In San Antonio for a medical visit and saw this place. As soon as we entered we were greeted and seated. The entire staff was SO friendly. Raul was our server and he was super awesome. My father was very hungry but I wasn't so I thought I would eat a little and take leftovers. The grilled octopus seemed like a good choice since that's not something offered at many restaurants. My lord!!! It was so good with the mambo sauce. Not chewy like a badly cooked octopus but perfect. The rice is hard to describe because the picture looks like Chinese fried rice but it's not. The food was delicious & the order was pretty accurate. I ordered 5 different things and the only thing they forgot was my Mangolava. The order was for pickup & I noticed before I left so it wasn't a big deal, plus since it's a frozen drink I prefer it be made when I pick up the order anyway. The food was delicious, well seasoned & the portions were large. The Mixed Grill: Grande Shrimp Skewers & Fish Fillets was delicious & so was the bacon wrapped shrimp. I added 4 shrimp in chipotle sauce & the shrimp were a little overcooked, but that was probably due to them continuing to cook after being packed to go. The mangolava wasn't something I'd normally order because there's do many sugar free options today, but it wasn't overly sweet tasting. It was just the right amount of sweetness & i could see myself ordering it again. I got the shrimp fried rice as a substitution for both entrees & it was some of the best shrimp fried rice I've ever had. I normally order it without vegetables but it only had beans sprouts & green onions & they were seasoned so well I ate them & didn't bother with picking them out. The Empanadas Costeñas paired well with the paired with the spicy green salsa that came with it & made me wish I ordered it twice lol. I'm looking forward to visiting this location again or the Edgebrook location which is nearest me. The only thing i wasn't particularly fond of was the Tres Leches, but it wasn't a flavor issue. It was just lumpy, but it tasted good so I still ate all of it. That was probably the only thing i wouldn't order again, but overall the food was delicious. I've been wanting to try Mambo for quite some time but never had an evening to go in until I was able to try it out this past weekend. I was greeted by friendly employees at the host stand I was taken to a table immediately and my waiter was right there to ask I had any questions on the menu since it was my first time having dinner at Mambo. He was very friendly and attentive. I started with a shrimp tostada for my appetizer and for dinner I ordered the fried shrimp plate. My tostada was not what I expected. The shrimp on the tostada are TINY! I guess they're grass shrimp which had no flavor to them, the only thing I really tasted was the Mambo sauce on the tostada. The tostada was crunchy but something on the tostada was dripping water like a faucet. The shrimp tacos were very bland, I had to use quite a bit of limes to give it some taste. The shrimp also seemed like bagged frozen shrimp. My fried shrimp from my shrimp plate were very rubbery and the "fried rice" they serve as a side wasn't very tasty. There was about a 30 minute wait to be seated but we just waited in their patio area. Our server was very knowledgeable and always checking on our table. It's my 1st visit here. The oysters on the half shell were fresh. The shrimp cocktail lacked soul. The fried fish and shrimp were ok, they use tilapia and catfish; not my favorite fish. Same with the rice that everyone seems to brag about, it was just ok. There's a hole in a wall off old HWY90 that serves the really good fried rice, though. The agua de Tamarindo was good, Their prices are a bit steep. Service was friendly and fast, the only reason I'm giving them a 4-star review. I finally got around to trying one of the newest additions to the NW side food scene, Mambo Seafood, and was pleasantly surprised not knowing what to expect from this Houston based chain. I went on a Friday evening for dinner and the wait was at least 45 minutes so plan accordingly, Once seated our server was very friendly and quite attentive to us. After looking the menu over I decided to order the empanadas costenas and the seafood tostada as appetizers and the seafood soup as my main course. First up was the seafood tostada, which was made up of a combination of fish ceviche and shrimp. The seafood was fresh and covered with lettuce, tomato and cojita cheese. All I added was a dash of pepper and a squeeze of lime juice and this didn't last long, very tasty. Next, I tried the empanadas costena and these were also very tasty. The empanadas are stuffed with shrimp, cheese, black beans and chipotle sauce so I expected them to be a soggy mess but to my surprise the outside was crispy and firm even though the inside was moist and creamy....very nice. Lastly, I prepped my seafood soup by adding some salsa and lime juice into the tomato broth base and was set to go. The seafood and mixture of veggies (potatoes, tomatoes, cabbage) along with the broth made for a flavor explosion. Just like a caldo de res, after I finished all the seafood/veggies, I had to slurp up a good portion of the broth that was left over as it contained all the combination of flavors. Considering it was lunch time we actually found parking. There were several tables full but upon arrival the staff greeted us and immediately escorted us to a table. The waitress then came to our table and gave us our menu and asked us what we wanted to drink. We sat by a window and away from the middle area but still seemed to be noisy it was just that the sounds would carry over so everyone who was talking you could hear them. I waited a few weeks before going to this restaurant after their opening. I went for lunch on a weekday and it was busy, but we were seated right away. We were given water and then our waiter came over. I ordered the salmon chicharron tacos and added a side of soup for $1.99. The order comes with three tacos on a corn tortilla. Don't expect a homemade or corn tortilla, though the tacos were really good. The salmon was perfectly crispy and seasoned well. I actually would love to return to get some more at one point. The soup is just a vegetable soup. It is a great side. It does have a little seafood taste to it, so if you don't like seafood soup, don't get this one. We shared the mambo rice. It reminds of Chinese fried rice. You can choose your protein for this. The order was huge. I had a cucumber margarita (pepinada con piquete). It was delicious. Not too sweet. Great cucumber flavor. We're not much into the chain restaurant scene. We decided to give Mambo's a go. We started with raw oysters which tasted fresh, had little brine flavor and were a good size. I had the sautéed octopus with mambo rice. The dish looked not quite as tasty as the menu photo as the octopus was not just diced but almost grounded up. The flavor of the dish was good with a nice level of spice. The mambo rice was nothing to write home about. The margarita was tasty and not too tart. Disappointed in the location, I was so excited because we would travel to Houston just for mambo but when they opened here I have the expectation of certain service. Our experience was Mother's Day, food was cold, not just one but 7/8 plates cold. Drinks are nice! But you are waiting a long time to sit, there were tables available but it seemed they were not bussing them. Many open dirty tables and yet the wait continued. Lulu saw my server and did a fantastic job, she was full of options, suggestions and extremely accommodating. So far I was very pleased. I opted for the seafood mix with shrimp, squid and octopus in a scampi sauce. It was delicious. It came out quickly and was a perfect mix of proteins. The octopus and squid were tender and plump, not over cooked or rubber as I had anticipated. Great job on them both. I had the rice ( fried with shrimp) and fries, the only other options were veggies and an uncharged side salad. I was happy, though this would have paired nicely with either fried okra or corn. The seating is great, lots of tables & booths with a Mexican seafood decor. Our waitress took our order promptly & returned with our drinks & appetizers. We both started with the empanadas. Very good taste! I ordered the broiled tilapia filet with shrimp fried rice. Both were very yummy & generous portions. We were able to go for lunch today. The place is definitely new including the overwhelmed staff and management. Now that's not a criticism but an observation. Our waiter Gilbert was very friendly and attentive. The manager did stop by our table to check on us. Now for the food! I had the grilled shrimp with double shrimp fried rice. My wife had a shrimp taco with shrimp fried rice. Everything was delicious. The only thing I'd like to suggest is they give you real butter for the roll and drawn butter for the grilled shrimp.
