My family and I are regulars, it's my husband, myself, and our little girl and little boy (he's a monster )... We get the same thing, the food is great, and large portions for our family! we go there probably 80% of the time when we eat out it's where we chose to have Easter morning with our family and my parents... But today it just hit a little bit different... I watched the owner say something to this homeless man digging in the trash in the parking lot and I couldn't hear what he said... But no one was around, no one was watching, and the owner of Margie's brought out some food for this man... Stumbled by the place by accident and man what a great surprise! Vanilla malts are huge with an extra cup on the side. Chicken fried steak - must get the hash downs - so perfect! Fish and chips, chicken tenders came out perfect temperature and portions were huge. I got the bacon cheeseburger that was good - but the real star of the show for me was the huge onion rings! It was very close to the hotel so I made a trip to eat dinner. I like onion rings so I scanned the menu for something where I was going to get some. I went with the cheeseburger which comes with choice of grated cheese, went with cheddar and onion rings. The burger was huge, the bun barely fit in my hand. The only people attending the fair were livstock kids & their families. I went into the restroom upon arrival. There was no line for the restroom & no wait for a table. The ladies' restroom was a disgrace. The feminine hygiene disposal bin was overflowing. There was an object next to the toilet on the ground. 2 of the 3 rolls of TP were empty & the remaining roll was not in a dispencer. The service was good. Had to make a quick pit stop in Paso Robles. Decided to grab brunch. Found this diner on Google maps and decided to check them out. There was a little bit of a wait. The guy at reception desk made a comment to his coworkers that weekends are always busy. It was a very cute little diner. You could wait for a table or grab a seat at the bar. We waited no more than 10 minutes. We were greeted and our drink order was taken. Then a couple minutes passed and the waitress came to take our order. I ordered the country fried steak, my dad got the mushroom burger and daughter got bacon and eggs kids meal n I got the churro waffle for us to share. The food was great good size portions. We were surprised at how many mushrooms came on the burger. My dad did mention he wished the mushrooms had some seasoning but still good. I was surprised the churro waffle didn't have any cinnamon or sugar like a churro but my daughter was excited for the ice cream on top. Overall a good experience. If we ever stop in Paso Robles it's definitely worth checking out again. read more

We found Margie's diner by mistake. We were driving through California on a road trip and stopped in Paso Robles for gas. We found Margie's and thought we would grab a bite. We were so astounded at the service and quality of the food. I had a hamburger which was one of the best I have had in recent memory. My husband had a breakfast meal and said it was also outstanding. It was so good that on our return trip, we made a point of stopping for a second visit. I wish we were closer We would go there regularly. It is also extremely clean, which is a big deal for me. I am disappointed that these types of places are only open until 2 or 3 pm around here, it seems the better they are the earlier they close. The staff is consistent here too, many places have problem keeping good people working for them. Stop by and get your food in a timely fashion by someone who enjoys their job. This diner was right next to our hotel, so it was very convenient for us to dine here for breakfast before we headed off for some wine tasting. Diner had lots of people eating here and nice kid-friendly atmosphere. Honestly, it reminded me of a Denny's with a better menu selection. We ordered coffees and I opted to order the Fat City Mini ($10) - 1 sunny side up egg, 1 sausage, potatoes and a slice of toast. The food was diner food, nothing spectacular. The foods taste and quality are average but, in Margie's defense I understand why. If you take a look around while dining, you'll probably see two things. Drive by this place when headed to the coast & haven't tried it until just recently. Was a little skeptical at first because when I called to ask for the wait time, the woman who answered didn't seem very friendly, but we gave it a go anyway. Our family was glad we stopped there. Although the staff seemed very straight faced most of the time, they were pleasant enough. Our food turned out great & hey, that's all we were there for. It's a little pricey but would stop by again. HUGE portions. I'm not talkin big, I'm taking HUGE! We were staying at the Best Western and wanted to grab a quick bite before we headed off to do some wine tasting. Weren't looking for anything heavy but just "a little something". Well there's nothing little about anything at Margie's. Our waitress was great. Very friendly and attentive. Didn't catch her name but she's great at her job. So are the rest of the folks that work there. Very nice and helpful. It's the portion sizes and the price that blew me away. Actually, the price compared to portion size probably isn't bad. You'd easily be able to serve 3 from one plate. To bad I didn't realize that before we ordered. Okay, here's what we had: Avocado Club Sandwich - Avocado, bacon, tomato, cheddar, and lettuce with mayonnaise served with giant onion rings. Can I just tell you that they asked if I wanted a side of mayo? ha! #fattypants This was actually a pretty tasty sandwich. Lost of ripe avocado and crispy bacon. My issue was it fell apart. So much "stuff" in there that it just didn't stay together. The onion rings were good but so large that the breading fell off. I could only eat one and a half. Same with the sandwich. Way to much food for one person to eat and since we were going wine tasting, taking the leftovers with us only to sit in a hot car all day just didn't make sense. Sliders - 3 hot mini-burgers with a side choice. My daughter chose the fries. Again .. HUGE portions. And if that's what a slider size looks like then I'm thinkin a normal burger must be the size of a frisbee? This plate of food would feed 3 children hands down. My daughter (who's 27) ate one slider and didn't make a dent in the mountain of fries that sat in the middle of her plate. She didn't like the bun however I actually did. If you can finish your omelet and all the potatoes you are a true champion eater! I usually order the avocado, mushroom and cheese omelet. The mushrooms are just piled on top of this delicious avocado and cheese laden omelet. This place does not skimp in anything! Come hungry to Marjie's and leave stuffed! With 3 stars on yelp right now, and serving bog-standard diner food, this was obviously not *originally* on our restaurant list for our weekend wine-tasting stop in Paso Robles a couple weeks ago... but our hotel next door gave us each a $5 voucher for breakfast (good until 10 AM), and as it turned out, I was in the market for an early brunch that day, so we changed our plans. I saw reviews complaining about unfriendliness and/or slowness, but that is definitely not what I experienced - much the opposite. We walked in at like 9:57, got seats at the counter, and told them we had a voucher from our hotel good until 10, so we wanted to make sure to order while they were valid, and they said don't worry about it, take your time. Anyway, once we'd ordered, I ran back across the street to check out at our hotel, came back about 7 minutes later, and our food had already (just) arrived. Anyway, as far as the food, it was pretty much the best I could have hoped for - I ordered a mushroom and avocado omelette, and that is exactly what I got. Nothing fancy or special, but it did have a good amount of both mushroom and avocado, they were both pretty fresh (and I'm super picky about avocado freshness), and oh yeah, it was ENORMOUS. I did also see a number of reviews mentioning that, and they weren't exaggerating - if anything, they were underplaying it. I was pretty hungry, I stuffed my face until I was too full, and I still only ate about 80% of it. $16 for a basic omelette is crazy expensive ($11 seemed a lot more reasonable originally), but given this omelette could absolutely feed two people, the price is a lot more reasonable. (My wife got steak and eggs for about the same price, which was similarly massive - I thought the steak looked way too fatty, but she likes fatty steak cuts and said it was good.) You also have a choice between getting both bread and potatoes, or skipping the potatoes and getting biscuits and gravy. I went with the biscuits and gravy, which was the only disappointing part - their biscuits are great (and, unsurprisingly, also absolutely massive), but the gravy was almost tasteless (it didn't taste bad, it just didn't taste of much of anything). I'd still do that again over an extra heaping helping of potatoes, though, unless I wanted a bunch of breakfast potato for a *future* meal. So yeah. If I were driving through Paso Robles myself, I don't think I'd ever stop here, for a $16 good-but-nothing-special omelette I couldn't even finish. If I were driving through Paso with my wife, though, I'd totally consider stopping here for an effectively $8 normal-human-adult-sized portion of omelette each, if I didn't have any better plans. read more

Went to Paso Robles for a wedding and after an early four hour drive, we stopped here for breakfast. We were seated promptly. The restaurant was clean. I ordered the Fat City Mini and my husband got a Cinnamon Roll. We both had coffee. Their coffee was fresh and tasted great. My husband said his cinnamon roll was soft, fresh and tasted really good. My plate had an egg, sausage, hashbrowns and toast. All were good breakfast choices. The food came out quickly and hot. Our server made sure to ask if our coffees and water needed refills. Haven't eaten in a few days? Margie's has you covered. I've been to this location two separate times on the tail end of long road trips. My first Margie's experience was at their old Goleta location as a child - I couldn't believe how colossal their portions were. Enough to feed a small army. To this day, I still cannot finish my plate here in one sitting. Margie's is your typical diner with all the American classics you could envision: breakfast foods, sandwiches, huge burgers, shakes, and some of the largest onion rings I've ever seen. I'm talking the kind of onion ring you'd need to eat with a knife and fork. Just massive. This restaurant is located in a cool mid century building which appears to have been built as a diner. The interior is classic with many original 1960s touches. You don't see these types of places in health-conscious California. This place may be part of a dying breed but it's certainly worth a try. We were doing our monthly Palm Desert to Bay Area drive and got to Paso Robles around 12:30. Margie's Diner looked attractive - parked right next door and walked in. Attractive decor and quick service. Unfortunately the food left a lot to be desired. I ordered hamburger with chili and cheese and it was tasteless with no spice. The salad was boring - iceberg lettuce, a few tomatos, and lettuce. Onion rings were big but undercooked. And coffee was weak. My wife ordered the clam chowder and it was just okay. Prices were not cheap - the food was more appropriate for a nursing home than a diner. I will not return. read more

Stopped in on our way to Cambria. There was a wait. About 15 minutes. Not to bad. The "host" an older/elderly lady, was rather rude and off putting. Not exactly the warmest of greeter's. Things got better. The rest of the staff was fantastic! Food incredible! I had a ham and cheese omelette! Incredibly flavorful and big, at least a 4 egg omelette! I only left 1 star because I had to. When I got there, it was pretty empty. Then it started to pick up, and people that came in 10 minutes after us were seated and got their order and food before us.
