VERY MEDIOCRE, almost disappointing meal this evening @ Mkt. Steer. $250 for 2 with no alcohol. My med-rare NY strip was cooked medium and I should have sent it back !! This would be 5 stars if we were not greeted so extremely rudely by the hostess . She really I believed felt we were there to serve her. I have never been treated so coldly and with such disdain upon entering or leaving an establishment . This was my first time there as recently bought a home here . My friend kept saying really we will get good food and good drinks and good service. My friend and I came for early happy hour then to have dinner as I live on the edge of town . We sat at the bar and I had the best dirty martini of my life . And I have been drinking them for about 4 decades . She was attentive, sweet and we didn't have to wait for our appetizers. Now I am old and beyond paranoid but this hostess woukd catch our eye and give us the most degrading and spiteful look. Anyway I said I am not spending anymore money here due to this wench supposed to greet people . I have to say the male host was very nice and she said nothing in front of him. He greeted us warmly as we made our way to the bar and again upon exiting . My advice : this establishment needs to teach this tall brunette how to greet customers warmly and kindly and not almost trip them as they try to enter and then never give a gracious word . read more

Upscale steakhouse in santa Fe, the service is top notch, our waiter is super attentive and really patient to explain things to us and help us to pick our meal. no pushy or upsale just good service. during our visit their AC had a problem, so the manager came over to apologize and check on us multiple times. really attention to detail and caring. we shared the bone marrow and mussels as appetizer. the mussels is a must have. i think it's the shiner bock beer really makes it very tasty. two of us shared the tomahawk for main, is big and cooked to perfection. we picked the truffle butter and peppercorn demi, they are pairing really well with the steak. the waiter recommend the mushroom as a side, which is amazing. in the end we packed our bones back home for the dogs and also packed the truffle butter home, they are so delicious not to waste. make sure to pay them a visit if you want a great steak. I was here for the JBF Taste America dinner and attended the pre-dinner reception as well. The bites served during the reception were so tasty I had to hold back to make sure I had room for dinner. Every dish served during the dinner was a delightful combination of tastes, smells, textures, and visuals. I especially enjoyed the dessert of chocolate cake with almond frosting and basil ice cream. Each component was tasty, but altogether, it created an entirely different flavor that still retained each's individuality. From the time we walked in, this was an exceptional dinner experience! To start with they gave us bubbly to celebrate our anniversary. Explained the entire menu. Brought us the best bread with green chile butter. We split the bacon and butter salad which was pretty awesome with a little spice. We both ordered steak. I got the filet and my husband got the New York strip. These were some of the most tender steaks we've had! We went all out and got the sauce flight that came with 8 different sauces we could try with our steak. We paired our steaks with whipped potatoes that were very tasty. The inside of the restaurant was very upscale southwestern! The only reason I give it 4 stars is bc my husband's strip was not cooked medium well as we requested. It was more medium to medium rare. Came up from Albuquerque for a candlelight concert at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center and decided to do dinner before at Market Steer, due to its proximity. What an amazing experience! From incredible bacon (never knew there was such a thing as beef bacon), to roasted tomato gazpacho soup with feta and almonds, to a flavorful and tender filet with mushrooms, haricot verts, green chile risotto and finishing with the key lime brûlée. Enjoyed my birthday dinner here last night. It was fabulous! We started with The Standoff (beef bacon vs. pork bacon) so good! I mean who doesn't like bacon? Half our table liked the beef bacon better and half liked the pork but it was a hard decision. We all had steaks, half of us had the New York strip and half had the filet. Absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. We shared some sides which were all good (mushrooms, asparagus and truffle fries) We also had 2 of the steak sauces: horseradish caramel (oddly good) and Chimichurri which was outstanding. And several cocktails which were great. The standouts were Something Clever, Tequila Mockingbird, and the best were the chocolate martinis we had for dessert. Such a great meal! The best parts of the meal were the steaks, as it should be. Second would be bread and green chile butter. The experience overall should have been a lot better. However this is Santa Fe, and this restaurant has little competition at this price point, so it's natural that it ranks high. Service, which feels forced, is horribly subpar. Basic, attentive details are lacking, such as asking if one is finished with their drink before removing. If one has to ask for fresh ground pepper atop a salad (table does not have salt/pepper), then promptly leaves the table without asking if other patrons would like fresh pepper is unacceptable. Why won't the staff ask if anyone wants fresh pepper? How about when the staff is listing off the flight of sauce by pointing so close to the dips with their finger, not appetizing. If the establishment is out of a specific alcohol drink, let the patron know so they can select something else. Don't arrive at the table with something else and say we're out of what you wanted, but here's this (with an attitude of accept and be happy). Lastly, the man going around asking how the meal tastes before patron has not taken a bite yet is awkward. Pay better attention. Not sure the steak is worth it in the end. read more

Market Steer was absolutely delicious! You must come to this location before they move. I have it on good authority that they will be leaving this location for another one by March. Every single dish was delectable, from the appetizers to the desserts and everything in between. We ordered tons of food and loved each dish. The stand out sides were the Brussels sprouts, the creamed spinach and the green chile risotto. The steaks were perfect, and my New Mexico cut was the best I've had in this state. Our server was fantastic, and very funny. The sommelier Tyler was great, and so was Leevee, another server, who made it a point to keep our table fresh and neat. This is a very mixed review, but sadly the mostly awesome evening ended in a confusing and negative way. My best friend and I traveled from different states to meet up in Santa Fe and we had my birthday dinner here. It was wonderful service from our welcome throughout our dinner. We were treated to a tasting glass of celebratory prosecco, we discussed wine with our waiter, ordered a nice bottle and had a truly delicious meal. Service throughout was wonderful. When it came to dessert time we asked if we could move to the bar to order a dessert to share and some espresso martinis. Our lovely waiter brought another birthday gift of a dessert wine tasting. We had our espresso martinis during about an hours time and we decided to have another, as we were catching up on life and neither of us were driving or anywhere near intoxicated. I ordered as my friend went to the restroom. Nearly ten minutes later I noticed that the bartender was taking and filling orders for others, spending most of that time chatting. I asked about my order and the bartender asked if I really needed it. WTF? We were great customers, spent good money, were super friendly and respectful to the staff, quietly talking amongst ourselves, and got treated like that?! Canceled order and talked to manager, who had talked to us earlier at our table. He mentioned she said we may be intoxicated. Nope. After talking with us he openly admitted we were VERY clearly not, and that they were mistaken. Yes, you very clearly were. The damage was done. Apologies were made after hundreds of dollars were spent, but we left what started out as a wonderful experience with a very bad taste. For a beautiful steakhouse, you got the food right, but the way your bartender treated good customers was VERY wrong. We were quite shocked and offended by this, and rightfully so. The manager agreed, but his apology, with zero attempt to make things right, was truly lacking. For these issues, we would not recommend. read more

This is the first time we've eaten at Market Steer since their move. We have greatly enjoyed this restaurant over the years. Being a special occasion (our 36th anniversary), a perfect excuse to go back. The Market Steer in the past was excellent, but I think it has elevated itself to a higher level after the move and recent awards for the very talented chef, Kathleen Crook. This is now one of the top high-end dining experiences in Santa Fe, rivaling (but distinct from) Sazon, Restaurant Martin, and Geronimo's, all outstanding Fine Dining Restaurants. Upon seating, we were served a very delicious warm bread from the East Coast, accompanied by butter, green chile, and cream cheese (?) mix to spread on top. Wow, it's hard not to eat all this deliciousness even knowing one shouldn't fill up on it. We started with a dish we've had several times here and have to order: The Tex-Mex Mussels ($23). These Pei Mussels are incredibly tender; the green chile butter and beer sauce pair superbly with the large baguette. This is a substantial appetizer, perfect for sharing. If you like mussels, you should give them a try; you won't be disappointed. The "New Mexico Cut" featured on the menu is always sourced from Lone Mountain Wagyu of New Mexico, hence its name. The cut varies, so ask what it is that night (thus the MP, as this varies too). This night, the cut was picaña steak, also known as a culotte, which is a cut favored in Argentina, specifically a top sirloin cap. It was 6oz, a great size to split with an outstanding Lobster Tail on top ($55 for the Wagyu $25 for the Lobster Tail). It was recommended that the steak be cooked rare, which was fine with me (rare or medium-rare, heck, I'll eat Tartare, which they offer here, and I hope to try it next time). We were told it has a crust of salt and paper that can be lessened by request, but I always like to try a dish as the chef likes to make it. The Wagyu had excellent flavor, as one expects from this kind of cattle, and the crust was delicious. "Enhancements" (sauces for the beef, $5 each)? No way! If you really love the rich flavor of fine meat, skip them all. Don't cover up the amazing flavor, is my recommendation. The Lobster Tail was one of the best I've eaten in memory. With the steak, we had a side of Sautéed Haricot Verts that came with a piquillo pepper vinaigrette and spiced pecans. The Verts were perfectly cooked al dente, the sauce delicious, and the spiced pecans a great addition. The steak came with a few grilled garlic cloves, which were quite yummy. We were full, splitting all this food, but we couldn't turn down a dessert. The 'lightest' we found was a key lime cream burlee. Very unusual but excellent. The service was outstanding, and the entire team that took care of us was amazing. A special shout-out to our great head waiter, Ian. Market Steer has become one of the top premier high-end Restaurants in Santa Fe, it isn't at all surprising that just this month, Market Steer chef Kathleen Crook was selected by the James Beard Foundation for Taste America series read more

Wonderful night with my wife celebrating our Anniversary. We were delighted to see they had Foi Gras on the menu, so ordering two of these appetizers was a must. The Cowboy Ribey was perfectly cooked, as was my wife's Filet. Paired with a bottle of one of our favorite California Cabernet's (Silver Oak). The service was 5 stars from start to finish, starting with the Maitre D checking our coat. The SA was on top of things all night and our server Will was friendly and on point. After dining at MSS for dinner this evening, I must log a report that conflicts with many of my fellow Elite Yelpers. With a price point rivaling the great steakhouses in Dallas, Houston, etc., you expect an off the charts performance. MSS fell far short of the mark. So, Wednesday evening, 7:30pm, the restaurant not particularly busy, the stage was set for a spectacular dinner. Appetizer of smoked bone marrow ... way too salty. Not sure what it is about chefs and bone marrow, a thick coating of salt doesn't suit good bone marrow. The toasted bread helped tamper the salt, but it really wasn't that great. For dinner we each ordered the "New Mexico" cut steak ... a very expensive Waygu tenderloin, medium rare. What we were served was steaks barely cooked rare, purple and cold centers (check out the photos). I had a crab cake on mine, my better half got the lobster tail side. Both the crab cake and lobster tail were extremely "fishy," again for the price, you expect fresh, tasty seafood ... the lobster tail was taken away and the charge removed from the bill. My better half's tenderloin was returned to the kitchen and brought back out a few minutes later, half medium rare, half still cold and purple. For sides with dinner we had the chimichurri sauce, both very good. We ordered wine by the glass with dinner, that was good too! We decided to try dessert and an after dinner drink... lemon crème brûlée and a Brandy Alexander... the crème brûlée was just OK, again not tasting really fresh, the drink tasted strong but very milky, and was served "short," glass barely 1/2 full. Both dessert and the drink were sub-par. Some other observations... the restaurant suffered from a real lack of coordination and training of the wait staff... examples, the guy we thought was a waiter who first came to the table and brought water... we ordered wine from him, only to be greeted by our actual waiter 10 minutes later who knew nothing about the wine order. Different folks deliver the food to the table than your waiter, they have no idea what was ordered or how it was to be prepared (hence the delivery of raw $50+ steaks). The waiter was not very attentive, maybe because it wasn't that busy... empty plates and glasses sat on the table for 20-25 minutes, with the waiter and bus staff, and even a couple of mangers passing by multiple times... even when the empties were pushed to the middle of the table, they still sat there! The bus boy who finally came to clear the table after dinner asked "did you save room for dessert," and when we said, what do you have?, the response, "I don't know but I can bring you menus." So, a very disappointing evening, created by a lackadaisical staff that didn't care about the fare being served and a kitchen that didn't prepare good food. For the price tag, our time is better spent elsewhere. We cannot recommend MSS. read more

The domes include blankets, a heater, and a Bluetooth speaker to connect your phone to. I had dinner here recently and really liked my meal. Overall service was good but there were a few weird moments. I got there a bit early so I had to wait a few minutes for my table. Not a big deal but when I got seated, they seated me at a table for 4 and it was just me. Seemed like they were busy and wasting a 4 person table on me was maybe not the right away to go. Overall though I had really good service and my waiter was attentive but not too attentive. They did give me a free glass of sparkling wine as I mentioned it was my birthday earlier in the week. That was a nice touch. I started with the Bacon and Butter salad: butter lettuce, house bacon, citrus goat cheese, chile lime pepitas, ancho chile buttermilk dressing. I really liked this salad. Loved all the toppings and the dressing. The dressing was not heavy or too spicy. I loved the bacon on the side - it was two thick cut pieces. Yum! For my entree, I had the 7 oz Prime Filet Mignon with Béarnaise and roasted mushrooms. My steak was very flavorful and cooked to my liking. Some pink inside but not too red. The sauce was flavorful and buttery. The mushrooms were good too - not my favorite mix of mushrooms but overall tasty. For dessert, I had the bourbon bread pudding at the recommendation of the waiter. I guess it takes 4 days to make. I am not normally a big bread pudding fan but this was good. Not too heavy, very flavorful, not a strong alcohol flavor which I prefer. Overall a very nice dinner and they treated me well. read more

You know going in that it's going to be expensive, but our waiter tried to upsell us at every order point. Maybe he's a car salesman by day. Don't know why Yelp gives it 4 dollar signs and the Bull Ring 3 $$$. From our visit 15 months ago, the Bull Ring is even more expensive, especially their sides--though the potato au gratin was excellent, we just needed another couple to help us eat it. read more

We had a 5 PM reservation for 4, we were greeted right away and with other patrons arriving we were all asked for our coats for a coat check. She was extremely knowledgeable about the specials, menu items etc. We asked her to just bring out things as they were prepared. She said the Onion Rings would be out first as they do not take long and here they came. I should have taken a picture but it was a tower of huge rings. And the were delicious with both the house made ketchup and steak sauce. OH, the bread and the green chili butter they bring out first was so good. The butter is killer, if you like a little spicy flavor. (More on the butter later). Then the Truffle fries came out, large basket and they were delicious as well. Then the salads, a couple sides and then our entrees. It was full on chow time now. The steak was superior, bot the New York and the Filet. My wife and I shared so we could try both. Then the last of the sides arrived, one of which was the whipped potatoes and what looked like brown gravy that I assumed was for the whipped potatoes. Later after I was about half way through my steak my daughter told me that it was my Peppercorn Demi. So I gave it a dip and oh baby, delicious. But I was glad I ate half without to get the plain steak flavor before the Demi. But that just took the steak to another level. When our waitress came back towards the end of our meal I just had to ask, partly jokingly, if they sold the green chili butter by the pound. I was pleasantly surprised that they sell the little tubs. We bought 2! It is a bit on the pricey side but all the work they go through for the steaks and the aging, well worth it. Visited here Thursday, October 6, 2022. This was our second-choice steakhouse as the nearby Bull Ring was closed. This steakhouse is inside the Hotel Saint Francis and is extremely busy. A reservation is highly recommended. When we arrived, the wait quoted was too long. We decided to sit in the bar at the advice of the hostess. This area had an open table immediately. We sat in a corner, near a door to the outside seating. It smelled of cigarettes. We surmised someone had been smoking outside and the smoke had wafted through the uninsulated door. The prices here are very steep, but that is expected in any Santa Fe restaurant. I ordered the ten-ounce, prime, flat iron steak ($40) cooked medium. They cooked my steak perfectly and the salt and pepper gave it a nice flavor. I appreciated the roasted garlic on the side, which I smeared on the steak to increase the flavor. My wife ate the pan roasted scallops ($38) with coconut and lime rice, ginger sauce, and tapioca crisp. She liked her scallops but wanted more than just three. None of the entrees come with sides, which ordered separately range in price from $9-$35! They even charge you $4 for the steak enhancements, which include bearnaise, chimichurri, horseradish caramel, truffle butter and smoked blue cheese butter; to name a few. They have really good food here, but the entree size is rather small. The prices are high and I didn't appreciate that they nickel and dime you for things that are normally included in an entree. The cigarette smoke detracted from our enjoyment of the meal. read more
