酸辣湯 / Hot and Sour Soup ( meat or vegetarian)

My family that lives in the area has been going here for years and always raves about it. We attended a Celebration of Life Lunch here, my first visit. Our group was 50 - 65 people (not real sure) and they have a private area in the back. The services ran late due to some technical difficulties so we were late for our reservation. The employees were so kind and didn't make it a big deal. All the employees were super busy but they took good care of the group. The food was absolutely amazing. The menu for the lunch had been pre-ordered and there was a good variety. I was too busy eating I didn't remember to take pictures until almost too late and missed some dishes. I assure you, everything came out plated nicely and was simply delicious. Some of my favorites...The Hot and Sour Soup had a nice kick to it. The Chow Mein was excellent- lots of protein. The Vegetable Delight had a good mix of veggies. The beef dish had great flavor, as did all the food. The decor is simple and nice. My family mentioned their lunch specials are great and well worth it. I hope to return next time I'm in town.

I've been coming to Mandarin Gourmet for years and love this restaurant! It is my go-to spot for slightly more Americanized Chinese food I feel that the quality and portion sizes have stayed consistent over time and am an especially large fan of their sizzling rice soups. Some of my other favs are the tangerine beef, deluxe pan fried noodles, string beans, and beef with mixed veggies. Every time I've been here I've been immediately greeted by the friendly staff at the front counter and seated almost immediately. Although the building exterior is a bit unassuming, the interior of the restaurant feels quite elegant and very clean.

Sad to see all the negative reviews! I used to come here all the time as a kid and I wanted to try it today. The lunch specials are where it's at. You get all the sides I posted in the pic, plus green tea, your entree and rice. All for $17. It's really a steal, especially in this age of fast food being cheaper. The food was really good and I definitely will be back. Also the service was great, friendly host and wait staff. Definitely will be back.

We went here for a company lunch outing. We were directed to the reserved room. The room was very hot, and that's saying something when it's winter. Maybe they turned on the heat to keep us comfy but it was very hot. As for the decor, it's definitely of its time. A little dated but fine. We started off the meal with the Chinese chicken salad. The salad was romaine and some sort of sesame, soy sauce, and hot mustard dressing. Not bad and definitely wakes up the palate. 3/5 We were then given veggie eggrolls. They were massive and very crispy but the contents themselves was very seasoned cabbage. It was helped by the sweet and sour sauce but it shouldn't be that it needs the sauce to be good. 2/5 We also had wonton soup which I think was shrimp and pork. The soup itself was fine and had a good amount of flavor but the wontons were just unremarkable. 2/5 The chicken chow mein noodles were overdone but chicken and all the ingredients were flavorful. 3/5 The honey walnut prawns were the highlight of the meal. Extra jumbo shrimp like 10/lb type shrimp. They were very tender and the batter extra crispy. 5/5 would order this again. The steamed rice had separated grains but not like jasmine or anything nice like that. 2/5 Beijing beef was good in flavor and nicely velveted but some parts of the batter were undercooked and thus left a gummy texture in your mouth 3/5. Similarly the kung pao chicken was nicely velveted. No complaints. 4/5 The veggies were the standard with white gravy. Nothing remarkable. However, two coworkers commented that the baby corn tasted wrong. 3/5. Overall, I think this place serves a good function for family gatherings. The staff were friendly and the place has a nice history but don't come here looking for fantastic Chinese food. If you get anything, let it be the honey walnut shrimp.

I met up with some HS friends at Mandarin Gourmet. This is the first time dining here for me and they have been around since 1990!!! MG's Americanized Chinese-style cuisine, has been serving the community for over three decades! Congratulations. The interior was simply decorated. The tables had table cloths and a combination of booth seating and chairs. Prawns with honey walnuts (4/5) - Lightly crispy battered prawns in a sweetened mayo sauce with lettuce and candied walnuts. Tasty dish! Hunan Steak (4/5) - mildly spicy served with broccoli and carrots. This was pretty good, maybe the beef needed a bit more tenderizing but it was "steak" so you want that beefy texture. Lemon Chicken (3.5/5) - battered chicken breast with a sweetened lemon sauce. This dish was delicious except it was hard to cut the chicken into smaller pieces even with the fork. Otherwise, it was an exact copy of how my dad's recipe was, which I loved. The service was very hospitable, welcoming, patient, and attentive. Support your local business. It was great seeing my friends. Thanks MP for dinner.

What even is this building? An old doctors office? But it smells like an old casino!! Plus zero windows. Total nightmare, I ordered what i thought would be crispy chicken, it was soggy salty chicken bits with one or two pieces of real chicken in there. I came for the chow fun but was told 10 minutes after ordering it there wasn't anymore. Could've led with that. Don't waste your time and go to panda express. Plus the waiter was rude, cherry on top.

I've been coming here for years now, but unfortunately the prices are way too expensive. $141 for 3 people. The prices are driving us away because they aren't reasonable. The quality of the food has been the same to me, so I'm not too sure why other reviews said it's changed. Portions are still generous and more than enough! The ambiance is nothing special and the bathrooms need a lot of work. Behind the toilets were gross and the faucets are extremely outdated.

I've been coming here with my family for over 25 years and whenever I'm back in town I love to make a stop at Mandarin Gourmet. The food is amazing. I think they put magic in their chicken salad. I'm a huge fan of their sesame beef and their pu pu platter! This time around we ordered food to go and it was just as delicious. Eating in is also an excellent option. The restaurant is large and there is plenty of seating. Whether you are calling in to place an order or physically at the restaurant the staff here seems to be super helpful!

I am basing my review off take out since I don't usually eat there* It's nestled in the plaza off Aborn Rd and White so parking shouldn't be an issue. The inside isn't extremely huge, but there are tables - though there are times when the tables are put out. But if you go up Aborn a bit, there's Evergreen Square where you can sit and enjoy the sun! Definitely call ahead of time if you are doing platters, but they also offer 2-3 item combo plates! Every time I have visited, the staff is pretty kind and get your order out to you as soon as possible. OKAY THE FOOD: * Chow Mein: delicious. you CANNOT go wrong with this item, it's perfectly made and gives the authentic "take out chow mein" taste * Salt and Pepper Pork/ Wings/ Calamari/ Shrimp/ etc.: Literally anything that's salt and pepper, I LOVE. My family and I usually get the salt & pepper pork or wings, depending on what we're feeling. 20/10 would recommend. * Honey Walnut Shrimp/ Chicken: Another all time favorite dish here - they somehow get the shrimp/ chicken crispy despite it being in the sauce. LOVE. * Chicken Green Beans: A classic, but also SO DANG GOOD. Please note that if you are getting an entree, expect your plate to be STUFFED. happy eating! x

The Chinese take out restaurant is located in a plaza in San Jose off White Road and Aborn Road. Parking is accessible in the large parking lot out front. The restaurant is clean and the modern decor is simple. There are a few tables inside for dine in but it appears this is mainly a take out restaurant. I ordered a salt and pepper wings and walnut shrimp. Both dishes were tasty. The salt and pepper wings were crispy and moist in the inside. The wings were flavorful and scrumptious with every bite. The walnut shrimp were crispy and sweet. Unfortunately the cream sauce was underwhelming. Overall we enjoyed our experience at Evergreen Panda. The staff were friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was welcoming and family friendly. The restaurant reminded me of a local neighborhood favorite. Price point was fair especially for the portion sizes. I will be back to order other popular items from the menu.

We walked in right at opening to a completely empty dining room. Instead of leaving, we browsed the menu and ordered XLB, pot stickers, jelly fish, and pea sprouts (my personal fav) so glad we didn't leave! The XLB are a nice size, with each precious dumpling cradled in its own foil wrapper for maximum soup retention. The potstickers were full of flavor, packed with protein, delicately wrapped, and had the crispiest, golden bottoms! Jelly fish was fresh and the pea sprouts were a hit! The poor owner answering the phones made sure (in all languages) to inform folks calling in that there were a different May Flower than the other place-felt terrible for her but also understood the importance of differentiating right up front. I can only imagine the number of misorders they have probably dealt with. By the time we were done, the dining room was filled with a mix of what seemed like regulars, locals, large groups of families, small groups of friends... this feels like we stumbled upon a tiny hole in the wall restaurant where everyone who has been before just knows the quality and taste they are going to be getting! Highly recommend you check this place out for a dine in or take out order!

This is one of the handful of American Chinese restaurants that stood the test of time. As is typical of these places, there was an old lady manning the counter and also acting as the server. And as is typical of these places, there was table at the end where they were prepping the fruits and veggies. It's truly remarkable how they are all similar in these ways! We got a couple of dishes and they came out at lightning speed. * Chowmein-3/5- delicious with lots of umami flavor but shockingly greasy. I mean I am used to oily noodles but this one exceeded some limits. *crispy salt and pepper eggplant-3/5- I had a stellar version of this dish at another restaurant in Sunnyvale and was stoked when I saw this on the menu here. Unfortunately it was a poor representation of the dish I loved there. The batter was too much and the dish felt heavy. The hot oil or sauce they had felt old and extremely vinegary as well, I would recommend avoiding it.
