This was great. We came for brunch and got bagels/bialies, the smoked fish platter, latkes with fried eggs and smoked salmon, and black & white cookies. The bagels were excellent -- not quite best in class in my opinion, but really good, and a slightly different form factor than a typical NYC bagel (somewhat smaller with a more defined hole). The smoked fish, though, is as good as I've had anywhere -- even the whitefish salad, which is normally not something I like, was absolutely delicious. Their cream cheese was excellent as well. Giant shout out for two specific items; the rugelach and the bagels. The Rugelach is out of this world and the closest thing to old school rugelach I've had in 30 years. It puts all other rugelach to shame (including Russ & Daughters & Zabars & Orwashers). The texture is perfection and the chocolate has the correct hint of cinnamon. OUTSTANDING. A LOST ART THATS BEEN RESURRECTED AT MOM. The bagels: I'm shocked. They are small but the outer crust is crunching and delectable. The inner bagels is heavenly; light yet perfectly dense too. This review is based on delivery, which my girlfriend and I got on Friday night. We are vegetarians, and were happy that Mark's Off Madison had some vegetarian things on the menu. The Emilia Romagna Pizza was only luke warm when delivered, it's a white pizza with 25 year old vinegar drizzled on it. It wasn't very good, but maybe without the vinegar and warm it would be improved, I don't know. We also got the Madison Avenue Eggplant Parmesan. Being a lifelong vegetarian, I have eaten A LOT of eggplant parmesan in my life, and I have never had anything like this before, and that is not a compliment, I'm sorry. It was primarily a very tomato pasty and overly sweet and rich sauce with eggplant that basically became part of the sauce. We couldn't tell where the sauce stopped and the eggplant started. My Brooklyn Grandmother never made us Potato Latkes because she didn't like to cook with a lot of oil. All I can say is Grandma Goldman would have never touched these oily latkes, I should have followed her example. Continuing the theme of too much oil, the Belgian Fries were the oiliest least tasty fries I have ever had. To get fries this sopping wet and dripping with oil takes a special skill, keep the fryer at the lowest possible temperature, so the potato absorbs all the oil. My kids who love fries would never have eaten these, again I should have followed their example. I have saved the best for last. The Roasted Brussels Sprouts & Butternut Squash were very good, again only slightly warm when delivered, but very good. Just tiny brussels sprouts, maybe a little too much oil. But oil seems to be the signature dish here. The DeVille Fried Onions were also very good, again a little too oily and not crispy enough, but certainly the best part of this truly disappointing meal. I will never eat food from here again, but this place and it's special brand of cooking does seem to have it's fans. In a city as big as our city, you don't have to please everyone, just a few, I wish the owners and employees all the best. The only suggestion I can give, do figure out a way to deliver the food warmer. read more

I've been really missing sour dough bread from SF, and this place delivers! Nice crunch and chewiness when toasted. Wonderful sour dough flavor! We also ordered a couple of plain bagels and bialys. I was craving a delicious black & white cookie and pasta the other night, so decided to get delivery. And WOW did it hold up! I ordered the Rigatoni Alla Buttera as my main (penne vodka with peas and sausage) and it was truly *chef's kiss.* Creamy, rich, and the perfect dish for a gloomy Saturday night in. The Black & White cookie was just as fantastic as I remembered. A thin layer of glaze atop a perfectly bouncy cookie (with just the right hint of lemon). So many B&W cookies these days are subpar--and M&M has one of the best in the city (if not THE best!) I also ordered the Chocolate Chip Cookies (yes, I love dessert), and they're the perfect dessert if you're a fan of crispy, crunchy cookies. Like Tate's but so much better! This is the kind of restaurant that has a lot of repeat customers as the food and service is solid in a central location. I got the beef hash and it was definitely good. I wanted to love this place, but I don't. Ordered delivery. I shared a suckling pig hash. The friend liked it, I thought it was too greasy, even for a hash. The portion is quite small. It came with side potatoes which we didn't enjoy. We wanted more flavor. Their sausage was dry as well. I hope it was a fluke, but our bagel was a hockey puck. It was very hard and hurt to bite into. Their fresh squeeze orange juice is definitely freshly squeezed..but one of the worst orange juices I've ever had. Ordering in can be quite hit and miss. They often stop deliveries earlier than they advertise which is less than ideal. What's most odd is the in person service. It's a little slow and a little inconsistent, which echoes other reviewers. I'd recommend giving it a shot, ignore the social media hype for certain dishes but certainly try the fries. I found myself in the Madison Park area today and went to Mark's at the suggestion of Carl G. Mark's occupies an Andrew Carmellini space and I recognized it immediately. They have a very nice outdoor set up, but I preferred to eat indoors. If you go you must try the Pappardelle with Brisket Ragu. It is a very interesting, yet very delicious dish. M.O.M is the shit ok! The food, the ambiance and the staff were all top tier. Upon walking in we were greeted by the owner Mark and a server took us to our table. For appetizers we had the baked clams, tuna tartare and calamari. The tuna tartare was pretty mid but the clams and calamari was heavenly! We then had the clam pie. That was some of the most flavorful pizza I've had in a long time. For dinner we had rigatoni, hanger steak w fries, lasagna and the lobster pasta. Everything was literally amazing! After seeing so many features of this place all over social media I decided to finally stop in and give this place r a try. Unfortunately, it turned out to be all hype. I shared the steak sandwich and Hell's Kitchen pizza with my cousin and neither lived up to the expectation. The steak sandwich was one of the most bland sandwiches I have ever had - no flavor, it literally tasted like meat and bread. No seasoning on the steak, not even salt and pepper. The bread was so soggy....idk what kind of rookies are running this place but if you're serving a steak sandwich on a ciabatta you NEED to toast the bread so the bread doesn't become soggy. The steak needed at the very least some salt and pepper, the bread needed to be toasted and that sandwich 100% needs some kind of condiment to make it half decent. The meat quality was decent which was the one thing they had going for them but they really screwed it up with how poorly prepared and put together that sandwich was. The pizza was a little better....the dough was good, the cheese tasted good but didn't have nearly enough cheese on it as it was mostly peppers and onions. They need to figure out their ratios on their pizza. All in all, I left disappointed thinking I would be back very soon to try more menu items but after the poor experience I will not be going back. read more

I kindly approached the host to ask if we could be moved to the back (restaurant was empty at this time). I follow M.O.M. On Instagram, and have seen their posts, particularly the classic Lasagne Della Nonna, and just had to try it! We are from Atlanta, and were on our last night in NYC. We had taken a quick trip down to the 9/11 memorial, and once finished there, my husband said that I could pick anywhere in the city for dinner. So I said Mark's it is! He immediately typed it in the Lyft app, and here came a car to pick us up! Once we arrived, the gracious host asked if we had reservations, and in the whirlwind I had totally forgotten that it would be a problem not to. He was so kind and told us he could squeeze us in at the bar! So thankful to to him, and the servers for their astounding service! The lasagne did not disappoint and my husband immensely enjoyed the shellfish Bouillabaisse. The atmosphere felt like an upscale, local neighborhood hangout, which made us out of town-ers feel like we had stumbled onto something authentic, and not a tourist trap. Visiting my grown daughter and dying for a fresh, not packaged, black and white I yelped "black and white cookie," narrowed to two blocks and Mark's popped up. I'd literally walked past it two blocks earlier, so my 13yo and I did a 180 and headed back. Good lord, I was not expecting what I found. At the front is a bakery with freshly baked breads, sweets and doughnuts. No one was behind us in line so we chatted with Tommy about his favorites and wound up ordering a chocolate babka, a marshmallow cream puff and since we didn't see a black and white cookie, the B&W doughnut. When I mentioned that's what brought me in, Tommy went rooting around in the kitchen and came back with a b&w cookie for my daughter that hadn't been put out yet--super nice guy. The girls went back last night in the rain because I'd been talking about wanting a loaf of Mark's sourdough ever since Tuesday. They stayed and ordered chicken soup and brought home more sweets including the custard doughnut we'd regretfully opted against on our last visit. Everything tasted heavenly--not too sweet, and completely fresh. My girl lives an easy walk away so I look forward to trying the Italian menu one evening for dinner before we leave. One of the places I made a point to go to in my 20th wedding anniversary trip. Fantastic. I had a 2:45pm reservation on a sunny summer Sunday. Lovely indoor and outdoor places to sit. We got the "Jewish Boy from queens," fries, and 2 Bloody Mary's. Sandwich was perfect split for 2. Fries delicious and more than enough. Probably top 5 fries I ever had. NYC is filled with sooooo much good food, but with the good, there must come the bad food. And unfortunately I had one of my least favorite meals ever here. The pretzel was sooooo hard I could barely get a piece off, as well as the low quality meats and cheese on the rest of the plate. The tuna tartar was this red color I had never seen before. Bad taste and drenched in sesame oil. The chicken I ordered was supposed to be roasted, but I was given dry, grilled chicken that was over cooked and some frozen vegetables. The rest of my friends food was low quality and no one was satisfied. We ended up filling up on the bread which was pretty good. The owner seems nice and walks around and greets the tables as well as some very kind waiters, and this is why I give two stars. We asked for several things to be taken off the bill which the owner obliged and we thank you for. I will definitely never eat here again though. Especially when these are midtown prices. read more

Just had the most amazing meal at M.O.M. Yesterday. First of all, the menu is bound to please most any dining preference. My friend and I split everything in order to sample more options. Highly recommend the tuna tartare, eggplant Parmesan, and especially the pretzel. Yes, this meal was worth going back to carbs! The Pollo Alla Mattone stood out as well, along with those mashed potatoes. The only dish that didn't quite make the mark was the spinach pizza. To be clear, it wasn't bad. Just less spectacular. The staff was very attentive. Never an empty water glass. Plus the bartender was quick to figure out how to meet our vodka needs.
