Celebrated my birthday here last night. 1/ handled a group of 10 with ease even on a busy night. 2/ atmosphere ok but very loud 3/ food was all right. When I go to a restaurant I especially the shrimp to be bigger than a dime. Shrimp tacos were good but a lot of other dishes weren't very appealing looking or impressive. But do make a good fried rice. 4/ our waitress was courteous and efficient young lady. But contrary to belief not everyone in San Antonio speaks Spanish. I hate having to get someone else to translate by questions or place my order. Would return if in the mood for shrimp tacos. read more

Mambo Seafood just opened relatively close to our home so we wanted to check it out. It was relatively busy and they gave us a 15 minute wait time. It was precisely accurate and we were at our table within that time frame. Our server was very friendly and shared that he only knew a little English. That didn't matter to us and he was great. We ordered the calamari to start. The batter was light and didn't taste heavy like some fried foods. It was a good amount of food for a 1/2 order. I ordered the Mambo Combo. It was a lot of food and cost $19.99. Similar to the calamari, everything was nicely breaded and the flavors were good. I appreciate the fried rice as an option. Very different option but it made Mambo unique. My husband ordered fish tacos. He liked them though shared it needed a little more. He asked for a side of pico de Gallo and he shared that made it better. The restaurant is clean with fresh colors on the wall. The music was entirely too loud and it was hard to have a conversation. Our total was just under $50 before tip. Overall, the experience was positive. I haven't been to Mambo in Houston so I didn't have a comparison point but regardless I'll go back. read more

The food the service the quality of the food are great I came here once a week my server Carla takes good care of me and always gives me a different selection of different meals and appetizers to choose from even with the menu in hand. Always liked to ask what you think is the best choice. Attention everyone gives me is good as well including the host managers they friendly and very attent to their clients. I'm giving 2 stars as the food was ok! Service does not deserve that many, management is a joke. My son order a burger (I know I know) plain and dry with cheese... he got the burger with no cheese, after telling the server that the cheese was missing, she went to the kitchen and brought a piece of cold cheddar cheese and I got charged 0.99 for it. Our server suggested an appetizer that never came to our table... I had to ask several times for straws, Napkins, silverware.... First time customer but will now be a regular. Oysters were spot on, loved the avocado, shrimp and octopus combination with them. (Recommended by my awesome waiter Rueben). The shrimp fried rice was delicious, best I've had besides my moms. Restaurants usually give you rice as a filler and it's usually pretty bland, but at Mambo's it could be a entree all by itself! We had the fried and grilled tilapia with ranchero sauce and shrimp fried rice. We also had the empanadas costenas appetizer which was delicious and loved the green sauce that comes with it. The food was great, and the service was attentive. The price is very reasonable, and you get a lot of food. The kitchen is kind of slow even though they were not very busy on a Friday late afternoon. read more

First of all, I've been in the food service industry (busser, server, trainer, lead/key) for years, so I can be a bit more skeptical when it comes to bad reviews on the Internet. I realize when a bad situation can appear to be the server or kitchen's fault but in actuality it's out of their control. I've personally been there, so I get it. That being said, I KNOW when an issue raises and it could have been avoided and it IS the server or kitchens fault. I'm here to say that our experience today was practically FLAWLESS, and I don't use that word lightly. Our server, Serina (sp?) was attentive and helpful, noting that it was our first visit to the restaurant. Our drinks were never empty, and she was never far if we needed anything. The one time I looked for her to ask for extra cocktail sauce, another employee (possible busser?) asked if we needed anything and alerted Serina to our needs. Fast, helpful service because these employees work as a team. That's a sign of good training practices. That DEFINITELY caught my attention. A few minutes into our meal, Serina checked in on us (something I'm very particular about) to make sure everything was to our liking. About 10 minutes later, a member of the management team performed a table touch (checking in on the guest experience) and made sure we were well taken care of. Overall, this has probably been the most FLAWLESS execution of a guest experience I've encountered since moving to the area in 2019. I will definitely be bringing my parents back to eat here the very next time they're craving seafood! Before I forget to mention, I moved here from New Orleans and worked in seafood restaurants in the French Quarter. I'm used to FRESH seafood, and the shrimp gumbo here at Mambos definitely took me back to Bourbon Street! I was definitely impressed. Best of luck. Great job, crew! read more

I have been to their Guessner location in Houston Texas and this is far from it. My wife and I dined in and ordered their Jalapeño Poppers which taste like cornbread and mayonnaise, not thrilled at all. We also ordered the Shrimp Cocktail after salt, hot sauce there was still No flavor . After the appetizers I ordered their Lobster dish with the sides and let's just keep this short, we will never return again. We are in San Antonio and we require flavor in our food . Trying a new seafood place. Worked through breakfast so I'm hungry! Busy Saturday afternoon. The wait was about 33 minutes. When we were seated we waited about 10 more minutes before we were asked if we had been helped. Our waitress Lizeth, was very nice and super busy. We ordered the empanadas costeñas. SO GOOD! I also ordered tacos gobernador. Barely anything in the taco shell. It did not look appetizing AT ALL! I was so turned off. But not all delicious things LOOK delicious. So I bit into it and I was done. I sent it back and ordered some more empanadas. They were good. My hunny had the taco special. He wasn't impressed. Some won't remember that as kids we would watch Ed McMannon and the show Star Search. This place deserves 2 & 3/4 stars NOT 3. Here's why. First, the menu & what you get is a huge let down. I ordered an Arnokd Palmer because the drinks on the menu featured them on Mason jars mugs but we got what could politely heceescribed as those old dark yellow plastic cups Pizza Hut used to have for their dine in guests or at least that's what they reminded me of. Even the waitress agreed. She was very attentive & tried hard to keep the table happy with refills & taking off my Brothers calamari appetizer because it was less than appealing to our palates I suppose. The breading & the oil used to fry gave off this weird lasting after taste. Also, calamari were slightly rubbery. My appetizer were the Salmon bites. About all I can say was they were fried nice outside & a little mushy on the inside. Again, I didnt care for that taste out that breading. It didnt sit right with me. I started to get the worst case of hiccups in my entire life eating what would cone to be this place's saving grace: the Mambo Rice. Its salty and a bit oily as hell but addicting to eat. I had three bowls. I ordered two but they screwed up my initial plate & combined with their poor back the house communication & thus I needed up with a 3rd bowl. Their loss, my gain but my loss in the wallet.lol Its all good. The breading they used not my favorite. It was part corn meal based & I didnt care for it. I ordered a fish fillets & shrimp plate. Portion size was fine it was how these fillets and shrimp was prepared before frying that was my problem. I picked up a shrimp & it looked flat like they were trying to do a schnitzel. It was beaten & flattened almost like a patty. These shrimp were maybe medium. I expect jumbo not these little mediocre pieces I got. The fish was a Cod substitute because that was cod like but not cod. Just weird. I dont want to come out & say they are passing it off as good when it's inferior product that is clearly not market fresh seafood which is wrong but these are my suspicions. They keep me warm at night. Lol You didnt read that. Moving on. They made a huge splash into San Antonio that they were this a seafood staple in Houston but I've had better seafood at Long John's Silver & Fred's Fish Fry. They are on the same level. Same. I ordered the fried shrimp plate. The shrimp were so small and to hide the fact that the shrimp were small. They butterflied them and then breaded them, but you could still pretty much see through the shrimp but the thing that really got me about the shrimp was they weren't even hot !!! I got a plate of room temperature shrimp. And their speciality rice was room temp as well. If I order hot food, I wanted to come to the table, hot. I don't send food back to the kitchen ever. The service honestly was very poor. I had to flag down the waitress twice to get more tea and then again for the bill. This San Antonio location doesn't even compare to the Houston locations. Those places are busy. The food comes out hot. This place honestly was pretty substandard and I spent the day in the bathroom the next day, so this is not a place I would go back too. read more

This place just opened a few months ago and we finally got out there to try it. The food is mediocre. They have a Mambo rice which is probably the best thing on the menu. Everything is small portions with a hefty price tag. The place is clean and new. Nothing special about it. Just kind of your average place. The server was okay but when it came to tip he came over with a hand held device and held it watching as I put in the tip. Talk about making the customer feel uncomfortable. Don't bother coming to this place. This was a last resort for dinner. Since arrival, the workers were hesitant to service us. We got seated at the very back of the restaurant, took 30 minutes to get drinks, only one person got a drink at that! I got my food first, then my wife got her food 10 minutes later, as well as the appetizer. We finally get our food, my wife started eating her soup, and there was a dead fucking fly. IN THE SOUP!!! Absolutely disgusting, not just the food. The workers here look miserable and don't seem to know how to provide customer service. I think this place is good. The the mambo shrimp is good it a little spicy but nothing over powering. The fried rice is good I got the chicken fried rice the 3 deriving for $8.99. Let me tell you it's a lot of rice!! You can definitely share with the whole table. It's a mountain of rice but it's good. The ceviche was fresh and good I would get it again. First time trying this place out and I was overly impressed with the quality of the food and the portions surpassed my expectations. I ordered the vegetable fried rice and it was delicious.
