Fabulous food. Beautiful setting. This is one of my favorite spots in DTLA, and that's saying s lot these day.

Manuela is located in an industrial building in the Arts District of L.A. It has a trendy little ambiance. My family and I went there for Sunday brunch. I ordered the Chilaquiles, Deviled eggs and their house made Bloody Mary. Chilaquiles were good but a bit on the dry side. Deviled eggs were really good and did not disappoint. Bloody Mary, on the other hand, was unlike any Bloody Mary I've ever had.. and to be quite honest, it didn't taste much like the classic Bloody Mary. It was yellow in color and when they first put the drink down, I had to ask if it was the correct drink. It didn't have any garnishments that I love about this drink like olives, lemon, celery, etc. The drink was ok but I probably wouldn't order it again. Manuela was definitely an experience. A bit expensive for what it was. I'd be willing to try it again and order different items from the menu. read more

Love the ambiance. Great place to go with friends or on a date. Be sure to get there early and grab a drink in their courtyard, which is about 20 feet from the actual restaurant. This bar area is all outdoors, and is surrounded by herbs being grown. We were a group of 4, and all of our dishes were great. We shared a few appetizers, which were all spot on too. Would easily be a 5 star, but I felt the service was lacking. The hostess was great, we were promptly greeted upon arrival and thanked when we left. The server was very average. Never really checked on us much, drinks took over 15 minutes to get, and the food came out to slow. Had to wave her down to order, as well as, to get the bill. She didn't seem frazzled either, so it's probably just the way she is. Wished she seem to care a bit more. Overall, I would recommend Manuela. Great food in a beautiful setting, just slow. Skip their dessert, and walk over to Salt & Straw for some great ice cream. read more

Incredible! Stumbled upon this restaurant due to being in the area and starving. Hands down the best restaurant in LA. I live in Long Beach and I cannot wait to come all the way down town just to eat here again. Every little detail and every bite of the food and drinks were exceptional. read more

The outdoor space is wonderful, especially in covid times. The service and covid precautions taken are top notch. The drinks...invite me here for them any time. They cocktails are creative and super satisfying. I found the food to be ok- sounded way better on paper than it tasted in my mouth. That being said, it wasn't bad...just not wow. read more

We walked in without a reservation late Sunday morning. Got a friendly welcome by hostesses and offered seats at the kitchen bar. So glad we did. Watching the preparation of all the meals going out to be served just added to our dining experience. Chef Wes was expediting all with patient and mentoring attention to detail ( from what we observed he would be a wonderful chef to work with) but also took time to chat with us a bit. I just had to have the Redneck platter- and was wonderful. I try to watch my carbs but dang those biscuits with bites of pimento cheese, egg salad, ham were irresistible. Better half enjoyed the pulled pork with jalapeño coleslaw. We were stuffed but some other dishes we saw go out got our attention for future visits. Fabulous, attentive service. Words cannot describe how much I love this place. Very cool vibe and good food. Chilaquiles are my favorite! Last time I visited they put carrots in them - this was a mistake, stick to the traditional. Young vibe (but leave the kiddos at home). Great service and wine selection. Manuela is a staple in the Arts District with a beautiful garden and outdoor space - the food is namely rich and made for sharing and albeit not many non-meat options the plates had were still very tasty and the atmosphere and staff are incredible. I gave if 4 stars because I did find most of the dishes to be a bit too heavy and hearty, even for a place that is about comfort food, and also a bit pricey even by DTLA standards. read more

In an area with phenomenal restaurants, aka Bestia, Bavel, Manuela is a standout. Great atmosphere, chill vibe, spot-on drinks and food. We went for brunch and every dish was perfect. The cornbread is amazing. I don't normally like bloody Mary's but this one was incredible. I also went for dinner and highly recommend the biscuits, market salad, and potatoes. There are more expensive, more pretentious restaurants in the area with food that's too rich and not as fresh as this gem. Can't recommend highly enough. read more

The people who work at this place have the worst communication skills. I called to make a reservation, put our name on the list for 2:15pm, physically checked in to make sure we were on the list, waited and said they couldn't accommodate. The person checking people in couldn't tell her boss that she gave us a reservation. The manager was so far from accommodating. Did not have the attitude needed to be the face of this place. The Arts District DTLA is a very chill place this restaurant probably needs to rethink their approach. read more

The Good: pretty decent food, great artsy atmosphere, and the most indecently hilarious bathroom wallpapers. The Bad: Only $12-15 valet parking or driving around for 20 minutes looking for street parking on a Wednesday night for 830pm reservation. The Ugly: HORRIBLE customer service. We were a party of seven and I wish the gratuity wasn't already added because she did not deserve a penny for that attitude of hers. Every request or question was met with rudeness and condescension. We asked if we could order appetizers first, while we looked over the menu. She told us no, that our order had to be put in all together, but she "guesses she can ask the kitchen to make an exception." I asked for my burger to be medium well and she said "no, the most we can do is medium, but the burgers are supposed to be ordered medium rare." Um, okay. The last straw was when we received our bill and saw a $28 cake cutting fee. We asked her before being seated, if they were able to take our cake. She said that there would be a fee and we said nevermind, we would just take our cake back. She insisted the fee was "only an additional $4". Oh just $4! That's fine! NOPE, $4 per person, which she completely failed to mention. We would have gladly paid the $4 per person fee, but when we mentioned to her that she was not very clear, she condescendingly replied back "No, I definitely mentioned it to you guys, I remember", missing the point that she did not clarify that it was PER PERSON. Never have I been told "no" so many times by anyone in the service industry. Definitely will not be returning, if these are the customer service standards for Manuela. It's too bad because the restaurant itself is worth a visit! read more

Friend of mine picked this place out and I was a bit hesitant because I found their menu unappealing (before coming) I must say, I was wrong. Everything I tried was amazing, except the burger. I'm not a fan of game meat so it tasted like what I expected it to taste like and it's just not for me. My buddy enjoyed it. The chicken was amazing, just wow. I was really blown away how good it was. The cauliflower, potatoes, biscuits and oysters were delicious. Drinks were good. I didn't find the service to be bad but a buddy of mine commented that it was mediocre. Overall I enjoyed the ambiance, food, drinks and service. read more

This was probably the worst experience I have ever had at a brunch place. One of the servers dropped our food when serving and left without apologizing or even acknowledging the fact that it happened. This server was one of the bus boys and was incredibly rude and obnoxious. Never come here if you want to served well. The food was decent and the pancakes were tasty tho. read more

Well my Saturday brunch turned sour due to my visit to Manuela. I had gone to the store to get a gift for a friend, and then went straight to Manuela. After having brunch, I went straight to a friends to give him his present, but my gift was not in my car. I called the restaurant to speak to a manager and also tried calling the valet, but obviously its not something they're too concerned about. My gift to my friend was worth $200, but if you have anything in your trunk worth more, if would be a good idea to take it out before you visit this place. The food here was pretty good, and the service from our waiter was excellent. But, a restaurant should be judged by a customer's experience at the place, and due to my incident, my image of Manuela is no longer the cool hip place that Ive known for some time. read more

We recently went to Sunday brunch with my parents and 11 month old and we had a fantastic experience. The staff was friendly and they made the best scrambled eggs for our baby which he loved! Their biscuits and marmalade (and the butter don't get me started...yummy!!) are absolutely amazing...we'll definitely be back for more!! read more

Great spot adjacent to a public garden with real veggies growing and live chickens. Food is great and cocktails are superb. Easy to become absorbed in the ambiance once you conquer the surrounding hassles with traffic and parking. read more

I thought Manuela was a nice place. The food is delicious. However, they served mostly deer meat (bambi) and they have very little selection in terms of meat type. We are Jewish and we couldn't eat anything there unless we wanted Bambi... BUT... if you can eat pork or deer meat, this is a great place to go. I think it's cool and different than most restaurants. we ended up ordering ceviche and salad. I wished they had beef. BUT again, if I could eat pork or deer meat, I am 100% it would be delicious. read more

A lovely find in the Arts District. Eclectic food for dinner. Great cornbread with butter. We had the scallops and the 1/2 chicken, both excellent. The place was very crowded at 5:30pm on a Saturday due to the art opening (Annie Leibowitz) in the building. It has two art spaces, art shop and this restaurant in the middle. The chorizo burger was just ok but the biscuits were yummy! The ambiance was great and the place was packed with many Sunday brunchers. My champagne and cranberry was $22 which is spendy even to someone that doesn't mind spending $ on a good drink. I would not seek this place out again. Nice decor in chic warehouse-style venue. Wish we were seated in open courtyard area, but instead we were seated behind hostess booth and next to restroom. We tried to get a courtyard table but it would be another 30 min wait but we were getting hangry so we thought it best not to test those waters so we took the table we originally got seated at. Fast forward to menu, wish wine list would have a disclaimer at the top of the page saying that wines are from 'organic wineries.' I probably should've assumed that given the fact that I didn't recognize any of the wines on the menu, not that I'm a wine connosieur, but I know a good share of wines. Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of wine from organic wineries. From my previous experience, the taste and quality from bottle to bottle of same vintage of organic wineries is inconsistent and not always something to rave about. I got a bottle of rose scotty's blush and when our waitress presented the bottle I was already cringing at the color and clarity of the wine being poured into our glasses. It was an opaque orange with dark sediment floating in the bottle. Waitress made it even more clear that this wine is 'organic' by explaining why I'm seeing everything that was clouding my brain. I took first sip and immediately thought this is not wine, it's blood orange and grapefruit juice that's been fermented and almost kombucha-like. I've never ordered a bottle of wine and been disappointed enough to say something to waitress. This was my first situation! I don't know what ends up with the bottle if customer thinks bottle is bad and I felt bad bringing it up because this bottle only comes as a bottle and not a glass. Anyway my friend and I ended up drinking the 'not good' bottle begrudgingly. Food was a little over-priced for what you got. Overall, I probably wouldn't go back again as basic biscuits and cornbread (a lil put off by the purple) were not awesome (I've had better elsewhere) were overpriced for what you got. Manuela had high expectations but reality came in sub par unfortunately. read more

Would love to tell you how the food was but we left after sitting for 20 minutes without having any waitstaff acknowledge our presence. With the exception of someone very meekly asking for a cocktail order after noticing us getting agitated after 10 minutes. However, they had no problem acknowledging another couple that walked in 5 minutes after us. Didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason how their waitstaff operated, tons of people delivering food and refilling water but couldn't see one person taking a food order. Then we get an email a few minutes after we walked out that THEY canceled our reservation! At least they noticed that!! I worked in food service for years, this is not how to run a restaurant. Very disappointed, was looking forward to trying it. read more

Usually always love Manuela, last Saturday brunch service was surprisingly weak -- drinks served 30 mins after we sat down, food was late as well and looked like it was haphazardly prepared and plated, only three of four dishes came out, had to flag down our server to get our fourth dish to the table. Entire brunch literally took almost three hours -- we weren't in a big hurry (luckily) but they were obviously in the weeds with no way out. We still like Manuela very much, so hopefully this was just a one off issue, and not a continuing trend. read more

Where do I even begin!!?! This place is truly a hidden gem in the middle of what us Angelinos" like to call the hustle and bustle of DTLA's Art District. I came for brunch on a Saturday with my girlfriends and I was not disappointed. I was overwhelmed with the amount of intricate brunch options! I ordered the Chilaquiles, the beignets, and the fried polenta to share. My goodness did the kitchen nail the sautéed oyster mushrooms on the fried polenta. This restaurant does not disappoint. The ambiance and service were excellent. The menu is a tad limited as there is only 1 plate choice for each protein type, but it's doable and delicious. The calamari appetizer wasn't very good and was comprised of very small pieces, but this was the anomaly of the night. The wine list was stellar. We missed seeing the garden since there was a private wedding, but overall our experience was wonderful. read more

I've eaten here twice, both times for lunch on a weekend. It is a perfect place to eat outside on a mild summer day because the setting is open, green and in an interior courtyard of a renovated warehouse. The only thing I like? That the restaurant was built as brand new as part of the Hauser Wirth & Schimmel complex. Designed like your typical old-world restaurant, it's a nice touch that blends in well with the complex, although fundamentally out of place within a contemporary art gallery. In conjunction with the old-world design is old-world service, and what I mean is, service is slow and leaves much to be desired. Aside from that, most of the menu and decor sits at the crossroads of confusion and a goal to create high margins on mostly lackluster food - branding itself as more of a tourist restaurant. The menu doesn't really surprise and offers your typical new wave fare without much of the sparkle that other New American restaurants offer. Ultimately, it leaves you unsatisfied upon departure. read more
