the tough side, but the thing was covered in strawberries and whipped cream. Very nice. Additionally, if you like really well done bacon, then this is your spot. Personally, I like it more on the chewy side, but that's a preference issue. Our server was nice and pleasant as well as efficient. She got a twenty percent tip. All and all, Mama's daughter needs to be a bit more involved to address some of the quality issues, but it's not a bad place. It's a diner, a diner with a nostalgic interior decor. I grew up surrounded by diners galore, so to rate based on service would be moot. This was my second attempt to dine here as the last time, there was a much longer wait. (Noon on Sunday - obviously peak hours). There was a wait to get our order and brought to the table. Our server mentioned that it might take longer with more crowds coming in. Once she brought our dishes, she placed the check right on the table. No coming back to refill drinks, no checking if we needed anything - I was willing to pick up 2 desserts to go, but because she put down the check, I resigned to the fact that didn't want to spend any more money. And I had to wait another 15 minutes to get her attention for a leftover box. Like I said, diners are not known to be stellar on service. Just order, eat, and pay. Quick turn. I've had better in Jersey. As for the food... nothing to complain about. When you need to get a diner dish fix, this works. read more
