Steak and the lamb was prepared to right temperature but the outer skin texter was so rough and burnt, both of us had to skim it off. Ate the rest, it was good for what it was but it was not what you would expect for the money I paid. It was disappointing. The place has the potential to be great. For the three time I had been recently, I was impressed the first time, 2nd and 3rd was disappointing. Not very consistent. I was extremely surprised how there were about 12 people waiting for the hostess stand, there's only about 12 feet to the door, this business is definitely not practicing state mandate 6 foot rule by any means. Our servers Shelby and Kristin were enchanting and very knowledgeable about the menu and the history of the restaurant which really enhanced the experience. The ambiance of this restaurant is so old school and beautiful, I felt as if I was transported back in time. I loved that they had a fire place crackling in the hearth, so cozy The cocktail and wine list was extensive and cool, most notably very well balanced vieux carre. I hade the Florida grouper with gnocchi, the gnocchi was so delightful and delicate, and the fish was cooked perfectly. He thought his ribeye was fantastic as well. We finished with creme brûlée and espresso, and they give you a little rock candy lollipop to stir the espresso, how cute is that! I have frequented Mancy's Steakhouse since the early nineties. This is the first time in so many years I was so disappointed in the whole experience. Starting with the appearance of the restaurant itself. I want to write facts and not my personal opinion on the review. The restaurant no longer uses their traditional linens. They have now went to cheap plastic like place mats. We were taken towards the back of the restaurant and quickly realized the floor was so dirty I could move it with my foot. When the waitress returned I pointed it out to her and she said it was from the lunch crowd and now it's 6 pm so they never cleaned the floor. So let move on to the meal. Our steaks were seriously under cooked blood on the plate when ordered WELL Done. They were returned to the kitchen so the rest of our food remained on the table which was now cold. After 10 minutes they were brought back out to us and were so tough you couldn't cut them. I might also add that they weren't now over cooked they were still MED Well. The waitress apologized never offered to take a discount or much less even offer to get the manager. So sad to say the traditional Mancy's is gone maybe they have opened to many restaurants and can't handle it no longer. read more

I have lived almost my whole life in Toledo and have never been to Mancys. I now feel as if I have wasted my life in Toledo. I should have been eating here at least once a month. For those of you that LOVE fine dining and demand the best quality food and service then Mancys is the place to go. A true refuge from pretenders who claim to be the best at this or have the highest quality of that. Mancys is the real deal. Lets start with the service. A friendly staff that really know the menu. One of my dinner companions just couldn't remember the drink she wanted but could remember a couple of the ingredient. The waitress knew what she wanted after the second ingredient was named. Very impressive.. Their food is of the highest quality and EVERYTHING is fresh made. The bread basket contained house made bread and these wonderful sesame crackers that were a delightful surprise. We ordered a Caprese Salad and the tomatoes were fresh and the Mozzarella cheese was cut thick and it was VERY tasty. If I had to critique something it was that they put onions on the salad, which were out of place, and 4 pieced of tomato and only three pieces of Mozzarella. Obviously this is me being critical for the sake of being critical. We also ordered the Crap Cakes of which I'm not usually a big fan, but these were fresh and very tasty. No complaints what so ever. My Entree was the 10oz Fillet with the Bone marrow butter crust along with a side of Hollandaise. WOW, This was the BEST steak I have had in years..... YEARS!!!! I was a little happy and a little upset at the same time.. Upset at the other restaurants that have been feeding me swill and calling it food for the last few years. I guess.. in the end.... Like "the Beirut," Mancy's does not require a verbose review. Probably the best steak in Toledo (although Rockwell's is right up there, too), and quite probably SOME of the best I've eaten in any of the cities in which I've lived or visited. (And, I've eaten quite a few filets, in quite a few towns!) Although it MAY be possible to have a bad experience in this classic restaurant, I haven't had one yet. I see some of the other reviewers complaining of low lighting. Seriously? Jesus people, that's called "ambiance." Mancy's is Toledo's premier old school steakhouse. It's the real deal. For starters, the interior is legendarily beautiful, a stunning mixture of carved wood, wrought iron, and stained glass. It's small and cut up just right inside to allow for a lot of people but for each to have an intimate moment. It's perfect. The food at Mancy's is just excellent. Well prepared, nicely presented, and served by top notch and always friendly staff. The steaks are really the stand outs at Mancy's, as are the steakhouse staples: French onion soup, wedge salad, baked potatoes, etc. But Mancy's also has a super proper sea food game. The good thing is, while it's definitely among the priciest restaurants in town, you actually get a lot for what you pay, as Mancy's isn't all a la cart like other local places and the portions are generous. You'll spend a lot probably, but you'll be taking some home. For me, to celebrate a special occasion, this is the local go to that stands toe-to-toe with some of the best steakhouses in the country. My personal favorite is the super tender, coveted and hard to come by hanger steak with the must-have velvety and cheesy French onion soup. And for dessert, an espresso, which is served with a lemon peel and a rock candy swizzle stick for stirring! Fun fact: Mancy's has a great and affordable lunch menu where they offer up one of Toledo's best cheeseburgers! The most mouth watering and sweet, meaty, tasty crab legs that I've had the pleasure to eat in a very long time! My husband and I have been talking about returning to Mancy's for 18 years! I finally got him to take me after an appointment at the Univ. of Toledo Medical Ctr. We got seated right away. Though it was a weekday just about 5:00 pm. It was not busy at all and I did have a nice sun dress on, so I figured I was appropriately dressed. You can also wear blue jeans to Mancy's if you want to, but it is much more fun to get all dressed up and go here as a special celebration. The prices are high, the least expensive entree is about $25.00 with the most expensive being the crab legs or the Lobster at Market price, which was $79.00 the day that we went. Since it was a total celebration for us and our 17th anniversary dinner, we went and didn't even discuss the prices. Not only were we seated right away, but the server came right over to the table and explained all of the specials and dishes of the day. She was knowledgeable and dressed very nicely in the tuxedo, server look. She knew the answers to all of our questions and let me taste two different salad dressings on my salad. Our dinner came in a timely manner and it was spectacular! I got a salad and the special French Onion soup. There was no special charge or upcharge for the special French Onion soup. You must pay the regular separate total regular price for this, but it's worth itl The soup is mouth watering and has a delectible taste that is strong and wonderful with the melted cheese tasting excellent. This soup was very hot as well. The salads were awesome tasting with a little cheese, cucumbers, tomatoes, romaine lettuce etc. The bread basket was awesome with special crackers and a great tasting hot bread with home made butter Then my King Crab legs came and they had split them for me, luckily. I had an easy time of it, getting the meat out of the shell. It really was sweet and meaty and made my taste buds tingle! Each one gave you several bites, though when you first set your eyes upon the dish, you think you won't be full when you are finished. Looks are deceiving and it is more than enough. This place is so ugly! It's like a hole in the wall bar. We were seated upstairs in a room with red lighting that gave me a headache and made me slightly naseous. Service was incredibly slow and our waitress kept disappearing for long periods of time After getting bread, we sat at the table for 45 MINUTES before our salads arrived and when we'd only had about five bites of that, our steaks came out. I got a strip steak that was very fatty and unevenly cooked. It was well done around the outsides and red in the middle. I am really shocked that the people of Toledo like this place so much. Because my husband and I have had the pleasure of eating at some of the finest steak restaurants around the country, we know for sure that Mancy's really isn't that great. A few weeks after having Mancy's for the first time (Ribeye, Oysters Rockefeller, Caesar Salad), I took a trip to Peter Luger's in New York City. WELL, I would eat Mancy's over Luger's any day. STRAIGHT UP. My ribeye was the most flavorful cut of meat that I've ever eaten. The Oysters were crazy. The Caesar salad even, best I've ever had. Anyone not giving Mancy's 5 stars is an idiot...plain and simple. Peace!! UPDATE: Two years on, you're looking at the DUKE of this place. That's right. Bow down! The wait staff and bartenders are excellent, the only thing that causes me to leave 4 stars is the walk in experience...let me clarify: the restaurant is packed, all the time, you should be aware that if you choose not to make a reservation there will almost certainly be a wait and there is not a very large bar area to support comfortably getting a cocktail and a seat to enjoy that wait time. An expansion of the bar would certainly be something worth considering for the management team...it would likely help the bottom line as well as the walk in customer experience. read more

A few weeks have elapsed since we made the random decision to stop off in Toledo on our way back from Detroit. And thank the Yelp gods we did. Mancy's Steaks is so insanely good it only makes it better that the inside is so cool. This place is THE classic American steakhouse. From the amazing wine cellars surrounding the top of the place, to the classic ultra low light atmosphere (pics for proof below), Mancy's is as much as a feast for the eyes as for the stomach. And the stomach part is what earns Mancy's each and every star. The steak is hands down the best steak I've very had, and from a fairly experienced carnivore, that's saying something. Oh and the potatoes... 1 lb potatoes do exist and they come with beef, it's pure heaven, pure perfection. One of Toledo's best restaurants. Always wonderful service and a phenomenal meal. My family started a Christmas Eve tradition a few years ago of coming to Mancy's Steaks for dinner. Many other people must have this tradition as well, so make a reservation and make it months in advance! Their steaks are obviously phenomenal. When I used to eat meat I always ordered the fillet mignon with gourmet mushrooms. It was out of this world. I no longer eat red meat but they still have a lot of options on the menu. I love their salmon and most recently I ordered their scallops. You absolutely must try their French onion soup. It is hands-down the best French onion soup I have ever had in my life. Their crab stuffed mushrooms for appetizers are delicious and their Caesar salad is one of my favorites. Don't get me started on the crème brûlée for dessert. Great local landmark. Went in earlier on a Friday night. Sat at the bar. Was greeted by Debbie, the bartender, whom I learned later has worked there for 17 years. It was not busy, which for me sometimes means poor service. Glad that wasn't true this time. She has very attentive and we had good conversation about the restaurant and other things. There is something to be said as to why she has been here for 17 years. Good service! Great fresh bread. Wish the butter was something other than normal butter. Would have helped flavor a bit. No big deal though. Had a beef soup instead of salad which was great and no upcharge either. Ordered the 18oz New York Strip Steak with a baked potato. The potato was huge. The steak was cooked what I asked for, but was a little cold. That didn't stop me though. It was very simple with just enough salt and pepper on it to make the flavors of the steak stick out. Drank the Clancy's Ale which is brewed for them by Maumee Bay Brewing. Nice easy pale ale to drink. Overall a great place that has been around for a very long time. I can see why for sure. read more

I realized that if you have a good steak, that you could actually eat half of it and be content! That was me last night eating a petite Fillet. It was crispy, on the outside and you see in pink on the inside. This may be the first date I've ate with no sauce. Whatever piece of bread they bought out with real butter was amazing; and it is necessary considering the portions for vegetables they give are quite small. Note to self: there is onions in the stirfry; probably more then there are of any other vegetable within the stirfry; request a different vegetable! I had at least three people ask my opinion of my steak: from the person who brought out my plate, to the person who took my order, to just another random employee asking how was my steak . I must say I did not look like I belong there and this upscale restaurant! But it's OK; I came to eat steak! And what I got, was a good conversation with a very kind and informative man, and I ran into a familiar face for my previous job: good conversation! The waiters were very friendly! I had the Delmonico along with two others in our group. The steak was cooked perfectly. MR. Unfortunately it was incredibly tough. My friends were tough also. There was very little marbling. I've been dining at Mancy's Steaks for many years and normally it is exceptional - from the service to the food. This time, it was just fine. Not great, not bad. Just ... fine. The crab stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer could have been broiled just a bit long to crisp the cheese. The salads were anemic with barely any dressing (I asked for red French w/ crumbled blue cheese and found a small puddle of dressing UNDER the lettuce and about 4 crumbles of blue cheese). The bread basket was minimal. The steak was fine but not incredible by any means -- the filet was cooked almost to my liking (a bit too rare but wasn't in the mood to send back), the side of Hollandaise sauce was nearly minature, and the steaks used to be served with a bigger portion of crispy onions. The baked potato was less-than-stellar (please bring back the hash browns). In year's past dining at Mancy's was a slow burn and you had time to nosh on the bread, then enjoy an appetizer with drinks, then get your salad, and then wait a bit for entrees ... this time the appetizer, salads, and entrees were served so quickly that we were done with our meal in just under an hour. For a location that used to be an exceptional dining experience in Toledo this was a disappointing turn of events. read more

We were visiting from Chicago to celebrate my boyfriend's parents 50th wedding anniversary. We were a group of 13 and wanted to try and make it a little easier for everyone involved, so we asked about doing a limited menu. I worked with Dani to make it happen. She was flexible and accommodating and made sure we were able to do exactly what we were hoping for. Then, when dinner happened on Saturday it was absolutely perfect. Our server Salina was outstanding. We had two munchinks with us and she treated them like adults, and accommodated their random requests (like when my nephew decided he didn't want his fruit cup halfway through, and asked for a salad instead). The food was delicious and the entire restaurant is absolutely stunning! We had a great experience, and will def be back next time we're in Toledo. read more
